According to the tested analysis, the silver nanoparticles showed a significantly better activity (two- to four-fold enhancement) on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, compared to the extract.
The gold nanoparticles exerted a strong anti-cancer cytotoxic activity compared to those of silver nanoparticles.
Based on the results, researchers said, "Therefore, both nanoparticles synthesized with the sesquiterpenoids from T. farfara flower bud extract can be applied as drug delivery vehicles of anticancer or antibacterial agents for future nanomedicine applications".
Taken altogether, coltsfoot may be considered a remedy for the treatment of bacterial infections and cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
