Scientists may have found a food whole plant in exerting neuroprotective effect, the renowned institute study suggested.

According to the MVP Samaj's College of Pharmacy, methinic extract of beet fed to experiment animal showed a significant effect in increased motor function at 200, and 300 mg/kg, in doses depending manner.

Neuroprotection is an action used to ensure the brain normal function against nerve cells damage, degeneration in inducing impairment.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet and belonging to the amaranth family, is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.

According to the MVP Samaj's College of Pharmacy, methinic extract of beet fed to experiment animal showed a significant effect in increased motor function at 200, and 300 mg/kg, in doses depending manner.

Oral administrated animal also showed a strong improvement of intensity of muscular rigidity, duration of catalepsy, akinesia, the number of tremors, locomotor activity and grip strength.

The efficacy of the extracted in contribution of brain health may be a result of present phytochemicals in restoring the defensive antioxidant enzymes in the brain against level of lipid peroxidation (LPO), a leading cause of neuro degeneration.

More interestingly, Betalains, major phytochemicals isolated from beetroot also expressed a extraordinary neuro protective effect in preventing oxidative processes in contribution to the early onset of several degenerative diseases.

In the study of betanin bioavailability in four volunteers with consumption 300 mL of red beet juice, containing 120 mg of the antioxidant, reseraches found that the phytochemical showed a protection against certain oxidative stress-related disorders in humans after absorbed from the gut and identified in urine after 2-4 h, particularly in inhibited lipid peroxidation, a leading cause of neuro degenerative disease.

Dr. Kanner J, the lead author said, "Antioxidant nutrients from fruits and vegetables are believed to be a class of compounds that exert their effects in humans by preventing oxidative processes which contribute to the onset of several degenerative diseases".

Collectively, Whole food beetroot or beet juice may be used as therapeutic agent for preventing the early onset and treatment of neuro degenerative disease through protection of neuro cells against oxidation.

Food Therapy : Coffee, A functional Food for Prevention of Hepatic Cirrhosis

By Kyle J. Norton

Intake of coffee daily and regularly may have a profound and therapeutic effect in reduced risk and treatment of Hepatic Cirrhosis

Coffee, second to green tea, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Hepatic Cirrhosis in a condition characterized the abnormal function of liver due to presence of live damage or scarring.

In the experiments in cellular and animal models provided biological plausibility, coffee consumption exhibited liver protective effect in prevent the Cirrhosis developing through its as antifibrotic activity.

According to the Arauz and colleagues study in the examine one of the key questions regarding the antifibrotic role of coffee, coffee as specifically primary antifibrotic agent.may be considered as function food in prevent and treatment of chronic liver disease.

Dr. Dranoff J in the analysis Coffee Consumption and Risk of of Cirrhosis suggested that coffee consumption is inversely related to progression of liver fibrosis to cirrhosis and even hepatocellular carcinoma.

Furthermore, in the study to evaluate the hepatoprotective properties of coffee and caffeine in a model of chronic bile duct ligation (BDL) in male Wistar rats.with liver injury induced by 28-day BDL, assigned to administered group of conventional coffee, decaffeinated coffee, or caffeine daily, researchers at the lead Autonomous University of Baja California, filed the following results
1. Intake of coffee showed significant effects in promoted antioxidant status by restoring the redox equilibrium, preventing the elevation of liver enzymes as well as hepatic glycogen depletion.
2. Coffee and caffeine consumption prevented collagen increases
3. Coffee intake reduced protein in expression in promote hepatic infectous cell activation,
4. Coffee intake decreased expression levels of transforming growth factor-β, connective tissue growth factor, α-smooth muscle actin, and collagen in inducing further damage in a tested model of chronic bile duct ligation (BDL).

The result indicated that coffee intake have a strong efficacy in prevent liver cirrhosis developing through anti oxidant activity, hepaprotective effect, reduced profibrotic molecules anti proinflammation involved expression of Cirrhosis.

