Herbal Therapy: Green Tea Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) In Reduced Risk and Treatment of Esophageal Cancer

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of esophageal cancer, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Esophageal cancer is medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of esophagus. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.
According to statistic, 2,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2017.

In the review of literature published online, green tea efficacy in treatment of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was expressed in number of mechanisms.

In esophageal cancer cell lines Eca109 and Ec9706, injection of green tea EGCG plus chemodrug adriamycin (ADM) after 24 hours displayed a significantly increased cellular apoptosis.

According to flow cytometry assay, the application induced the elevation of ROS and ADM concentration in production of toxicity to counter the reaction of tumor cell in diminished expression of mitochondrial membrane potential and ABCG2 protein to induced apoptosis.without harming to healthy cells.

ABCG2 protein expression plays a major role in multi-drug resistance, produced by tumor cells to accounter reaction to chemo-medicine.
Mitochondrial membrane potential is a central intermediate in oxidative energy metabolism, the deceased levels caused by toxicity ROS may result in energy deletion and subsequently, causing cells death.

Further observation also indicated that EGCG inhibited the growth of Eca109 and Ec9706 cells through ameliorated the anti apoptotic bcl-2 protein expression and promoted bax and caspase-3 protein expressions with functions in induced apoptosis in a dose- and time- dependent manner.

BCL2 family members form hetero- or homodimers and plays an important anti-apoptotic protein.

Caspase-3 protein.plays a central role in the execution-phase of cell apoptosis.

BAX gene. BAX is a member of the Bcl-2 gene family. plays an important role in mediation of cell death by apoptosis.

Compared to ADM treatment alone, the Eca109/ABCG2 multi-drug resistance cancer cells, rate of apoptosis and ADM concentration were significant higher anid levels of mitochondrial membrane potential and ABCG2 expression were lower.

In other word, injection of green tea plus ADM was more effective in induced cells death in Eca109/ABCG2 multi-drug resistance cancer cells with expression ROS and ADM in enhanced elevation cytotoxity activity in compared to ADM treatment alone.

After taking into account of others confounders, Dr, Liu L the lead author said, " EGCG inhibited cell growth and induced esophageal cancer cell apoptosis. It reduced the bcl-2 protein expression and increased the bax and caspase-3 protein expression. EGCG reversed multi-drug resistance by reducing ABCG2 expression and increasing the anticancer drug concentration in cancer cells".

In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) without ADM measured by flow cytometry assay, after 24 hours also inhibited cancer site proliferation by increased expression of ROS to attenuate mitochondrial membrane potential function in energy metabolism and caspase-3 protein to cause malignant cellular apoptosis, in a dose-and time-dependent manner.

In the examine the PCR-TRAP argentation analysis during the experiment, EGCG was also demonstrated to inhibit the viability of Eca109 and Ec9706 cells by suppressing cancer cell in alternated DNA transcript through telomerase activity.

More interestingly, the continuation of study of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on the human esophageal cancer cell line ECa109 also discover that EGCG demonstrated a decrease of cancer cell viability but a substantial rate of apoptosis by increased expression of p16 gene demethylation in induced cancer cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, level p16 mRNA expression in suppressed tumor progression of invasive and aggressive behavior.and p16 protein expression in promoted tumor suppressible activity, in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

P16 gene demethylation plays an important role in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. gene alternation was found in several types of cancer.

Low level of  p16 mRNA expression is associated to progression of  cancer with malignant and aggressive behavior.

Abnormalities of p16 gene and loss of p16 protein expression may be related to the pathogenesis and development of some cancers.

Taken together, green tea with abundance of phytochemical Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as an adjunct therapy to combine with standard chemo-medicine in reduced risk and treatment of esophageal cancer.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga Participated Attenuated Symptoms and Treatment of Depression

Kyle J. Norton

Good news for attendees in yoga lessons, some scientists suggested that yoga may be the best treatment used as adjunct intervention for patients with continued depressive symptoms despite antidepressant treatment.

