Black Tea, The Beverages That Block and Reverse the Onset of Dyspepsia, Naturally, Researchers Reveal

Kyle J. Norton

Black and green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect on the prevention of dyspepsia, some scientists suggested.

Dyspepsia is a digestive condition of ingestion.

The exact causes of dyspepsia are unknown. However, researchers suggested that patients with the onset of a stomach ulcer or acid reflux disease are most susceptible to the condition.

Certain medication such as aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics (metronidazole, macrolides) and diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome is associated with the increase risk of dyspepsia.

Some researchers also suggested that unhealthy choice of lifestyle such as smoking, excessive alcohol drinking also have a strong impact on the onset of the disease.

Dr. Umapati C. Baragi, the lead scientist in the study of diet and lifestyle in the etiopathogenesis of Urdhwaga Amlapitta (non-ulcer dyspepsia) said, "dietary patterns, lifestyle choices, and physical activities play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of Urdhwaga Amlapitta, and it is important for patients to have access to diet and lifestyle modifications. Currently, research in this area is minimal"

Symptoms of dyspepsia include pain in the chest, stomach burning pain, bloating, heartburn, upset stomach,.... digestive discomforts.

If you experience the above symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Black tea is a beverage with more oxidization, compared to other teas such as oolong, green, and white teas.

In the investigation of aqueous extract (BTE) and thearubigins isolated from green tea effects in sildenafnil-induced delay in gastric emptying (GE) and small intestinal transit (SIT) in total of 160 mice, randomly assigned to 20 groups with 8 in each group,  treated by different or combination of doses of BTE, thearubigins (TRs), sildenafil (SLD), metoclopramide, L-NAME (hydrochloride) and black tea extract researchers found that pretreatment of certain doses of green tea aqueous extract (BTE) and thearubigins significantly reverse motility-delaying effects caused by injection of sildenafnil.

Further differentiation also indicated that additional injection of black tea at 3% and 4.5% increases function of thearubigins (50 and 60 mg/kg) dose-dependently in promoted dyspepsia in mice in compared to the insignificant effect of the combination of BTE at 6% and thearubigins 70 mg/kg.

Moreover, combination of metoclopramide, a medicine used mainly for treatment of ingestion in people with delayed stomach emptying, BTE 4.5%, thearubigins 60 or nω -Nitro-l-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (l-NAME) with sildenafil (5 mg/kg) reversed its motility-delaying effects,

This improvement of dyspepsia was partially blocked by application of l-NAME through reducing function nitric oxide and improving gastrointestinal smooth muscle mobility by observation of the pretreatment of l-NAME followed by application of BTE alone or combination of thearubigins 60, BTE + sildenafil, and thearubigins + sildenafil.

Dr. Murad HA, the lead author, after taking into account of confounders said, "BTE 4.5% or TRs 60 mg/kg solution could be considered a reliever therapy for the sildenafil-induced dyspepsia".

Additional investigate the role of hot water extract of black tea [Camellia sinensis (L) in normalizing the changes in the intestinal transit and gastric emptying induced by various ulcerogenic agents in experimental rats found that application of black tea extract significant promotes the intestinal transit and gastric emptying caused by glutathione (GSH) depleting agents, diethyl maleate (DEM) in decreased mucosal content in aid of digestion, indoacetamide (IDA) in reduced stomach acid secretion, gastritis, and mucus thickness on gastric transfer and N-ethyl maleimide (NEM) with function of  in significantly reduced the mucosal SH levels and the lesions.

Oral administration of black tea extract (BTE) at 20 ml/kg of a 10% solution once a day for 7 day also expressed a significantly increased the intestinal transit and gastric emptying similarly to those of conventional succimer (60 mg/kg, i.g.), the standard sulfhydryl containing an antiulcer agent
through the restoration of antioxidant of serum GSH level.

However, such increase of intestinal transit induced by BTE was reversed both by N-omega-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) (25 mg/kg, i.p.) and N-omega-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) (25 mg/kg, i.p.), in reduced levels of NO in the aided stomach in the production of gastric acid for digestive function.

Dr. Maity S, the lead author said, "restoration of intestinal nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was found to be associated with BTE treatment" and "These results provide evidence that nitric oxide may play a role in BTE-mediated movement of intestinal motility changes and gastric emptying induced by DEM, IDA, and NEM".

