Food Therapy: Coffee in Improved Vascular Function in Reduced cardiovascular Risks and Complications

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee may have a profound effect in stimulated function of arteries and veins  to provide nutrients  and fluids to the body through blood and water circulation, a joint study suggested.

Vascular function is the action of arteries and veins, in imvolving  blood and water circulation in the body.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the study lead by the University of Reading, chlorogenic acids isolated from coffee roasted bean, acutely improved vascular function, partly acting as a mediators mediated by 5-CQA in regulated the normal function of arteries and veins.

In an acute randomized, controlled, cross-over human intervention trials conducted to examine the impact of coffee intake, matched for caffeine but differing in CGA content (89, and 310 mg) on flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in 15 healthy male subjects, in compared a second intervention trial conducted with 24 healthy male subjects, the impact of pure 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA), the main CGA in coffee(5-CQA; 450 mg and 900 mg) on FMD, researchers filed the following results
1. Low and high CGA(89 mg and 310 mg CGA) intake, showed a significant effect on vascular function 1 hour after injecting coffee
2. Coffee intake was found closely associated to the paralleled to the appearance of CGA metabolites in regulated the normal function of arteries and veins at 5 hours
3. 5-CQA (450 mg) expressed an improvement by FMD assay after i hour of administration.

The information findings suggested that coffee has a strong effect in activated vascular function through its phytochemicals, including CGA and its metabolites in plasma, 3-, 4- and 5-feruloylquinic acid and ferulic-4'-O-sulfate at 1 h and isoferulic-3'-O-glucuronide and ferulic-4'-O-sulfate.

Other, in a total of 38 men and 37 women with a mean ± SD age of 38.5 and body mass index of 24.1 randomly assigned to 3 groups: a control group that did not consume coffee or a placebo and 2 groups that consumed 400 mL coffee/d for 8 wk containing a medium (MCCGA; 420 mg) or high (HCCGA; 780 mg) CGA content, researchers filed the results as follow
1. Coffee consumption over the period indicated and after 1 hours showed a significant presence of caffeic and ferulic acid concentrations in the coffee-drinking groups, with different values in 2 coffee injection group.
2. In the same time as in 1, the levels of antioxidant expression increased substantially in 2 coffee intake group, but undetectable in control group or placebo.
3. All amount of antioxidants and phytochemicals creased to exist after 8 weeks.

The evidences in the study demonstrated a acute effect of coffee in promoting of vascular function in improved nutrients and fluids transportation by arteries and vessels.

Dr. Agudelo-Ochoa GM, the lead author said, "Both coffees, which contained CGAs and were low in diterpenes and caffeine, provided bioavailable CGAs and had a positive acute effect on the plasma AC in healthy adults and no effect on blood lipids or vascular function" and "The group that did not drink coffee showed no improvement in serum lipid profile, FMD, BP, or NO plasma metabolites".

Taking together, there is no doubt that coffee consumption have an enormous effect in improved vascular function in reduced risk of cardiovascular incidence and complications.

Food Therapy: Coffee and Coffee Caffeine In Reduced Risk and Progression of Multiple Sclerosis

Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrients

Good news for coffee loves, high consumption of coffee is associated to decreased risk and progression of  Multiple Sclerosis through  neuroprotective properties of caffeine, a recent study suggested.

Coffee, second to green tea is one of most popular and social beverage all over the world , particularly in the West, made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neuro disease associated to the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system), caused by immune system attacks the protective sheath.

According to the Swedish study comprising 1620 cases and 2788 controls, and a US study comprising 1159 cases and 1172 controls), participants with different habits of coffee consumption based on retrospective data collection, returned questionarie from prticipants showed a significant reduced risk of MS developing for those consuming coffee exceeding 900 mL daily with a relative odd ratio of 0.69 in the Swedish study.

The risk of MS reduced was correlated to cups of coffee consumed daily, regardless to coffee consuming duration prior to disease onset. For every additional intake, the risk MS is decreased proportionally.

In animal model, researchers found that the efficacy of coffee in attenuated risk of MS developing may be attributed to the presence of ingredient of caffeine activity in suppressed production of proinflammatory cytokins.

Additionally, in the investigated of a cross-sectional survey amongst 1372 individuals with MS, registered by the Flemish MS society in Belgium, coffee drinkers showed an improvement of walk for a distance of 100 m with a cane observed by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) in compared to those who never consumed coffee.

Dr. D'hooghe MB, the lead author said, "Consumption of...... coffee .......were inversely associated with progression of disability in relapsing onset MS, but not in progressive onset MS".

Other,in a study of dietary intake of 75 women with relapsing/remitting MS (RRMS) and 75 healthy controls conducted by the Shefa Neuroscience Research Center, to support  coffee caffeine in reduced risk of MS proposed that food frequency questionnaire consisting of 168 food items returned by participants expressed a significant inverse relationship between MS risk and coffee consumption.

The findings reconfirmed that intake of  coffee caffeine  in high amount, regardless numbers years of consumption, is associated to reduced risk of MS developing and ameliorated progression of the disease.

