Phytochemical Alliin Inhibits Parameters Involved in the Onset of Metabolic Syndrome

By Kyle J. Norton

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions including obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, hypertriglycemia, hyperlipidemia associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

In other words, if you have 3 of conditions of obesity, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, elevated blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol, you are at the increased risk of CVD and diabetes.

Epidemiological studies suggested people who are overweight and obesity and physical inactivity and have a condition of insulin resistance are most likely to have metabolic syndrome developing.

In the unpreventable risk factors such as aging, ethnicity, and a dietary carbohydrate, with a lower intake of crude fiber are also found in the people with the condition.

According to the statistics, among US adults aged 18 years or older, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome rose by more than 35%. From 1988–1994 to 2007–2012, the condition increased from 25.3% to 34.2%.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of metabolic syndrome, some researchers suggested the promotion of the Western diet over the past few decades may be the major culprit in inducing the rise of the metabolic syndrome, globally.

Dr. Mohammad G. Saklayen in the investigation of the global epidemic of the metabolic syndrome said, "Though it started in the Western world, with the spread of the Western lifestyle across the globe, it has become now a truly global problem. The prevalence of the metabolic syndrome is often more in the urban population of some developing countries than in its Western counterparts.

And, " The two basic forces spreading this malady are the increase in consumption of high calorie-low fiber fast food and the decrease in physical activity due to mechanized transportations and sedentary form of leisure time activities".

The results strongly suggested if you are the Western diet follower, your risk of metabolic syndrome increase many folds compared to those of traditional diet.

Alliin (S-allyl-L-cysteine-S-oxide) is a phytochemical compound sulfoxide,. a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, belonging to the class of sulfur compounds, found abundantly in fresh garlic and onion.

On finding a natural ingredient with anti-metabolic syndrome activity, researchers examined the synthetic form of S-ally-mercapto captopril (CPSSA), a new stable synthetic compound produced by composition of allicin and captopril.

On fructose-induced metabolic syndrome rat model, alliin at 8 mg/kg-day exerted a significant effect by inhibiting the expression of metabolic parameters such as insulin, triglycerides, and homocysteine concentrations with a lesser effect of SBP

Compared to alliin, Captopril (50mg/(kg day)) only improved blood pressure and homocysteine.

Compared to a low dose of CPSSA (5mg/(kg day)) that lowered SBP but did not improve any other measured parameter, a higher dose (50mg/(kg day)) showed a significantly decreased blood pressure, triglycerides, and homocysteine concentrations.

The results strongly suggested that CPSSA, the combination of alliin and captopril may be used for the reducing risk of metabolic syndrome.

In the examination of treatment strategies for MetS include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options, associated with the use of nutraceuticals, most of which have plant origins (phytochemicals), accompanied by lifestyle improvement, researchers found that alliin from garlic with an adequate dose should improve a number of the MetS components.

Taken altogether, alliin used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered supplements for prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome,  pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of alliin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Healthy Food Cranberry, the Natural Anti-Inflammatory Remedy

By Kyle J. Norton

Inflammation is a process of the immune system that responds to harmful pathogens.

Inflammation can be acute or chronic. In the acute phase of infection, the immune system after receiving information from the neurons, macrophages, the largest white blood cells in the first line of defense stimulate the production of blood palette to cover the wound and the production of inflammatory cytokines to kill off micro-organisms, leading to symptoms of fever, redness, and swelling.

However, in some cases, overproduction of proinflammatory cytokines may damage nearby healthy cells and tissues, causing the formation of scars.

In severe cases, a protein with duo functions in the production of pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines which produce anti-inflammatory cytokines under normal condition also switch to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Most cases of acute inflammatory are resolved within a few days without causing damage to the wound tissues.  However, if the immune first line of defense can not completely destroy the invaders within a period of 3 to 8 weeks, it will compromise, leading to low-grade chronic inflammation.

Diseases associated with low-grade chronic inflammation include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Dr. Duprez DA, the lead scientist at the University of Minnesota.in the investigation of inflammatory makers and chronic inflammation wrote, "Numerous studies have shown that high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), one of the most frequently studied inflammatory markers, is associated with chronic inflammatory-related disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer and mortality [1]. While hs-CRP is a single marker of inflammation".

In other words, if you have a chronic inflammatory disease, your levels of hsCRP are much high comapred to people who do not.

