Cabbage Kills fibrosarcoma Cells in Vitro

Cancers are a class of chronic diseases caused by the alternation of DNA of healthy cells.

In other words, healthy cells become cancerous if they grow uncontrollably and disorderly out of range of a normal healthy cell population which can only divide between 40 and 60 times.

Fibrosarcoma is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the fibrous connective tissue. The tumor can be classified into low grade, intermediate malignancy, and high malignancy, depending on different degrees of differentiation:

Fibrosarcomas occur as a soft-tissue mass or as a primary or secondary bone tumor. The 2 main types of fibrosarcoma of bone are
*Primary fibrosarcoma is a fibroblastic malignancy that produces variable amounts of collagen.

* Secondary fibrosarcoma of bone arises from a preexisting lesion or after radiotherapy to an area of bone or soft tissue.


The most common symptoms of fibrosarcoma are painless or tender mass in an extremity or trunk, pain or soreness caused by suppressed nerves and muscles and limping or other difficulty using legs, feet, arms hands.

The most common prevalent factors associated with the risk of fibrosarcoma are radiation exposure. damaged lymph system or lymphedema, exposure to chemicals. and family history. 

According to the statistics provided by the Canadian Cancer Society, in 2016, approximately 1,025 Canadians were diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, 575 men were diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, causing 306 death. 445 women were diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, causing 349 death.

Cabbage is a species of Brassica oleracea belongings to the family Brassicaceae (or Cruciferae), native to the Mediterranean region along the seacoast.

* The free radical scavenging activity under in vitro conditions is found to be higher for the Ag NPs when compared to the Au NP.

*  A strong cytotoxic effect (both nanoparticles (NPs)) exerted )mediated through nuclear morphological changes and DNA damage.

* The activation (both nanoparticles (NPs)) of inflammatory and apoptosis pathways. More precisely, both nanoparticles (NPs) regulated the mRNA and protein expression of caspase-3 and caspase-7, TNF-α, and NF-κB for the induction of intrinsic and extrinsic apoptosis and inflammatory pathways in Ag NP- and Au NP-treated cells.

* The activity of speeding up would healing.

Based on the results, researchers wrote, "Nonetheless, both Ag NPs and Au NPs show potential ... biological synthesis... on cancer and wound healing".
Taken altogether, cabbage may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of fibrosarcoma, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
