1. Gastric ulcer
In the study to assess the effect of exceed critical extracts from Radix Aucklandiae (MXY for short) on many kinds of experimental gastric ulcer model. found that compared with model group, MXY had remarkable inhibition activity on the hydrochloirc acid-ethanol type acute gastric ulcer (P < 0.01). It also could obviously reduce the index of gastric ulcer induced by reserpine and chronic gastric ulcer induced by acetic acid (P < 0.05 – 0.01)(1).
2. Streptococcus mutans
In the study to investigate the inhibitory effects of the ethanol extract of Saussurea lappa (S. lappa) on the growth, acid production, adhesion, and water-insoluble glucan synthesis of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans), showed that the ethanol extract of Saussurea lappa (0.25-4 mg/ml) also significantly lowered the adherence of Streptococcus mutans in a dose dependent manner. In water-insoluble glucan synthesis assay, 2-4 mg/ml of the ethanol extract of Saussurea lappa significantly inhibited the formation of water-insoluble glucan. These results suggest that Saussurea lappa may inhibit the caries-inducing properties of Streptococcus mutans(2).
3. ISCHAEMIC HEART DISEASE

clinical symptoms, biochemical parameters and ECG, significant improvement was observed in the 65% cases of combined group. These results suggested that therapy with the lipid lowering drug Kushtha also
improves coronary circulation and myocardial functions(3).
4. Anti – hepatitis
In the investigation of the effects of aqueous-methanol extract of Saussurea lappa Clarke root (Sl.Cr)  against D-galactosamine (D-GalN) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced hepatitis in mice. Co-administration of D-GalN (700 mg/kg) and LPS (1 microg/kg) significantly raised the plasma transaminase levels (ALT/AST) as compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Pretreatment of mice with different doses of Sl.Cr (150, 300 and 600 mg/kg) significantly prevented the D-GalN and LPS-induced rise in plasma levels of ALT and AST in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.05)(4)
