Beta-Sitosterol Inhibits the Onset of Insulin Resistance In Vivo

By Kyle J. Norton

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate glucose.

In other words, diabetes occurs when cells in the pancreas die off or receptor sites are clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

Insulin resistance is a condition in which cells that convert glucose to energy in the muscles, body fat, intestine, and liver ignore the signal of the hormone insulin signaling.

In other words, patients with insulin resistance are hyperglycemic. The syndrome is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes.

Other hallmarks of diabetes are hyperglycemia, a medical condition of abnormally high blood glucose, which is a major concern, in people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Epidemiologically, people with insulin resistance are associated with an increased risk of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and chronic conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, and cancer.

Most cases of insulin resistance in the Western world are involved in the clogged-up insulin receptors.
As the signals of the hormone insulin are blocked, insulin resistance develops, leading to more production of insulin by the body.

Over time insulin resistance leads to damage to the beta cell in the pancreas, an early condition of prediabetes and types 2 diabetes.

According to statistics, over 100 million Americans are living with insulin resistance. Approximately 1 in 3, including half of those age 60 and older have a silent blood sugar problem known as insulin resistance.

There are no single causes of insulin resistance, Epidemiologically, aging, ethnicity, overweight or obesity, too much belly fat, physical inactivity, smoking, and certain medical conditions such as Cushing’s disease or polycystic ovary disease are some of the prevalent factors that induce the risk of the condition.

However, most people with some of the aforementioned risk factors have never developed insulin resistance.

Beta-Sitosterol is a phytochemical in the class of Phytosterols, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in avocados, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, fennel, peanuts, soybeans, hawthorn, basil, buckwheat. etc.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, researchers investigated the anti-diabetic activity of β-sitosterol (BSS) isolated from Acacia nilotica (L.) Delile on diabetic complications.

According to the results from of experiment with ANL orally administrated (50 and 200mg/kg) to alloxanized mice (blood glucose > 200mg/dL) for 20days,
* ANL lowered (65%, P< 0.001) systemic glucose load in diabetic mice, which was otherwise 398% higher than control.

* ANL lowered (35%) insulin resistance, without any significant effect on insulin sensitivity (P> 0.05).

* Anti-hyperglycemic properties of ANL were further supported by lowering of HbA1c (34%; P< 0.001) and improved glucose utilization (OGTT).

* Hepatic (ALT, AST) and renal (creatinine, BUN) injury markers associated with the onset of diabetic complications were also lowered by the administration of ANL.

* ANL also exerted a normalization of dyslipidemia.

* The levels of oxidative stress markers MDA in the liver, kidney, and skeletal muscle were lowered through the herbal medicine antioxidant activity.

The efficacy of ANL in inhibiting insulin resistance was attributed mostly to the parts of high phenolic and flavonoid content, tocopherol, catechol, and β-sitosterol that enhance the levels of antioxidant defense protein Nrf2.

Taken altogether, beta-Sitosterol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of beta-Sitosterol in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Inhibit Parameters induced by Diabetes in Vivo

By Kyle J. Norton

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose.

In other words, diabetes occurs when cells in the pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

Most common types of diabetes are
* Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, the most common form diabetes found in children is a condition in which the pancreas does not produce any insulin. The most common form of type 1 diabetes is caused by genetic mutation and some viruses.

As of today, there is no cure for type 1 diabetes. Treatment is focusing on managing blood sugar levels with insulin injection, diet, and lifestyle change.

* Type 2 diabetes is a medical condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose due to either cell in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

The most common symptoms of type 2 diabetes are an increased thirst that won't stop with water intake, increased hunger (especially after eating), dry mouth, frequent urination, and unintentional weight loss.

* Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that can occur during pregnancy, affecting between 3% and 20% of pregnant women.

Women with gestational diabetes are at an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in later life.

Hyperglycemia, a medical condition of abnormally high blood glucose, is a major concern, in people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Omega-3 fatty acids are phytochemicals in the class of lipids, found abundantly in deepsea fisk, dark-green leafy vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, etc.

The three main components of Omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

On finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, researchers examined the antioxidant activity of Omega 3 fatty acid used in a combination with metformin (Met) in diabetic rats.

The study included 50 rats induced diabetes by the administration of streptozotocin, 15 min after the administration of nicotinamide with ten animals per group divided into the following: Control; Diabetic untreated; Diabetic + ω-3; Diabetic + metformin (metfm) and Diabetic + ω-3 + metf groups for 28 days.

Diabetes rats before treatment showed a significant increase of calcium to phosphorus ratio, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), glucose and insulin resistance, and decrease of parathyroid hormone(PTH), phosphorus, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and hepatic glycogen.

ω-3 or metformin single treatment caused significant elevations in hepatic glycogen, total alkaline phosphatase (TALP), osteocalcin, PTH, estradiol, and calcium; however, significant decreases in TRAP and glucose.

Co-administration of ω-3 and metformin caused more desirable effects on TALP, c-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen, estradiol, and calcium to phosphorus ratio compared to the single administration.

In other words, co-administration restored the parameter changes induced by the injection of streptozotocin-induced diabetes in tested rats.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "the combined but not the single administration of ω-3 and metformin could be preferably used in the management of bone health in the diabetic state"

Taken altogether, Omega-3 fatty acids used in a combination with other conventional medicines may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of Omega-3 fatty acids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Chickweed Methanolic Extract, Maybe An Anti Obesity Supplement, Scientists Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Adding one or two portions of chickweed into the daily diet may have a positive and profound effect in inducing weight loss, particularly, in overweight and obese patients, some studies suggested.