Depression is a normal response as part of our daily lives such as the loss of s job, the death of a love one, and illness. Over 30 million Americans suffer from depression and the amount is increasing in an alarming rate. Depression may be a mental health disorder that can affect the way you eat, sleep, and the way you feel about yourself.

Antidepressant is a type of conventional medicine used as first line treatment of depression.

Yoga is an ancient practical technique of India, included breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture,..... with an aim to achieve harmonization of the body, mind, and spirit.

In a randomized controlled trial of weekly yoga classes (n = 63) vs health education classes (Healthy Living Workshop; HLW; n = 59) in individuals with elevated depression symptoms and antidepressant medication use. HLW served as an attention-control group, with intervention period of 10 weeks, with follow-up assessments 3 and 6 months afterwards, group attended yoga class showed decreased levels of depression in comparison to control group.
At 6-month follow-up, researchers found that 51% of yoga participants displayed an improvement of great than 50% in reduction in depression symptoms compared with 31% of HLW participants.

Healthy Living Workshop is a form of self management program with an aim to assist participants to learn self-management skills in dealing symptoms of their chronic condition, and emotions when living with a chronic condition..., particularly in patients with chronic depression.

The program also is considered as a self care tool for caregivers, including family and friends caring for older adults suffering with chronic conditions to reduce personal stress, change negative self-talk....

In fact, yoga participation in deep relaxation and meditation creates a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping stage with an aim to improve sleep, calm the mind and ameliorate stress that may boost the production of hormone endorphins in reduced state of  depression.

Furthermore, deep breathing and meditation in yoga practice also promoted physical and mental health, particular for people struggling with depression and induced far fewer side effects and risk of potential drug interactions. Most students after taking yoga class for a few weeks also indicated that they have reduced intake of anti depressant doses.

Indeed, in compared to anti depressant in induced serious symptoms of mood disorder causing sadness and serious mental health issues accompanied with physical side effects of nausea and insomnia, yoga deep breathing and meditation eased the the above symptoms and side effect without the use of potentially harmful medication, the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine study suggested.

Dr. Uebelacker LA, the lead author suggested, yoga participants expressed a fewer depression symptoms which was found over the entire follow-up period. the benefits of yoga may gradually accumulate over time.

Nevertheless, a recruited 38 adults in San Francisco meeting criteria for major depression of mild-to-moderate severity, per structured psychiatric interview and scores of 14-28 on Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI) study also found that the efficacy of yoga in demonstration of decline in BDI scores than controls and yoga participants were more likely to achieve remission, defined per final BDI score ≤ 9 (p-value = 0.018)in adults with mild-to-moderate major depression.

Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI) is a psychometric tests used to measure the severity of depression, containing questionnaire of 21-question multiple-choice self-report inventory.

And reduced BDI is an indication of improvement in compared to before intervention score.

Collectively, people with depressive syndrome may be benefits in reduction of symptoms, if participated in yoga class regardless to the treatment of antidepressant medicine.

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea may have positive and potential effect in reduced risk and treatment of leukemia, according to studies of some scientists.

Leukemia is a malignant progressive disease characterized by irregular cell growth in the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs. According to the statistic, approximately Over 300 children with 0-14 years of age are diagnosed with leukemia each year in Canada alone.

In the review of literature published online, green extract epigallocatechin‑3-O-gallate (EGCG) processed a significant anti cancer effect in reduced chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) expansion in the myeloid cells through numbers of mechanisms.

Application of green tea epigallocatechin‑3-O-gallate (EGCG) in reduced risk of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) was found to associate to the cellular process of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-dependent pathway and protein kinase Cδ expression to induce cancer cells apoptosis by increased acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) and lipid raft clustering in CML cells.

Acid sphingomyelinase (ASM), an enzyme plays an important role in normal membrane turnover.

Protein kinase Cδ expression plays a key role in signal transduction and are involved in the regulation of numerous cellular processes.

Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-is a important second messenger in many biological processes involved a series of molecular functions.

Further analysis also suggested that exhibited sGC function by injection of green tea EGCG, may be an ideal approach to suppresses proliferation and survival of human CML

In other words, reduced expression of regulation of sGC caused by decreased NO production may initiate growth and survival advantage in CML tumor cells.

Soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) is the only known receptor for nitric oxide.

Pharmacologically, pretreatment of soluble guanylate cyclase inhibitor NS-2028 decreased nitric oxide (NO)-stimulated sGC activity also reduced green tea polyphenol activities in activated sphingomyelinase (ASM) production.

NS-2028 is a specific inhibitor of soluble guanylyl cyclase.

In acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), green tea (Camellia sinensis) catechin epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) displayed a strong and positive effect in elevating the expression of genes associated with cell cycle arrest and differentiation, including gene expression p27, PCAF, C/EBPα, and C/EBPɛ

P27, a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1B is an enzyme inhibitor and in elevation exerted positive regulation of cancer activity at the G1/S phase transition in cell division.

P300/CBP-associated factor (PCAF), is gene associated in binding to many sequence-specific factors involved in cell growth and/or differentiation.

Enhancer binding protein alphaC/EBPα, with function in modulated the expression of genes involved in cell cycle regulation.

Enhancer binding protein epsilon (C/EBPɛ) is a protein composed of two polypeptide chains with function in binding to certain DNA regulatory regions.

Additionally, injection of EGCG also demonstrated a hugh effect against cancerous changes in gene expression and reduced expression of epigenetic modifiers DNMT1, HDAC1, HDAC2, and G9a.

DNA Methyltransferase, (DNMT1), Methylation of DNA is an important component of mammalian epigenetic gene regulation.

Histone deacetylase 1and 2  (HDAC1 and 2) are enzymes promote epigenetic repression and with function in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and development.

Euchromatic histone-lysine N-methyltransferase 2 (EHMT2) or G9a.is an epigenetic modifier enzymes with function in regulating gene expression involved functional role of cancer initiation and progression. Down regulation of G9a also decreased expression of histone H3K9 (H3K9me2) in inhibited cancer cells proliferation

Other, in the multicenter case-control study conducted in China, 2008-2013, comprising 442 incident, hematologically confirmed adult leukemia cases and 442 outpatient controls, individually matched to cases by gender, birth quinquennium by the University of Western Australia also confirmed the inverse association of green tea intake to adult leukemia risk.

Risk of leukemia adjusted odds ratios of 0.50 was found in green tea drinkers in compared to non drinker, particularly in patients with GSTM1 and GSTP1 genotypes.

Dr. Liu P, the lead author said, "regular daily green tea consumption may reduce leukemia risk in Chinese adults regardless of GSTM1 and GSTP1 polymorphic status. The association between green tea and adult leukemia risk varied with GSTT1 genotype".

Taking altogether, green tea and epigallocatechin‑3-O-gallate (EGCG) intake may be considered as secondary therapeutic application combined with standard therapy for treatment of Leukemia regardless to polymorphic status.

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea and Its polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate EGCG in Ameliorated Risk and Treatment of Endometrial Cancer

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Scientist may have a popular beverage in reduced risk and treatment of endometrial cancer, according to some studies.

Endometrial cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth uncontrollably in the endometrium. At the late stage, cancerous cell may travel a distance away from the original site to infect other organs and tissues.

In the review of researcher papers online, the effects of green tea polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in inhibition of endometrial cancer was expressed in various aspects.

In the experiment of green tea bioactive compound against progression of tumor xenografts of human endometrial cancer, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate EGCG demonstrated a significant effect in reduced risk of endometrial cancer development through the bioactive chemicals anti tumor angiogenesis properties.

