Alternative Therapy: Yoga, in Reduced Risk and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Disorders

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga, as an adjunct intervention may be combined to standard treatment in reduced symptoms and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, some scientists suggested.

Gastrointestinal diseases are the class of diseases of the digestive system including the diseases of  esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best  known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In comparison of the effectiveness of standard medical care (SMC) and mixture of yoga poses, meditation, and relaxation exercises given once a week in group of 69 patients, ages 8 to 18 years, with abdominal pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs), at the end of experiment, yoga participated group demonstrated a significant improvement of all aspects related  to abdominal pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs) of 58% inconpared to only 29% of non yoga group.

Subanalyses over the time period of 12 months, also expressed a significantly greater reduction of pain score by 50% in favor of YT.

In fact, the presence of abdominal pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs may be a stress related disease. As stress elevates hormone production of cortisol levels in activation of the "flight or fight" response which directs blood flow to the nervous system, causing the reduced blood circulation for muscle of the digestive system to perform its function optimally, thus inducing symptoms expression of digestive disorder such as abdominal pain.

According to Dr. E A Mayer in the article of The neurobiology of stress and gastrointestinal disease, "the role of stress in the modulation of the most common gastrointestinal disorders has traditionally been considered a domain of psychology, and has frequently been lumped together with the role of ..... Chronically elevated cortisol levels".

Additionally, stress also was found to associate to reduce function of immune system in fighting against viral bacterial invasion, in induced gastrointestinal infection and inflammation.

Some researchers suggested that chronic stress may induce ulcer as a result of over expression of hormone adrenaline and depressed digestive system.

Yoga exercise has been found to induce a state of calmness in reduced central nervous tension caused by stress events and create a clear mind to tackle the stress in a positive way through relaxation and breathing, particularly, in harmonization of  the mind and body, yoga lead us to the stage existed in the present moment and connected mindful, conscious and connected way in solving stress.

Dr. Korterink JJ, the led author said, "At 1-year follow-up, YT in addition to standard care was superior compared with SMC according to treatment success, PIS, and reduction of school absence".

Interestingly, yoga therapy also showed to improve gastrointestinal disorder in day time behavior problems of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), by reduced levels of inflammation in intestinal tract, irritation bowel syndrome, bloating and other digestion related problems.

Additional analysis also suggested that child attended yoga class also expressed improved Gl problems such as chronic constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody stools, vomiting and flatulence.

In depth differentiation, yoga exercised by children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) exerted a significant improvement in over all aspects.

Dr. Kumar Narasingharao, the led author after taking into account of other confounders, at the conclusion said, "Yoga affects both physiological and psychological level which helps in overall development of ASD children and thus, enhancing the quality of life of children as well as family".

The information findings suggested that yoga may be used as a secondary form of therapy to assist standard intervention in reduced risk and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders

Food therapy: Chickpeas Lectin in reduced Risk and Treatment of Oral cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Ckickpeas lectin may have a profound effect in ameliorated risk and treatment of oral cancer, some scientists suggested.

Garbanzo beans also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to Middle East.

Oral cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the mouth region. At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away from the original site to infect healthy tissues and organs.

Investigation of the process of chickpea lectin in reduced oral cell proliferation and tumor expansion
may involve expression of several aspects and mechanism.

According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, chickpeas reduced the cell proliferation of human oral carcinoma cells at the concentration of 37.5 μg/mL (IC50) and no toxic effect.

Further analysis, chickpeas anti cancer activity probably is a result the pro apoptotic effect induced by  phychemical agent lectin found abundantly in the legume.

Lectin are types of protein with important function of binding to cell membranes and influence cell-cell interaction.

In oral cancer cell line, injection of lectin showed a significant effect in inhibition of the p38α MAP kinase activated under cellular stresses as well as in response to inflammatory cytokines and involved function in the control of many other aspects of the physiology of the cell, such as control of cell cycle or cytoskeleton remodelling,.. for cell survival of the cancer in presence of substrate (ATP).

By blocking the physiological expression of cancer cell, lectin reduced the cell proliferation and subsequently, shrinking the cancer site.

Further more, plytochemical lectin isolated from chickpeas also demonstrated a binding affinity with p38α in regulated the production of certain inflammatory cytokines which may have certain effect in induction of cancer growth.

The kinase p38α MAPK (p38α) plays a pivotal role in many biological processes including to protect cell in responses to inflammation and injury,

Specifically, in the influence of the production of inflammatory cytokines by p38α, lectin regulated the potent pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by cells of the innate immune system IL-1β in induction of tumor growth and metastasis in cells under prolong period of inflammation. According to general belief, many cancers have found to arise from sites of infection, chronic irritation and inflammation.

In tumor necrosis factor alpha TNF-α, application of chemical lectin to oral cancer site suppressed the inflammatory expression of the protein in induced cell survival and proliferation and promoted the pro apoptotic function of TNF-α in program of cell death and cell cycle arrest.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha TNF-α, is cell signal protein with function in induced inflammation in the acute phrase of injure and in numbers of cellular process, including cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, and death.