Conventionally, treatment of acute phase inflammation is to manage inflammation and prevent the risk of long-term damage, including anti-inflammatory nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which can be bought without a prescription.

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of diseases associated with inflammation, researchers examined the effect of the effects of freeze-dried cranberry powder on anti-inflammation and lipid profiles.

The study included a total of 40 Sprague-Dawley male rats (6-weeks-old) were equally divided into the following five groups: 1) normal diet group + saline (NC); 2) atherogenic diet + saline (HFC); 3) atherogenic diet + LPS (HL); 4) atherogenic diet with 5% cranberry power + LPS (C5); 5) atherogenic diet with 10% cranberry power + LPS (C10).

Based on the analysis after LPS (0.5 mg/kg) was injected into the abdominal cavities of rats 18 hours prior to sacrifice, researchers found that
* C5 rats treated by atherogenic diet with 5% cranberry power + LPS showed a mean serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol level in C5 rats was significantly higher compared to those in NC and HL rats.

* The mean serum levels of CRP and IL-1β associated with pro-inflammatory marker and expression were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the cranberry powder groups compared to HL rats.

* Furthermore, levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines expressed by the serum IL-10 and NO showed 29% and 88% higher mean values in the C5 group and 49% and 24% higher in the C10 group than those in the HL group, respectively.

In other words, cranberry powder protects the Sprague-Dawley male rats induced inflammation by elevating the levels of anti-inflammatory and lowering the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Collectively, researchers wrote, " freeze-dried cranberry powder may have beneficial effects on cardiovascular diseases by modifying serum lipids and the early inflammatory response."

Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered an anti-inflammatory remedy, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Red Cabbage Protects the Skin Against Contact Dermatitis

By Kyle J. Norton

Contact dermatitis is a skin condition with symptoms of a red, itchy rash caused by direct contact with a substance or an immune overreaction against contact allergens.

The skin is the largest organ of the body containing 3 layers including the epidermis, the dermis, and the hypodermis. The skin also is the third detoxed organ combined with the liver and kidney to cleanse the body toxins.

Many chemicals and nonchemicals substances have been found to induce such abnormal reactions, including cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry, and plants.

Most cases of contact dermatitis are nonlife-threatening, however, the condition can induce certain discomforts, particularly in people with an allergic reaction and medical conditions.

The skin condition caused by an allergic reaction can be healed within a week or 2. Contact dermatitis can be preventable if the cause is identified.

Most common symptoms of contact dermatitis red, itchy rash on the skin.  Some people may also experience more serious symptoms including crusting swelling, burning or tenderness skin.

Some researchers suggested, contact dermatitis may be associated with the inflammatory skin condition caused by the production of pro-inflammatory and toxic factors that activated the skin innate immunity, such as irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.

Dr. Freudenberg MA, the lead scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute for Immunobiology, wrote, "Although DC and effector T cells play a protagonistic role in the sensitization and elicitation phase of ACD, respectively, other cell types including keratinocytes, NK cells, mast cells, and B cells contribute to the pathogenesis of the disease"

And, ": In this review, the authors summarize recent findings that identify stress responses and innate immune pathways triggered by contact allergens and review recent data regarding the adaptive T cell response".

Cabbage is a species of Brassica oleracea belongings to the family Brassicaceae (or Cruciferae), native to the Mediterranean region along the seacoast. The veggie has a short stem of which is crowded a mass of leaves, usually green but in some varieties, it may be red or purplish.
With an aim to find a potential compound for the promotion of skin health, researchers investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of methanol extract of B. oleracea var. capitata L. (MEBO) in mice with contact dermatitis (CD) including ear swelling, erythema, and histopathological changes.
According to the results obtained from the tested analysis, topical treatment with MEBO showed significant inhibition of ear swelling and erythema.

Furthermore, MEBO also significantly inhibited epidermal hyperplasia associated with overdevelopment of a number of cells in the epidermis and immune cells infiltration in the induction of inflammation.

Compared to control, the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interferon-gamma, interleukin-6, and monocyte chemotactic protein-1  in MEBO treated mice significantly lower also compared to those in controls.

However, there are no body weight gain or spleen body weight ratio in the treatment group.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "These results indicate that cabbage can be used for the treatment of skin inflammation and that its anti-inflammatory activity is closely related to the inhibition of Th1 skewing reactions (associated with pathogenicity or protection from disease)".