Taken together, black tea with plenty phytochemicals may be considered as functional food in reducing risk and treatment of dyspepsia.

However, intake of tea supplement should be taken with exceptional care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

Yoga Intervention Alleviates Symptoms By Improving Lung Functions of Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Kyle J. Norton (Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a randomized controlled study suggested.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)) is the third leading cause of death in the United State, inducing symptoms of breathlessness and fatigue and making physical activity more challenging.

COPD is a chronic condition caused by lung inflammation that obstructs the airflow from the lungs.

Most common symptoms of COPD are breathing difficulty, cough, mucus (sputum) production,.... and wheezing.

According to the statistic, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects about 32 million persons in the United States.

Conventional treatment of COPD focuses on the management to improve patients' functional status and quality of life by preserving remained lung function, according to Medscape

Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement,.... and gesture.....

The technique is well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a randomized trial with two study arms (yoga and control) of total of 81 coal miners enrolled, ranging from 36 to 60 years with stage II and III stable COPD, assigned either on conventional treatment or combination of conventional care with yoga program for 12 weeks, after review the returned questionnaire, researchers found that
* Compared to other groups, yoga group displays strong improvements of COPD on all scales.

*Also, Compared to the conventional treatment group, yoga group expresses significantly positive effects in both physical and mental health status.

Dr. Ranjita R, the led researchers said, "Yoga seems to be a safe, feasible, and effective treatment for patients with COPD".

More profoundly, in the evaluated 43 patients with symptomatic, moderate-to-severe COPD assigned to the 12 weeks of pranayama plus education versus education alone taught by 2 yoga professionals, researchers indicated the following results
* Yoga group shows a strong performance in the 6-min walk distance (6MWD), compared to education the only group.

* Yoga also displays small improvements in inspiratory capacity and air trapping.

Researchers, after adjusting to other risk factors said, "Both groups had significant improvements in various measures of symptoms, but no overall differences in respiratory system impedance or markers of oxidative stress or systemic inflammation".

Truly, yoga posture and breathing practices improve blood circulation to the lung and muscle of the organ function, thus increasing the air flow to the lung in the absorption of volumes of oxygen for the body needs.

With the additional supply of oxygen to the blood, patients with COPD not only can increase walking distance but also can perform other physical activity. Thus, enhancing the quality of life, including mental health.

In other words, yoga intervention significantly enhances inspiratory capacity and air trapping and improves the central nervous system in the regulation of certain hormones which have the functions in the stimulation of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory expressions.

The efficacy of yoga mentioned on the above is also supported by the evaluated the effects of yoga training on the quality of life (QOL) and the parameters of lung function in patients with COPD of 33 patients with COPD satisfied with study criteria selected, after attending yoga exercises including breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga postures for 1 hour, thrice a week for 6 weeks by a certified yoga therapists.

Compared to conventional treatment
* Yoga intervention showed an impressive improvement of vital capacity (95% CI 2.53-7.65), maximal inspiratory pressure, and maximal expiratory pressure, observed for the St. George Respiratory Questionnaire.

* The intervention also expressed short-term benefits in enhancing QOL and lung function

Taking all together, yoga may be used as a secondary form of exercise combined with standard therapy for ameliorated symptoms and treatment for COPD patients.

Green Tea, The Potent Functional Beverage Which Protects Your Lung Against The Onset of Pneumonia, Medline Studies Find

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in inhibiting the onset of pneumonia, some scientists suggested.

Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. The disease may be contagious, as it can spread from person to person, depending to types infectious pathogens.

However, pneumonia induced by fungal passed from the environment to human is not contagious from person to person.

Bacteria Gram-positive cocci. Streptococcus pneumonia is most causes of community-acquired pneumonia in adults and Haemophilus influenza is the second most common cause of bacterial pneumonia.

Additionally, people who have a weakened immune system, are hospitalized or being on a ventilator. and smoking is most likely to be infected the disease.

Certain chronic medical condition including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, structural lung disease, and heart disease are found to associate with an increased risk of pneumonia.