Importantly, the binding of kinase p38α MAPK also activated the function of IL-6, in inhibited the factors in induced production of inflammatory cytokines which have been found to have a negative impact in oral cell oncogenesis and enhanced the expression of boosting T cell trafficking to to tumor sites to induced cytotoxic effect to cause apoptosis.

IL-6, an interleukin with duo functions in both a pro-inflammatory cytokines and an anti-inflammatory myokines,

Taken together, chickpea lectin may have a therapeutically potential in reduced risk and considered as an adjunct therapy used combination with standard chemo-drugs for treatment of oral cancer

Food Therapy: Chick pea Pulses and Fibers in Reduced Risk of Metabolic Syndrome

Kyle J. Norton

Chickpea may have a profound effect in activated gut microbiota host energy homeostasis in modulated risk of metabolic syndrome, some studies suggested.

Garbanzo bean also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to Middle East.

Metabolic syndrome is a set of conditions, including high blood pressure and blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels which may contribute to the onset of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The effect of chickpea in reduced risk of metabolic syndrome has been investigated extensively through numbers of aspect and mechanism.

α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) isolated from fermentable soluble fibers extracted of chickpea on high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced metabolic syndrome and gut bacterial dysbiosis in animal model, displayed a significant improvement of parameters which have a direct influence to the initiate risk of CVD, including deceased levels of blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, glycated serum protein, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol of mice in compared to control after 4 weeks of experiment.

Injection of α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) showed a restrictive activity in reduced high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced metabolic syndrome in inhibited the content of all bacteria, such as Bacteroides in breaking down food and producing valuable nutrients and energy that the body needs and Lactobacillus with function in glucose metabolism and protect against over growth of pathogens in the digestive tract.

These illustration indicated that α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) have a potential used as a probiotic to improve digestive health by balancing the levels of gut bacteria through colonic fermentation.

Furthermore, the extract also induced the production of short-chain fatty acids such as propionic acid with function in reduced acidity and butyric acids with function in reduced inflammation and improve overall gastrointestinal health through colonic bacterial fermentation.

Short-chain fatty acids has been extensively promoted as prebiotics and probiotics with an aimed at improving colonic and systemic health.

The finding information suggested that α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS) isolated from fermentable soluble fibers extracted of chickpea may affect the metabolic disorders and gut bacterial ecosystem in a positive way.

Additionally, 14 days of 2 single-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials, 88 overweight adults [50% men and 50% women; 18-60 y old; body mass index (in kg/m(2)): 25-28] were supplemented for 14 d with tea contained α-GOSs with different α-GOS dosages (6, 12, or 18 g α-GOSs/d), formulas (12 g α-GOSs/d with >80% of molecules with a degree of polymerization of 2, 3, or 4), or a control substance (glucose syrup), also suggested that regardless to the composition, tea contained α-GOSs treatment group demonstrated a significant in reduced appetite, reduced energy intake during lunch and dinner in compared to control.

In other word, injection of α-GOSs daily and regularly may have a long-term effect in induced weight loss and mitigated metabolic disorders.

Similarly, the investigation of the effects of frequent consumption (five cups/week over 8 weeks) of pulses (yellow peas, chickpeas, navy beans and lentils), in compared with counselling to reduce energy intake by 2093 kJ/d (500 kcal/d), on risk factors of the MetSyn in two groups (nineteen and twenty-one subjects, respectively) of overweight or obese (mean BMI 32·8 kg/m2) adults
2017], also found that at the end of the experiment, both diets expressed a reductions in energy intake, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, glycosylated Hb (HbA1c) and glucose AUC and homeostasis model of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) following a 75 g oral glucose load at weeks 1 and 8 with levels of HDL and C-peptide increased by 4·5 and 12·3 %, respectively in compared to decreased by 0·8 and 7·6 %, respectively, in the energy-restricted group.

C-peptide is a proinsulin molecule produced by the beta cells in the pancreas.

Interestingly, insulin area under curve was found to decrease in both females and males on the energy-restricted diet by 24·2 and 4·8 %, respectively, but on the pulse diet it decreased by 13·9 % in females and increased by 27·3 % in males.

After taking into account of other con founder, Dr.Mollard RC, the lead author said, "frequent consumption of pulses,...reduced risk factors of the metabolic syndrome and these effects were equivalent, and in some instances stronger, than counselling for dietary energy reduction".

Taken together, the information findings, suggested that chick pea with abundant fibers with direct effect in improved gut health and reduced high blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels and promoted weigh loss through decrease appetite may be considered as a function food in ameliorated risk of metabolic syndrome, thus lowering the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

Alternative Therapy, Yoga, an Integrated Form of Physical Exercise in Ameliorated Psychological Health in Women with Stillbirth

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga may be used as integrated form of intervention in improved mental and physical health of  women who lost their babies due to stillbirth, some studies suggested.

Stillbirth is one of the tragic event to the mother characterized by the the death or loss of a baby before or during delivery.

Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the study to evaluate women in ages 19 and 45 experienced stillbirth within one year of the study, through online survey related to 1) pregnancy and family information (i.e., time since stillbirth, weight gain during pregnancy, number of other children) 2) physical activity participation, 3) depressive symptomatology, and 4) demographics, researchers found that over 88% reported of depression with score of >10 on depression scale and 23% stillbirth mothers who participated yoga  practice displayed an improvement of greater than 58% in reduction in depression.

