Food Therapy: Intake Coffee Caffeine >300 mg/day In Increased Risk of Osteoporosis

By Kyle J. Norton

Increased life long intake of coffee caffeine may have a potential effect in reduced bone mineral density in menopause women, a Southern America University opinionated.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, is a drink made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Osteoporosis is a condition of thinning of bone and bone tissues as a result of the loss of bone density over a prolong period of time.

A study to investigate whether increased coffee intake expressed a linear effect in risk of increased ageing bone density of  980 postmenopausal women aged 50 to 98 years (mean age, 72.7 years) in community-based population of older women, Rancho Bernardo, Calif.participated between 1988 and 1991, researchers showed that women drinking coffee without adding milk have a strong effect in risk of osteoporosis, but for women drinking at least one cup of milk a day, coffee caffeine intake do not impede bone density.

Dr. Barrett-Connor E, the lead author said, "Lifetime caffeinated coffee intake equivalent to two cups per day is associated with decreased bone density in older women who do not drink milk on a daily basis".

Other, in the measured the bone density of both hips and the total body in 138 healthy, postmenopausal women aged 55-70 y who  never used hormone replacement therapy, returned reports including current and long-time caffeinated beverage, suggested that with the same anthropometric and nutrient intakescaffeine intake was not associated to osteoporosis regardless numbers of cups drinking per day.

Interestingly, based on brewed beverages chemical analysis, most computer models have over estimated the caffeine intake of prospects by nearly two-thirds.

Base on the finding evidences, Dr. Lloyd T. the lead author said, " the habitual dietary caffeine intake of this cohort of 138 postmenopausal women ranged from 0-1400 mg/d and was not associated with total body or hip bone mineral density measurements".

Furthermore, according to the Creighton University, School of Medicine study of cross-sectional measurements of BMD in 489 elderly women (aged 65-77 y) and from longitudinal measurements made in 96 of these women who were treated with coffee in compared to a placebo for 3 y. showed a nonlinear result of osteoporosis risk increased in women drinking over < or =300 mg/d in compared to low and moderated groups.

The study also specified that, all 3 groups showed some forms of bone density loss, and higher bone density loss is correlated to cups of coffee drinking per day.

Particularly, Dr, Rapuri PB, said, "Intakes of caffeine in amounts >300 mg/d ( approximately 514 g, or 18 oz, brewed coffee) accelerate bone loss at the spine in elderly postmenopausal women".

Taking altogether,  menopause women may have an increased risk of mineral bone density in induction of osteoporosis for drinking  >300 mg/day. Due to conflict results from the above studies, further confirmation with large size and multi centers studies are necessary.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga in Prevention and Treatment of Binge Eating Disorder

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise for prevent and treatment of binge eating disorder, a Catholic University of Leuven study suggested.

Binge eating disorder is a condition characterized by compulsive eating huge amounts of food while feeling out of control and powerless to stop.
The syndrome is a common eating disorder in the United States, affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the review of literature from EMBASE, PsycINFO, PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Physiotherapy Evidence Database and Cochrane Library up to August 2012 for studies compared physical therapy with a placebo condition, control intervention or standard care, including 211 female community patients (age range: 25-63 years) met all selection criteria, researchers found that
1. Yoga participants showed a significantly reduced number of binges
2. Yoga group expressed a decrease of body mass index (BMI)
3. Yoga participants displayed insignificantly ameliorated depression in compared to aerobic exercise and combined aerobic exercise and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) groups

Dr. Vancampfort D, the led author said, " Because of severe co-morbid psychiatric and physical conditions, binge eating disorder is one of the most difficult psychiatric conditions to treat. Both yoga and aerobic exercise have shown promise in reducing binge eating pathology and weight".

Other, also in searching databases of PubMed, PsychInfo, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Library, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, the Dutch Journal of Psychiatry (Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie), het Tijdschrift voor Vaktherapie and Actual Themata derived from psychomotor therapy screened for the period January 1994 to August 2011, 8 studies met the met the inclusion and exclusion criteria suggested that
1. Yoga lessons induced a significant weight loss to attendees
2. Yoga participants displayed fewer symptoms of depression, when used alone or conjunction with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
3. Conbined Yoga and and CBT demonstrated a less eating disorderpathology than does CBT alone

The authors concluded that yoga expressed the beneficial effects on weight-loss as well as on the reduction of binge eating disorder.

More importantly, in a randomised trial undertaken with participants of women between 25 and 63 years of age identified with diagnostic criteria for binge eating disorder (BED) and a BMI>25  assigned to yoga (n=45) or wait-list control (n=45) groups. Of these, 25 in each group were analysed, Dr. McIver S, the led author at the Deakin University filed the following results in compared to control  group
1. Yoga group showed a reduction in binge eating in self-reported
2. Yoga group expressed a statistical significance of more willing to involve in physical activity.
3. Yoga group also showed a small yet statistically significant reductions for BMI, hips and waist

With the information collected, there are no doubt that yoga formal weekly sessions and home-based programs are potentially efficacious for the treatment of binge eating.