The common symptoms of include chest pain when you breathe or a cough, persistent coughing, fatigue. fever, sweating and shaking chills. If you over the age of 50, you may also have the symptoms of confusion or changes in mental awareness'

According to the statistic, the disease affects over approximately 450 million people a year, in all parts of the world.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

In the investigation of green tea bioactive polyphenol catechins activity in the inhibition of infectious agents, researchers at the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine launched a population-based cohort study, with follow-up from 1995 to 2006, using the database of  National Health Insurance beneficiaries in Japan (19,079 men and 21,493 women aged 40-79 y).

Participants with missing reports of green tea consumption and a history of cancer, myocardial infarction, stroke, and extreme daily energy intake at baseline were excluded.

The comparison of green tea intake and the risk of death in patients with inflammatory pneumonia was analyzed according to the Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.

According to the review, after 12 years of follow up, researchers found that participants who drink <1, 1-2 cups/d, 3-4 and > or =5 cups/d expressed a reduced risk of the hazard of 1, 0.59, 0.55, 0.53, respectively.

These results indicated that green tea intake was associated with the significantly lower risk of death in patients with pneumonia.

Also, the results of the efficacy of green tea increased substantially and linearly to numbers of cup consumed per day.

Further analysis to confirm the inhibitory effects of tea polyphenols on Chlamydia trachomatis and C. pneumonia. In vitro, researchers at the Saitama Medical School, Iruma conducted an experiment of injection of tea polyphenols, Polyphenon 70S into Chlamydial strains including C. trachomatis D/UW-3/Cx and L(2)/434/Bu, and C. pneumonia AR-39 and AC-43 strains cultivated in cells and HL cells.

At the final phase of the experiment, researchers indicated that in the pre-inoculation method, application of Polyphenon 70S Completely inhibits both straits without inducing any adverse effects.

However, in the post-inoculation method, injection of Polyphenon 70S at a dose of at 0.5 mg/ml demonstrated no inclusive effect against of C. trachomatis but induced toxicity to HeLa229 cells and HL cells at a concentration of 0.25 mg/ml.

Additional differentiation concluded that application of tea polyphenols may be considered as a potential topical usage.

Interestingly, in the study to clarify the in vitro effect of EGCG on C. pneumonia mediated IgE responses by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in asthma by using PBMC from subjects with asthma and non-asthmatic controls incubated with C. pneumonia and cultured for 10 days ±EGCG (0.5, 5.0, 50 ng/mL), with IgE levels of PBMC from non-asthmatics of <2.0 ng/mL) at baseline scientists showed that application of EGCG (0.5-50 ng/mL) displays a significant inhibitory effect of PBMC from the asthma patient, by suppressing the IgE production in a dose-dependent manner (10-30%), compared to no EGCG treatment group.

More importantly, injection of green tea EGCG exerted insignificant effect against PBMC from non-asthmatics incubated with C. pneumoniae as the  IgE levels are undetectable (<2.0 ng/mL).

These results suggest that green tea EGCG demonstrated a cell protective activity against bacterial invasion through its cytotoxicity without causing harm to nearby healthy cells.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols may be considered as functional food in amelioration of the risk and treatment of pneumonia. Intake of green tea supplement should be taken with extreme care, as acute liver toxicity was reported in numbers of cases.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the beverage during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of green tea anti-pneumonia possibilities.

Green Tea, The Beverage Which Balances the Gut Microbiota in Optimizing the Digestive Health, Scientists Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in improving microbiota imbalance in inducing of obesity and gastrointestinal diseases, some scientists suggested.

Gut microbiota is microorganisms that live in the digestive tracts in humans and animals processed functions in tandem with the host’s defenses and the immune system to protect against pathogen colonization and invasion.

According to the study by Dr. Ye Yan and colleagues in the study of microbial imbalance and intestinal pathologies, there is a complex interplay between the host, bacteria and bacterial genes that may have a strong implication in the development of these intestinal diseases.

Overexpression certain harmful bacteria in the gut such as E. coli can utilize a complex arsenal of virulence factors to colonize and persist in the intestine, leading to gut microbiota imbalance on facilitation of the early onset of gastrointestinal diseases.

The doctors continued, "Some of these virulence factors, such as the genotoxin colibactin, were found to promote colorectal cancer in experimental models".

Truly, the features of the dysbiotic states caused by large colonic bad bacteria are associated with chronic intestinal inflammation and colorectal cancer.

