#Healthyfood #Garbanzobeans(#Chickpeas) in the Promotion of #BowelHealth, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in the prevention, management, and treatment of diseases has played an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over the world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Garbanzo bean also known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer and the family Fabaceae, high in protein and minerals. It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to the Middle East.

People who follow a typical American diet may express a specific problem in bowel movement, as a result of consuming high saturated fat, salt, sugar....... and less fiber. According to the University of Tasmania, diet not only affects food choice, and satiety but also has a profound influence on bowel health. 15 participants in the study tended to eat more processed snack foods (high energy, low fiber) after ceasing chickpea consumption(1).

In 27 free-living adults who followed two randomized, crossover dietary interventions each of five weeks duration, Dr. Pittaway JK and the research team said,"... significant decrease in serum TC and LDL-C during the chickpea diet compared to the equivalent fiber wheat diet was partly due to unintentional changes in macronutrient intake occurring because of chickpea ingestion"(2).

The effect of chickpeas in the promotion of bowel health may be the result of the high amount of dietary fiber found in the peas. The study of the effectiveness of probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary fiber in the treatment of FGD in the pediatric population, suggested that the administration of a fiber supplement is more effective than a placebo for the treatment of childhood constipation(3).

In fact, Fiber undergoes partial or total fermentation after conscription in the distal small bowel and colon leading to the production of short-chain fatty acids and gas, thereby affecting gastrointestinal function and sensation, the University of Michigan Health System, insisted(4).

Taking it all together, people who eat a portion of chickpeas daily may improve their gastrointestinal function, regardless of the type of diet.