Bad news for coffee lovers, the recent study suggested that regular coffee consumptiontion may associate to increased risk of lung cancer.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West, is a drink made from roast bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Lung cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth in the lung. At the later stage, cancer cells may spread to distant tissues and organs.

Dr. Wang Y, the lead author said, "a linear dose-response relationship exists between coffee consumption and risk of lung cancer".

In the clarified risk of coffee in induced lung cancer, the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry conducted a search in the data base of PubMed and Embase, from 1966 to January 2009. In 5 prospective studies and 8 case-control studies involving 5347 lung cancer cases and 104,911 non-cases selected, researchers found that
1. Coffee high amount intake was associated to a significant positive lung cancer risk
2. Risk of lung cancer increased by 14% for additional 2 cups consumed daily.

Interestingly, prospective studies conducted in America and Japan showed a significantly associated with increased risk of lung cancer in highest coffee consumption, but borderline significantly associated with decreased risk of lung cancer in non-smokers in compared to studies conducted from other countries.
And people drinking decaffeinate coffee showed a decreased risk of lung cancer in all studies.

Other, in the review of seventeen studies (5 cohort and 12 case-control studies) involving 12 276 cases and 102 516 controls met the predetermined inclusion criterion, extracted from data base of literature, the total risk of coffee intake and lung cancer incidence was 1.17 in compared to non drinkers.  Also in compared to non drinkers, the relative risk of lung cancer was associated to numbers of cup per day consumed,
1. 1.10 (95% CI: 0.92-1.31) for ⩽1 cup per day,
2. 1.10 (95% CI: 0.93-1.30) for 2-3 cups per day and
3. 1.20 (95% CI: 1.02-1.39) for ⩾3 cups per day.

More importantly, Dr. Xie Y, the lead author said, " Significant associations for high coffee intake with increased risk of lung cancer were observed in men (OR=1.41 95% CI: 1.21-1.63), but not in women (OR=1.16, 95% CI: 0.86-1.56), in American (OR=1.34 95% CI: 1.08-1.65) and Asian populations (OR=1.49 95% CI: 1.28-1.74), but not in European populations (OR=1.12, 95% CI: 0.74-1.67), and in smokers (OR=1.24, 95% CI: 1.00-1.54), but not in nonsmokers (OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.64-1.11)".

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that regular coffee intakes of large amounts is associated linearly in increased risk of lung cancer, particularly in men and smokers.

People who turn to alternative medicine for treatment of disease in avoidance of adverse effects induced by conventional medicine should be patient. In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy even takes longer to ease symptoms, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Inflammation is a natural response of immune system in protect our body against injure and damage induced infection.

Black bean, a small roughly ovoid legume with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae can be bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms. It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

Black or common bean with abundant phytochemicals may be considered as function foods in attenuated pro inflammatory expression induced by immunity during injured, a respectable institute postulated.

In a randomized, controlled, crossover trial of 12 adults with metabolic syndrome (MetS) consumed one of three meals (black bean (BB), fiber matched (FM), and antioxidant capacity matched (AM)) study, researchers found that blood sample collection before (fasting) and five hours after the meal, black bean intake group showed a significant expression of plasma antioxidant capacity and inflammatory cytokins in response to meals differences over time.

This result showed a strong support of black bean intake reduced levels oxidative stress induced inflammation and enhanced production of antioxidants.

Dr. Reverri EJ the lead researcher said, " Inclusion of black beans with a typical Western-style meal attenuates postprandial insulin and moderately enhances postprandial antioxidant endpoints".

In other word, adding portion of black bean may improve insulin resistance and induced anti oxidant activity to modify the risk and treatment of inflammatory metabolic syndrome.

On colon inflammation triggered by high-fat diet (HD)-induced obesity in mice, miced fed with black bean showed a remarkable effect in reduced pro inflammatory expression such as such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6, by attenuating changes associated with HD-induced colon inflammation.

Additionally, black bean fed mice also demonstrated a significant improvement of antioxidant through modulated colon mRNA expression and reduced macrophage infiltration into adipose tissue, causing inflammation.

Further more, Dr. the lead author expressed, " BAB ameliorates HD-induced disorders such as obesity and colitis by improving mucosal barrier protection and reducing endotoxemia, as well as by inactivating NF-κB to decrease the production of proinflammatory cytokines".

Other study in support to the efficacy of black bean in ameliorated inflammation suggested that bean diets reduced not only mRNA expression of exhibited production of colonic inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-9, IFN-γ and IL-17A) and increased anti-inflammatory IL-10 (P< 0·05),but also systemically reduced circulating cytokines (IL-1β, TNFα, IFNγ, and IL-17A, P< 0·05) and dextran sodium sulphate-induced oxidative stress and colitis in animal model.

The finnings suggested that black bean may be used as function food for prevention of inflammation after body injure or damage by reduced levels of pro inflammatory and increased levels of anti inflammatory mytokins.

Food therapy: Coffee and Coffee Caffeine in Attenuated Risk of Liver Fibrosis

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee intake daily and regularly may have a potential impact in reduced risk of hepatic fibrosis during recovery of liver injured, a renowned institute study suggested.

