It is hard to believe that America,
a country with one of the highest standards of living in the world
having over 20 million people with the disease of anemia caused by
unhealthy diet, and nutritional deficiency with protein and fat intake
30% more than any other country in the world. Most people understand
that anemia is caused by iron deficiency in the bloodstream but in
reality anemia is characterized by deficiency in the hemoglobin of the
red blood cells diminishing the ability of the blood to transport oxygen
to our cells and to remove carbon dioxide.
1. Eat some raw vegetables
People
eat only cooked vegetables is more likely to have folic acid deficiency
anemia because most folic acid is destroyed during high heat. If you
can not tolerate the smell of raw vegetable, you can include folic acid supplements in your diet. Folic acid is essential for fetal development, be sure to get enough folic acid if you are pregnant.
2. Moderate exercise
Intense
exercise may be harmful for anemia patients because of depletion of
oxygen level caused by less blood cells in the blood. Moderate exercise
helps to increase the blood circulation and oxygen level in the
bloodstream, it is vital for people with nutrition deficiency
anemia since it helps to remove carbon dioxide from the blood and provide nutrition for body's cells need.
3. Reduce intake of alcohol
Moderate
drinking helps to increase blood flow. Excessive drinking not only
damages the normal function of the liver, but also drains the folic acid
from the body resulting in nutritional deficiency anemia.
4. Increase intake of vitamin C
Iron
and other metals such as zinc and copper are needed for the
reproduction of red blood cells as well as increasing the levels of
oxygen in the bloodstream. They are vital metals for people with anemia.
Since these types of nutrition are tough to absorb, taking vitamin C
together with them will increase the stomach absorption.
5. Increase intake of foods containing iron and strengthening immune system
For
people with iron deficiency anemia, it is better for your health to
increase intake of foods rich in iron such as spinach, broccoli, beet
juice, and cabbage. These foods not only help in reproduction of red
blood cells to cover the break down of the old blood cells but also
helps in strengthening your immune system as well as increasing
circulation of blood.
6. Limit intake of junk foods
Junk
foods contain high amounts of trans fat that may cause cholesterol and
triglyceride to build in the blood stream, resulting in interference
with the normal function of circulation system as well as nutritional
deficiency anemia.
7. Stop smoking
If
you have anemia and smoke, you must quit. Cigarette fumes containing
cadmium not only cause the building up of calcium in the arteries, it
also causes the depletion of oxygen in the bloodstream resulting in
worsened heart diseases and anemia problems.