Too much coffee caffeine may have a profound and negative effect in increased risk of headache.

Coffee, second to green tea, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, in the diagnosis of three men aged 33, 35 and 26 years, respectively, and two women aged 67 and 44 years, respectively, as little as 100 mg caffeine, equivalence to 1 cup of coffee may be enough to cause headache.

Dr. Schonewille WJ, insisted that, increased intake of coffee caffeine were found associated to morning or weekend headaches and a decreased response to headache medication or chronic daily headache.

Other, in the investigated population-based cases and controls recruited from the Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA, and Atlanta, GA, metropolitan areas, in compared the rate of headaches of controls (n = 507) reported 2 to 104 headache days/year, and cases (n = 206) reported > or =180 headache days/year, found that
1. High caffeine consumption was associated to onset of chronic daily headache (CDH), in comparison with episodic headache controls
2. Dietary and medicinal caffeine consumption were associated to modest risk factor for chronic daily headache onset, regardless of types of  headache.

Some researchers suggested that with all the finding evidences, coffee consumption associated to caffeine content may have a negative effect in approximately one quarter of the reported prevalence of headache and  other conditions such as palpitations, tremor, and insomnia.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that intake of high coffee caffeine daily and regularly may have an increased risk of early headaches onset and headaches frequency.

Food Therapy: Habitual Coffee Intake in Reduced Risk of Mortality after Heart Attack

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee intake by myocardial infarction patients showed a significant reduced rate of mortality, a renowned institute study postulated.

Myocardial infarction is another term of heart attack.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In a study of 4365 Dutch patients from the Alpha Omega Cohort, aged 60-80 y (21% female) and experienced an MI <10 y before study enrollment, using baseline (2002-2006), to evaluate the dietary data including coffee consumption over the past month collected and 203-item validated food-frequency questionnaire, after examine the returned questionnaire from participants, researchers indicated that
1. Most of patients(96%) were coffee drinkers
2. Intake of coffee >4 cups/d, regularly and daily expressed a inverse association to risk of mortality in compared to 0-2 cups/d.
3. Motility risk after myocardial infarction (MI) was decreased for every cup of additional coffee intake

Interesting, researchers also found out that there were no risk difference between caffeine and decaffeinated coffee.

These findings suggested that the efficacy of  reduced risk of mortality of MI patients may be associated to chemical constituents in coffee, other than caffeine.

Additionally, in the review of literature in the data base of MEDLINE and Embase published between 1946 and 2015, 2 eligible studies iinvolved-AMI mortality risk against coffee consumption with a total of 3271 patients and 604 died, in patients classified as light coffee drinkers (1-2 cups/day) versus noncoffee drinkers, heavy coffee drinkers (a>2 cups/day) versus noncoffee drinkers and heavy coffee drinkers versus light coffee drinkers, scientists filed the following results
1. All groups showed a significant reduction in risk ratio in compared to non drinkers.
2. The hazard risk ratio was 0.79 in light coffee drinkers versus noncoffee drinkers.
3. The risk ratio of 0.54 was found in Heavy coffee drinkers versus noncoffee drinkers and
4. Heavy coffee drinkers versus light coffee drinkers were associated with a risk ratio of 0.69

Although there was no linear association of amount of coffee intake in risk of MI morality, coffee intake expressed a strong effect against risk of death in patients after heart attack.

Most important, even though habitual coffee consumption exerted a enormous effect in reduced risk
coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and stroke as well as reduced risks of mortality, but most of the data on coffee's health effects are based on observational examine with very few randomized, controlled studies, and association does not prove causation, therefore while addressing the possible advantages of regular coffee consumption, researchers must also take into account of potential, risk such as anxiety, insomnia, tremulousness, and palpitations.

Food Therapy: Coffee and Coffee Caffeine in Reduced Risk of Inflammation

Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrients

Intake of coffee daily and regularly has a profound effect in reduced inflammatory expression, a renowned institute study suggested.

Inflammation is a natural reaction of immune system in protect the body against foreign invasion and after injure and damage to tissues or organs.

Coffee, has become a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, is a drink made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In the analysis to clarify the beneficial effects of caffeine consumption in human health and behaviour, the mechanisms against pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases, researchers at the joint study lead by the University of Coimbra found that coffee caffeine reduced onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, through controlling microglia(cells in the brain and spinal cord) reactivity and neuroinflammation.

Dr. Madeira MH, the lead researchers said, "caffeine controls microglia-mediated neuroinflammatory response associated with the majority of neurodegenerative conditions".

Interestingly, the study to evaluate the Spent coffee grounds (SCG) anti-inflammatory effects conducted lead by the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, suggested that the efficacy of SCG in reduced risk of inflammatory is probably associated to high contents of antioxidant such as phenolic compounds, and fermentability by the human gut flora, in regulated the pro inflammatory expressions, even with roasting effect in reduced total phenolic contents of SCG in influenced colonic fermentation.

After considering all other factors, the study strongly insisted, "Spent coffee grounds (SCG), rich in dietary fiber can be fermented by colon microbiota producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) with the ability to prevent inflammation".

