Food Therapy: High Amount Coffee and Coffee Caffeine May Have A negative Interaction with Antibiotics Used for Treatment of Diverticular Disease?

By Kyle J. Norton

Diverticulitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the small, bulging sacs or pouches of the inner lining of the intestine caused by small pieces of stool (feces) trapped in these pouches.

Coffee, second to tea consumption, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Contrast to general believe, Coffee and caffeine intake do not have significant risk of diverticular disease, but a negative interaction to Antibiotics prescribed for treatment of disease, a renowned university study suggested.

According to a prospective cohort of 47,678 US men, 40 to 75 years old, during 4 years of follow-up (1988 to 1992), documented 382 newly diagnosed cases of symptomatic diverticular disease,  caffeine, specific caffeinated beverages, and decaffeinated coffeeand did not express any relative risk of symptomatic diverticular disease.

Even after taking account of all other factors into account, coffee and coffee caffeine intake may only have insignificant in increased risk of the disease in men.

Other, in the study of risk factors and pathogenesis of Diverticular Disease also indicated a similar result as coffee, and caffeine have not shown to be risk factors, regardless amounts of intake and even after considered aging factor.

In the article published on healthy women by By Nora Saul, MS, RD, LDN, CDE, coffee caffeine injection of high amounts of more than 600 milligrams of caffeine per day, found in three to seven cups of coffee. may interact with certain antibiotics used in treatment of Diverticular Disease

The author also said, "although you don't need to stop caffeine altogether while on a diet for diverticulitis, it's a good idea to avoid taking in too much while your bowel is healing".

In support to her statement, according to the study by Babcock University, "caffeine should not be combined with antibiotics as this could result in serious therapeutic failure and, possibly, drug toxicity in vivo"

Taking together, coffee and coffee caffeine intake do not have any substantial effect in increased risk of diverticular disease but in diverticular disease treatment patients, reduced intake of coffee may be recommended.

Intake of coffee and coffee caffeine daily and regularly may gave a profound effect in reduced risk  and treatment of hyperlipidemia, a renowned institute study suggested.

Hyperlipidemia is a condition of abnormal high blood cholesterol in the blood stream, leading to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In study of a total of 40 male hamsters randomly assigned to five groups: (1) vehicle control, (2) high-cholesterol diet control, (3) high-cholesterol diet of 311 mg/kg/d of CCGG, (4) high-cholesterol diet of 622 mg/kg/d of CCGG and (5) high-cholesterol diet of 1555 mg/kg/d of CCGG, researchers found that group treated  with CCGG demonstrated a significantly reduced serum lipid content (triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL-C) and hepatic lipid content (triglycerides and cholesterol) with dose-dependent manner in compared to other treated groups.

Additionally, researchers also found that CCGG treatment group expressed an increase in excretion of faecal lipids (bile acids) in compared to other groups.

Dietary CCGG supplementation exerted potential effects on ameliorating hyperlipidaemia may be attributed to coffee petrochemicals in inhibited pro inflammatory cytokins expression, researchers continued.

Contrastively, in review of literature from several English and Chinese electronic databases up to September 2011 for randomized controlled trials of coffee on serum lipids, including 12 studies conducted in Western countries with a total of 1017 subjects, researchers at the Peking University Health Science Center postulated that drinking coffee for 45 days, the average in all meta-analysis showed an increase of 8.1 mg/dl for total cholesterol (TC), 5.4 mg/dl  for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and 12.6 mg/dl  for triglyceride (TG), in dose depending manner.

Total cholesterol increased even greater in unfiltered coffee and caffeinated coffee in compared to coffee group.

Surprisingly, in Asian population, coffee and coffee caffeine intake daily and regularly demonstrated a positive effect in increased TC, LDL-C and TG, in compared to the Western counter part.

In tackle these conflict results, we examined a Medline search of the English-language literature published prior to December 1998, with identified 14 published trials of coffee consumption and suggested that coffee intake in association to increase serum lipids was greater in studies of patients with precondition of hyperlipidemia in compared to trials of caffeinated or boiled coffee. And there is an insignificantly increased serum cholesterol in trials using filtered coffee.

With all the finding evidences, we finally suggested that only consumption of unfiltered coffee increases serum levels of total and LDL cholesterol but not others.

Taking together, intake of filtered coffee and coffee caffeine may have a positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of hyperlipidemia. People in Asian group should be aware that intake of coffee may contribute to risk of hyperlipidemia as shown in some Asian particioant studies.