Obesity is a medical condition of extreme overweight. The disease is an epidemic in the United States. According to the statistic, over 68% of the US population are overweight and half of these overweight people are obese.

According to epidemiological studies, patients with obesity are at a higher risk for serious diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

According to Body Mass Index (BMI), the range of overweight is between 25 and 29.9. If your BMI is 30 or over you are considered obese.

The exact causes of obesity are unknown, however, there is a number of prevalent risk factors that cause the early onset of the condition including consuming too many calories than the body needs, a sedentary lifestyle, not sleeping enough, too much stress that leads to endocrine disruption and medication that cause patients to put on weight.

Genetic mutation inherited from the parents also is one of the major causes of obesity.

Dr. Hélène Choquet, the lead author in the study "Genetics of Obesity: What have we Learned?" In 2001, six genes were linked to monogenic human obesity and no common variants were reproducibly associated with polygenic obesity. By 2008, progress in the field led to the discovery of eight monogenic genes and four polygenic genes (FTO, PCSK1, MC4R, CTNNBL1) from associated studies at the genome-wide level of significance".

In the management of overweight and obese patients, researchers at the Park Nicollet Bariatric Surgery Center suggested, "lifestyle modifications should be recommended for every patient dealing with overweight or obesity" and " No single diet has proven to be superior to others overall in terms of weight loss outcomes. However, a low-carbohydrate (ie, ketogenic) diet has been shown to reduce insulin resistance in patients with diabetes and may be considered for this subgroup of patients".

" Exercise alone has not been shown to produce substantial weight loss, but it is helpful during the weight loss phase to preserve lean muscle mass, and it has a role in weight maintenance. Though sleep deprivation has been implicated in weight gain, the effect of improving sleep quality/duration on reducing excess weight has yet to be studied adequately".

These results indicated, actively engaging in low calory diet without causing nutrient deficiency and physical exercise on a long-term basis, and reducing stress levels may be considered good management for overweight and obese patients to lose weight.

Chickweed is a cool-season annual plant in the genus S. media, belonging to the family Caryophyllaceae, native to Europe.

The herb has been used in herbal medicine as astringent, carminative, demulcent, diuretic, expectorant, laxative, refrigerant, and to treat skin conditions, indigestion, eczema, cough, rashes,...

In the finding of a natural ingredient without a side effect in replacement of conventional medicine and surgery in obese patients researchers at the CMR College of Pharmacy, Medchal conducted an evaluation of the effect of chickweed (S. media (MESM)) on food consumption patterns, change in body weight, thermogenesis, lipid metabolism, and histology of fat pad, using progesterone-induced obesity model in female albino mice.

Methanolic and alcoholic extracts of the S. media were used in the experiment. At the final assessment, researchers suggested, the application of a methanolic extract of S. media (MESM) demonstrates a significant effect in preventing the increase in body weight, adipose tissue weight and size, and upturned obesity and associated complications, compared to the alcoholic extract.

Further analysis also discovered, the antiobesity activity produced by MESM is attributed to the anorexic property mediated by saponin and flavonoid and partly by its β-sitosterol content.

Moreover, β-sitosterol, a plant sterol having structural similarity with dietary fat isolated from the methanolic extract of S. media shows a physical competition in the gastrointestinal tract against fat absorption.

Other chemical compounds found in the methanolic extract such as saponin, flavonoids, steroids and triterpenoids, glycosides, and anthocyanidins are also found in aiding the results of weight reduction.

Additionally, the examining of numerous trials conducted by some institutes with an aim to find and develop new anti-obesity drugs through herbal sources with minimizing side effects compared to anti-obesity drugs, researchers at the University of Science and Technology launched an evaluation of the quality control parameters, quantitative phytochemical analysis (total phenolic, total flavonoids, and total saponin content), and the anti-obesity effect of lyophilized juice (LJ) of Stellaria media (Linn.) Vill. in vitro and in vivo models.

The anti-obesity effect of LJ was assessed at two doses, 400 mg/kg and 900 mg/kg body weight in mice fed a high-fat diet with or without LJ for 6 weeks.

Application of both doses in tested mice inhibited pancreatic amylase and lipase activity and elevated plasma triacylglycerol level.

At the dose of 900 mg/kg body weight of the mice fed with a high-fat diet, LJ suppressed the increase in body weight, retroperitoneal adipose tissue, liver weights, and serum parameters viz., total cholesterol, total triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol level

Dr. Rani N, the lead author of the final report, wrote, "The anti-obesity effects of LJ in high-fat-diet-fed mice may be partly mediated through delaying the intestinal absorption of dietary fat and carbohydrate by inhibiting digestive enzymes".

The findings suggested that chickweed methanolic extract may be considered an adjunct therapy in preventing weight gain in overweight and obese subjects.

Intake of methanolic extract of chickweed (S. media (MESM)) should be taken with extreme care, as acute liver toxicity has been reported in a number of cases.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of chickweed during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of the wholefood anti-obesity possibilities.

Tocopherols Inhibits the Onset of Liver Cancer in Vitro

By Kyle J. Norton

The liver organ is one of the organs with a lack of nerve tissue, therefore liver cancer does not induce pain until the later stage of injury.

Liver cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth irregularly in the liver tissue.

The causes of liver cancer are associated with the alternation of cells' DNA which normally begins in the cells on the surface of the inner lining.

