#Greentea's #Catechins Inhibit the Risk of Diseases Associated with #ChronicInflammation, Researchers Find

By Kyle J. Norton

The good news for people with chronic inflammatory diseases, green tea polyphenols (GrTPs) is found to reduce the risk and progression of the diseases through the exhibition of potent antioxidants in regulating vital signaling pathways involved in the production of inflammatory cytokines. a renowned institute study suggested

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine, or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "excessive yin syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory. Adding a slice of ginger to each drink will attenuate the expression.

Chronic inflammation diseases are medical conditions caused by the overreaction of the immune system in protection against microbial invasion and damage to organs due to injury, affecting the tissue healing process, which can lead to life-long debilitation and loss of tissue function, and organ failure.

According to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, green tea phytochemical polyphenols protected our body against inflammation through actions in intercepted the surge of inflammatory markers like cytokines and the production of cyclooxygenase-2 in innate anti-inflammatory cytokines.

In chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients, catechin isolated from green tea enhanced the antioxidant production such as glutathione peroxidases (GPO) and glutathione (GSH), in significantly inhibited excessive oxidative stress through direct or indirect in reducing the oxidative damages to the colon.

Dr. Fan FY, the lead author said, "Catechins can exert their significant anti-inflammatory properties by regulating the activation or deactivation of inflammation-related oxidative stress-related cell signaling pathways( involved proinflammation specifically)".

Particularly, the study also specified the impression of antioxidant catechin in stabilizing the structure of the gastrointestinal micro-ecological environment via promoting the proliferation of beneficial intestinal bacteria and regulating the balance of intestinal flora for induction of relief in patients with IBD.

Furthermore, in a psoriasis mouse model, BALB/c mice topically treated with IMQ for 6 consecutive days, displayed a significant alleviated psoriasiform dermatitis, improved the skin pathological structure by reducing the expression of epidermal PCNA(Base cells) and promoted the expression of caspase-14 involved in inflammation.

In fact, according to the study, the efficacy of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), for treatment of
psoriasis-like inflammation is the result of the phytochemical functions in anti-inflammatory, immune regulatory, and antioxidant activation.

Taken together, green tea may be used as a protectively functional food in the prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, but a regular large amount of injection should be avoided to prevent toxicity.