The exact causes of intestinal dysbiosis are unknown. However, according to the study by the Southern Cross University, a number of factors associated with modern Western living have a detrimental impact on the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract. Factors such as antibiotics, psychological and physical stress, and certain dietary components have been found to contribute to intestinal dysbiosis(4).

Most patients with gut microbiota imbalance may experience symptoms of persistent bad breath, upset stomach. nausea. constipation. diarrhea. difficulty urinating. vaginal or rectal itching,... and bloating.

If you have some of the above symptoms, please make you talk to your doctor to rule out the possibility

Green tea is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

According to the evaluation of obesity-induced of C57BL/6 J male mice by feeding a high fat (HF) diet for 8 weeks, followed by treatment with oral tea saponin (0.5%) mixed in HF diet for a further 6 weeks, injection of tea saponin (0.5%) mice demonstrated an impressive activity in ameliorating endotoxemia which is caused by accumulation of endotoxins in the blood, an indication of overproduction of gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria, reduction of numbers of pro-inflammatory macrophage accumulation in the colon that exhibit colon inflammation and gut microbiota alterations and reduce expression of good bacteria, such as Bifidobacteria, Lactobacillus,... and overexpression of harmful bacteria Escherichia Coli and Enterobacter caused by HF diet.

Patients with digestive disorders have been found to associate with the imbalance of gut microbiota and dysbiosis of the gut bacteria communities that can lead to many chronic issues and diseases, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, colon cancer, and autism......,

In fact, balancing of gut microbiota plays an important role in the harvest, storage, and expenditure of energy obtained from the diet and dysfunction of the community is associated various causes the in the induction of obesity and malnutrition.

According to the study, tea saponin also improved glucose tolerance and reduced body weight gain in HF diet-induced obese mice that may be an expression of green tea extract in limiting the unfavorable gut microbiota alterations in HF diet-induced obesity.

Additional analysis of orally administration of three types of tea infusions for 13 weeks in high-fat-diet-induced obese C57BL/6J mice to examine their anti-obesity and gut microbiota modulatory effects, suggested that application of the tea infusion shows a strong effect in the prevention of the development of obesity with no significant differences and expressed a substantially increased diversity and altered the structure of gut microbiota in tested mice.

According to the high-throughput MiSeq sequencing, multivariate statistical and linear discriminant assays, Dr. Liu Z, the lead author at the Fuzhou University said, "tea infusion consumption substantially increased diversity and altered the structure of gut microbiota" and "(Some) key phylotypes (such as Alistipes, Rikenella, Lachnospiraceae, Akkermansia, Bacteroides,...) might have a close association with the obesity-related indexes of the host".

Interestingly, in male Swiss albino mice were fed with HFD (58% fat kcal) induced alterations of gut microbiota for 12 weeks, green tea extract (GTE) and isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMOs), a naturally occurring plant-based dietary injection, significantly improved liver metabolome associated with lipid metabolism and prevented imbalance of gut microbiota in damage of the lining of the small intestine (leaky gut), through reduced expression of lipopolysaccharides(LPS) in the blood stream(an indication of serve inflammation) and pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g. resistin, TNF-α, and IL-1β).

Dr. Singh DP, the lead scientist at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) after differentiating above illustration said, " Combination (of GTE and IMOs restores the balance of gut microbiota through), improved beneficial gut microbiota (Lactobacillus sp., Bifidobacteria, Akkermansia muciniphila, Roseburia spp.) abundances, restored Firmicutes/Bacteriodetes and improved Prevotella/Bacteroides proportions".

Taking altogether, green tea and its phytochemical constituents expressed strongly improved beneficial effects on multiple parameters in maintaining the favorable gut microbiota ratio in reduced risk of the onset of certain diseases, including obesity, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease.

Carrot, The Best Food to Protect Your Brain Against Cognitive Impairment, Scientists Say

Kyle J. Norton

Carrots may have a profound and positive effect in improving cognitive impairment, some scientists suggested.

Cognitive impairment is a condition characterized by a decline in cognitive abilities, including memory and thinking skills.

People with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are at greater risk in the development of dementia, including Alzheimer's Disease.

According to the statistic provided by the center of Diseases Control and Prevention, more than 16 million people in the United States are living with cognitive impairment and these numbers are increasing in the alarming rate.

Sadly, the CDC continued,  "An estimated 5.1 million Americans aged 65 years or older may currently have Alzheimer’s disease, the most well-known form of cognitive impairment; this number may rise to 13.2 million by 2050".