Liver cancer at the early stage no not cause any symptoms. However, at the advanced stage, liver cancer cells can cause a wide range of symptoms including jaundice, abdominal swelling and pain, and dark urine and white stool accompanied by the general symptoms of cancers such as unintended weight loss, loss of appetite, chronic fatigue and tiredness and gastrointestinal discomforts.

The most common cause of liver cancer is infected by the hepatitis virus. However, in North America, due to the overexpression of the overweight and obese population, liver cancer may be slowly progressed from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease through cirrhosis to liver cancer.

There is a number of risk factors other than those mentioned above associated with the onset of liver cancer such as male, ethnicity, hepatitis viral carriers.

However, most people with some of the above risk factors have never developed liver cancer.

According to the statistics provided by the Canadian Cancer Society, every year, approximately, 1,900 men and 580 women are diagnosed with liver cancer, causing the death of 950 men and 270 women.

In 2017, 2,500 Canadians were diagnosed with liver cancer and 1,200 Canadians died from liver cancer.

Compared to the early stage of other cancer, the 5 years survival rate in the early stage diagnosis is only 31%, and 43% of people with liver cancer are diagnosed at stages 0 and 1.

Tocopherols are phytochemicals of which many have vitamin E activity, belonging to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in butter, egg yolk, milk fat, some vegetable, and seed or nut oils, etc.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention and treatment of cancers, researchers examined the effect of poly(lactide-co-glycolide)/d-alpha-tocopherol polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate nanoparticles to accomplish the simultaneous delivery of an optimized ratio of doxorubicin (DOX) and elacridar (ELC) to target both LCSCs and liver cancer cells.

According to the analysis, in vitro
* DOX/ELC molar ratio of 1:1 works synergistically to exhibit significantly increased cytotoxic effects against both HepG2 and HepG2-TS
* DOX/ELC showed a stronger anti-cancer activity, compared with DOX-loaded nanoparticles (NDs) or ELC-loaded nanoparticles (NEs).

* Furthermore, the nanoparticles exhibited better tumor targeting, with NDE showing the strongest antitumor activity with lower systemic toxicity.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "These results suggested that NDE represented a promising combination therapy against liver cancer by targeting both liver cancer cells and CSCs".

Taken altogether, tocopherols may be considered a supplement for reducing the risk of liver cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of tocopherols in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Beta-Sitosterol, the Potential Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis

By Kyle J. Norton

Skin, a large organ that forms the out layers of our body has serval layers of ectodermal tissue to protect the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments, and internal organs against foreign pathogenic invasion.

Dermatitis or eczema is a group of diseases characterized by the inflammation of the skin.

There is no single cause of eczema, anything that we face every day can trigger a dermatitis flare, including stress, irritants, climate change, and sweating. However, infection and allergens. are considered the most common causes of the disease.

Atopic dermatitis or eczema is an inflammatory condition associated with red and itchy skin.

Most cases of atopic dermatitis are found in children. However, adults may also get it too.

The causes of atopic dermatitis are unknown. Some researchers suggested that certain risk factors such as genetic preposition and abnormal function of the immune system and environmental conditions may involve in the development of the disease.

Epidemiological studies suggested that most patients with chronic atopic dermatitis also have asthma and hay fever, particularly allergies.

Atopic dermatitis has been found to associate with exposure to allergens such as pollen, pet dander, or peanuts, or by stress, dry skin, and infection.

Some atopic dermatitis may also be triggered by skin irritants such as some fabrics, soaps, and household cleaners.

Beta-Sitosterol is a phytochemical in the class of Phytosterols, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in avocados, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, fennel, peanuts, soybeans, hawthorn, basil, buckwheat. etc.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention and treatment of skin diseases, researchers examined the effect of β-sitosterol (BS) on atopic dermatitis (AD).

In NC/Nga mice induced AD-like skin lesions in NC/Nga by 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB), BS reduced the total clinical severity of AD.

The application of BS inhibited the Infiltration of inflammatory cells and the number of scratching, compared to the DNFB-treated group.

In other words, BS significantly reduced the levels of inflammation-related mRNA and protein and tumor necrosis factor-α from the stimulated splenocytes in the AD skin lesions.

Furthermore, BS significantly also reduced the levels of histamine, IgE, and interleukin-4 associated with skin inflammation n the serum of DNFB-treated NC/Nga mice

Taken altogether, beta-Sitosterol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of beta-Sitosterol in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Phytochemical Betacyanins Isolated From Beetroots May Process Anti Prostate Cancer Potency

By Kyle J. Norton

The prostate gland is a male reproductive organ warped around the urethra located in front of the rectum and just below the bladder responsible for making some of the semen that carries sperm.

The muscle of the prostate gland also plays a critical in nourishing and protecting sperm by secreting fluid in perm ejaculation into the urethra.

Prostate cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by abnormal cell growth in the tissues of the prostate.

Most cases of prostate cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining tissue of the prostate, before penetrating into the deeper layers to colonize the entire prostate through cell proliferation.

At the advanced stage, prostate cancer also can spread to distant parts of the body. Most prostate cancers are slow-growing. Enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during the physical (rectum) exams.

According to the statistics provided by the Canadian Cancer Society, in Canada, 1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime, and the mortality rate of men is 1 in 27.

In other words, 1 in 4 men diagnosed with prostate cancer will die because of the disease.

The exact causes of prostate cancer are unknown, Epidemiologically, researchers do know that the below are some factors that increase the prevalence of the diseases
* Age
The risk of developing prostate cancer increases with the age of over 45

* Family history
If one of your directed family members has prostate cancer, you are twice at risk to develop it.

