Cervical Stenosis is defined as a degeneration of
the structures of the spine as a result of aging causes of a slowly
progressive condition of the cervical spinal cord. Spinal stenosis cause
pressure on the spinal cord, which may lead to the symptoms of
myelopathy. Cervical spinal stenosis with myelopathy is a common disease
in elderly patients of male gender(2)
D. The Diet
Foods that maintain a healthy weight, enhance immune system and anti aging effect can reduce the risk of Cervical Stenosis
1. Green tea
Researchers at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Science,
showed that the survival-enhancing effects of EGCG on C. elegans under
stress are very important for antiaging research, as
the significant longevity-extending effects of EGCG on C. elegans could
be attributed to its in vitro and in vivo free radical-scavenging
effects and its up-regulating effects on stress-resistance-related
proteins, including superoxide dismutase-3 (SOD-3) and heat shock
protein-16.2 (HSP-16.2), in transgenic C. elegans with SOD-3::green
fluorescent protein (GFP) and HSP-16.::GFP expression(9).
2. Avocados
In the study of Methanolic (80%) extracts obtained from lyophilized
ground peels and seeds of avocado (Persea americana Mill.) of the Hass
and Shepard varieties were characterized for their phenolic compound
profiles using the HPLC-PAD technique, showed that The peel extracts
had a higher total phenolic compound content and antioxidant activity
when compared to the seed extracts. The highest TEAC and ORAC values
were apparent in peels of the Haas variety in which they amounted to
0.16 and 0.47 mmol Trolox/g DW, respectively. No significant (p >
0.05) differences were apparent between the TEAC values of seeds of the
two varieties but the ORAC values differed significantly (p <
0.05)(10)
3. Skin and seed of grape
Resveratrol is naturally present in certain fruits and vegetables
including grape skins and especially in red wine. Similar to red wine,
resveratrol possesses diverse biochemical and physiological properties
including anti-inflammatory and immunomulatory activities as well as
wide range of health benefits ranging from chemoprevention to
cardioprotection. Recent studies implicated that resveratrol also
possesses antiaging properties(11).
4. Soy
In the study to investigate the effectiveness of isoflavones as
antioxidants, in vitro, and demonstrated the antioxidant effect of a soy
diet in rats with myocardial infarction (MI), showed that rats
receiving the ISP diet demonstrated increased activity of antioxidant
enzyme activity and nitrite/nitrate content. In addition, the increase
in LPO seen in rats subjected to MI was significantly mitigated when the
ISP diet was given. These findings suggest a nutritional approach of
using a soy-based diet for the prevention of oxidative-stress-related
diseases such as heart failure.(12).
5. Turmeric
Chronic curcumin treatment of both 6 and 24 months old rats resulted in
significant decreases in lipid peroxide and the lipofuscin contents in
brain regions, the activities of SOD, GPx and Na(+), K(+), -ATPase
however, showed significant increase in various brain regions. The
present study, thus, demonstrated the antioxidative,
antilipofusinogenesic and anti-ageing effects of curcumin in the brain,
according to the study of Jawaharlal Nehru University(13).
