#Greentea 8 oz (237 ml) or More Cups/day Is Associated with a Reduced Risk of #KidneyCancer, Researchers Say

Green tea may have a substantial and sustainable effect in reduced risk and treatment of renal cancer, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. According to the evaluated 250 newly diagnosed, histologically confirmed Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) cases and 299 sex-, age-matched healthy controls provided complete information by the face-to-face interview in Shanghai between 2007 and 2009, application of green tea at the dose of ≥500 ml/d demonstrated a significant inverse association to risk of CCRCC.

Indeed, green tea consumption of lower than the said volume such as 8 oz (237 ml) or more cups/day was also associated to decrease renal cell cancer risk, compared to non-drinkers, according to the report of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Further analysis also found that interactions with the environmental exposures association with polymorphisms of the xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes in induced CCRCC risk, also inhibited by green tea extract through increasing serum and liver antioxidant capacity and strengthening the stability of microsomal and lysosomal membranes of healthy cells in compared to control.


In a free radical aspect, the examined Wistar rats induced renal cancer pre-treated with N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylnitrosamine (EHEN) by oral injection of drinking water for 2 weeks, also found that administration of green tea extract catechin ( 0.1% polyphenon-60) over 30 weeks of period of treatment exhibits a significant effect in decreasing the incidence of renal cell tumors greater than 3 mm in diameter but not tumors that are less than 3 mm in diameter, through overexpression of antioxidant in suppression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylnitrosamine (EHEN) pre-treatment.

Importantly, in alternated gene expression in increased prevalence of cancer in human subjects,
application of green tea polyphenol, catechins have been reported to reverse change of DNA methylation in contributing to the tumor repressive gene of RGS2 (regulator of G-protein signaling 2) in modulated expression of cancers and increased the regulation of conversion of DNA to RNA (transcription) of these genes in ameliorated risk of renal and other cancer(s).


Furthermore, the application of the combination of green tea extract bioactive catechins and epigallocatechin gallate also showed to modulate DNA methylation by attenuating the effect of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) to ensure the fidelity of replication of inherited epigenetic patterns.

Aberrant DNA methylation patterns are associated with increased prevalence of renal and other tumor(s).

Taken together, Green Tea and its polyphenols bioactive compound catechins and epigallocatechin gallate may have a potential and therapeutic effect in reduced risk and treatment of renal cancer through antioxidants and anti-gene alternative activities.
