Food Therapy: Green tea Ameliorated Psychologically Chronic Stress by Normalizing Adrenal Dysfunction and Treatment of Fibromyalgia Caused By Stress Induced Hypo DHEA

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced onset, progression and treatment of fibromyalgia (FM) caused by stress, some scientists suggested.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit and known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition characterized by muscle and soft tissue pain, affecting over 10 million (3.6% of the population) people in US alone.

In the review of the existed literature in relation between fibromyalgia in a somatic response to psychological stress, researchers found that patients with the chronic illness display a numbers of abnormalities in neuroendocrine function as a result of chronic stress.

Further analysis of the hormone expression of HPA axis and sympatho-adrenal system HPA axis, along with the sympatho-adrenal system in response to the chronic stress, researchers found that HPA axis is underactive in fibromyalgia due to insufficient hypothalamus in stimulated the release corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) in activation of cortisol secretion from the adrenals, caused by chronic stress.

Levels of corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) was activated by the responsiveness of DHEA.

These result reaffirmed the consistent with a central abnormality of the HPA axis in fibromyalgia, resulting from the undersecretion of CRH by the hypothalamus.

In a randomized cross-over design study, 18 students (nine male and nine female) participated in three experimental trials on different days at intervals of seven days conducted by the University of Shizuoka, researchers showed that according to the differentiated Saliva collected before beverage intake and after performing the mental stress load tasks, green tea treatment group exerted a significant improvement of Total Mood Disturbance (TMD) score on the Profile of Mood States (POMS).

Moreover, green tea treatment group ameliorated the increased salivary CgA concentration levels in response to psychological and physical stress after mental stress load tasks.

Both green and white tea demonstrated a strong effect in improve performance on an arithmetic task in compared to warm water treated group.

However, green tea ingestion exerted lesser anti stress activity in compared to the consumption of white tea group.

The above differentiation were supported by the study of theanine, an amino acid in green tea anti-stress effects on animals and humans activity in examined three types of green teas, theanine-rich "Gyokuro", standard "Sencha", and Sencha with lowered caffeine (low-caffeine green tea) in mice model, conducted by the joint study lead by the joint University of Shizuoka.

According to the study, application of green tea showed a strong effect in normalized adrenal dysfunction (hyper-adrenal DHEA production), induced by chronic stress, eluted with water at room temperature.

Interestingly, researchers after taking into account of other co founders suggested that application of caffeine and tea, polyphenol EGCG suppressed the anti-stress caused by (hyper-adrenal DHEA production in this case) effects of theanine while EGC and arginine (Arg) retained these effects.

Additionally, in the investigation of green tea phytochemical epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in alleviating age-associated aberrations in immunity, hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in 16 months old male Swiss albino mice, rendomized assigned to four groups of animals (n = 6 per group) given supplemented with either aqueous EGCG at 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg/animal or vehicle control for 6 weeks, scientists indicated that EGCG treatment mice during aging strengthens systemic immunity by enhancing cellular immune response and simultaneously attenuating antibody response aided by increasing adrenal DHEA production(hypo-adrenal DHEA production in this case), another indication of correlation between expression of adrenal dysfunction of development of fibromyalgia.

Green tea anti chronic stress in reduced fibromyalgia caused by adrenal dysfunction was attributed to the over all effects of all chemical constituents, including the levels of theanine, EGC, arginine (Arg) and EGCG.

The findings suggested that green tea consists a significant activity in ameliorated adrenal dysfunction caused by chronic stress, particularly, in chronic stress initiated hypo-adrenal DHEA production for precipitation of fibromyalgia.

Taken together, green tea as a whole food medicine may be considered as a function food in ameliorated early onset, progression and combined with standard medicine for treatment of fibromyalgia due to long term exposure to psychological stress. However, intake of green tea supplement should be taken with extreme care due to recent reports of acute liver toxicity.

4. Coconut oil

Taking altogether, certain foods have been found effectively in reduced risk and treatments of Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). But large sample and multi centers studies are necessary for reconfirm the viability.

Herbal Therapy: Green tea and Its Polyphenols for Prevention and Treatment of Colitis

Green tea may have a therapeutic and profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of colictiss, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Colitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation of the inner lining of the colon as a result of infection, inflammation caused by other bowel diseases.

In the comparison of the effects of green tea extract epigallocatechin-3-gallate, EGCG and
Piper nigrum (L.) alkaloid piperine in mice colitis induced by oral administration of dextran sodium sulfate randomly assigned to a daily oral administration of 6.9 mg/kg body weight EGCG or Piper nigrum (L.) piperine (2.9 mg/kg body weight) or the combination of the both with piperine used in the combination to enhance the bioavailability of EGCG and untreated controls, researchers at the Münster University Hospital showed that mice group treated with the combination demonstrate a significant effect in reduced weight loss and improved over all survival in compared to non treatment group through inducing lesser histological damages to the colon and reduction of tissue concentrations of malondialdehyde, an indication of decreased oxidative stress.

According to neutrophils accumulation assay, application of green tea EGCG and piperine displayed a strong activity in reduced ROS expression in induction of lipid peroxidation through activation of over expression of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GPO).

Further examining also found that the combined ingredients induced a also reduced the production of proinflammatory cytokines.

Dr. Brückner M, after taking into account of other con-founders suggested, "the concept of anti-inflammatory properties of EGCG being generally beneficial in the DSS-model of colitis".

Interestingly, in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mouse model of colitis, application of green tea EGCG (3.2 mg/g) as a source of drinking fluid for 3 days exerted a significant effect in ameliorated of colon shortening and spleen enlargement caused by injection of DSS and modulated the production of levels inflammatory cytokines of of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) and
Interleukin 6 (IL-6), which play the important roles in regulation of immune and inflammatory responses to acute and chronic infections.

Further more, green tea oral administration also decreased levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, a cell signaling protein in activated systemic inflammation and pro inflammatory cytokines in acute phase of reaction and inhibited ROS expression colonic lipid peroxides through antioxidant activity.

Moreover, the bioactive polyphenol EGCG also improved the small intestinal function in reduced leaky gut, associated to risk of increase the number of harmful compounds entering the bloodstream.

Further analysis of green tea efficacy in treatment of colitis, researchers discovered that green tea EGCG also induced weight loss through binding on the surface of the small intestine in decreased protein and lipid digestion.

In additional evaluation of green tea polyphenols (GrTP, EGCG) and sulfasalazine activity in colitis induced by injection of Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) to cause deficiency of IL-10 in BALB/c mice, researchers at the University of Kentucky, postulated that the combined administration significantly ameliorate colonic damage and histological scores in a similar manner (GrTP vs. DSS p < 0.05; EGCG, sulfasalazine vs. DSS p < 0.01) and decrease expression of the inflammatory markers TNFα (3-fold), IL-6 (14-fold) as mentioned above.

Importantly, treated mice with both green tea polyphenols (GrTP, EGCG) and sulfasalazine also expressed a huge improvement in antioxidant capacity in inhibition of ROS in initiated chain reaction to facilitate of plagues formation and inflammation, observed by activity of bio maker lectin levels.

The information findings insisted that green tea with abundantly selective bioactive polyphenols may be considered as a functional food for prevention and treatment of colitis. However, intake of green tea supplement should be taken with exceptional care as acute liver toxicity was reported in numbers of case.

Yoga may be considered as an integrated form of exercise in improved cardiovascular endurance, inflammatory expression, flexibility and quality of life of heart failure patients, some scientists postulated.

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in improved glucose metabolism, some scientists suggested.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga as an Integrated form of Exercise in Reduced Symptoms and Treatment of Urinary Incontinence

Yoga as an integrated form of treatment may be used to improve symptoms and treatment of urinary incontinence, some scientists suggested.

Urinary Incontinence, a medical, psychological, social, economic, and hygienic problem, characterized by loss of the bladder control causing mild or severe form of involuntary leakage of urine.

Yoga, the ancient practical technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

According to the pilot randomized trial of ambulatory women aged 40 years and older with stress, urgency, or mixed-type incontinence, randomized assigned o a 6-week yoga therapy program (n = 10) consisting of twice weekly group classes and once weekly home practice or a wait-list control group (n = 9), after 6 weeks of program
* Women participated in yoga class demonstrated an  incontinence frequency decreased by 70%  in compared to 13% in the control group
* Furthermore, yoga group also expressed a significant decrease in stress incontinence frequency
of 71% in compared to 25% increase in controls
* There was no significant differences in reduction in urgency incontinence

Dr. Huang AJ, the led author after adjusting to other co founders said, "Findings provide preliminary evidence to support the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of a group-based yoga therapy intervention to improve urinary incontinence in women"

Truly, yoga although can not reverse the biological change of hormone due to aging, as aging progress, production of estrogen levels decrease slowly in the peri (before) and post (after) menopausal stage of life may have a profound effect in exhibited stress urinary incontinence stress caused by loss of tissue strength, its mindfulness and slow breathing induced calming effect in the central nervous may result in stimulated production of serum relaxin which has been correlated inversely to urgency incontinence.

