Butcher's Broom, the Functional Herb that May Cure Hemorrhoids

Herbal Butcher's broom may be used as a therapeutic treatment to cure hemorrhoids, some scientists suggested.

Hemorrhoids, also called piles are a common condition characterized by swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum.

The causes of hemorrhoids are unknown.

However, some researchers suggested that straining during bowel movements, a prolonged period of sitting due to the occupation that induces increased pressure on these veins are associated with the early onset of the condition.

In women, a pregnancy that causes pressure on the anus and swollen veins and lower rectum veins may also increase the risk of hemorrhoids.

According to statistic, a quarter of adults population in the US have hemorrhoids developed at some points in their lives.

Most patients with hemorrhoids do not experience any symptoms. But in some infectious cases, hemorrhoids may induce symptoms of itching, discomfort, and bleeding.

Please be aware that some internal hemorrhoids can grow so large that they stick out of the anus. Prolapsed hemorrhoids, most of the time may require surgery to heal.

Butcher's broom is a low evergreen shrub, a species of Ruscus aculeatus, belongings to the family Asparagaceae, native to Eurasia.

The herb has been used in herbal medicine to treat inflammation, peripheral vascular disease, hemorrhoids, bronchial asthma, varicose veins,.......and hypotension.

It contains rutin, sitosterol, sparteine, spirostanol saponins, steroidal sapogenins, sterols, stigmasterol, sulfated steroidal saponins, sweet broom, tetracosanoic acid, triterpenes, triterpines, tyramine, etc.

Also, according to the research article in Page 608 Alternative Medicine Review ◆ Volume 6, Number 6, butcher’s broom was tested to have a significant effect on patients with hemorrhoids in an open trial, as 75 percent of participating physicians rated butcher’s broom’s efficacy as good or excellent(3).

Furthermore, application of the herbal medicine also is found to be effective in preventing time-consuming, painful, and expensive complications of hemorrhoids, such as anal discomfort, soiling and bleeding present in the acute phase(3).

The information finding indicated that herbal Butcher's broom may be as effective as conventional medicine and surgery in curing hemorrhoids with no or little side effects.

However, intake of herbal medicine and herbal extracts should only be prescribed by related field specialist in the prevention of acute liver toxicity.
