1. Anti inflammatory effects
According to the study of anti-inflammatory effect on macrophages stimulated with LPS from Porphyromonas gingivalis of the Pusan National University, Dr. Jin GH, and the research team showed that Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam (BCE) induced anti-inflammatory effects by activating Nrf-2-mediated HO-1 induction via p38 signaling in P. gingivalis LPS-stimulated macrophages(1).
2. Anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and whitening effects 
In the study of to evaluate the anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and whitening effects of Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen (BCL), via assays, of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells as well as inhibition of tyrosinase activity and melanin production in B16F10 melanoma cells
showed that 2 and 3 exhibited significant DPPH radical scavenging activity as well as inhibitory effects on NO production, tyrosinase activity and melanin production(2).
3. Antioxidant activities
In the study of the potential antioxidant effects of BCL in suppressing the production of thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC) and macrophage-derived chemokine (MDC) in human keratinocytes (HaCaT cell), found that BCL may have a therapeutic potential on skin disease such as atopic dermatitis by inhibiting Th2 chemokines which is due, at least in part, to its antioxidant capacities(3).
4. Topical dermatitis
Examination of whether BCL suppresses the development of 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions in hairless mice, showed that the transdermal administration of BCL to hairless mice inhibited the development of DNCB-induced AD-like skin lesions by suppressing TEWL, melanin production and erythema of skin, the number of leukocytes and the level of IgE in serum, and the mRNA expression of IL-4, IL-13, and TNF-alpha in the spleen(4)
5. Hypolipidemic effect
In the study to evaluate the effects of middle layer of PN, PB, PP, and BCT on rat with hyperlipidemia, induced by Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet, found that all of the Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam was reduced total cholesterol, LDL. Inhibition rate on LDL-oxidation, hACAT-1, and hACAT-2 was increased dose-dependently. Therefore all of the Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam is a good candidate for the treatment on Triton WR-1339 and high cholesterol diet-induced blood circulatory disorders, obesity, and hyperlipidemia(5).