Taken altogether, red cabbage may be considered a functional food for the treatment of contact dermatitis, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Turmeric, the Potential Anti Hypertension Herbal Remedy

By Kyle J. Norton

High blood pressure or hypertension is a condition of abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

High blood pressure is also a condition in the cluster of metabolic syndrome associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and diabetes.

Depending to the levels of blood pressure, most atients with high blood pressure are asymptomatic, However, long-term very high blood pressure has been found to induce dizziness and light head, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, flushing, chest pain, and visual changes.

Some medical conditions such as kidney disease and long term stress are associated with high blood pressure.

According to the American hypertension Association, long-term untreated high blood pressure can induce complications that reduce or obstruct the function of the heart and blood vessel, leading to heart attack, stroke and heart failure.

Conventional hypertensive medications have undoubtedly prevented many deaths from heart disease in the past 30 years, but they have many side effects.

If you current taking hypertensive medicine, please make sure you know all the side effects for the preventive measure.

Some researchers also found that excessive energy intake and obesity are major causes of hypertension.

Dr. Savica V, the lead author in the study "The effect of nutrition on blood pressure" wrote, "Obesity is associated with increased activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone and sympathetic nervous systems, possibly other mineralocorticoid activity, insulin resistance, salt-sensitive hypertension, and excess salt intake, and reduced kidney function. High sodium chloride intake strongly predisposes to hypertension".

And, "Increased alcohol consumption may acutely elevate blood pressure. High intakes of potassium, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and protein, along with exercise and possibly vitamin D, may reduce blood pressure".

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belongings to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

On findings a potential compound for the treatment of high blood pressure, researchers examined the effects of ginger (Zingiber officinale) and turmeric (Curcuma longa) on a hypertensive animal model.

Selected rats induced hypertension by oral administration of Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride, 40 mg/kg body weight to the study were divided into seven groups (n = 10).
* The groups 1-3 included normotensive control rats, hypertensive (Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride) rats, and hypertensive control rats treated with atenolol (an antihypertensive drug).

* Groups 4 and 5 included normotensive and hypertensive (Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride) rats treated with 4 % supplementation of turmeric, respectively.

* Groups 6 and 7 included normotensive and hypertensive rats treated with 4 % supplementation of ginger, respectively.

During the experiment, researchers found that Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride hypertensive rats showed a significant increase in ATP and ADP hydrolysis, adenosine deaminase involved in purine metabolism and acetylcholinesterase involved in the regulation of blood vessel tone compared to the control rats.

In other words, the injection of Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride causes the increase of enzymes associated with the constriction of blood vessel tone, blocking the blood vessel dilatation and blood flow through the coronary blood vessels.

Furthermore, Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride rats also demonstrated an elevated production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 and - 6, interferon-γ, and tumor necrosis factor-α) and reduced levels of an anti-inflammatory cytokine such as interleukin-10, a leading cause of the increase of arterial stiffness and risk of CVD.

Moreover, increased butyrylcholinesterase activity associated with chronic inflammation was also found in the Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride rats.

However, all parameters caused by the injection of Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride involved in the onset of hypertension were totally inhibited by the application of ginger (Zingiber officinale) and turmeric (Curcuma longa).

Based on the findings, researchers said, "these activities could suggest a possible insight about the protective mechanisms of the rhizomes against hypertension-related inflammation."

Taken altogether, turmeric used alone or combination with ginger may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Whole Food Onion's Quercetin inhibits the Effect of Hypertension Against the Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Overweight and Obese Individuals

By Kyle J. Norton

Hypertension is a condition of abnormally high blood pressure in the bloodstream. Hypertension a member of the cluster conditions of metabolic syndrome associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

According to the statistics provided by the American Heart Association, approximately, 103 million U.S. adults have high blood pressure, or 1 in 2 adults in the US have the syndrome.

Obesity is a medical and chronic condition caused by long-term excessive body fat accumulated. Overweight is a condition of excess body weight relative to height.

According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), people who have a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight and a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity.

The formula of the BMI indexBMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)

According to the statistic, 68% of the American population is either overweight or obese. However,
in 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight, inclduing over 650 million were obese worldwide.

Bad eating habit, unhealthy lifestyle and certain medical conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea not only induce overweight and obesity but also increase the risk of high blood pressure.

