The Effects of #Sencha #GreenTea on Depression, According to Studies

Sencha is a type of decocted Japanese green tea, the most popular tea in Japan, made from dried tea leaves without grinding the tea leaves. Its volatile compounds could be used as markers for the overall quality evaluation of all green tea.

a. In the observation of the effects of Green tea consumption and psychological distress of the study of "Green tea consumption is associated with lower psychological distress in a general population: the Ohsaki Cohort 2006 Study" by Atsushi Hozawa, Shinichi Kuriyama, Naoki Nakaya, Kaori Ohmori-Matsuda, Masako Kakizaki, Toshimasa Sone, Masato Nagai, Yumi Sugawara, Akemi Nitta, Yasutake Tomata, Kaijun Niu, and Ichiro Tsuji[21a], researchers found that The odds ratio (with 95% CI) of developing psychological distress among respondents who consumed ≥5 cups of green tea/d was 0.80 (0.70, 0.91) compared with those who consumed <1 cup/d and concluded that Green tea consumption was inversely associated with psychological distress even after adjustment for possible confounding factors.

In the investigation of Green tea consumption and the risk of depressive symptoms of the study "Green tea consumption is associated with depressive symptoms in the elderly" by Niu K, Hozawa A, Kuriyama S, Ebihara S, Guo H, Nakaya N, Ohmori-Matsuda K, Takahashi H, Masamune Y, Asada M, Sasaki S, Arai H, Awata S, Nagatomi R, Tsuji I.[20b], researchers found that the prevalence of mild and severe and severe depressive symptoms was 34.1% and 20.2%, respectively, and concluded that more frequent consumption of green tea was associated with a lower prevalence of depressive symptoms in the community-dwelling older population.