* Race
Prostate cancer is more likely to strike black and white in the US.

* Heredity
Researchers found that up to 70 percent of men with prostate cancer have lost one copy of the Phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) gene at the time of diagnosis. The tumor protein 53
(p53) mutations are a late event in the pathology of prostate cancer.

* Low levels of vitamin D in the blood
Researchers found that men with a deficiency of level of vitamin D in the blood are at higher risk to develop prostate cancer.

* Excessive drinking
Excessive drink not only increases the risk of liver cancer but is also associated with a higher risk of prostate cancer as it interferes with folate metabolism.

* Enlarged prostate
Men with an enlarged prostate are at high risk in developing prostate cancer.

* Sexual transmitting diseases
Infected diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis are associated with a higher risk of the diseases.

* Obesity
In a study of Obesity May Raise Risk of Prostate Cancer Spread, Christopher J. Keto, MD, a urological oncology postdoctoral associate at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. found that overweight men were three times more likely to have their cancer spread.

However, most people with some of the risk factors have never had developed prostate cancer

Betacyanins are phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments, belonging to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of prostate cancer, researchers examined the effect of the red beetroot extract (Beta vulgaris L.), the FDA-approved red food color E162 on the development of multi-organ tumors in experimental animals.

In human androgen-independent, human prostate cancer cells (PC-3) researchers compared the cytotoxic effect of the red beetroot extract with an anticancer drug, doxorubicin (adriamycin),
* Both doxorubicin and the beetroot extract exhibited a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect in the PC3 cancer cell lines.

* Further analysis of the cytotoxic activity of beetroot extract, researchers found that although the cytotoxicity of the beetroot extract was significantly lower compared to doxorubicin, it continued to decrease the growth rate of the PC-3 cells (3.7% in 3 days vs. 12.5% in 7 days) at the concentration of 29 µg/ml compared to those of doxorubicin which completely inhibited the growth of the PC-3 cells in three days at the same concentration level.

* According to the chemical differentiation, the efficacy of beetroot extract anti-prostate cancer activity was attributed to the major betacyanin constituent, that plays an important role in the cytotoxic exhibition.
In other words, all phytochemicals work synergistically to exert anti-prostate cancer properties, particularly, betanin, the major ingredient of betacyanin.

Taken altogether, betacyanins used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of betacyanins in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Healthy Food Turmeric Inhibits the Brain Cell Damage Against the Onset of Memory Deficits

By Kyle J. Norton

Memory impairment is a condition associated with a slow decline in memory, thinking, and reasoning skills. Over time, the condition can worsen enough to affect the quality of life and daily activity.

Memory loss frequently is an early sign of memory deficit. Many factors can cause memory change. However, memory impairment in the elderly in most cases is associated with a gradual loss and death of neurons such as Alzheimer's disease.

Some memory changes can be resolved on their own or cured by medical treatment if the underlining cause is found. However, loss or gradual loss of neurons capacity cannot be revered such as dementia.

According to statistics, in the US, approximately 5.7 million people are living with dementia. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer's disease, affecting 5.5 million people of all ages.

The most common risk factor associated with memory deficit is increasing age, smoking the genetic preposition of APOE-e4, also linked to Alzheimer's disease, obesity, and medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and depression, and physical inactivity.

Out of many risk factors, aging may be one of the major culprits that cause memory deficit in large numbers of older adults, leading to irreversible memory impairment such as AD and PD.

Dr. Gary W Small, said, "Memory changes cause concern to many patients as they grow older.". However, there are some factors that can decrease the progression of the condition, including stress reduction, physical and mental activity, a healthy diet, and lifestyle choices.
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belongings to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

On findings a potential compound that processes anti-neuro-degeneration, researchers examined the effects of curcumin on the early stage amnesia of AD related to memory retrieval deficit.

Selected Male NMRI mice (20-25 g body weight) included in the study were treated with 50 or 100 mg/kg/po curcumin or its vehicle for 10 days. During the experiment, the animals were trained in passive avoidance apparatus ar days 10 and 30 min. before the retention test that performs after 24 hours of curcumin or its vehicle application, scopolamine (1 mg/kg/i.p.) or its vehicle was administrated.

According to the tested analysis, curcumin treatment at 50 and 100 mg/kg doses not only inhibited the activity of scopolamine in the induction of memory retrieval deficit but also restored Akt and GSK dephosphorylation associated with neuroprotection against scopolamine.

In other words, curcumin at the tested concentration effectively protect the Akt and GSK pathways which play are a critical role in enhancing cell survival by stimulating cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis caused by scopolamine in the brain.

After taking others into account, Dr. Lv KJ, wrote in the final report, "pre-test scopolamine administration disrupts memory retrieval along with with with with the diminished Akt and GSK-3β phosphorylation in the hippocampus while curcumin administration prevented those changes."

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of memory retrieval deficit, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Pungent Spice Onion May Process Anti Asthmatic Property

By Kyle J. Norton

Respiratory disease is a class of medical conditions that affect the breathing organ and tissues. The most common respiratory diseases are inflammatory lung disease, obstructive lung diseases, restrictive lung diseases, and respiratory tract infections.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the airway of the lung with recurring symptoms, such as wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.

The medical condition affects people of all ages, and mostly starts during childhood.

In the US, approximately, 25 million people are living with asthma, including 7 million children.

