#Fig #HydroalcoholicExtract Inhibits Parameters Associated with Nephrotoxicity through Its Antioxidant Activity, According to Studies

The kidneys, a pair of bean-shaped organs on either side of your spine are the second detoxed organ after the liver by removing wastes or toxins in the blood that come from the normal breakdown of active muscle and from the food you eat.

Kidney dysfunction can reduce the body's ability to clean your blood, filter extra water out of your blood, leading to fluid retention and high blood pressure in the early stage.

Chronic kidney disease is a gradual loss of kidney function over time. Chronic kidney failure is the end stage of chronic kidney disease which has been found in high numbers in patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, and other disorders.

Unlike many diseases, kidney diseases often have no symptoms until it is in a very advanced stage.

Acute kidney dysfunction or acute kidney failure is a result of insufficient blood flow to the kidneys such as renal hypertension. These types of kidney dysfunction can be cured if the causes are found.

Most cases of acute kidney dysfunction may be associated with toxins accumulated in the kidney organs, leading to the condition of nephrotoxicity.

Renal toxicity or nephrotoxicity in most cases is toxicity in the kidneys caused by toxic chemicals and medications.

The most common symptoms of renal toxicity may cause reduced kidney function in eliminating toxins, leading to a reduced amount of urine. swelling of your legs, ankles, and feet from the retention of fluids.

In a serious case, the condition can also result in unexplained shortness of breath. excessive drowsiness or fatigue. persistent nausea. confusion. pain or pressure in your chest.

The World Health Organization wrote, "Exposure to mercury – even small amounts – may cause serious health problems, and is a threat to the development of the child in utero and early in life.".

And, " Mercury may have toxic effects on the nervous, digestive and immune systems, and on lungs, kidneys, skin, and eyes".

Fig is a species of F. carica, belonging to the family Moraceae. It is a deciduous shrub, native to Southeast Asia. The tree can grow to a height of 33 ft and the fruit can be as large as 2.0 inches.

In finding a natural whole food for the treatment of kidney diseases, researchers examined the hydroalcoholic extract of ficus carica (HEFC) on gentamicin (GM)-induced nephrotoxicity.

The study included rats that were pre-fed experimental diets for 8 days and received GM (100 mg/kg body weight/day) treatment for 8 days while still on diet.

According to the tested differentiation, hydroalcoholic extract of ficus carica (HEFC) retard the progression of certain types of cancers, cardiovascular and renal disorders.

HEFC inhibited GM nephrotoxicity by attenuating the increased serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen.

Furthermore, HEFC also inhibited the GM increased MDA level and decreased catalase, reducing glutathione.

More precisely, HEFC alone increased antioxidant expression such as CAT concentration, and GSH content, and decreased oxidative stress MDA level.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "HEFC supplementation ameliorated GM-induced specific metabolic alterations and oxidative damage due to its intrinsic biochemical/antioxidant properties".

Taken together, common fig processed abundantly anthocyanin may be considered a natural anti-oxidative stress remedy against kidney toxicity, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of SFN in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