The causes of cognitive impairment are unknown. However, researchers suggested that aging, genetically mutated gene inherited from parents, such as Down's Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), autism, persistent mental health problems, together with unhealthy diet and lifestyle are associated to the onset of cognitive impairment.

Furthermore, hormonal imbalances, physical damage to the portion of the brain that is responsible for controlling cognitive function and substance abuse are also some major cause of development of the condition.

If you experience some of the symptoms such as confusion, poor motor coordination, loss of short-term or long-term memory, identity confusion,..... impaired judgment, you may have cognitive impairment. Please make sure that you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Carrot, a root vegetable with an orange color is a subspicies of Daucus carota, belongings to the family Apiaceae, native to Asian and Europe.

A. Oxidative Stress
In the investigation of cognitive and memory impairment triggered by oxidative stress, researchers at the Northwest A&F University launched a study of carrot 's major bioactive compound lycopene effect in cognitive defects, using the experiment in the animal model.

The analysis of the results was measured by behavioral tests, including the Y-maze test, locomotor activity and Morris water maze test.

In d-galactose induced CD-1 male mice cognitive impairments, researchers found that chronic lycopene (LYC) supplementation (50 mg/kg body weight per day) alleviates histopathological damage and restored brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in the hippocampus.

These results may be associated with the reduced oxidative stress in the brain of tested subjects through increasing the antioxidants of the supplementation and stimulated production of antioxidants from the body of host tissue as well as decreasing levels of proinfammatory cytokines via activated the mRNA expressions of antioxidant enzymes HO-1 and NQO-1, and inhibited inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α in mice hippocampus.

Observation of the oxidative status, indicated that application of LYC also significantly elevates antioxidant enzymes activities and reduces levels of inflammatory cytokines in the d-galactose-treated mice serum.

Further differentiation also suggested that the anti inflammatory effect is expressed by restoring the
glial cells inflammatory makers which have a strong implication in regulating neurotransmission, inflammatory and neuroprotective pathways, and blood-brain barrier functions.

Additionally, application LYC also attenuated neuronal oxidative damage through activation of Nrf2 signaling incontribution to the anti-inflammatory process and inactivation of NF-κB translocation in hydrogen peroxide H2O2(free radicals) in stimulated inflammatory process.

Of the results, Dr.  Zhao B, the lead author after taking into account of other co and confounders concluded, " LYC could ameliorate oxidative stress induced neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment possibly via mediating Nrf2/NF-κB transcriptional pathway".

B. Diet

In the evaluation of the effects of A Western diet, high in saturated fats in the contribution of the development of cognitive impairment, researchers at the The Third Military Medical University, Chongqing conducted a study with several models to test the effect of lycopene neuroprotective properties.

The results of differentiation were measured through behavior testing including the Morris water maze (MWM), object recognition task (ORT), and anxiety-like behavior in an open field (OF) at the end of the experiment period.

Behavioural testing is a testing of the external behavior of the tested subjects.

On One-month-old male rats fed different diets for 16 weeks (n=12 per group), including a standard chow diet (CD), an HFD, or an HFD plus lycopene (4mg/kg, oral gavage in the last three weeks), researchers found that
* Mice fed with HFD consumption for 16 weeks demonstrated a significantly impaired central nervous system including spatial memory, working memory, and object recognition memory, decreased the dendritic spine density, damaged pyramidal neurons in the CA1 subfield (P<0.001),  compared with the chow diet group.

The authors did not mention the cause of high fat diet in the induction of neuron dysfunction, but based on the analysis of  oxidative stress, one can suspect that these results may be associated to the overexpression of lipid peroxidation in reduced levels of antioxidant and precipitated production of proinflmmatory cytokines in the host.

* Application of lycopene in HFD group or HFD plus lycopene group displayed significantly attenuated learning and memory impairments and prevented the reduction in dendritic spine density.

Injection of lycopene only can delay the progression of the learning and memory impairments but cannot restore the function of the neurons already damage due to HFD.

Dr. Wang Z, the lead scientist of the study at the end of the experiment said, " lycopene helps to protect HFD induced cognitive dysfunction".

Taken together, Carrot and its bioactive lycopene may be considered as functional food in the protection of the central nervous system against cognitive impairment, an early sign of the development of dementia.

