Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by the irregular cell growth on the body tissue, due to the alternation of cell DNA.
Most cases of cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining tissue and do not exert any symptoms at the early stage.
However, at the later stage, the larger size tumor may press on the nearby blood vessels and nerve cells, causing localized severe bleeding and pain accompanied by the general symptoms of cancers, including the unintended weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue and tiredness and gastrointestinal problems.
Most cancer cells at this stage can also travel a distance away from the original site to affect other healthy tissue and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.
According to statistics, in 2018, approximately over 1,700,000 cases of cancer were diagnosed worldwide. The lifetime probability of being diagnosed with cancer is 39.7% for men and 37.6% for women.
Obesity or overweight, poor diet, and lifestyle are the most common preventable risk factors associated with cancer onset in the US.
Lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer are accounted for about half of all cancer diagnoses and deaths.
About 1 in 2 Canadians will develop cancer in their lifetimes and 1 in 4 will die of the disease.

Dandelion is a herbaceous perennial plant, genus Taraxacum, belongings to the family Asteraceae, native to temperate regions of the world. It has been used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat gout, eczema, acne, gall bladder, kidney, liver and urinary disorders, hypoglycemia, dyspepsia with constipation, edema, blood pressure, and heart weakness, chronic joint, skin diseases, etc.
On finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors, scientists examined the Taraxacum officinale, for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (TOL-AgNPs). AgNPs anticancer activity.
On finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors, scientists examined the Taraxacum officinale, for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (TOL-AgNPs). AgNPs anticancer activity.
According to the tested differentiation, the synthesized AgNPs had higher antioxidant activity in comparison with commercial AgNPs against the bacterial infection in inducing the oxidative stress in the alternation of cell DNA and lipid and protein damage.
The nanoformulations with tetracycline showed better broad-spectrum efficiency to control phytopathogens and significant antioxidant potential in terms of ABTS (IC50 = 45.6 μg/mL), DPPH (IC50 = 56.1 μg/mL), and NO (IC50 = 55.2 μg/mL) free radical scavenging activity.

Moreover, The TOL-AgNPs showed high cytotoxic effect against human liver cancer cells (HepG2).
Based on the results, researchers suggest, "Dandelion-mediated AgNPs synthesis can represent a novel approach to develop effective .....anticancer drugs with a cheap and eco-friendly nature".
Taken altogether, Dandelion may be considered a remedy for the treatment of cancers, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