In fact, the anti cancer active compound efficacy was attributed to the modulation of expression of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) protein in the established new vessel to stimulate the onset of cancer and cancer cell proliferation and HIF-1 functions in activated transcription of many genes, in regulated cellular and systemic homeostatic response to external changes to tumor growth.

Furthermore, application of EGCG also suppressed responses of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 12 (CXCL12) in expression of multiple physiological processes, in promoted invasion and metastasis of tumor cells in connected tissues of the uterine mucosa (endometrium), thus reducing the infiltration of VEGFA-expressing tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in supplying rapidly growing malignant tissues with essential nutrients and oxygen.

Additionally, further analysis also insisted that EGCG restricted secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) in initiated endometrial cancer growth by inhibiting the function of PI3K/AKT/mTOR/HIF1α pathway in regulated many cellular processes, including cell survival, proliferation, and growth.

After taking account of all findings, treatment with EGCG reduced risk of endometrial cancer onset may be results of  EGCG suppressed secretion in both fronts including decreased cancer cell-secreted VEGFA but inhibited TAM-secreted VEGFA in endometrial cancer progression.

Further differentiation, also showed that green tea polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate reduced cancer expansion by suppressing the expression of proliferation markers which acts indirectly to stimulate endometrial epithelial proliferation in estrogen receptor α, progesterone receptor, proliferating cell nuclear antigen and cyclin D1

The overexpression of cyclin D1 has been linked to the development and progression of cancer.

Proliferating cell nuclear antigen is a protein with function in cell cycle regulation and/or DNA replication and important for both DNA synthesis and DNA repair.

Importantly, the inhibition of EGCG also decreased the activation of ERK, the extracellular signal–regulated kinases protein in cancer cell division and down expression of transcription factors fos and jun, the cellular immediate-early genes in induced transient cancer cell division and differentiation processes.

The function of EGCG in reduced risk of endometrial cancer also expressed through Bcl-2-associated X protein, cleavage of caspase-3 and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase actions in induction of cancer cell apoptosis and suppression of antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 (B-cell lymphoma 2).

Bcl-2-associated X is a protein with function of anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in a wide variety of cellular activities.

B-cell lymphoma 2, a family protein with function in regulation of cell apoptosis.

Cleavage of caspase-3 also is known as a critical executioner of apoptosis,

Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase is a protein with function involved in a number of cellular processes, including programmed cell death.

Implicitly, application of EGCG also increased production of free radical expression in initiated the cytoxicity effect by reduced levels of antioxidant glutathione levels and activated the p38 in cancer cells death without inducing toxicity to normal cells

P38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) are activated by a wide range of cellular stresses as well as in response to inflammatory cytokines involved in cell differentiation, apoptosis and autophagy.

In deed, according to a systematic review of literature published on database of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and China Biological Medicine Database upto February 2, 2015 , researchers indicated that green tea consumption was associated with a reduced risk of EC with a relative risk of .78 and each additional cup of green tea consumed per day decreased risk of developing EC by 11%.

Particularly, intake of green tea associated to attenuated risk of endometrial cancer was 84.33% in compared to 5.07 % of black tea.

Taken together, green tea, and its polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate EGCG may be considered a functional food used conjunction with standard therapy in reduced risk and treatment of endometrial cancer.

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea and Bioactive Saponin In Prevention and Treatment of Lymphoma

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea may have a sustainable and profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of lymphoma, some scientists suggested.

Lymphoma is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the lymph nodes. There were 661,996 people living with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the United States, 2014.

According to the medical literature online, intake of green tea saponin and phenolic  may have a strong influence in lymphoma oncogenesis through some certain aspects.

In EL4 cancer cells line, injection of green bioactive saponin stimulated the immunomodulatory activity in inhibited EL4 cells line through regulated cytokine expression induced by inflammation and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) signaling pathway involved in a variety of fundamental cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, motility, stress response, apoptosis, and survival.