In compared to control, decreased symptoms of depression also were observed in the group engaging to yoga exercise.

The findings indicated that yoga practice may serve as an unique opportunity to help women to cope with the multiple mental sequelae after stillbirth.

Additionally, in the concern of increased risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depressive symptoms in women who experience stillbirth, researchers at the Arizona State University conducted a study to investigate whether yoga as a strategy can help to cope with PTSD symptoms of  women who have experienced the death of their baby. Out of 26 women in each group completed randomly assigned to either > 3 wks of yoga, or < 3 wks of yoga) researchers found that regardless to the periods of participation, 75% of women in both groups expressed that yoga intervention was very enjoyable or enjoyable, and very helpful or helpful to cope with grief.

Truly, yoga breathing exercise induced  deep relaxation and meditation showed to induce a state of consciousness to cope with psychological stress caused by grief and unfortunate of present event by facing the loss with the positive feelings in reduced anger and increased more compassion towards the body and mind. Physically, the mental expression in the right direction in yoga intervention  eventually induced the returning of proper hormone secretion.

Karla Helbert, LPC. Therapist, Certified Yoga instructor, in the article of Yoga for Grief & Loss. recommended yoga asanas and practices for the relief and release of grief opening poses such as mountain pose, sun salutation, yogic eye movements to help to "establish a ritual and energize the body and mind", "counteract feelings of depletion and sadness" and "(encounter) processing thoughts and memories of traumatic grief".

In deed, women in both groups of the study also indicated a higher levels of satisfaction and perceptions

More importantly, participation of 6-week and 12-month follow-up assessments among women with a history of stillbirth (N = 22) also indicated an improvement of negative psychosocial symptoms and reduced levels of perinatal grief in four of the five facets of mindfulness.

Impressively, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is an yoga intervention which has been found to exert a significant effect in increased functional self-insight and quality of life, improved emotional balance and coping with distress, induced decreased state and trait anxiety, depression  total mood disturbance, particularly in restored balance between affective and sensory neural networks.

Dr. Roberts LR, the led author said after taking second look of the results, " Yoga mindfulness was significant mental health needs,......... following stillbirth, (as the program) successfully addressed by a promising MBI with potential scalability and sustainability"

Taking altogether, yoga as a safe and low cost may be considered as an integrated form of physical and mental exercise used conjunction with primary treatment  in reduced psychological symptoms in women after having stillbirth.

Food Therapy: Chickpeas Isoflavones Genistein In Reduced Risk and Treatment of Prostate Cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Chickpeas with abundant isoflavones genistein may have a therapeutic and profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of prostate cancer, some scientists suggested.

Garbanzo bean also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to Middle East.

Prostate cancer is a medical condition characterized by cells growth uncontrollably in the prostate tissues. At the later stage, the cancerous may infect the tissues and organs distance away from the site of origin.

The investigation of the effects of isoflavone genistein isolated from chickpeas in prostate cancer risk was found to associate to various expressions and mechanisms.

Reactive oxygen species ROS was studied intensively for the duo effects in inhibited cancer development and induced cancer cell apoptosis through cytotoxicty.

On one hand, over expression of ROS with low antioxidant levels may cause cellular damage and induce alternation of DNA transcript being transmitted by mRNA through a complex passage to initiate irregular cell growth, the early stage of cancer development.

On the other hand, over expression of ROS can cause cytotoxicity to the target cancer site in induction of cells death and apoptosis.

Isoflavone genistein isolated from chickpeas was found to exert significantly antioxidant effects on human cells, thus ameliorated oxidative damage to cellular DNA in initiation of cancer development.

Injection of isoflavone genistein to normal cell acted as free radical scavengers not only improved the antioxidants status in inhibited the ROS activity in inauguration and progression of multistage carcinogenesis but also reduced the expression of oxidative stress-response related genes.

Interestingly, such injection also enhanced the over expression ROS function in causing toxicity to cancer cells without harming the nearby healthy cells, thus increasing cancer cells degradation, subsequently in cells death.

In fact, isoflavone genistein, best known as natural tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKIs) are a class of chemo-medicine with function in inhibited, or blocked, the enzyme tyrosine kinase in induction of apoptosis in several different types of cancers, including prostate cancer.

Further analysis of the effect of isoflavone genistein adminitration also indicated that the phytochemicals induced cancer cell apoptosis by increased expression of Bax protein in suppressed the production of pro apoptotic activity in the cancerous site.

Additionally, isoflavone genistein also demonstrated a significant effect in stimulated the p21, a potent cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor (CKI) expression in promoted cancer cell cycle arrest.

Application of the phytochemicals also decreased anti apoptotic activities of Bcl-2 and BclXL by blocking the release of mitochondrial contents for enhanced cell division.

More importantly, in the regulation of cellular apoptosis, isoflavone genistein also activated the PARP protein and caspases enzyme with functions to programmed cell death.

Moreover, further evaluation of cancer cell apoptosis due to injection of isoflavone genistein, researchers at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University postulated that in the process in induced cancer cell apoptosis, isoflavone genistein also inhibited NF-κB protein in regulated and controlled transcription of DNA, and cell survival in numbers of cancer, examined by the electrophoresis mobility shift assay (EMSA)

In fact, the expression of NF-κB protein in reduced cancer cell proliferation and site expansion was attributed to the activation of hydrogen peroxide H2O2, with function of cytotoxicity to the tumor and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), a cell signaling protein with function to initiate cellular apoptosis.

Taken together, isoflavones genistein may be effective in reduced risk and treatment of prostate cancer depending to some factors involving having or not having equol converting bacteria in the intestine, specific polymorphic variation in the region of the associated gene.

Food Therapy: Beet, Reduces Risk of Insulin Resistance and Early Onset of Diabetes

Kyle J. Norton

Beet juice containing phytochemicals may alter postprandial glucose and insulin responses in prediabetics, some scientists postulated.

Insulin resistance, a condition of not providing enough insulin to counter the rise of blood glucose is considered as the early progression of onset of diabetes.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall, belonging to the amaranth family,

Investigation of the efficacy of beet in ameliorated risk of insulin resistance may be associated different aspects involved numbers of mechanisms.

In a total of sixteen healthy individuals recruited, with consumed test meals in a controlled single-blind cross-over design, intake of beet juice showed a remarkable in countering the glucose uptake of glucose.

Tested subject reveled a significant lowering of the postprandial insulin response in the early phase and a significantly lower glucose response in the 0–30 min phase in compared to control fed with control beverage matched for macronutrient content (MCON).

Further analysis indicated that beet juice attenuated rise of glucose in the blood stream may be attributed to constituent of betacyanin betalain pigments which have been found to process anti glucose uptake and insulin resistance in patients with diabetes and other metabolic diseases and function of phytochemical polyphenols in stimulated insulin secretion and reduced hepatic glucose output by inhibited α-amylase, α-glucosidase and glucose absorption in the intestine.

α-Amylase is a protein enzyme having a function to convert hydrolysis of starch into sugars.
α-glucosidase is glucosidase in the small intestine with function to break down starch and disaccharides to sugars.

Additionally, in the homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance index, dietary nitrate from beet juice also showed a lower insulin resistance in test subjects in compared to control through regulation of glucose homeostasis and insulin signaling pathway, improvement of insulin resistance and lipid homeostasis, inflammation, and endothelial function.

Dr. Peter C, the lead researcher said, "Betalains, polyphenols and dietary nitrate found in the beetroot juice may each contribute to the observed differences in the postprandial insulin concentration".

Interestingly, in comparison the effect of ingredients of combined 100 ml black tea, beetroot juice or control (water) in 16 obese, insulin-resistant males, beetroot juice plus black tea and beet juice treated groups exhibited a decreased postprandial peripheral vascular resistance (VR) in resistance vessels, but lesser than black tea, in compared to other groups.

According to further examination, the efficacy of beet juice and black tea expressed a significant in attenuated insulin resistance was attributed to increased postprandial blood flow in induced glucose disposal and decreased postprandial insulin response by 29 %..

More profoundly, in standardized breakfasts with or without beet-fibre given, in random order, to non-insulin-dependent diabetics study, beet fiber intake individuals expressed a strong effect in rate of glucose decrease after the meal.with blood glucose levels monitored continuously and hormonal responses determined at regular intervals for 3 hr.

Both tested subjects did not exert notable differences with regard to the plasma levels of insulin, C-peptide or glucagon in regulated levels of blood glucose,

C-peptide is a substance involved proinsulin molecule produced by the beta cells in the pancreas.

According to the study, the over expression of levels of somatostatin, a growth hormone–inhibiting hormone induced by beet-fibre intake.may contribute to a potential effect in diminished glycemic response through reduced glucose absorption and a delayed gastrointestinal transit time.

The collective findings may provide a footage of using beet juice as a functional food in ameliorated risk of insulin resistance and prevented early onset of diabetes.

Food Therapy: Beet, The Best anti inflammatory functional Food

Kyle J. Norton

Intake of beet juice may have a reduced effect of inflammation through suppressing production of pro inflammatory cytokines produced by immunity.

Inflammation is the reaction of immune system in protected our body against foreign invasion cause of infection or tissues damage.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall, belonging to the amaranth family,

Intake of raw beet juice (RBJ) and cooked beet (CB) on BP of hypertensive subjects, showed a significant improvement of inflammation through regulating the cell signal protein in initiation of systemic inflammation involved in acute phase of inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and reducing high-sensitivity level of C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) which have a major effect in the onset of cardiovascular risk in both tested groups.

Although the reduced blood pressure is not sustainable in tested subjects after creasing intake of raw beet juice (RBJ) and cooked beet (CB), the improvement of endothelial function as a result of the presence of nitric oxide and systemic inflammation during the test are remarkable.

Endothelial dysfunction is a major risk factor of cardiovascular disease and precedes the development of atherosclerosis.