Dr. Shu-Zhong Jiang, the lead scientist wrote, "The imbalance between energy intake and expenditure is the main cause of excessive overweight and obesity. Technically, obesity is defined as the abnormal accumulation of ≥20% of body fat, over the individual's ideal body weight".

And, "Excessive overweight remains among the most neglected public health issues worldwide, while obesity is associated with increased risks of disability, illness, and death. Cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of mortality worldwide, particularly hypertension and diabetes, are the main illnesses associated with obesity".

The results strongly suggested that obesity not only is associated with hypertension but also is the major contributor to the risk of other chronic diseases.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

On finding a potential compound for the inhibition of hypertension, researchers examined the effects of polyphenol quercetin in pre-hypertension and stage I hypertension in overweight and obesity individuals.

The double-blinded, placebo-controlled cross-over trial included 70 Subjects randomized to receive 162 mg/d quercetin from onion skin extract powder or placebo for 6-weeks separated by a 6-week washout period.

According to tested assays and compared to the baseline,
* Group treated with quercetin did not significantly show the effect on 24 h ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) parameters and office BP in the hypertensives subgroup.

* However, quercetin decreased 24 h systolic BP by -3·6 mmHg (P=0·022) compared to placebo.

* Furthermore, quercetin treatment significantly decreased day-time and night-time systolic BP in hypertensives without alternating vasoactive biomarkers such as endothelial function, parameters of oxidation, inflammation, lipid, and glucose metabolism in the total and hypertensive subgroup.

Based on the findings, researchers said, " supplementation with 162 mg/d quercetin from onion skin extract lowers ABP in patients with hypertension, suggesting a cardioprotective effect of quercetin".

In other words, supplementation with 162 mg/d quercetin from onion skin extract protects the heart against CVD by normalizing the blood pressure in hypertensive patients through unknown mechanisms.

Taken altogether, onion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of liver alcoholic cytotoxicity pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Carotenoids Block the Onset of Colorectal Cancer in Patients with DICER1 rs3742330 Genotypeancer

By Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a class of disease associated with irregular cell growth in the tissue of organs.

The colon-rectum formed a part of the digestive system is involved in the absorption of water from the small bowel contents and broken down of certain materials in the feces into substances of which some of them to be reabsorbed and reused by the body.

Colorectal cancer is cancer located in the colon or rectum caused alternation of cell DNA. Most cases of colorectal cancer begin in the cells on the surface of inner ling tissue in either the colon or rectum, before multiplying to form a tumor.

Colorectal cancer is relatively very common and slowly growing and progressing cancer.
The disease is also the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in developed countries, including the US and Canada.

According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, in the US,
101,420 new cases of colon cancer and 44,180 new cases of rectal cancer will be diagnosed in 2019.
Additionally, colorectal cancer will also cause the death of 51,020 Americans in 2019.

Overall, the lifetime risk of colorectal cancer developing is 1 in 22 (4.49%) in men and 1 in 24 (4.15%) in women.

Besides adenocarcinomas, the common type of colorectal cancer originated in epithelium tissues and squamous cells that make up the bowel lining together with the gland cells, other types of colorectal tumors include
* Carcinoid
Carcinoid is an unusual type of slow growth neuroendocrine tumor in the hormone-producing tissue in the digestive system. the condition may look benign but can spread to other parts of the body as they grow

* Leiomyosarcomas
Leiomyosarcomas are the rare and resistant types of colorectal cancer and generally not very responsive to chemotherapy or radiation. They are a malignant abnormal mass of tissue of smooth muscles of the colon, comprising between 5–10% of soft tissue sarcomas.

* Lymphomas
Bowel lymphomas are rare and more likely to start in the rectum rather in the colon. Many patients with lymphomas are diagnosed in the late stage and already spread to other organs.

* Melanomas
Melanomas are a rare malignant tumor of cells that produce the dark pigment. This type of bowel cancer usually originates from somewhere else and then spread to the bowel.

Carotenoids is a class of mainly yellow, orange, or red fat-soluble pigments, including lycopene and carotene, found abundantly in ripe tomato, pumpkins, carrots, corn, and daffodils.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of colorectal cancer, researchers investigated whether dietary lutein/zeaxanthin, the major compounds found in carotenoid intake affect colorectal cancer risk in patients with a DICER1 rs3742330 polymorphism.

