Alternative Therapy: Yoga In Improved Psychological and Physical Aspects in Cancer Patients and Survivors

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga therapy may be used as secondary therapy and integrated form of exercise to improve physical and emotional well-being.of cancer patients and survivors, a US university study suggested.

Cancers are the class of disease characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the body.

Yoga, the ancient practical technique  for harmonized external and internal body well-being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the review literature of general introduction to yoga and detailed of yoga research in cancer, 9 selected studies satisfied the criteria indicated that yoga therapy yielded modest improvements in sleep quality, mood, stress, cancer-related distress, cancer-related symptoms, and overall quality of life in cancer patients and survivors.

Furthermore, the study also addressed that the analysis of the selected studies also expressed the efficacy of yoga in support for the feasibility cancer patients.

In deed, yoga practice with breathing and meditation was found to express a significant effect in induction of relaxation and calmness of central nervous system, thus reducing psychological symptoms caused by chronic stress by bring back the presence while dealing them in a positive way.

Additionally, long term yoga participated also found to restore the hormone imbalance caused by central nervous system in stimulated over production of certain hormones involved stress expression.

More interestingly,  the study of 8 pediatric cancer out-patients (4 male; 4 female; Mage  = 11.88, SD = 4.26) participated in the 12-week intervention consisting of supervised yoga sessions 2 times/week to determine the feasibility and benefits of a 12-week community-based yoga intervention on health-related quality of life (HRQL), select physical fitness outcomes and PA levels (PAL) with participants (patients and parent proxies) completed measures assessing HRQL, physical fitness and PAL at baseline and post-intervention, suggested that 12 weeks of yoga program displayed significant improvements in patients' parent reported HRQL, including, functional mobility, hamstring flexibility and total PA level (P = 0.02) in compared to pre intervention.

The improvements of physical fitness was attributed to yoga postures in enhanced stretching of muscle strength as well as promoted blood circulation.

Interestingly, the 12 weeks lesson also enhanced physical fitness in pediatric cancer out-patients as well as improving sedentary behavior as yoga program was found to utilize as a ‘stepping-stone’ toward regularly physical activity and the associated co-morbidities through balancing the expression of hyper-arousal or hypo-arousal of the nervous system in reaction to stress.

Dr. Wurz A, the led authors said, "Increasing rates of survival present a new set of psycho social and physical challenges for children undergoing treatment for cancer. Physical activity (PA) has been shown to be a safe and effective strategy to mitigate the significant burden of cancer and its treatments, with yoga increasingly gaining recognition as a gentle alternative".

Amazingly, according to the study of the effect of therapeutic yoga on child and parental reports of quality of life in children hospitalized with oncological diagnoses conducted a study of Six children participated in 5 yoga sessions over 2 months with The PedsQL 4.0 administered to each child and participating parent/caregivers at baseline, showed that physically, yoga therapy displayed a statistically significant differences in child perception of gross motor function through developing balance and flexibility in controlled body's movements.

Taking altogether, yoga may be used as secondarily therapeutic practicing in combined with standard treatment for improvement of psychological and physical aspects in cancer patients and survivors.

Lentils Antioxidants in Reduced ROS Over Expression in Induction of Acute and Chronic Inflammatory Diseases

Kyle J. Norton

Lentils may have a potential effect in inhibited free radicals expression in reduced risk and treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases, some researcher opinionated.
Lentil is a type of pulse and tiny legumes that can be cooked quickly and rich in protein and fiber, is a bushy annual plant of genus Lens to the Fabaceae family, native to Middle East.

Antioxidants are types of chemical compound inhibited the expression of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species to protect the body against oxidative damage.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are key signaling molecules played an important role in generation by polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) to induce progression of inflammatory disorders and  cytotoxicity in tumor cells. Over expression of ROS and decreased antioxidant persistence also may cause endothelial dysfunction and tissue injury in the inflammatory sites.