Other, more importantly, in the examined numbers of prospective and retrospective cohort studies, coffee consumption against relative risk of developing major depressive disorder in humans, Caffeine and phytochemicals such as chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid and caffeic acid, all important constituents of coffee, showed to attenuated risk of pedression through mediated inflammation, in vitro and in vivo.

Dr. Hall S, the lead author said, "The ability of bioactive coffee constituents to modulate the parameters of neuroinflammation has been shown with caffeine having strong antioxidant properties in vitro, chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid having strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in vitro and ferulic acid having activities in in vivo animal models of depression".

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that coffee intake daily and regularly have a significant effect in reduced risk of inflammation through over expression of the presence of bioactive constituents.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga In Improvement of view of Body Dissatisfaction for Treatment of Eating disorder

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Participation in yoga was associated with significantly lower disordered eating (mediated by body awareness) and potential mediating roles of mindfulness and body awareness in view of body dissatisfaction. a State University of New York at Buffalo study suggested

Binge eating disorder is a condition of compulsive eating of huge amounts of food while feeling out of control and powerless to stop. It is the common eating disorder in the United States affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes and supported by health advocates.

In the study to evaluate the impact of a primary prevention program for eating disorders aimed at fifth-grade females, based on empirically validated risk and protective factors and incorporated interactive discourse, yoga, and relaxation into 10 weekly sessions, researchers found that participated in the yoga combined with other program showed  a significant decrease on scales measuring body dissatisfaction and drive for thinness, as well as media influence without mentioning the results of above programmed intervention.

Other, in the review literature published on PubMed, PsychInfo, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Library, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, the Dutch Journal of Psychiatry (Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie), het Tijdschrift voor Vaktherapie and Actual Themata derived from psychomotor therapy between the period January 1994 to August 2011. 8 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria showed that
1. Yoga group displayad a significant weigh loss after completion
2. yoga group expressed a fewer depressive symptoms and improved bing eating disorder

Dr. Vancampfort D, the led author said, "Activities involving movement and physical exercise deserve to play an important role in the multidisciplinary treatment of binge eating disorders."

The expression of weight loss in yoga participant more or less may have profound effect in body dissatisfaction

More importantly, in the evaluated attitudes about body image and eating in women practicing postural yoga, researchers showed that
1. Yoga group displayed higher scores on all measures including significant correlations questionnaires on variables related to body awareness, intuitive eating, spirituality, and reasons for practicing
2. Yoga group expressed an improvement in body satisfaction and disordered eating

Taking together, yoga lessons may be used as integrated form of exercise in improvement of view of body dissatisfaction  as well as treatment of eating disorder

Alternative Therapy: Yoga Intervention in Reduced Symptoms and Treatment of Osteoarthritis

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga intervention may be used as integrated form of exercise in reduced symptoms and treatment in patients of osteoarthritis, the renowned study suggested.

Osteoarthritis (OA), a form of arthritis, is a condition of aging causes of wear and tear on a joint, affecting over 25 million people in the United States.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a study of total of 36 participants (mean age 72 years) randomly assigned to 8-week yoga program involving group and home-based sessions or wait-list control, researchers filed the following resultos in compared to control
1. At 8 weeks of the class, yoga participants expressed a significant improvement of pain (adjusted PPB (repeated chair stands)
2. According to the McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, from 4 to 20 weeks, yoga group showed a reduced total score of pain but improved physical function.
3. Yoga group also experienced in improved sleep disturbance
4. There were change of BMI and QOL in the group.

After taking into account of other risk factors, Dr. Cheung C, the led author said, " A weekly yoga program with home practice is feasible, acceptable, and safe for older women with knee OA, and shows therapeutic benefits".

Other, in the study of measured  pain and physical and psychological functioning effects in patients randomly assigned either to yoga intervention group or attention control group, researchers found that yoga intervention expressed a greater improvement in depression and quality of life in the yoga group in compared to control group.

Explicitly, in support to the above studies, the community-dwelling older adults (N = 131) randomly assigned to chair yoga (n = 66) or HEP (n = 65)(Thirteen dropped after assignment but prior to the intervention; six dropped during the intervention; 106 of 112 completed at least 12 of 16 sessions) , during 8 weeks of yoga class, measurement of pain, pain interference; secondary: balance, gait speed, fatigue, functional ability in compared to baseline, researchers indicated that
1. Yoga group demonstrated a significant improvement in pain interference during the intervention
2. Yoga group also experienced a greater reduced pain and and fatigue, improved gait speed during the intervention
3. There were no significant improvement sustained post intervention, particularly in balance.

Dr. Park J, the led author said, " An 8-week chair yoga program was associated with reduction in pain, pain interference, and fatigue, and improvement in gait speed, but only the effects on pain interference were sustained 3 months post intervention".

The information collected expressed a substantiated yoga therapy in reduced symptoms of osteoarthritis in an 8 weeks study without mentioning the long term effects.

Taking together, Yoga therapy may have a strong effect in reduced symptoms and management in patents with osteoarthritis, but a long term and large sample cohost study are need to comfirm this validation.
