Daily Intake of Plant Sterols of #Aloeveragel (Aloe sterol) Inhibit Skin Wrinkles by Increases the Skin Barrier Function, Moisture, and Elasticity, According to Studies

Skin aging is a natural process with skin expression of thinner, paler, and pigmented spots, including age spots, and liver spots.
Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in the discovery of single-ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)..., particularly, in aging cosmetic products.

Numbers of herbal whole foods and their phytochemicals have been found in many anti-aging products and they are sold to the general public with or without clinical and nonclinical trials.

How many of these types of products are actually working, the numbers are vague, depending on who you talk to.

According to the statistic, 10 of most common herbal plants may be consumed or only be used as a topical application, including aloe vera, the first in the list, avocado, almond, henna, sandalwood, saffron, elder tree, neem, lavender, and amla. The list may be altered, depending on specialist preferences.

Some researchers suggested that honey best known for its properties of dressing for wounds and burns, may be also used as a cosmetic anti-aging substance as it exerts emollient, humectant, soothing, and hair conditioning effects, keeps the skin juvenile and retards wrinkle formation, regulates pH and prevents pathogen infections, through its antioxidant activities(1).

Cosmetic products are a very profitable business. The global anti-aging market is growing rapidly, the total sale may reach over $331.41 billion by 2021, according to Orbis Research

The causes of skin aging can be both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, Dr. Poljšak B and colleagues in the study of skin aging said, " It is well accepted that oxidative stress contributes significantly to extrinsic skin aging, although findings point towards reactive oxygen species (ROS) as one of the major causes of and single most important contributor; not only does ROS production increase with age, but human skin cells' ability to repair DNA damage steadily decreases over the years"(3).

Oxidative stress overexpression in the outer skin layer due to environmental stress and lifestyle and diet preferences may interfere with the normal growth of healthy skin, leading to the onset of skin aging.

These results are actually caused by the incapability of the body enzymes to function in the stimulated production of antioxidants to counter the levels of free radicals and their domino effects, causing alteration of the ratio of antioxidants and reactive oxygen species in the host body in the induction of skin aging.

Truly, intrinsic and extrinsic aging causes significant alter the skin structure and components, which subsequently can impair molecular characteristics and biochemical processes, as suggested by Dr. Fang JY, the lead author of a joint study led by Chang Gung University(2).

The list of preventable risk factors and common causes of skin aging can be interesting, including
* UV exposure
* Makeup wipes
* Dirty makeup brushes
*Poor diet
* Stress,
* Smoking
* Excessive alcohol intake
* Repetitive facial expressions
* Physical inactivity,......

Aloe Vera or Aloe Vera supplements may be used to delay skin aging degeneration, particularly, in the expression of wrinkles.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belongings to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.

It is very popular and cultivated commercially, due to its health benefits.

Herbal medicine has been used for the treatment of many kinds of ailments, including wounds, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, etc.

A wrinkle is a skin degenerative condition caused by the loss of the dermis and the subcutaneous fat layer underneath the skin, leading to a slight line or fold on the skin, particularly in the face.

According to the Food Ingredients & Technology Institute, daily oral intake of plant sterols of Aloe vera gel (Aloe sterol) significantly increases the skin barrier function, moisture, and elasticity in the skin, thus reducing risk the of skin wrinkles.

In a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 48 apparently healthy men (age range: 30-59 years; average: 45 years), given oral Aloe sterol supplementation for 12 weeks, at the end of week 12 researchers found that the application shows a significant improvement of the skin elasticity index in comparison to the baseline value.

Dr. Tanaka M, the lead author said, "Aloe sterol ingestion increased skin elasticity in the photodamaged skin of men aged <46 years, and "No Aloe sterol intake-dependent harmful phenomenon was observed during the intake period".

Furthermore, in vitro, Aloe sterols increased the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in skin response to connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. approximately two-fold and 1.5-fold, and promoted gene expression levels in human dermal fibroblasts.

In fact, daily application of Aloe sterol-containing Aloe vera gel powder (AVGP) significantly reduced facial wrinkles in women aged ≥40 years as well as stimulating collagen and hyaluronic acid production by human dermal fibroblasts.

Injection of Aloe Vera gel enhanced healthy skin by promoting elasticity (R2), net elasticity (R5), and biological elasticity (R7) scores and skin fatigue area F3, according to the Food Ingredients and Technology Institute 12 weeks study suggested.

Taken together, there is no doubt that oral and topical administration of aloe vera or aloe vera supplements may improve skin conditions caused by skin degeneration in all aspects, but the quality of amount intake should only be prescribed by related field specialists.