In muscle damage following a marathon of 30 recreationally active males, using a double blind, independent group design with doses of beetroot juice (H-BT; 250 ml), a lower dose of beetroot juice (L-BT; 125 ml), or an isocaloric placebo (PLA; 250 ml) immediately (×3 servings), oral administered beet juice groups, showed a faster recovery of muscle damage at 48 hours in compared control.

Further analysis, application of beetroot juice in any dose enhanced over expression of antioxidants induced recover of muscle damage not only was attributed to the juice function in reduced high-sensitivity level of C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) but also increased modulation of enzyme creatine kinase (CK) responsible in expression by various tissues and cell types during muscle damage.

The antioxidant effects of beet juice also displayed a significant activity in reduced gene interleukin-6 (IL-6) secreted by T cells and macrophages in production of pro inflammatory cytokine to induce the acute phase of inflammation caused by muscle damage and exhibited anti inflammatory mytokines in fighting against infection.

Additionally, administration of beetroot juice inhibited the release of neutrophils and regulated gene interleukin-8 (IL-8), a chemoattractant cytokine produced by a variety of tissue and blood cells in expression of inflammation in the site of damage.

Neutrophils is a type of immune cells released to site of infection by immunity. Over expression of  neutrophils normally are an indication of acute infection.

Taking altogether, beet juice and products may have a remarkable effect in reduced risk of over inflammatory expression of immune system when come to muscle damage and infection caused by microorganisms.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga, The best in Ameliorated Prenatal Chronic Poor Sleep In Risk of Pregnancy Outcomes

Kyle J. Norton

Some pregnant women may experience sleep disturbance. Yoga as integrated form of intervention may have a profound effect in treatment of this syndrome through expression in reduction of related potential pathophysiological mechanisms, some scientists studies suggested.

Yoga, the ancient practical technique for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a study to review the clinical evidence of the association between conditions of sleep loss during pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcomes researchers at the joint study led by the University of Pisa, through papers published between January 1, 1960 and July 2013, suggested that chronic sleep loss frequently throughout the course of pregnancy may contribute to adverse pregnancy outcomes.
and chronic sleep loss during pregnancy as a result of stress and a physiological stressor per se, may also lead to stress 'overload' which has a negative in influence in pregnancy outcome.

Yoga exercise involved stretching, meditation and relaxing of muscles expressed a significant improvement of psychological arouses such as calmness, relaxation, reduced stress and promoted
physical and mental exertion may lead to less sleep latency, less sleep disturbances, and better sleep pattern.
Additionally, Yoga breathing exercises has shown to improve oxygen saturation through enhancing the strength of the lung muscles, thus increasing blood circulation which can be a positive factor in reduced sleep disorders like sleep apnea.

Further analysis, increased blood flow to the brain may improve brain cells in transfer and receive information properly, thus reducing risk of psychological tension which may have a negative influence the sleep efficiency.

Habitual snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and insomnia were 3 common syndromes in pregnancy of breathing-related sleep disorders.

The investigation of whether sleep quality during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy have any effect to obstetric-neonatal outcomes, postulated that the incidence of poor sleep quality was found in 58% for second-trimester participants and 66% for third-trimester participants and women who experience third-trimester poor sleepers were more likely to have had a vacuum-assisted delivery.

Pregnancy influences to hormone change and increased trips to bathroom at night caused by early pregnancy systems may have a profound impact to induce poor sleep in first trimester.

Also, in third trimester, pregnant women may experience fewer periods of deep sleep and wake up more often during the night due to more trips to the bath as result of the growing baby putting pressure on the bladder. Reduced intake of fluid few hours before bed time may be helpful. Some women may also experience heartburn, leg cramps, restless leg syndrome, and snoring which may cause them awake during night sleep.

Indeed, snoring increases the chances of sleep disturbances by two fold was reported in some studies.

And snoring may be another indication of poor sleep pattern, yoga breathing improved the sleep efficiency by enhancing muscles of the throat, lung and strengthen the muscles of air flow passage reducing risk of obstructed nasal airways.

According to the University of Colorado Denver, sleep disorders are common in pregnancy and have maternal and fetal consequences if left untreated. Yoga breathing exercises might have beneficial effect by strengthening upper airway muscles resulting in less sleep disturbances observed in this population

Additionally, sleep disorders also were associated to adverse pregnancy outcomes including preeclampsia, elevated serum glucose, depression, prolonged labor, and cesarean birth.

After taking into account of other risk factors, Dr. Nodine PM, the led author said, " sleep disorders of pregnancy, elucidates their relationship with maternal and neonatal outcomes, and presents current evidence regarding diagnostic and management strategies".

Yoga is a well-tolerated and safe mode of exercise with promising in improving sleep disturbance and reduced day and night time symptoms of sleep disorders during pregnancy including excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, and waking up too early.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that chronic poor sleep during pregnancy may induce a negative outcome in both mother and newborn.

Food Therapy: Chickpeas Isoflavones In Ameliorated Risk and Treatment of Breast cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found an ingredient from Chickpeas with substantial and potential impact in breast cancer risk, some studies suggested.

Isoflavones are phytoestrogens derived  from plant with magnificent estrogenic properties.
Garbanzo beans also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to Middle East.

The investigation of  the effects of isoflavones extracted from chickpeas in ameliorated risk and treatment of breast cancer was found to associate to numbers of aspects and mechanisms.