The most common risk factors associated with the onset of asthma, according to epidemiological studies are
* Wheezing rhinovirus illnesses
Virus-induced wheezing episodes in infancy often precede the development of asthma.

*Airflow obstruction
Asthma and family history of allergic rhinitis are important risk factors associated with airflow. according to the Department of Pediatrics, Lerdsin General Hospitalobstruction.

* Gender
If you are a woman, you are at increased risk to develop asthma. Asthma, after childhood, is more severe in females than in males and is under-diagnosed and under-treated in female adolescents.

* Stress
Stress, whether at the individual (i.e. epigenetics, perceived stress), family (i.e. prenatal maternal stress, early-life exposure, or intimate partner violence), or community (i.e. neighborhood violence; neighborhood disadvantage) level, influence asthma and asthma morbidity.

* Genes
GSTP1, INSIG2, and IL4Ra may influence lifetime asthma susceptibility through gene-gene interactions in schoolchildren.

* Airway inflammation and hyperreactivity
People with airway hyperreactivity are at increased risk to develop asthma as a result of the immune system over-response to allergens.

5. Atopy and viral infection
Atopy – such as eczema, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and viral infection are associated with a higher risk of asthma development.

* Family history
Family history of asthma in one or more first-degree relatives was consistently identified as a risk factor for asthma.

* Smoke during Pregnancy
Smoking and severe asthma exacerbations in pregnancy are risk factors for low birth weight babies.
During pregnancy, asthma exacerbations are more common and more severe in current smokers than never smokers. The risk of the effects of maternal asthma on the fetus may be greater among smokers.

* Low birth weight
In the 1988 national birth cohort, an estimated 4000 excess asthma cases were attributable to birth weight less than 2500 g.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and is found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of asthma researchers investigated the effect of Allium cepa L. extract (AcE) and its quercetin (Qt) on cytokine and on smooth muscle contraction associated with asthma in vitro and Vivo.

According to the tested analysis, * In vitro, AcE 10, 100 or 1000 μg/ml or Qt 35, 7.5, 15 μg/ml, showed a significant effect in inhibition of the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

* With the same concentrations, AcE also expressed the ability to relax tracheal smooth muscle from A/J mice.

* Furthermore, with the concentrations of 100, 1000 mg/kg or 30 mg/kg Qt in Blomia tropicalis (BT)-sensitized A/J mice treated, AcE also decreased the total number of cells of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), and eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) in lungs, the markers found in patients with asthma.

Based on the results, researchers wrote, "AcE and Qt have potential as antiasthmatic drugs, as they possess both immunomodulatory and bronchodilatory properties".

Taken altogether, onion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of asthma, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Tocopherols Prevent the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Induced by Oxidative Stress

By Kyle J.

According to statistics, diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the US. Approximately 10% or 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes, accompanied by 8.1 million that are undiagnosed and unaware of their condition.

About 1.4 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in the United States every year. More than one in every 10 adults who are 20 years or older has diabetes.

The most common forms of Diabetes are
* Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, the most common form of diabetes found in children is a condition in which the pancreas does not produce any insulin. The most common form of type 1 diabetes is caused by genetic mutations and viruses.

* Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of acquired diabetes in adulthood is a chronic condition that affects the body's metabolized glucose. In other words, most cases of type 2 diabetes are the result of insulin receptors clogged up by fat and cholesterol, leading to resisting the effects of the hormone insulin that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells.

* Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that can occur during pregnancy, affecting between 3% and 20% of pregnant women.

Women with gestational diabetes are at an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in later life.

Oxidative stress is a condition characterized by the imbalance of the ratio of free radicals and antioxidant enzymes.
type 2
In some cases, oxidative stress can also be caused by the long-term accumulation of toxic substances in the body, such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic.

Tocopherols are phytochemicals of which many have vitamin E activity, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in butter, egg yolk, milk fat, some vegetable, and seed or nut oils, etc.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of diabetes, researchers examined the effect of α-tocopherol on bone marrow mesenchymal cells derived (BMMCs) from type II diabetes mellitus rats.

According to the experimental results of BMMCs either untreated or exposed to α-tocopherol at concentrations of 1.0, 10, and 100 μM, at the concentration of 100 μM, α-tocopherol showed no effect on cell proliferation, but the significantly increased H2O2 activity against the tested cells.

At 10 μM, α-tocopherol increased the gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNF-α.

Furthermore, the concentration of 100 μM α-tocopherol exerted a lower expression of free radical catalase compared to the other concentrations.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "At a low concentration, α-tocopherol exerted good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on BMMCs" and

"Maintaining α-tocopherol at a low concentration might promote the recovery of BMMCs from oxidative stress".

Taken altogether, tocopherols may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes induced by oxidative stress, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of tocopherols in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Antioxidant Omega3 Fatty Acids Are Effective Against Psoriasis, Studies Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by the speed-up of the life cycle of skin cells, leading to cells building up rapidly on the surface of the skin.

Symptoms of psoriasis caused by the extra skin cells from scales and red patches can be itchy and painful.

Epidemiologically, psoriasis patches can range from a few spots or large areas. The most common form of psoriasis is plaque psoriasis, a condition that induces dry, raised, red skin lesions (plaques) covered with silvery scales.

The causes of psoriasis are not identified, however, researchers believed that genetic proposition exacerbated by certain factors such as weather, injury, illness, or stress are some of the most causative factors that induce the onset of the condition.

Certain risk factors such as family history, viral and bacterial infections, weakened immune systems, persistent stress, are associated with the risk of psoriasis.

