I. Definition
Kidney yin deficiency is defined as a condition of the
yang is not rising. Since kidney is one of organ governed the
reproductive system and regulates the production of certain hormones
during the process of menstrual cycle, deficiency of kidney yin distorts
each step of the reductive function in phrase I, leading to prolonged
yin phase.
II. Symptoms
1. Vagina dryness caused by the inability of kidney in fluid distribution

Scanty cervical mucus caused by the inability of liver in stimulating
cervical gland in cervical mucus production due to deficiency of yin.
3. Sensation of heat due to body dryness
4.
Dizziness caused by affecting of the brain due to the inability of
kidney in performing its function as the brain, the spinal cord, the
bone matrix and marrow regulator.
5. Heat flushes due to lack of estrogen.
II. Causes
1. Typical American diet
Women
who love to diet with high level of saturated fat and trans fat as well
as drinking cold drink comes directly from the refrigerator are most
likely to suffer kidney yin deficiency caused by excessive yang produced
in the stomach's function in food absorption.
2. Spleen qi deficiency
Since
spleen in charge of transformation qi and fluid in the body and to the
other organ, damage of the spleen or stomach inability to provide enough
yin for the productive organ to perform its normal menstrual cycle,
cause prolonged yin phase.
3. Rigid exercise
Rigid exercise depletes the yang from the body and diverts blood and yin qi away from the reproductive system.
4. Sex
Since
traditional Chinese medicine defines women as yin in nature, excessive
sexual activity depletes not only the kidney essence, but also Jing from
the kidney, leading to kidney yin deficiency.
5. Lung qi
Since
lung is important to moves the qi downward to support the blood
movement to the reproductive organ, deficiency of lung qi reduces the
kidney function in moving qi upward, leading to kidney deficiency.
IV. Treatment
1. Herbs
a) Chinese angelica roots (Dong qui)
It is one of most effective blood tonic herb. Whenever there are qi deficiency, it also causes blood deficiency.
b) Rehmannia glutinosa (Shu di huang)
It is one of the good herb for tonifying blood, nourishing yin and blood and enriching kidney essence.
c) Ligustrum lucidum (Nu zhen zi)
Nu zhen zi is good for liver and kidney tonification and clearing heat due to yin deficiency.
d) Morus Albus (Sang shen)
The herbs is most used in nourishing yin, tonifying blood and promoting the generation of body fluids
2. Acupuncture
Suggested acupuncture points:
BL15 (Xinshu), BL18 (Ganshu) BL23 (Shenshu) HT7 (Shemeen), KD3(Tai Xi) and LI3 (Taichong) and SP6 (Sanyinjiao).