In deed, injection of isoflavones isolated from seeds and sprouts of chickpeas displayed a significant effect in inhibition of human breast cancer cell lines SKBr3 and Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF-7) at dose of ICS  at 10-60 µg/mL.

According to the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assays, the phytochemicals significantly restrained the proliferation of both cell lines in a time-dependent and dose-dependent fashion.

Additionally observation based on results from Wright-Giemsa staining as well as annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate and propidium iodide (Annexin V/PI) staining, the inhibition of the phytoestrogen administration also can be seed through increased cytoclasis and physical body of cells death.
Cytoclasis is the presence of destruction of cells by fragmentation

Quantitative Annexin V/PI assays further showed that increased dose of isoflavones application resulted in increased number of apoptotic cells.

In fact, the effect of ICS in promoted apoptosis of both cancer cell lines may also be a result of activation of the expression of gene Bcl-2-associated X protein in induced cell death and decreased gene Bcl-2-in expression of anti apoptotic activity, observed by the semiquantitative reverse transcription PCR.

Bcl-2 family protein is a modulator responsible for regulation of cell apoptosis.

Further Western blot analysis also found that ICS injection also expressed a significantly restricted proliferation of cancer cell lines SKBr3 and MCF-7 through the increased expression of caspase 7, caspase 9 in regulated cell apoptosis and  tumor suppressors P53, and mediator of cell cycle arrest  P21 in a dose-dependent manner.

Interestingly, in flow cytometry assays using the fluorescent probe 3,3'-dihexyloxacarbocyanine iodide showed a dose-dependent in decreased mitochondrial membrane potential following ICS treatment.

Treatment using ICS also increased reactive oxygen species production that can be deadly to cancer cell  through elevating toxicity without harming nearby healthy cells.

Deceased mitochondrial membrane potential may deplete cell energy which plays an important role for cancer cells survival and proliferation.

Truly, the effect of isoflavones in target breast cancer would vary from being antiestrogenic to weakly estrogenic depending to the high or low endogenous estrogen levels in patients.

Further more, in compared to the soybean-derived protease inhibitor Bowman-Birk inhibitor (BBI), is currently showing great promise as a novel cancer chemopreventive agent and 7 protease inhibitor concentrates (PIC) isolated from various leguminous sources (including soybean)to evaluate the effects of PIC on the proliferation of breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231, application of chickpea PIC demonstrated a significantly inhibited viability of the cancer cell line at concentration doses of 25-400 μg/ml.

Protease inhibitors are class of anti viral medicine with function binding to viral proteases to prevent replication.

Finally, although epidemiological studies suggest that isoflavones can decrease breast cancer risk and increase survival of breast cancer patients but the University of Houston has raised several questions of the results by stating, "the effects of isoflavones on mammary gland stem cells during different periods of life need to be defined to identify windows of time in which isoflavones can have positive or negative effects on cancer prevention. Investigations of the effect of isoflavones on breast cancer stem cells would increase our knowledge of whether isoflavones are beneficial or not to cancer patients. Lastly, the possibility that isoflavones have different effects on breast cancer risks between different ethnic groups with different genetic backgrounds needs to be taken into account".

Taken together, chickpeas phytochemical may have a potential effect in reduced risk and treatment of breast cancer, but a complex and large sample size with different ethnic groups with different genetic backgrounds study are necessary to reaffirm this viability.

Food Therapy: Beet Juice May be Potent Function Foods For Reduced Risk and Treatment of Pharynx Cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Beet may be a potential functional food for reduced risk and treatment of pharynx cancer, a recent study suggested

Pharynx cancer in a medical condition of abnormal cell growth in the pharynx region, including neopharynx, hypopharynx, pharyngeal areas. In the late stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissues.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall, belonging to the amaranth family.

According to the joint study lead by the Vels University, phyto-synthetic method of producing silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) may be used as mediator of beet root in enhanced treatment of patients with pharynx cancer.

In pharynx cancer cell line, the silver nanoparticles enhanced by beet root effect through induction of  cytotoxicity to cause cells death, without harming the nearby healthy cells.

Silver nanoparticles used to enhanced the function of biological treatment alone or combined with other pharmaceutical substances.

Measured by MTT assay, the inhibition efficacy may depend to the higher concentration proportionally of the photosynthetic substance.

AO/EtBr staining observations also found that Ag-NPs exhibited mechanism of cell death probably through the depolarization of mitochondrial membrane potential caused by depletion of energy in induced cells proliferation, subsequently, in cell apoptosis.

In fact, according to the World Cancer Research Foundation reports, strong evidence suggested that vegetables with high nitrate-containing such as beet may have potential therapeutic effect in reduced risk and treatment of various cancers, including cancer of pharynx.

Unfortunately, beet juice with high amount of nitrate may associate to gastric cancer risk according to the review of literature of a total of 22 articles consisting of 49 studies—19 studies for nitrates, 19 studies for nitrites, and 11 studies for N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).

Further analysis, discovered that high nitrates intake was associated with a weak but statistically significant reduced risk of gastric cancer, and increased consumption of nitrites and N-nitrosodimethylamine, NDMA  may elevate the risk factors for gastric cancer.