Coffee, second to tea, is a popular and social beverage all over the world, particular in the West,  made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Hepatic fibrosis is profusely and abnormally recovery of wound healing, causing excessive connective tissues build up in the liver.

In a experiment model of induced Liver injury by 28-day of chronic bile duct ligation (BDL) in male Wistar rats with conventional coffee, decaffeinated coffee, or caffeine administered daily, researchers at the joint study reported the following results
1. In compared to conventional coffee, caffeine expressed a significant suppression of most of the changes produced by BDL, particularly in antifibrotic effects
2. All types of coffee displays an elevated antioxidant properties in restored redox equilibrium, thus preventing the elevation of liver enzymes and hepatic glycogen depletion
3. Caffeinated coffee and caffeine exhibited a reduced in increased collagen

In fact, the efficacy of coffee and caffeine in ameliorated risk of liver fibrosis may be attributed to phytochemical compounds in increased antioxidant status and decreased over expression of pro inflammatory cytokins as well as regulating protein in over production of collagen.

Other, in support of the above analysis, researchers in the study to evaluate the antifibrotic properties of coffee in in male Wistar rats with liver damage induced by repeated administration of thioacetamide (TAA).  Oral administration of conventional caffeinated coffee or decaffeinated coffee (CC, DC, respectively) for 8 weeks reported the following results
1. Intake of coffee showed a significant effect in suppression of most of the damage produced by TAA in rat liver
2. Coffee reduced expression of on going experimental cirrhosis by blocking the elevation of the profibrogenic cytokine TGF-β and its downstream effector CTGF in induction of inflammation through increased antioxidant status, regardless to types of coffee and numbers of cup intake per day.

Dr. Arauz J, the lead researcher said, " Various components of coffee that have been related to such a favorable effec(in reduced risk of hepatic fibrosis) include caffeine, coffee oils kahweol, cafestol and antioxidant substances".

Interestingly, the Biophysics and Neuroscience cInfectomics and Molecular Pathogenesis study also reconfirmed that effect of coffee and coffee caffeine in attenuated risk of liver fibrosis were resulted from the following demonstrations
1. Caffeine prevents elevation of liver enzymes in reduced liver tissues damage and over expression of collagen in the rats treated with TAA plus.
2. Caffeine elevated antioxidant properties by restoring the redox equilibrium through reduced lipid peroxidation and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels
3. Reduced proinflammatory initiation.

Taking altogether, coffee and coffee caffeine regardless numbers of cup intake per day illustrated a significant effect in ameliorated risk and progression of  hepatic fibrosis.

Food Therapy: Black Bean, A Potent Functional Food In Reduced Risk of Cancers

By Kyle J. Norton

People who turn to alternative medicine for treatment of disease in avoidance of adverse effects induced by conventional medicine should be patient. In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy even takes longer than six months to ease symptoms, depending to stages of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Intake of black(common) bean and other common bean may associate to reduced  risk and treatment of various type of cancers, a study of renowned institute study suggested.

Cancer is a class of chronic condition characterized by the irregular cell growth in the body organs. Sometime, the cancer cells can spread to other tissues or organs depending to stages of cancer..

Black bean, a small roughly ovoid legume with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae can be bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms. It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

Fermentation product of soybean, black bean, and green bean mixture (BN999), showed a significant effect in inhibited the growth of human breast cancer AU565 cells and prostate adenocarcinoma PC-3 cells without harming the normal human cells.

The study also found that in syngenic BALB/c mice, the mixture(BN999) inhibited the growth of mouse CT-26 colon cancer xenografts, without causing adverse effects.

Further more, BN999, also induced cancer cell death in other mechanisms, such as activated the protein gene involved pro cancer cell apoptosis via cell mediatory activities, including a network of membranous anatomical structure and double membrane-bound organelle.in energy conversion.

Additionally, according the joint study lead by the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, the efficacy of common bean in attenuated cancer risk factors as shown in animal models and  in cell cultures. may also be attributed to other parameters of non-digested compounds like fiber, phenolics, peptides and phytochemicals.

In fact, black (common) bean whole and non-digestible fraction also exhibited anti-proliferative activity and induced apoptosis in vitro and in vivo against colon cancer.

Dr. Rocio Campos-Vega lead author in the joint study also raised the important role of bean fiber and protein of the bean in ameliorated cancer risks, said, " the potential health benefits and bioactivity of beans on tumor inhibition, highlighting studies involving functional compounds, mainly non-digestible fractions that modulate genes and proteins, thereby, unraveling their preventive role against the development of cancer".

Other researchers in evaluation of phytochemicals of black bean against various types of cancers showed that flavonoids and saponins isolated from black bean exerted a strong antioxidant capacity and antiproliferative activity against numbers of cancer cell lines in concentration depend manner.

The study also insisted that depending to days of germination, total phenolic content extracted from seed coats at the 3 days exhibited the strongest effect in inhibited all cancer cell lines proliferation with no cytotoxicity against control cells.

Specifically, chemical compound genistein showed most effective against mammary cancer cells in compared to more related with hepatic and colon cancers in flavonols and saponins.

The findings suggested that black bean may be considered as functional food as well as integrated form of injection for reduced risk and treatment of various types of malignant tumors