More interestingly, in the comparison of total 195 patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) consumed coffee on a daily basis and 184 patients did not. researchers at the joint study lead by the University Hospital of Heidelberg found that coffee consumption in fact ameliorated progression of liver cirrhosis and increased long-term survival after liver transplantation in compared to non drinker.

With all the information found, one may considered coffee as a function food in attenuated risk and treatment of liver cirrhosis through its liver protective effect via phytochemicals in demonstration of antioxidant expression.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga in Reduced Chronic Neck Pain Intensity

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga intervention may have a positive effect in reduced chronic neck pain, a significant public health problem with only very few evidence-based treatment options, a university study suggested.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes and supported by health advocates.

In the study of total of 51 patients (mean age 47.8 y ; 82.4% female) randomized to yoga (n=25) and exercise (n=26) intervention, with the yoga group attended a 9-week yoga course and the exercise group received a self-care manual on home-based exercises for neck pain relief, researchers found that
1. After the end of the study, yoga group expressed a significantly less neck pain intensity in compared to the exercise group
2. Yoga group also showed a less disability and better mental quality of life
3. The same group also experienced improvement of motion and the pressure pain threshold.

Dr. Cramer H, the led author said, "Yoga was more effective in relieving chronic nonspecific neck pain than a home-based exercise program" and "yoga seems to influence the functional status of neckmuscles, as indicated by improvement of physiological measures of neck pain."

Additionally, in the study of 51 patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain (mean age 47.8 years; 82.4% female) assigned to 9-week yoga group intervention, researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen, filed the following reports at 12-month follow-up, in patients expressed
1. Pain intensity decreased from 48.81 to 32.31 ,
2. Neck-related disability decreased from 25.26  to 19.49 and
3. Body pain in the SF-36((short-form 36 questionnaire) improved from 49.37  to 59.26

The study also indicated that
1. Improvements in pain intensity depends in yoga practice during the past 4 weeks
2. Improved neck-related disability and bodily pain depends on regular yoga practice during the past 12 months

According to the returned questionnaire, 68% of patient reported that yoga intervention may have some positive effects in their health.

Dr. Cramer H,once again said, "Sustained yoga practice seems to be the most important predictor of long-term effectiveness".

More importantly, In a pilot randomized controlled clinical trial of 72 patients randomized to a 9-week Iyengar yoga program with weekly 90-minute classes (n = 38) or to a self-care/exercise program (n = 38) with patients examined at baseline and after 4 and 10 weeks, researchers filed the following reports
1. Mean pain at rest was reduced from 44.3 to 13.0 at week 10 in yoga group
2. Pain at motion was reduced from 53.4 to 22.4 at week 10, in compared to the interval of 49.4 to 39.9 in self-care/exercise froup
3. Yoga intervention also showed significant treatment effects pain-related apprehension, disability, QOL, and psychological outcomes.
4 Yoga intervention was safe or well tolerated

After taking into account of other risk factors, the study postulated that yoga appears to be an effective treatment in chronic neck pain with possibly additional effects on psychological well-being and QOL.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that yoga therapy may have a potential effect in reduced chronic neck pain as well as improving psychological well-being and quality of life, but sustained yoga practice seems to be the most important predictor of long-term effectiveness.

Food Therapy: Moderated Drinking Coffee and Coffee Caffeine in Reduced Risk of Heart Failure, Particularly in Women

By Kyle J. Norton

Intake of coffee and coffee caffeine daily and regularly is associated to reduced risk of heart failure, a renowned university study suggested.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In the review literature from the electronic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, and CINAHL) from January 1966 through December 2011, including five independent prospective studies of coffee consumption and heart failure risk, including 6522 heart failure events and 140 220 participants satisfied the a standardized protocol, researchers found that coffee consumption displayed a statistically significant J-shaped relationship between coffee and heart failure.

The most effective serving of coffee in reduced risk of heart failure incidence was 4 servings/day.
but risk of heart failure increased substantially for people drinking more than 4 cups daily and regularly.