Good news to all coffee drinkers regularly, Coffee and coffee caffeine intake may have a profound effect in reduced risk, delay progression and treatment of liver cancer, according to the suggestion by the joint study led by German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrücke.

Liver cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and unmanageable in the liver organ. The disease at the later stage may travel a distant away to other tissues or organs.

Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In a prospective nested case-control study within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition among 125 incident HCC cases matched to 250 controls using an incidence-density sampling procedure, scientists found that the relative risk ratio in coffee group was lower significantly for patients drinking ≥4 cups (600 mL) in compared to compared those with less than 2 cups per day.

After additional evaluation, researchers indicated that the efficacy of coffee in ameliorated risk of liver cancer incidence may attribute to biochemicals in inhibited the proinflammatory and exhibited antioxidant expressions.

The combined functions in decreased  proinflammatory expression and improved antioxidant status also showed a greater activity in reduced the regression coefficients by 0.72. These results confirmed the inverse association of coffee intake with HCC risk probably due to biomarkers of inflammation and and free radical production in hepatocellular injury.

Other, in the newly diagnosed case patients (250 men and 84 women) with HCC identified from a 10-year follow-up of the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study consisting 90,452 middle-aged and elderly Japanese subjects (43,109 men and 47,343 women), after taking into account of other confounders, researchers filed the following results
1. People drinking coffee daily and regular had a lower HCC risk in compared to those almost never drank coffee.
2.The risk of liver cancer decrease linearly to numbers of cup of coffee consumed.
3. Explicitly, The risk of liver cancer in almost never drinkers was 547.2/100,000 people over 10 years, in compared to 214.6/00 000 people, drinking coffee on a daily basis.

More importantly, in the hepatitis B and C positive groups of this population, coffee drinking daily showed a similar effect to those without.

In further support the above differentiation, the Saga University filed a case-control study of recruited 209 incident HCC cases and three different controls (1308 community controls, 275 hospital controls, and 381 patients with chronic liver disease [CLD] without HCC), all of whom were aged 40-79 years and residents of Saga Prefecture, Japan, suggested that coffee intake during showed a linearly negative effect in risk of cancer, depending to cups coffee consumed daily in long term drinkers.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that coffee intake has a significant and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of liver cancer regardless to viral expression such as hepatitis B, C......

Metabolic syndrome is a condition of abnormal blood pressure, blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist,... which can lead to early onset of diabetes, cardiovascular disease,..
..
People who participated in yoga class regularly are likely to have a lower risk of metabolic syndrome development, a renowned study suggested.

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

According to the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, yoga, a form of physical activity that incorporates psychological components (e.g., maintaining attention, relaxation) may process a health benefits in alleviated risk of metabolic syndrome and improved mental stress and quality of life.

In a sixty-seven adults at risk for MetS enrolled (mean age [SD]: 58 [10] years; 50% male; 79% non-Hispanic White) in 12-week yoga program coupled with an evidence-based health education program (HED), in compared to HED alone, researchers found that participants in yoga program coupled with an evidence-based health education program (HED) showed a significant improvement of twice quality of life domains in compared health education group.

Dr. Sohl SJ, the lead author said, " implemented lifestyle education along with yoga to evaluate the potential unique effects of yoga on participants at risk for MetS".

Furthermore, in another 12 weeks yoga lessons of 173 Chinese men and women aged 18 or above either assigned to either the yoga intervention group (n = 87) or the control group (n = 86), after taking into account of other confounders, researchers indicated that yoga group showed a greater decline in waist circumference (p<0.001), fasting glucose (p<0.01), triglycerides (p<0.05), and MetS z score, in comparison to control.

Also, the yoga group expressed a significant improved general health perceptions (p<0.01), physical component score (p<0.01), and social functioning (p<0.01) domains score of HRQo with no difference in the enhanced systolic/diastolic blood pressures or high-density lipid protein cholesterol in both group.

Promisingly, the 2009-2012, 48-week randomized trial comparing restorative yoga vs. stretching among underactive adults with the metabolic syndrome at the Universities of California, San Francisco and San Diego of 180 participants randomized and 135 (75%) completed the trial, at 12 moths, suggested that yoga participants displayed a magnificent decrease of fasting glucose, insulin, and HbA1c and increase in HDL-cholesterol in compared to stretch group.

Taking altogether, yoga may be used as physical therapy in reduced risk and treatment of metabolic syndrome with greater effect in comparison to other forms of treatment in the article, but participants should always engage only to class tailored to their needs.

Coffee intake regularly may decrease risk of esophageal cancer developing, according to the study conducted by the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negr".

Esophageal cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the esophagus, the food tube that runs between the throat and stomach.