Furthermore, injected saponin also reduced the expression of EL4 cells line in tumor proliferation by interrupting the process of sequence of mutated DNA transcript in mRNA expression in transmitting transcript by initiating production of inflammatory cytokines to reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in making copies of alternated gene, thus attenuating risk of  tumor growth, tumor progression and immuno-suppression, activities in host anti-tumor response.

Treatment of green tea saponin also was found to induced cytotoxicity to EL4 cancer cell line without causing harm to healthy cells.

Additionally, the efficacy of tea saponin in inhibition of the proliferation and invasiveness of T-lymphoma (EL4) cells, may be also attributed to the effect of others inflammatory cytokines such as  tumor necrosis factor alphaTNF-α in induced cancer cells death and NF-κB in controlled transcription of DNA, cytokine production and cell survival through mediated the regulation of MAPK pathway in transduction (process by which foreign DNA is introduced into a cell by a virus or viral vector) and extracellular signals to cellular responses in induction of cell proliferation, differentiation, development, transformation, and apoptosis.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha TNF-α, a pro-inflammatory cytokine plays an important role in the acute phase of inflammation with function in regulation of regulation of biological processes including cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.

Nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) is a transcription factor with function in regulated expression of genes involving many biological processes including innate and adaptive immunity, inflammation and stress responses,

In NOD/SCID mice transplanted intraperitoneally with human non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) cell lines Namalwa, RAP1-EIO and HS-Sultan, injection of green tea displayed a significant inhibition of
50% of Namalwa tumors and RAP1-EIO and HS-Sultan tumor through paralyzed tumor invasive activities.

In compared to chemotherapy drug cyclophosphamide, green tea exhibited anti-angiogenic effect in induction of.frequency of apoptotic endothelial and tumor cell and promoted tumor shrinking by blocking the formation of  new blood vessels in providing nutrients and fluid for tumor expansion.

Base on the information findings, researchers opinionated, "Further trials in NHL to evaluate whether green tea, alone or in combination with chemotherapy, may delay or prevent disease progression".

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea Bioactive Polyphenol EGCG for Ameliorated Risk and Treatment of Colon Cancer

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea with abundant polyphenol, may have a sustainable effect in reduced progression and treatment of colon cancer, some scientists suggested

Colon cancer is a medical condition caused by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the colon tissues. At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away to infect other healthy organs and tissues.

In the review of medical literature published online, green tea efficacy in reduced risk and treatment of colon cancer may be associated to the bioactive polyphenol EGCG expression in promoted and
decreased certain interaction in the cell profiles through various mechanisms.

According to the study by the University College of Medicine, Seoul, application of EGCG on HT-29 colon cancer cells showed a significant effect in inhibition of cell cycle progression of protein in COX-2 expression. through activation of AMPK activity in promoted metabolic tumor suppressor by regulating energy levels, enforcing metabolic checkpoints and inhibiting cell growth.

Cyclooxygenase(COX)-2, is an enzyme with function in speeding up the production of hormone prostaglandins in regulated cell proliferation and cell apoptosis.

AMPK(5' AMP-activated protein kinase) plays a role in cellular energy homeostasis, activation of AMPK may result in tumor growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis of cancer cells in some tumor types/contexts.

Additionally, in inhibition of COX-2 expression green tea EGCG reduced prostaglandin E(2) secretion, thus reducing risk of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in modulated angiogenesis, including the process of new blood vessel formation, promoted proliferation, migration and formation of endothelial cells, lining the interior surface of blood vessels and lymphatic vessels.

The study also emphasized that inhibiting AMPK by an AMPK inhibitor may interrupt the function of the bioactive compound in initiated such changes.

Continuously, the activation of enzyme AMPK also had a strong implication on VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) and glucose transporter in facilitated the transport of glucose over a plasma membrane and  Glut-1 in facilitated the transport of glucose across the plasma membranes of mammalian cells in EGCG-treated cancer cells.