The differentiation of above were supported by the study of a single group pre-/post-test design of patients of 55 women participated in the pelvic muscle exercise and yoga program, 34 of recruited from a community health center in Seoul, Korea completed the 8 week, twice weekly intervention program. 

According to the result from questionnaire survey returned researcher indicated that
* The intervention showed a strong improvement in attitude toward pelvic muscle exercise, pelvic muscle strength, and incontinence factor.
* Daily yoga and pelvic muscle exercise was positively correlated with improved incontinence factor
* The intervention also improved health related quality of life to urinary tract symptoms.

 Even with the promising results but due to small sample size of the study, Dr, Kim GS, the led researchers said, "(Although, the)combined pelvic muscle exercise and yoga program was effective for improving overall urinary incontinence in community health center attendees in Korea. Further study is needed with a control group, different populations, and a longer intervention period".

More precisely, in the investigated yoga as a biobehavioral approach to reduce symptom distress in women with urge urinary incontinence, researchers Loyola University Chicago insisted that
yoga as a mind-body therapy, may help to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms of urge urinary incontinence.

Taking altogether, strong evidences finding suggested that yoga may be considered as intervention exercise combined with standard therapy in ameliorated symptoms and treatment of urine incontinence.

Food Therapy: Carrots In Attenuated Risk, Progression and Treatment of Lung Cancer

Carrots may have a profound and positive effect in reduced risk, progression and treatment of lung cancer, some scientists suggested.

Lung cancer is a condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in lung tissue. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may infect other healthy tissue and organ a distance away from the original site.

In the evaluation of a total of 417 lung cancer cases and 849 controls of a hospital-based case control with 'cases' of lung cancer patients diagnosed during the period 1979/80 at seven hospitals in the Lombardy region by interviewed on their life-long tobacco usage and their current intake of four food items rich in retinol or carotene, researcher found that risk of lung cancer increased 3-4 fold in current smokers who did not consume carrots in compared compared with those who ate them more than once a week.

The odd ratio of carrot consumption reduced significantly and linearly to risk of lung cancer.
However, among ex-smokers or non-smokers, intake of carrot did not offer a decrease of lung cancer risk.

Dr. Pisani P the lead author, after taking into account of other cofounder such as vegetables said, "The effect of carrots is independent of histological type of lung cancer while the effect of green vegetables was confined to epidermoid carcinomas".

Further analysis of the antiproliferative effect of retinoic acid amide found abundantly in carrot suggested that retinoic acid amide at dose of 30 μM expressed a significant activity in inhibition of lung cancer cell lines and clonogenic growth.

Application of  retinoic acid amide also induced cancer cell apoptosis in the G2/M-phase cell cycle arrest through inhibition of JAK2 in cancer cell line in signaling cell functions by transmitting messages between cells in initiated growth and proliferation; inhibited STAT3, and STAT5 in cancer cell in expression of inflammatory cytokine to fuel the cancer development and expansion and level of p21WAF1, a key mediator of p53-dependent in cell cycle arrest with function as a tumor suppressor in cancer

At the mean time, application of retinoic acid amide stimulated the decreased cyclin A, cyclin B1 in induction of cell mitosis, and Bcl-XL in expression of anti-apoptotic activity in lung cancer cell line by preventing the release of mitochondrial contents such as cytochrome c.

Additionally, researchers also discovered that the compound injection also increases the expression of caspase-3 and caspase-9 in tumors with function of responsible for executing cell death following cytochrome c release.

In compared to those of conventional medicine, Dr. Li HX, the lead author siad, "retinoic acid amide exhibits promising antiproliferative effects against human lung cancer cells in vitro and in vivo and enhances the antiproliferative effect of methotrexate".

The above differentiation were supported by the reviewing the 16 studies selected for elevation between lung cancer and vitamin A in humans, conducted by Dr. Palgi A.

According to the study, high intake of dietary vitamin A has a protective effect against the development of squamous and small cell carcinoma of the lung in smokers and people who consumed carrot daily have a lower risk of lung cancer in compared to non consumers.

However, due to limitation of several factors, researcher postulated, "(A sample size study with) more complete vitamin A indices, examination of the histological type of lung cancer, a large enough pool of both male and female patients for statistical analysis, and proper adjustment for the effects of age, sex, smoking, and socioeconomic status (are necessary for the viability".

The result findings strongly suggested that long term intake of carrot in moderate amounts may have a substantial implication in prevention and treatment of lung cancer. But Intake of carrot supplement should be taken with care to prevent acute liver toxicity.