Other risk factors associated with psoriasis may include skin injury that did not heal properly, people who are obese and side effects of long-term use of certain medicines such as oral steroids.

Some researchers suggested smoking that has a strong impact on the immune system may also be one of the major causes of psoriasis in smokers.

Conventionally, topical corticosteroids are the most commonly prescribed medication for the treatment of the condition, particularly in patients with mild to moderate psoriasis.

According to the joint study led by the University of Trieste, the increased incidence of a large number of diseases that share an inflammatory origin is probably due to the pro-inflammatory cytokine spillover from active psoriatic lesions, leading to a large inflammation on distant tissues(95).

Additionally, the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School, Boston joint study suggested, individuals with psoriasis have increased blood levels of uric acid. In the documented 2217 incident cases of gout during follow-up. Psoriasis was associated with an increased risk of subsequent gout with a multivariate HR of 1.71

On finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of skin diseases, researchers examined the efficacy and mechanism of action of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) on psoriasis.

The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials that searches the databases of the PubMed/MEDLINE and EMBASE all randomized controlled trials and prospective observational studies compared the 3 PUFAs effects versus control in adult patients with psoriasis.

Out of 12 articles identified in a total of 732 articles that were searched, some studies found that n-3 PUFAs were associated with improvements in the PASI score, erythema, scaling, itching, an area involved, and infiltration.

However, some studies did not find a reduction in scaling, erythema, area involved or thickness in the treatment group.

Based on the findings researchers said, "It is still inconclusive whether the use of n-3 PUFAs in patients with psoriasis is associated with improvements in the severity of psoriasis and other outcomes".

Taken altogether, Omega-3 fatty acids found abundantly in fish oil and plant oil may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of psoriasis, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of Omega-3 fatty acids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Chaste Tree Berry May be a Valuable Remedy For theTreatment of Cancers, Researchers Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Chaste tree berry is found to exhibit a significant anti-cancer activity, a recent study by renowned study advised.

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of years as an aphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable ways in our body. In the late stage, the cancer cells may travel away from the originated site to infect other tissues and organs.

According to the Tianjin Institute for Biomedicinal Research, in the evaluated the apoptosis-inducing effect of chaste tree berry, using observation under a light microscope, flow cytometric analysis, and agarose gel electrophoresis, Vitexicarpin, a flavonoid found in chaste tree berry significantly inhibited proliferation of human cancer cells lines A2780(human ovarian carcinoma), HCT-15(human, colon, colorectal adenocarcinoma), HT-1080(fibrosarcoma cell line) and K562(Human chronic myeloid leukemia cells), depending to the concentration.

Dr. Wang HY the lead researcher in the study said, "Vitexicarpin induces apoptosis.... via mitochondria(in regulated cell metabolism)-controlled apoptotic pathway".

In support of the above analysis, the crude extract prepared with ethanol from dried ripened Vitex agnus-castus fruits exerted strong cytotoxic effects against cancer cell lines of human uterine cervical canal fibroblast (HCF), human embryo fibroblast (HE-21), ovarian cancer (MCF-7), cervical carcinoma (SKG-3a), breast carcinoma (SKOV-3), gastric signet ring carcinoma (KATO-III), colon carcinoma (COLO 201), and small cell lung carcinoma (Lu-134-A-H) cells.

The inhibition of the extract is attributed to the effect on cell death through apoptosis and increased intracellular oxidation in the tumor cells.

Other researchers suggested that the cytotoxic effects of Chaste tree berry may be involved various aspects, including the JNK (apoptosis) pathway. as indicated in the new native lignan VB6 study.

Taking together, there is no doubt, that chaste tree berry may be considered as a valuable chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of various types of cancer, depending on further evaluation.

Broccoli Inhibits the Risk of Breast Cancer in Vitro

By Kyle J. Norton

The breast is the tissue overlying the chest muscles. in women, breasts are made of specialized tissue that produces milk (glandular tissue) and fatty tissue. The size of the women's breasts is totally determined by the amount of fat.

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the breast tissue.

Most cases of breast cancer start either in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk.

There are also rare cases of breast cancer that start in other areas of the breast

The cause of breast cancer is the result of the alternation of DNA of the cells in the breast.

According to statistics, in 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the US alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during the lifetime of a woman is 1/8.

The 5 years of the survival rate of localized breast cancer are closed to 100%.

As of today, the exact causes of breast cancer are still unknown. Researchers believed that
genetic mutation inherited from the parents and an unhealthy diet and lifestyle are the major factors that facilitate the early onset of the disease.

At the early stage of breast cancer, patients may experience symptoms of the lump (mass) in the breast. and in the armpit (lymph nodes), nipple discharge, inverted or retracted nipple, scaly or pitted skin on the nipple, persistent tenderness of the breast, and unusual breast pain or discomfort.

Broccoli is a mustard/cabbage plant, belongings to the family Brassicaceae. The veggie has large flower heads, usually green in color with a mass of flower heads surrounded by leaves and evolved from a wild cabbage plant from the continent of Europe.

On finding a potential whole food for the treatment of cancer, researchers evaluated sulforaphane, a natural compound derived from broccoli/broccoli sprouts, efficacy to inhibit breast CSCs.

According to the results of differentiation, The application of sulforaphane (1-5 micromol/L) decreased the aldehyde dehydrogenase-positive cell population found in some cancers by 65% to 80% in human breast cancer cells.

Furthermore, the size and number of primary mammospheres in the breast cancer cells were also reduced by 8- to 125-fold and 45% to 75% by the injection of sulforaphane.