The experiment included 923 colorectal cancer patients and 1,846 controls based on eligibility criteria, that answered the semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire and the DICER1 rs3742330 genotype.

Based on the returned questionnaires differentiation, the highest quartile of lutein/zeaxanthin consumption was inversely associated with colorectal cancer risk.

In genotype analysis, patients who carry G allele (AG + GG) showed a significantly reduced colorectal cancer incidence compared to that of AA carriers.

Furthermore, patients with G allele (AG + GG) along with high lutein/zeaxanthin consumption were markedly associated with a decreased colorectal cancer risk, particularly in rectal cancer compared to that of AA carriers with low lutein/zeaxanthin intakes.

The results strongly suggested that carotenoids major compounds lutein/zeaxanthin has a strong implication on the colorectal cancer risk in patients with DICER1 rs3742330 genotype.

Dr. Kim J, the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders wrote in the final report, " colorectal cancer risk was related to an interactive effect between dietary lutein/zeaxanthin intake and the DICER1 rs3742330 polymorphism".

Taken altogether, carotenoids may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of carotenoids in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Healthy Legume, Navy Bean Promotes the Gut Health

By Kyle J. Norton

The colon formed part of the digestive system is also called the large intestine which plays a critical role in removing water, salt, and forming a stool through its muscles lines.

There are over 100 trillion live in the colon that maintains a healthy balance with the body.

In a normal or healthy individual,  gut microbiota besides protecting the host against pathogens that cause infectious disease, it also has strong  imparts in some specific function in the host, including
* Nutrient metabolism is a process that absorbs end products of food digestion such as monosaccharides, glucose from carbohydrates, monoacylglycerol and long-chain fatty acids from lipids, and small peptides and amino acids from protein.

* Xenobiotic metabolism is the action that protects the host against chemicals that affect normal metabolism.

* Drug metabolism is the process to alter chemical of a drug that may cause harm to the body

* Gut microbiota also has been found to protect gut mucosal barrier in preserving the ability to absorb nutrients.

Gut microbiota immunomodulatory activity reduced risk of disease associated with chronic inflammation of the digestive tract, such as bowel inflammatory disease.

However, there are several factors that may have strong impacts on gut microbiota. Dr. Sai Manasa Jandhyala, the lead scientist wrote, " (1) the mode of delivery (vaginal or cesarean); (2) diet during infancy (breast milk or formula feeds) and adulthood (vegan based or meat based); and (3) use of antibiotics or antibiotic like molecules that are derived from the environment or the gut commensal community.

And "A major concern of antibiotic use is the long-term alteration of the normal healthy gut microbiota and horizontal transfer of resistance genes that could result in the reservoir of organisms with a multidrug-resistant gene pool".

The small, white navy bean, also called pea bean or haricot, popular in both dry and green forms, is very popular in Britain and the US, native to Peru. It is now grown and consumed across the world, due to their numerous health benefits.

On finding a natural compound for the improvement of colon health, researchers examined the effect of cooked navy bean (NB) or black bean (BB) flours on the colonic microenvironment in the gut.

The study included C57Bl/6 mice were fed diets supplemented with 20% cooked navy bean (NB) or black bean (BB) flours or an isocaloric basal diet control (BD) for 3 weeks.

According to the tested analysis
* Both NB and BB similarly altered the fecal microbiota community structure by increasing the abundance of carbohydrate fermenting bacteria such as Prevotella, S24-7, and Ruminococcus flavefaciens.

* Both beans also enhanced short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production (microbial-derived carbohydrate fermentation products) by activating the colonic expression of the SCFA receptors GPR-41/-43/-109a associated with reduced colonic inflammation.

* Furthermore, parameters associated with the improvement of the colon health were also enhanced by the administration of black and navy beans, including the biomarkers of colon barrier integrity such as crypt height, mucus content, cell proliferation, and goblet cell number.

The results strongly suggested that navy bean improves colon health by increasing the expression of gut "good" microorganisms.

Based on the findings, researchers said, " Overall, NB and BB improved baseline colonic microenvironment function by altering the microbial community structure and activity and promoting colon barrier integrity and function; effects which may prove beneficial in attenuating gut-associated diseases".

Taken altogether, the cooked navy bean may be considered a remedy for the improvement of the colon health, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