Further analysis, application of EGCG activated AMPK enzyme also modulated the production of ROS without causing ROS expression in initiated tumor progression and damage to cellular structures, such as the lipid membrane, protein and nucleic acid but inducing cancer cells DNA mutations and compromised genome integrity, subsequently in cancer cells senescence and death.

In other aspect of study of colon cancer in animal model, diminished levels of retinoid X receptor-alpha (RXRα) in regulated cancer cell growth and modulated suppress tumorigenesis may have a profound effect in cell proliferation.

Application of green tea bioactive EGCG expressed a significant effect in restored RXRα protein and expression levels caused by methylation function in alternated the activity of a DNA segment without changing the sequence, thus reducing risk of cancer expansion.

Additional differentiation also suggested that EGCG induced methylation changes in several other colon cancer related genes to restore the levels of RXRα without causing a decrease in global methylation in maintaining the epigenetic state of individual genes.

Change of globe methylation expression is found to associate to the occurrence of cancer.

Retinoid X receptor-alpha (RXRα) is a nuclear receptor with function in regulated cancer proliferation  and modulated suppression of tumorigenesis.

Based the results finding, EGCG with a novel therapeutic effect on common and on chemo-resistant colon cancer cells may be considered as a secondary application used combination with chemotherapeutic agents, 5-FU for  treatment of any types of colon cancer

Food Therapy: Beet or Beet Root, The Best in Ameliorated Oxidative Stress

Kyle J. Norton

Beet may have a potential effect as antioxidants in reduced free radical and oxidative stress expression through its chemical constituents, some scientists suggested

Antioxidants are the set of substances with inhibited oxidative function

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet and belonging to the amaranth family, is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.

According to the joint study lead by the Istanbul Technical University, fresh red beetroot and beet roots products contain several major antioxidants with efficacy different, depending to total antioxidant capacities (TAC)(total phenolic (TP) and total flavonoid (TF) contents and individual).

In Lactobacillus paracasei 0920 (FBJ) on carcinogen induction of aberrant crypt foci (ACF), the abnormal tube-like glands in the lining of the colon and rectum in rat colon by 2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b] pyridine (PhIP) administrated intragastrically at a dose of 10 μg/day, every day of the experiment, rats fed with beetroot juice showed a significant improvement of  cytotoxic and genotoxic effects through increased the antioxidant status of serum from 40% to 66% depending on the fraction.

In other words, oxidative stress induced production of toxins and toxic chemical agents which may alternate DNA transcript were inhibited by phytochemicals in beet juice.

2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b] pyridine (PhIP) is a toxic chemical formed in condensation of creatinine found in muscle meats, with amino acids in high temperature,

Interestingly, the formation of pro-oxidative stress found in blood of colorectal carcinoma patients.was associated to decreased concentration of antioxidant status together with lower amount of uric acid in expression of antioxidant which was found to have a potential effect
in treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress.

Furhtermore, levels of oxidative stress is also found in the measurement of serum antioxidant status and the level of malondialdehyde, a marker of oxidative stress in the rats kidneys and liver.

Additionally, in a male Wistar rat model of oxidative stress induced by N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)), group fed with beetroot juice per os, 8 mL/kg/day for 28 days, and a single i.p. dose of the xenobiotics: 150 mg/kg NDEA or 2 mL/kg CCl(4) and xenobiotics only group, treatment group showed a partial recovery in the activity of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, by 35% and 66%, respectively.

Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) with peroxidase activity is an antioxidant with function to protect the organism from oxidative damage.

The activity of glutathione reductase is a cellular antioxidant with function to protect the organism against xenobiotics.

Particularly, the levels of Superoxide dismutase activity against oxidative stress induced formation of inflammation also increased by 3-fold in compared to non juice treatment group.

Importantly, treatment group also showed a significant inhibition of oxidative stress in protected DNA damage caused by N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) by 20%.

These findings showed a remarkable efficacy of beet juice and products in ameliorate free radicals and pro inflammatory expression through elevated antioxidant status which warrant a human trial for validity.