More precisely, Daily injection with 50 mg/kg sulforaphane for 2 weeks reduced aldehyde dehydrogenase-positive cells by >50% in nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient xenograft tumors.

Moreover, sulforaphane also eliminated breast CSCs in vivo by inhibiting the tumor growth after the reimplantation of primary tumor cells into the secondary mice.

Additionally, sulforaphane also inhibited the expression of Wnt/beta-catenin associated with cellular functions like stem cell regeneration and organogenesis.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "These findings support the use of sulforaphane for the chemoprevention of breast cancer stem cells".

Taken altogether, broccoli processed a high amount of SFN may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Antioxidant Beta-Sitosterol Induces Apoptosis of Colon Cancer Cells in Vitro

By Kyle J. Norton

The colon is also known as the large intestine.
Cancer is a class of chronic diseases associated with irregular cell growth in the tissues of the affected organ.

Colon cancer is relatively very common and slowly growing and progressing in a predictable way.

Most cases of primary colon cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the colon. At the early stage. most patients with colon cancer do not experience any symptoms.

However, at the advanced stage, the tumor not only can spread to other healthy tissue and organs a distance away through blood and fluid circulation but also suppress the nearby tissue and nerve cells.

The progression of colon cancer at this stage not only induces symptoms of the change in bowel habits, the change in the consistency of your stool, that lasts longer than four weeks but also causes rectal bleeding and persistent abdominal severe pain.

According to the statistic by the American Cancer Society, in the US,
97,220 new cases of colon cancer were diagnosed in 2018. The lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is 1 in 22 (4.49%) for men and 1 in 24 (4.15%) for women.

The causes of colon cancer are unknown but certain risk factors, such as genetic preposition and chronic inflammation induced by colonic diseases are associated with the onset of the disease.

Patients with the early stage of colon cancer, may not experience any symptoms. But as the tumor spread and expanse, it may suppress the nearby tissue and nerve, causing symptoms of locally severe pain and discomforts.

Although there are many risk factors associated with the early onset of colon cancer, a poor diet high in saturated fat and trans fat, red meat and processed foods have been found to play a major role in the development and recurrence of colon cancer in the Western world.

Beta-Sitosterol is a phytochemical in the class of Phytosterols, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in avocados, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, fennel, peanuts, soybeans, hawthorn, basil, buckwheat. etc.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors, researchers examined the anti-radical activity, cytotoxic on human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines (COLO 320 DM).

According to the experimental analysis, beta-sitosterol exerted a significant dose-dependent growth inhibition of COLO 320 DM cells at IC50 and a dose of 266.2 microM,

Furthermore, beta-sitosterol also induced apoptosis by scavenging reactive oxygen species and suppressed the expression of beta-catenin and PCNA antigens in human colon cancer cells.

Moreover, in vivo, the beta-sitosterol supplementation reduced the number of aberrant crypt and crypt multiplicity in DMH-initiated rats in a dose-dependent manner with no toxic effects.

More importantly, the doses of 10-20 mg/kg b.w. beta-sitosterol had chemopreventive potential by virtue of its radical quenching ability in vitro, with minimal toxicity to normal cells.

Taken altogether, beta-sitosterol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of colon cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of beta-Sitosterol in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Healthy Food Eggplants, the Cardio-Protective Veggies, Scientists Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a whole fruit or vegetable with the potential to treat cardiovascular disease with no side effects, some studies found.

Cardiovascular disease is a class of conditions associated with heart and blood vessels. Anything that affects the normal heart and blood vessel functioning is considered risk factors of the disease, including heart muscle, valves, or rhythm, and blockage of blood vessels.

According to the statistics, in the US, approximately, 610,000 people die of heart disease every year that's 1 in every 4 deaths. The disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women.

The causes of cardiovascular diseases are associated with the location that affects the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, including atherosclerosis is caused by the blockade of the blood vessel due to the accumulation of plaques in the arteries and arrhythmias caused by abnormal heart rhythms.

Epidemiological studies strongly suggested that the most common cardiovascular disease that affects mostly heart disease patients is coronary artery disease (CAD).

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common form of heart disease caused by one or more of the coronary arteries becoming narrow or blocked.

Some researchers suggested that the widespread diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) in the Western world probably is a result of the promotion of the Western diet over the last few decades.

A diet high in bad cholesterol salts sugar and carcinogens associated with the accumulation of plaques on the arteries has been found to be a culprit of the onset of coronary artery disease in many studies.

Dr. Oikonomou E, the lead author in the joint study led by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in the concerns of CAD widespread in the Western world launched an investigation to examine the independent predictive value of an unhealthy diet on the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD).

In the total of 188 symptomatic stable patients with CAD. Patients were categorized as having severe CAD or nonsevere CAD by coronary angiography.

Among several demographics and clinical characteristics, all patients were tested using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire.

By analyzing the 8 principal components in the 8 distinct dietary patterns found in the returned questionnaire, researchers found that The Western dietary pattern (increased intake of fat, red meat, and carbohydrates and minimal consumption of fruits and green leafy vegetables) was predictive of severe CAD (area under the curve: 0.73, 95% confidence intervals: 0.64-0.83, P < .001).

These results not only suggested that the Western not only causes the onset of the disease but also increased the risk of severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with stable CAD.

The doctors in the study wrote the final report, "the findings highlight the role of dietary patterns when estimating cardiovascular risk for the management of patients with CAD".

Eggplant is a species of S. melongena, belonging to the family Solanaceae and native to India.

The plant has been cultivated in southern and eastern Asia since prehistory. It is famous for its deep purple and the best eggplant can be found from August through October when it is in season.

The chemical constituents of eggplant include sterols (i.e. typical plant sterols, androstane, pregnane, and cholestane derivatives, steroidal alkaloids, and sapogenins), phytosterols, triterpenes, δ-amyrin, Chlorogenic acid, Nasunin, and other Polyphenolic compounds.

In the finding, a natural compound with the efficacy for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease with no side effects, researchers at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine examine the role of raw and grilled eggplants on cardioprotection using an isolated perfusion heart model.

The animals were fed freeze-dried products of either raw or grilled eggplants for 30 days. After 30 days, isolated working hearts were subjected to 30 min ischemia followed by 2 h of reperfusion.

The medical assays suggested eggplants process potent cardioprotective compounds judging by their ability to increase left ventricular function, and reduce myocardial infarct size and cardiomyocyte apoptosis.

Interestingly, researchers found no difference in cardioprotective ability between the raw and grilled products.

Based on the antioxidant vitamins classification, researchers showed that vitamin A, vitamin C, and β-carotene, were lower and some of the polyphenolic components, especially nasunin content, were higher in grilled eggplants, These results indicated that there must be some other ingredient processed by both grill and raw eggplants that exert cardiovascular diseases not found in this study.

Moreover, in the study to analyze total phenolics and antioxidant capacity in the indigenous vegetables for cardioprotective effect researchers at the Tuskegee University conducted a group analysis including collard greens, mustard greens, kale, okra, green onion, butter beans, butter peas, purple hull peas, rutabagas, and eggplant.

At a concentration of 10.0 mg dried vegetable equivalent/ml, the extract of these vegetables exerted a significant antioxidant activity by reducing 13.2-88.5% DPPH(•) radical in 30 min.

The Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. (ORAC) value ranged from 2.5 to 100.7 µmoles of Trolox equivalents per gram of dried sample.

The antioxidant capacity of the vegetable samples was highly related to their total phenolic content.

The evidence suggested these indigenous vegetables are good sources of phenolic compounds, which might provide anti-oxidative protection against free radicals in inducing chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease.

Taken altogether, eggplant processed abundantly bioactive antioxidants may be considered a functional vegetable for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular disease without inducing any adverse effects

Healthy Food Ginger May Process Anti Obesity Property, Researchers Say

By Kyle J Norton

Ginger may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of obesity without inducing side effects, some scientists found.

Obesity is a medical disease associated with extreme overweight.

In other words, obesity is the accumulation of excess fat to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on patient health.

According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, and a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity.

According to the statistic, 68% of the American population is either overweight or obese.

What causes obesity? Some researchers suggested that too much calories consumption and lack of physical exercise are the 2 main causes of obesity in once healthy individuals.

Some scientists indicated, there is no coincidence but a close correlation between the onset of obesity in a large percentage of Americans and the promotion of the Western diet in the past few decades.

Dr. Bortolin RC, the lead researcher in the obese team in the joint study led by the Instituto de Ciências Básicas da Saúde-Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS in the examine the new animal diet based on human Western diet said, "Obesity is a metabolic disorder that predisposes patients to numerous diseases and has become a major global public health concern".

And, " diet, and not the obese state, was the major driving force behind gut microbiota changes. Moreover, the marked dysbiosis observed in CAF-fed rats might have resulted from the presence of several additives present in the CAF diet, or even a lack of essential vitamins and minerals".

These results strongly suggested that the Western diet alters the gut microbiota composition (dysbiosis) probably due to substances found in the Western diet foods, that are not found in other diets, compared to the group treated with HFD developed the greatest dysbiosis independent of obesity

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

On finding natural ingredients or whole food for the treatment of obesity researchers examine the traditional use of ginger in an animal model.

Application of ginger in vivo and vitro demonstrated a potential anti-obesity effect in regulating the PPARγ signaling pathway in adipocytes in the initiation of obesity,

Diet-induced obesity was attenuated in C57BL/6J mice treated with the dietary ginger extract (GE)also exhibited an increase in energy expenditure.

GE also exerted an anti-obesity effect through promoting the increased number of Types I muscle fibers, running endurance capacity, and upregulated PPARδ-targeted gene expression in skeletal muscle

Furthermore, the cellular respiration assay also revealed that pretreating cultured skeletal muscle myotubes with GE increased palmitate-induced oxygen consumption rate, which suggested an increase in cellular fatty acid catabolism, another anti-obesity activity.

After taking into account co and confounders, researchers said, "6-Shogaol and 6-gingerol (the ginger bioactive constituents)may be responsible for the regulatory effects of dietary ginger on PPARδ signaling".

Moreover, additional investigation of ginger exerts protective on obesity and its complications, researchers showed that gingerenone A, a bioactive compound isolated from ginger had the most potent inhibitory effect on adipogenesis and lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells among ginger components at a single concentration (40 μM).

In vitro data, GA attenuates diet-induced obesity (DIO) by reducing fat mass in mice, accompanied by a modulation of fatty acid metabolism via activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in stimulating weight loss, in vitro and in vivo.

Dr.Suk S the lead author said in the final report, " GA may be used as a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of obesity and its complications by suppressing adipose expansion and inflammation".

Taken altogether, ginger processed abundant bioactive compounds may be considered a functional food in stimulating weight loss in obese subjects.
