#Healthyfood #Honey Processes Anti #Anxiety Disorder Through Its Anxiolytic Effects In Vivos, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Anxiety disorder is a class of medical conditions associated with chronic worries and fear, leading to symptoms of a fast heart rate and shakiness.
Most people with anxiety may experience the feeling of nervousness in responding to events such as a problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision.

According to the statistics, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in Canada, and approximately 1 in every 8 Canadians is affected by the illness. In other words, over 250,000 people in Canada suffer from anxiety.

Family history, gender (women are more likely diagnosed with the condition compared to men), chronic stress, people with traumatic life experiences, and the use of substances are some prevalent risk factors of anxiety.

However, some researchers suggested that widespread anxiety disorder probably is correlated with the onset of obesity over the past few decades. In fact, over 68% of Americans are either overweight or obese.

Dr. Lykouras L, the lead scientist in the concerns of obesity risk of anxiety disorder wrote, "
Obesity has been associated with anxiety disorders as follows: most of the studies show a positive relationship with panic disorder, mainly in women, with specific phobias and social phobias. Some authors have found a relationship with generalized anxiety disorder but a negative relationship has been also reported. Only a few studies have found the association between obesity and agoraphobia, panic attacks, and posttraumatic stress disorder".

And, "Anxiety is also a common trait in personality disorders. There is no single personality type characteristic of the morbidly obese, they differ from the general population as their self-esteem and impulse control are lower. Obese patients present with passive-dependent and passive-aggressive personality traits, as well as a trend for somatization and problem denial".

The finding strongly suggested in some aspects anxiety can be a cause of obesity and vice versa.

Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid is considered one healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener.

Researchers on finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of anxiety disorder with no side effects evaluated the antioxidant and anxiolytic-like effect of Tualang honey in stressed ovariectomized (OVX) rats.

The study included animals divided into 6 groups, (i) nonstressed sham-operated control rats, (ii) sham-operated control rats exposed to stress, (iii) nonstressed OVX rats, (iv) OVX rats exposed to stress, (v) OVX rats exposed to stress and treated with 17 β-oestradiol (E2) (20 μg daily, sc), and (vi) OVX rats exposed to stress and treated with Tualang honey (0.2 g/kg body weight, orally).

Before the treatment of Tualang honey, OVX rats showed a significantly increased anxiety-like behavior due to increased stress, compared to other groups. Injection of either Tualang honey or E2 significantly decreased anxiety-like behavior.

Honey treatment rats demonstrated reduced levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl (PCO) which are biomarkers of oxidative stress.

Furthermore, the levels/activities of antioxidant enzymes produced by the rats such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione S-transferases (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR) were significantly increased in the brain homogenates of treated stressed OVX groups compared to untreated stressed OVX.

The finding strongly supported that honey processed the anxiolytic activity in the animal model.

Dr. Badriya Al-Rahbi, the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders said, "Tualang honey has protective effects against brain oxidative stress and may be a useful alternative anxiolytic agent, especially for postmenopausal women.

Taken altogether, honey, particularly Tualang honey may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of anxiety disorder, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.