Coffee, becoming a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

According to the data base extracted from hospital-based case-control studies conducted in Italy and Switzerland on oral/pharyngeal cancer included 749 cases and 1772 controls, with esophageal cancer 395 cases and 1066 controls, researchers indicated that the relative ratio of esophageal cancer for patients drinking >3 cups/day were 0.6. And the inverse association was more profound if taking other factors into account.

The study also insisted, there are no association between risk of esophageal cancer and decaffeinate coffee drinking and people consuming coffee in low amounts.

Additionally, in the study of 38,679 subjects aged 40-64 years with no previous history of cancer, 157 cases of oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal cancers identified during 13.6 years of follow-up, coffee intake regularly of 1 cup or more showed a inverse association in risk of esophageal cancer, regardless to sex and cancer site.

The relative hazard ratio of these group was 0.51 in compared to no consumption group.

Further to confirm the positive effect of coffee intake in attenuated esophageal cancer risk, the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO-IDIBELL) conducted a study in examined the association of tea and coffee consumption with EC risk among 442,143 men and women without cancer at baseline from 9 countries of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition, suggested that according to the returned questionnaire
1. During a mean follow-up of 11.1 years, coffee intake regular patients showed a significant lower risk of esophageal cancer in compared to non drinkers group.
2. Men coffee consumption was inversely related to esophagealsquamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), but not among women.
3. Risk of esophageal cancer was reduced in current smokers with coffee consumption.

Taking altogether, coffee consumption daily and regularly are associated to reduced risk of esophageal cancer, particular in men and smokers.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga, in Reduced Risk and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Disorders

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga, as an  adjunct intervention may be combined to standard treatment in reduced gastrointestinal disorders, some scientists suggested.

Gastrointestinal diseases are the class of diseases of the digestive system including the diseases of  esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best  known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In comparison of the effectiveness of standard medical care (SMC) and mixture of yoga poses, meditation, and relaxation exercises given once a week in group of 69 patients, ages 8 to 18 years, with abdominal pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs), at the end of experiment, yoga participated group demonstrated a significant improvement of all aspects related  to abdominal pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs) of 58% inconpared to only 29% of non yoga group.

Subanalyses over the time period of 12 months, also expressed a significant greater reduction of PIS in favor of YT.

In fact, the presence of abdominal pain-related functional gastrointestinal disorders (AP-FGIDs may be a stress related diseases. As stress may elevate hormone production of cortisol levels in activation of the "flight or fight" response which direct blood flow to the nervous system, causing the reduced blood flow for muscle of the digestive system to perform its function optimally.

Furthermore, the elevated cortisol levels and reduced blood flow frequency caused by chronic stress, have been found to associated to the risk of gastrointestinal disorder, thus inducing symptoms expression of digestive disorder such as abdominal pain.

According to Dr. E A Mayer in the article of The neurobiology of stress and gastrointestinal disease, "the role of stress in the modulation of the most common gastrointestinal disorders has traditionally been considered a domain of psychology, and has frequently been lumped together with the role of ..... Chronically elevated cortisol levels".

Additionally, stress also was found to associated to reduced function of immune system in fighting against viral bacterial invasion, thus increasing risk gastrointestinal infection and inflammation.

some researchers also suggested that chronic stress may induce ulcer as a result of over expression of hormone adrenaline and depressed digestive system

Yoga exercise has been found to induce a state of calmness in reduced tension by some stress event and created a clear mind to tackle the stress in a positive way through relaxation and breathing, particularly, in harmonization of  the mind and body, yoga lead us to the stage existed in the present moment and connected mindful, conscious and connected way in solving stress.

Dr. Korterink JJ, the led author said, "At 1-year follow-up, YT in addition to standard care was superior compared with SMC according to treatment success, PIS, and reduction of school absence".

Interestingly, yoga therapy also showed to improve gastrointestinal disorder in day time behaviors problem of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), by reduced levels of inflammation in intestinal tract, irritation bowel syndrome, bloating and other digestion related problems.

Additional analysis also suggested that child attended yoga class also expressed improved Gl problems such as chronic constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloody stools, vomiting and flatulence.

In dept differentiation, yoga exercised by children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) exerted a significant improvement of all aspects.

Dr. Kumar Narasingharao, the led author  after taking into account of other confounders, at the conclusion said, "Yoga affects both physiological and psychological level which helps in overall development of ASD children and thus, enhancing the quality of life of children as well as family".

The information findings suggested that yoga may be used as a secondary form of therapy to assist standard intervention in reduced risk and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders
