Cucumber, The Best for the Treatment of Hyperlipidemia, According to Human Trial

By Kyle J. Norton

Hyperlipidemia is a condition of abnormally high blood lipid in the bloodstream a major cause of plaque accumulation on the arterial wall that leads to the increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Cholesterol produced either by the liver or fat intake is essential to aid the digestive system in digesting foods and absorbing nutrient before passing them to other parts of the body, build a strong cell wall, produce vitamin D and steroid hormone.

There are 2 main types of cholesterol. The low-density lipoprotein (LDL) which carries the aforementioned function and the high-density lipoprotein (HDL)which returns the cholesterol back to the liver for reuse in the future.

The healthy blood cholesterol ratio of total blood cholesterol of LDL/ HDL is any numbers that are less than 4.

People with high blood cholesterol are asymptomatic. Conventionally, the condition can be lowered by regular intake of blood cholesterol-lowering medicine.

Most common risk factors that cause the onset of high blood cholesterol are unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.

Some researchers in the examination of the widespread high blood cholesterol over the past few decades probably are associated with the promotion of the high-fat diet in the US.

Dr. Cole TG, the lead scientist wrote," In normals, dietary cholesterol increases LDL production and decreases LDL receptor-related LDL clearance, resulting in elevations in LDL cholesterol levels of approximately 30 mg/dL".

Therefore, by changing behaviors in lifestyle, you may just be doing fine without medication. Please sure you tale to your doctor before withholding.

The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.

On finding a natural compound for the treatment of hyperlipidemia with no side effects, researchers examined the efficacy of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seed, used traditionally as a lipid-lowering nutritional supplement.

The randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial included hyperlipidemic patients with inclusion criteria randomly and equally assigned to either Cucumis or placebo groups or one medicinal or placebo capsule, once daily with food for 6 weeks.

According to the tested assays obtained from 23 patients in Cucumis group and 23 patients in the placebo group completed the study, cucumber seed extract treated group showed a significant reduction of total cholesterol, and BMI index compared to baseline taken before the treatment
The extract also increased the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HLD) compared to placebo.

More precisely, at a concentration of daily dose of 500 mg, the consumption of C. sativus seed extract daily, exerted strong effects on serum lipid profile in tested adult hyperlipidemic patients.

In other words, daily injection at the ceratin dose may have a desirable effect in the prevention of hyperlipidemia in facilitating the onset of cholesterol build-up on the arteries and risk of cardiovascular disease.

Based on the results, researchers said, "Cucumber seed could be considered as a food supplement for treatment of dyslipidemia".

Taken altogether, cucumber may be used for the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