Furthermore, other factors such as sex or by baseline history of myocardial infarction or diabetes showed insignificant risk to heart failure developing.

Dr. Mostofsky E, the lead author said, "Moderate coffee consumption is inversely associated with risk of heart failure, with the largest inverse association observed for consumption of 4 servings per day".

Additionally, in cohorts studies, included 59,490 Finnish participants aged 25-74 years,  free of HF at baseline, risk of HF associated with the amount of coffee consumption daily (0, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-9 and ≥10 cups) were 1.00, 0.9, 0.88, 0.91, 0.96 and 1.02 for men and 1.00, 0.73, 0.77, 0.68, 0.80 and 0.88 for women, respectively.

The result indicated a strong correlation between coffee intake daily and regularly in ameliorated risk of heart failure in women, and coffee consumption was not associated to increase the risk of HF in men. regardless to other independent factors such as age, smoking status, alcohol consumption, history of type 2 diabetes mellitus and body mass index.

Promisingly, according to the meta-analyses of recent well-controlled prospective epidemiologic studies, conducted by the National University of Singapore and National University Health System, coffee-consumption associated with a lower risk of heart failure and for most healthypeople, moderate coffee consumption is unlikely to adversely affect cardiovascular health.

Taking altogether, Moderated intake of coffee may have a profound effect in attenuated risk of heart failure, particularly in women, after taking into account of other factors.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga intervention in Reduced Symptoms and Management of Multiple Sclerosis?

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Yoga therapy may have a therapeutic effect in reduced symptoms and improved quality of life in patient with multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic condition of progressive disease affecting sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, with declining physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms such as numbness, impairment of speech and of muscular coordination, blurred vision, ........

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

According to the study conducted by the Oregon State University, yoga practice may be used as an integrated form of treatment and management of symptoms of MS.

Dr. Rogers KA, the led author said, "the purpose of this paper is to summarize the most relevant literature on exercise and mind-body modalities to treat MS symptoms and, more specifically, the benefits and potential role of yoga as an alternative treatment of symptom management for individuals with MS".

Interestingly, in a study of total of 60 Iranian women with multiple sclerosis (MS) placed in two equally divided control and case groups through random selection to assess pre-and post-effects of yoga exercises on their physical activities and sexual satisfaction levels, researchers, through observation of returned questionnaire suggested that
1. Women participated in yoga training and exercises for 3 months, expressed a significant statistical difference in physical activity
2. Sexual satisfaction levels
3. Women in yoga group displayed improvement in physical ability.

Contrastively, in the searching of database from Medline/PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PsycINFO, CAM-Quest, CAMbase, and IndMED through March 2014, for studies involved the efficacy and safety of yoga in patients with multiple sclerosis including health-related quality of life, fatigue, and/or mobility with mood, cognitive function, and safety were defined as secondary outcome measures, researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen reported the following result, in 7 studies met the criteria and guidelines
1. Patients participated in yoga class short terms demonstrated a significantly improved effect in fatigue and mood change.
2. Short term yoga innervation do not improved health-related quality of life, muscle function, or cognitive function
3. Yoga therapy is safe and was not associated with serious adverse event in this group of patients

After taking into account of other risk factors, Dr. Cramer H,  the led author said, " since no methodological sound evidence was found, no recommendation can be made regarding yoga as a routine intervention for patients with multiple sclerosis. Yoga might be considered a treatment option for patients who are not adherent to recommended exercise regimens".

The information collected did not agree that yoga intervention short term can improve some symptoms and quality of life in patients with MS, therefore, a large sample size and cohost studies are necessary to clarify these contradictory results.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga in Prevention and Treatment of Eating Disorders

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga may be considered as an adjunct therapy combined with standard treatment for lower risk and treatment of eating disorders (EDs), a review study suggested.

Eating Disorders are a group of abnormal eating habits associated to a person preoccupation weight, involving either insufficient or excessive food intake.