However, intake of supplementation should be taken with care to prevent the onset of acute liver toxicity.

Carrots, The Potent functional Food Which Protects the Brain Against Onset of Neuro-degenerative Disorders, Scientists Reveal

Kyle J. Norton

Carrots may have a profound and positive effect in reducing risk, progression, and treatment of the neurodegenerative disorder, some scientists suggested.

Neurodegeneration is the progressive loss of neurons including the death of neurons, characterized by structure loss induced reduction of brain function.

The exact causes of neurodegenerative disorders are unknown. Researchers also do not why people with the same health conditions, some are susceptible to certain neurodegenerative disorders such as
Huntington's disease. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), or Lou Gehrig's disease,  Parkinson's disease or other forms of dementia, while others do not.

However, some researchers suggested that genetic mutation inherited from parents, certain illness and traumatic injury to the brain are some of the major causes of the onset of the disease.

According to Dr. Chaudhuri K, in the study of unhealthy diet and lifestyle on risk of neurodegenerative disorders, the onset of some neurodegenerative disorder was attributed to the unwholesome diet that disturbed mental health in initiating etiopathogenesis of senile dementia.

Further differentiation showed that psychological syndromes such as disturbed sleep, anxiety, tension, depression, difficulty in concentration, and memory, and the tendency to indulge in defective dietary habits, Kapha vitiating diets, and lifestyle are some predominant risk factors associated to the development of the disease.

Carrot, a root vegetable with an orange color is a subspecies of Daucus carota, belonging to the family Apiaceae, native to Asian and Europe.

In the evaluate the neurodegenerative disorder such as Alzheimer and Parkinson's diseases affecting the central nervous system with debilitating effect to the patient, researchers at the University Technology of Mauritius launched a study to test the efficacy of flavonoids, found in many vegetables including carrot.

Flavonoids are phytochemicals containing numbers of the member, including curcumin, lycopene, ginsenoside, vitexin, and baicalin with a proven record of anti-cancer and antioxidant and immunomodulation properties in numbers of studies.

At the results of the analysis, researchers showed that application of flavonoid to the brain ischemia patient also exerts potential neuroprotective effects by increasing neuronal viability, tissue perfusion, and cerebral blood flow and reducing ischemic-related apoptosis.

Moreover, patients treated with flavonoid also demonstrated a significantly anti-amyloidogenic effect and reduced the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the brain that has a strong implication in patients with Pakistan's disease.

After taking into account of other co and confounders, researchers concluded that flavonoid found in numbers vegetables and fruits, including carrot, may be served as a potential therapeutic agent in brain disorders.

Further differentiation of the oxidative stress which causes neurodegenerative disorder, including oxidative damage to neuron in induction of mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis, scientists at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region conducted a experiment to test the effect of lycopene, a polyunsaturated hydrocarbon with the highest antioxidant capacity compared to the other carotenoids against the expression of the diseases.

In rat model randomly divided into 5 groups: the sham group, the spinal cord injury (SCI) group and 3 SCI groups pre-treated with lycopene (5, 10, or 20mg/kg) researchers found that
* Spinal cord injury (SCI) group without treatment group displays a significant increase of malondialdehyde (MDA) content and a decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels, compared to other groups.

Malondialdehyde (MDA) the final form of polyunsaturated fatty acids peroxidation is considered as a natural marker for oxidative stress.

* Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) are natural antioxidants produced the host body tissue with an aim to maintain the balance of ratio of reactive oxygen species and antioxidant in the body.

The expression of lower levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px)  is a strong indication of overabundant free radicals, compared to levels of antioxidant in the body.

* Group treated with lycopene regardless to concentration exerted an overwhelming effect in blocking the change of mRNA of the mitochondrial membrane caused by spinal cord injury (SCI), including cytochrome b and mitochondrial transcription factor A (Tfam), with functions in the induction of mitochondrial dysfunction.

Cytochrome b, a protein in the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells functioned as a  part of the electron transport chain which was oxidated in this case.

Mitochondrial transcription factor A (mtTFA or Tfam), a protein with functions as a key regulator of mammalian mitochondrial (mt) DNA transcription and replication which was altered caused by the presence of MDA.