But after taking account to other con founders, the risk of gastric cancer is not attributed by intake of  nitrate but nitrate beverage with N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) contamination.

Taken together, beet and beet juice with high concentration of nitrate may be uses as functional food to ameliorated risk and treatment of pharynx cancer, but people with stomach ailment should avoid drinking any nitrate beverage with N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) contamination.

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea Polyphenols in Attenuated Risk and Treatment of Bladder Cancer

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea may have a therapeutic and sustainable effect in reduced risk and treatment of bladder cancer, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Bladder cancer is medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the issues of bladder. At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.

According to statistic provided by cancer.net, 90% of people with bladder cancer are older than 55, and the average age of people diagnosed with bladder cancer is 73

In the review of medical literature published online, green tea major catechin EGCG in reduced risk and treatment may be attributed to numbers of mechanisms.

In T24 human bladder cancer cell line, application of the chemopreventive/antiproliferative potential of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG, the major phytochemical in green tea) induced anti malignant cell proliferation by modulating the expression of phosphatidylinositol 3' kinase/Akt in activated Bcl-2 family proteins with function in regulation of cell death, thus enhancing apoptosis of T24 bladder cancer cell line in dose- and time-dependent manner.

The phosphatidylinositol 3'-kinase/AKT pathway is a crucial regulator of cellular processes including cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Bcl-2 family proteins is a modulator responsible for regulation of cell apoptosis.

In C3H/HeN mice subcutaneously implanted with MBT-2 murine bladder tumor cells, administration of EGCGs physically attached onto the surface of nanogold particles pNG(EGCG-adsorbed pNG) exerted a significant anti cancer proliferation through induction of apoptosis.

This action of anti cancer effect was attributed to mechanism of EGCG-pNG in activation of caspases which plays an important role in induced cell apoptosis and inflammation through Bcl-family proteins with function in control apoptosis by activating caspase proteases in the governing the space between outer and inner mitochondrial membrane.

Under stress, the mitochondrial pathway or the intrinsic pathway is activated depending to the release of proteins from the intermembrane space of mitochondria.

Caspase cascade, a family protease enzymes with function in programmed cell death and inflammation.

Additionally, injecting EGCG-pNG directly into the tumor site inhibited tumor expansion through ameliorated the function of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in stimulated formation of new blood vessel in provided nutrients and oxygen for survival of cancer site in compared to
oral administration of EGCG in stimulated immune function in suppression of cancer progression.

Vascular endothelial growth factor, is a signal protein produced by cells in stimulated formation of blood vessel for cell division and site proliferation.

Based on information collected,, the prepared EGCG-pNG was more effective than free EGCG in inhibiting bladder tumor in model mice.

More interestingly, bladder tumor induced by N-butyl-(-4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosaminre (BBN) 0.05% solution on 8 week-old female C3H/He mice for 14 or 24 weeks on treatment with or without green tea polyphenols (GTP) expressed a significant lower rate of tumor invasive frequency of 23.8%; in group treated with both GTP and BBN in compared to 65.2% in group treated with BBN alone.

The tumorvolume and microvascular density (MVD) as an independent predictor within a tumor.and  the connective, functionally supportive framework of a biological cell, tissue, or organ region in the BBN+GTP group were also significantly lower than in BBN treated mice.

Unbelievably, green tea polyphenols inhibited tumor growth and invasion in mice with established bladder cancer through regulation of angiogenetic effect in suppressed the forming of new blood vessel for the tumor cells proliferation, metastatic spread, as well as providing oxygen and nutrients and removal of waste products of cancer cells without exhibiting anti-carcinogenic effect.

Taken together, green tea extract polyphenols may be considered as adjunct therapy for reduced risk and used combination with standard medicine for treatment of bladder cancer.

Dietary Nitrate-Rich Beetroot Juice Improved Vascular Function In Reduced Risk of Heart Disease

Kyle J. Norton

Intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice may have a substantial and profound effect in improved vascular function, thus reducing risk of heart disease.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall, belonging to the amaranth family.

Vascular function are bundle vascular system with function in blood circulation.
Abnormal vascular function is considered as one of the risk factor in development of cardiovascular disease.
In a total of 69 subjects recruited in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel study to examine the change in vascular function induced by intake of Nitrate-Rich Beetroot Juice, determined with the use of ultrasound flow-mediated dilatation (FMD).

The flow-mediated dilation (FMD).test, an ultrasound technique performed only by a skilled sonographer is a noninvasive assessment of vascular endothelial function through experts understanding of the physiology, analysis, and interpretation of this measurement

Intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice displayed a significant increase in the FMD response of 1.1% in compared to placebo group of decrease of 0.3%

Nitrate-rich beetroot juice group also demonstrated a small improvement of stiffness measured by Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity and showed a trend of continuous improvement in compared to placebo.

Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity is a test to measure stiffness of the largest artery in the body, Increased stiffness will result in reduced mobility in related regions.

Result of aortic pulse wave velocity measurement is said to have an ability to identify people in their 20’s who are at increased risk for development of heart disease, stroke and dementia.

Administration of nitrate-rich beetroot juice showed a strong reduction of 7.6% of platelet-monocyte aggregates in compared to increase of 10.1% in placebo. This finding indicated that nitrate-rich beetroot juice intake had a substantial effect in decreased risk of acute myocardial infarction.

Platelet–monocyte aggregates is a novel index with platelet activation and a maker of early onset of acute myocardial infarction.

Furthermore, intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice group expressed an exceptional improvement of vascular function in reduced P-selectin expression in activated platelet aggression

P-selectin is a cell adhesion molecule (CAM) with function in mediated the interaction of activated endothelial cells or platelets.

Additionally, application of the juice also improved the nonpathogenic, commensal bacteria present in the healthy human salivary glands measured by salivary microbiome in compared to placebo group.

Interestingly, intake of the nitrate-rich beetroot juice also responded to change of 78 bacterial taxa out of thousands harbored in human gut.

The proportions of Rothia mucilaginosa trending to increase in nitrate-rich beetroot juice group, in compared to Neisseria flavescens (P < 0.01) increased in the placebo group.

Rothia mucilaginosa, is considered part of the normal microflora of the human mouth and the upper respiratory tract.

Neisseria flavescens is an uncommon pathogen of human infection, pneumonia and empyema

There were no adverse effects of dietary nitrate were detected through out the experiment.

The findings evidences suggested that intake of nitrate-rich beetroot juice daily may have a sustainable effect in improve vascular function, thus reducing risk of heart disease.

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) In Reduced Risk and Treatment of Esophageal Cancer

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of esophageal cancer, some scientists suggested.

Esophageal cancer is medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of esophagus. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.
According to statistic, 2,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2017.

In the review of literature published online, green tea efficacy in treatment of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was expressed in number of mechanisms.

In esophageal cancer cell lines Eca109 and Ec9706, injection of green tea EGCG plus chemodrug adriamycin (ADM) after 24 hours displayed a significantly increased cellular apoptosis.

According to flow cytometry assay, the application induced the elevation of ROS and ADM concentration in production of toxicity to counter the reaction of tumor cell in diminished expression of mitochondrial membrane potential and ABCG2 protein to induced apoptosis.without harming to healthy cells.

ABCG2 protein expression plays a major role in multi-drug resistance, produced by tumor cells to accounter reaction to chemo-medicine.
Mitochondrial membrane potential is a central intermediate in oxidative energy metabolism, the deceased levels caused by toxicity ROS may result in energy deletion and subsequently, causing cells death.

Further observation also indicated that EGCG inhibited the growth of Eca109 and Ec9706 cells through ameliorated the anti apoptotic bcl-2 protein expression and promoted bax and caspase-3 protein expressions with functions in induced apoptosis in a dose- and time- dependent manner.

BCL2 family members form hetero- or homodimers and plays an important anti-apoptotic protein.

Caspase-3 protein.plays a central role in the execution-phase of cell apoptosis.

BAX gene. BAX is a member of the Bcl-2 gene family. plays an important role in mediation of cell death by apoptosis.

Compared to ADM treatment alone, the Eca109/ABCG2 multi-drug resistance cancer cells, rate of apoptosis and ADM concentration were significant higher anid levels of mitochondrial membrane potential and ABCG2 expression were lower.

In other word, injection of green tea plus ADM was more effective in induced cells death in Eca109/ABCG2 multi-drug resistance cancer cells with expression ROS and ADM in enhanced elevation cytotoxity activity in compared to ADM treatment alone.

After taking into account of others confounders, Dr, Liu L the lead author said, " EGCG inhibited cell growth and induced esophageal cancer cell apoptosis. It reduced the bcl-2 protein expression and increased the bax and caspase-3 protein expression. EGCG reversed multi-drug resistance by reducing ABCG2 expression and increasing the anticancer drug concentration in cancer cells".

In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) without ADM measured by flow cytometry assay, after 24 hours also inhibited cancer site proliferation by increased expression of ROS to attenuate mitochondrial membrane potential function in energy metabolism and caspase-3 protein to cause malignant cellular apoptosis, in a dose-and time-dependent manner.

In the examine the PCR-TRAP argentation analysis during the experiment, EGCG was also demonstrated to inhibit the viability of Eca109 and Ec9706 cells by suppressing cancer cell in alternated DNA transcript through telomerase activity.

More interestingly, the continuation of study of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on the human esophageal cancer cell line ECa109 also discover that EGCG demonstrated a decrease of cancer cell viability but a substantial rate of apoptosis by increased expression of p16 gene demethylation in induced cancer cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, level p16 mRNA expression in suppressed tumor progression of invasive and aggressive behavior.and p16 protein expression in promoted tumor suppressible activity, in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

P16 gene demethylation plays an important role in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. gene alternation was found in several types of cancer.

Low level of  p16 mRNA expression is associated to progression of  cancer with malignant and aggressive behavior.

Abnormalities of p16 gene and loss of p16 protein expression may be related to the pathogenesis and development of some cancers.

Taken together, green tea with abundance of phytochemical Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as an adjunct therapy to combine with standard chemo-medicine in reduced risk and treatment of esophageal cancer.