Yoga therapy is an ancient practical technique of India, included breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture,..... with an aim to achieve harmonization of the body, mind, and spirit.

In a systematic review literature used yoga for preventing and treating EDs with selection of 14 articles satisfied the guidelines, researchers found that most yoga practitioners indicated a decreased risk for eating disorder but symptoms were reduced or unchanged after yoga interventions.

Other, in the assessment of the effect of individualized yoga treatment on eating disorder outcomes among adolescents receiving outpatient care for diagnosed eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, eating disorder not otherwise specified) of 50 girls and 4 boys aged 11-21 years randomized to an 8-week trial of standard care vs. individualized yoga plus standard care, researchers filed the following results
1. Yoga participants demonstrated greater decreases in eating disorder symptoms, according to Eating Disorder Examination(EDE)
2. Both groups maintained current BMI levels and decreased in anxiety and depression over time.
3. Eating Disorder Examination(EDE) was back to baseline after the 12 week lessons.

Dr. Carei TR, the led author said, "Individualized yoga treatment decreased EDE scores at 12 weeks, and significantly reduced food preoccupation immediately after yoga sessions". In other words, long term yoga participation may be more effective in treatment of eating disorder.

Additionally, in the testing the effective of yoga in decreasing risk factors, and increasing protective factors, for eating disorders, even with inconsistent results across studies researchers found that
1. Yoga lesson was a low cost treatment program
2. Yoga may offer promise for the field of eating disorders, including
* Eating disorder prevention can be integrated into ongoing yoga classes
* Yoga can be integrated into eating disorder prevention program with patients already in standard care

Dr. Neumark-Sztainer D said, "Regarding treatment, it is important to examine the effectiveness of different teaching styles and practices for different eating disorders".

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that yoga as low cost program may have a profound and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of eating disorder. Unfortunately, most studies observed have weaknesses in their designs (e.g. observational design, no control groups, or small sample sizes) and not consistent across studies, further studies, using stronger study designs, such as randomised, controlled trials, are needed.

Food Therapy: Beet, the Best functional Food in Exhibited Hepatoprotective Effects

Kyle J. Norton

Beet may be considered as a functional food to protect liver against any forming of liver disorders a renowned institute proposed.

Liver diseases are class of disease characterized by disordered function of liver, including cirrhosis, hepatitis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, non alcoholic liver disease, non-infectious liver diseases, benign liver tumor, liver cancer,......

Beet, best known as beetroot or garden beet, belonging to the amaranth family, is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.

According to Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Beta vulgaris Linn. (BV, Chenopodiaceae) leaves extract showed a significant effect in protect liver against hepatoxicity, measured by levels of serum markers enzymes together with antioxidants.

In vitro studies, n-butanol fraction of BV leaves (BVBF) isolated from beet, at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg exhibited liver protective action against ethanol-induced hepatic toxicity by restorating of biochemical changes in liver tissues.

Furthermore, in carbontetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced liver toxicity injured rats, oral administrated ethanolic extract of Beta vulgaris roots exerted a profound hepatoprotective activity at doses of 1000, 2000 and 4000 mg/kg.

Moreover, in the finding of new phytochemicals isolated from beetroot, researchers found that vitexin 7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), and vitexin 2''-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, the new compounds also exhibited hepatoportective effect at rates of 65.8 and 56.1%, respectively in rat induced liver toxicity model.

More importantly, others's newly differentiated flavonoids, 2",2"'-di-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-vicenin II, a di-C-glycosyl flavone, and herbacetin 3-O-β-xylopyranosyl- (1"' --> 2")-O-β-glucopyranoside extracted from leaves of beet, once again demonstrated hepatoprotective effects in intoxicated rat by administration of acetaminophen.

Additionally, the newly acquired compounds of above also demonstrated hypolipidemic activity in reduced risk of liver diseases in rats with high-fat-diet.

Taking together, beet is a potent functional food with plenty liver protective phytochemicals used for prevention and treatment of liver disease.