Further analysis also found that application of lycopene also reduces the risk of neurons cell apoptosis through decreased levels of pro-inflammatory and increased levels of anti-inflammatory expression in the tested rats.

These results suggested that lycopene found in vegetable including carrot significantly ameliorated oxidative damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cell apoptosis via some parameters indicated above.

Dr. Hu W, the lead authors said in the classification of doses application said, " lycopene significantly ameliorated the hind limb motor disturbances in the SCI+lyco10 group and the SCI+lyco20 group compared with the SCI group".

Taken together, carrot with a high amount of bioactive flavonoids, particularly lycopene may be considered a functional food in reducing risk and treatment of various forms of the neurodegenerative disorder, including Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases.

Green Coffee, The Beverage Which Processes Anti Obesity Activity in Vitro, Scientists Reveal

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee may be considered as a function beverage in reducing obesity prevalence and management, some scientists suggested.

According to the information of the World Health Organization, in 2016, approximately, 650 million adults were obese and 39% of adults aged 18 years and over (39% of men and 40% of women) were overweight.

Believe or not, overall, about 13% of the world's adult population (11% of men and 15% of women) were obese in 2016. And the prevalence of obesity has increased at an alarming rate due to 30 years of economic prosperity in the Far East.

Sadly, the organization wrote, "The worldwide prevalence of obesity nearly tripled between 1975 and 2016".

Dr. Janssen I, in the study of "The public health burden of obesity in Canada" wrote, " At present, there are approximately 7 million obese adults and 600 000 obese school-aged children in Canada. Prevalence estimates based on waist circumference are even more troubling as they indicate that 37% of adults and 13% of youth are abdominally obese".

Truly, obesity in Canada not only is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality but also places a large economic burden on the country.

The doctor continued, " In 2006 obesity accounted for $3.9 billion in direct health care costs (e.g., hospitalizations, medications, physician and emergency room visits) and $3.2 billion in indirect costs (e.g., costs related to disability and lost productivity due to illness or premature death)".

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the joint study led by the Huanggang Normal University, the health benefits of coffee studies over last 10 years, expressed a significant improvement of risk and treatment of obesity in decreased lipid accumulation in cells through regulating the cell cycle during fat metabolism.

Additionally, coffee consumption induced changes in transcription factors in fat deposit decreased body weight and visceral fat form of animal and humans studies.

Furthermore, coffee influenced gut microbiota in obese animals and humans also played an important role in the use as a functional and integrated food in reducing risk and treatment of obesity.

The study of obesity-induced mice that fed with the following patterns only HFD or HFD with GCBE at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg for four weeks, researchers found that
* Mice treated with green coffee injection show a significantly decreased body weight gain, liver weight, and white adipose tissue weights through the regulation of adipose tissue lipolysis hormones, such as adiponectin and leptin.

* Mice treated with green coffee injection also demonstrate a decreased mRNA expression levels of adipogenesis and adipocyte metabolis related genes in adipose tissues and the liver and decrease the corresponding protein expression.

* GCBE treated mice had a lower fat mass with decreased relative body weight and fat mass, compared to HFD alone fed mice.

These results suggested that green coffee intake exerted a strong activity in the regulation of adipogenesis and lipid metabolism which are found to associate to enhance weight gain.

According to the information collected, Dr. Choi BK, the lead author said, "GCBE has a potential anti-obesity effect with lowering body fat accumulation by regulating adipogenesis and lipid metabolism-related genes and proteins in WAT and liver".

. Where HFD is a high-fat diet and GCBE is green coffee extracts

More importantly, in the study of male day mice fed a standard diet containing GCBE and its principal constituents, namely, caffeine and chlorogenic acid, for 14 days, researchers at the Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical Co,, Ltd, indicated that
* GCBE with 0.5% and 1% reduce visceral fat content and body weight.

* Caffeine and chlorogenic acid show a tendency to reduce visceral fat and body weight.

* Oral administration of GCBE (100 and 200 mg/kg. day) for 13 days shows a tendency to reduce hepatic TG in mice.

* Chlorogenic acid (60 mg/kg. day) reduces hepatic TG level.

The findings displayed a strong effect of coffee and its phytochemicals in reducing weight gain and fat accumulation by inhibition of fat absorption and activation of fat metabolism in the liver, therefore the beverage may be considered a functional and integrated food against risk and treatment of obesity.