According to the investigation of  lentil (Morton) extract protective effect on cardiac hypertrophy,  one of the most significant sequelae of cardiovascular diseases suggested that high phenolic compounds (43.4 mg of GAE/g), including thirteen phenolic acid and two flavonoids found in the acetone/water/acetic acid lentil extract express a significant effect in attenuated Ang II-induced rat in elevated contraction of blood vessels to cause hypertension and human cardiomyocytes hypertrophy, the loss of contractile mass from prior infarction through activated antioxidant activities in  decreased intracellular ROS levels.

ROS elevation and in decreased levels of antioxidant have shown to increase oxidative stress in stimulated lipid peroxidation in induction of endothelial cells damage and promoted lipid accumulated in the inner wall of arteries, through their effects on inflammation, disturbed blood flow and arterial wall remodeling.

Lentils antioxidant properties in the experiment of measurement of injection effects of  2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) in reduced antioxidant power in oxygen radical absorbing capacity, in vitro  containing different groups of phenolic compounds also exerted the ability to inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species, superoxide anion through chelating metal ions or inhibiting ROS -related enzyme expressions.

Further more, the analysis of free redical scavegening activities of methanolic extracts of the seed coat and the cotyledon of two varieties of lentils (Lens culinaris L.) and two varieties of dark peas (Pisum sativum L.), suggested that the deed coat of lentils scored a huge antioxidant capacities
in compared to the cotyledon in lentils and peas through the significantly higher levels of phenolic compounds with flavonoid structure.

More interestingly, the evaluation of phenolic extracts from 20 Canadian lentil cultivars (Lens culinaris) for total phenolic contents and composition, antioxidant activities (DPPH, FRAP, ORAC), and inhibitory properties against α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase suggested that phenolic compounds identified including the majority being flavonoids, kaempeferol glycosides, catechin/epicatechin glucosides and procyanidins not only demonstrate significantly antioxidant activities, but also express a strong inhibition of of α-glucosidase and lipase activities associated with glucose and lipid metabolism in the intestine.

Dr. Florinda Fratiannia, in the study of phenolic contents and antioxidant activities of grass pea (Lathyrus sativus), lentil (Lens culinaris), and chickpea (Cicer arietinum) cultivars from the Campania region of Southern Italy, postulated, "Lentils (cv Colliano and San Gerardo) demonstrated the highest antioxidant activity, (EC50 not higher than 2.3 mg/g), confirming that lentils are an excellent antioxidant food" and " these legumes can be considered therapeutic functional foods due to their significant content of functional proteins and carbohydrates and their extraordinary reserve of secondary metabolites and bioactive constituents that are beneficial for managing and preventing several chronic illnesses in humans".

People who are susceptible or at higher risk of infection may want to add some portions of lentils into
their diet to ameliorated ROS precipitation of inflammation.

The information findings suggested that lentils with huge numbers of phytochemicals may be considered as a function food in stimulated antioxidant expression through immune system in fighting against foreign invasion and prevented ROS over production in induction of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Food Therapy: Lentils (Legumes) Intake in Improvement of Diet Quality

Kyle J. Norton

Intake of lentils frequently and daily may have a substantial and positive effect in improved diet quality, recent recommendation and guidance suggested.

Lentil, a type of pulse or tiny legumes that can be cooked quickly and rich in protein and fiber is a bushy annual plant of genus Lens to the Fabaceae family, native to Middle East.

The differentiation of lentils in improvement of diet quality may be observed through several different aspects and implications.

According to the review of published medical literature online of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library for relevant controlled trials of >or=7 days, dietary non-oil-seed pulses (chickpeas, beans, peas, lentils, etc.) are a good source of slowly digestible carbohydrate, fibre and vegetable protein and a valuable means of lowering the glycaemic-index (GI) of the diet.

Further examination of the selected trials and studies satisfied the criteria and guideline of 41 trials (39 reports), found that studies using pulses alone (11 trials demonstrated a significant effect in reduced fasting blood glucose (FBG)  and improved insulin levels, in compared to pulses in low-GI diets (19 trials) in lowered glycosylated blood proteins (GP), expressed blood glucose to the red blood cells, observed by HbA(1c)  in measurement of three-month average plasma glucose concentration or fructosamine, in measurement of glucose levels over the previous 2-3 week and pulses in high-fibre diets (11 trials) lowered FBG and GP.

Observation of the  outcomes of the trials and studies obtained indicated a significant effect of pulses in high-fibre diets in reduced risk of over expression of glucose levels in the tested subjects in compared to other 2 groups.

After taking into account of other con founders such as high inter-study quality and unexplained outcomes, Dr. Mitchell DC, the lead author said, "Pooled analyses demonstrated that pulses, alone or in low-GI or high-fibre diets, improve markers of longer term glycaemic control in humans, with the extent of the improvements subject to significant inter-study heterogeneity".

According to the recommendation of The US Department of Agriculture's (New) MyPyramid guidelines, in doubling dietary intake for vegetables, particularly, in subgroups of vegetables, including dry beans, peas and lentils.

Even through, dry beans, peas and lentils were found to contain a rich source of nutrients and phytochemicals that have been shown to have beneficial health effects by numbers of respectable institutes and recommended by health advocates, but consumption levels in the United States are quite low.

The review from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NHANES) found that only 0.9% of adolescents, 2.2% of adult men, and 3.5% of adult women met their dietary guidelines for both fruits and vegetables in compared to the EU-28, with average a third (34.4 %) of the population aged 15 or over did not consume any fruit or vegetables in a day; half (51.4 %) the population ate daily from 1 to 4 portions of fruit and vegetables, while the residual 14.1 % consumed more than 5 portions a day.

In the study to assess nutrient and food group intakes of dry bean and pea consumers compared to non consumers using data of dietary intake from the 1999-2002 of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for adults aged > or =19 years, researchers surprisingly found that only 7.9% of adults are consuming dry beans and peas everyday. Dry beans or peas intake showed a significant biber, protein, folate, zinc, iron, and magnesium levels and lowering saturated fat and total fat consumption.
Most Mexican Americans or other Hispanics are more likely to be consumers than non consumers.

After in depth differentiation of the data, Dr.Mitchell DC, the lead scientist said, "These data support the specific recommendation for dry beans and peas as part of the overall vegetable recommendation" and "Increased consumption of dry beans and peas-economical and nutrient-rich foods-could improve the diet quality of Americans".

Taken together, there is no doubt that lentil and other dry beans and peas diet may have a substantial effect in improved diet quality to population in all nations.

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea Bioactive Polyphenols In Reduced Weight Gain and Promoted Weight Loss

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Green tea polyphenols may have a therapeutic effect in reduced weight gain through decreased hormone expression with function direct influence of excess energy deposit, some scientists opinionated.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Weight gain is an increase in body weight, involved an increase in muscle mass, fat deposits, excess fluids.

In the compared green tea, polyphenols [epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC)] in decoction of green tea leaves versus usual green tea extracts to evaluate the effect in weigh gain in obese animal models fed with high fat diet, researchers after taking into account of other con-founders suggested that green tea decoction  acute administration of GTD with 2/3 EGCG+1/3 EGC inhibited SGLT-1 activity involved distinct and complementing glucose homeostasis through absorbing glucose from the diet in the small intestine and by reabsorbing the filtered glucose in the tubular system of the kidney, thus reducing access energy being converted to glycogen or fat and deposit in liver, muscles and fat cells.

Additionally, green tea decoction not only improved glucose tolerance but also demonstrated a significant increase GLUT2 protein in facilitated glucose movement across cell membranes in the regulation of glucose absorption in distribution of dietary sugar to tissues to induce calorie restriction.

Chronic administration of green tea decoction GTD for 6 weeks, in the same experiment models also displayed a huge reduction of body weight gain, circulating triglycerides and cholesterol and improved glucose tolerance, through significantly reduced SGLT-1 as seen in acute application and and increased GLUT2 mRNA levels in the jejunum mucosa with function in increase the surface area of tissue available to absorb nutrients from ingested foodstuffs for decreased fat accumulation and glucose in liver.

Dr. Snoussi C, the lead auhtor said, "GTD-treated rats for 6 weeks display significantly reduced SGLT-1 and increased GLUT2 mRNA levels in the jejunum mucosa". This result showed that green tea decoction with polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC) may have a certain effect in reduced weight gain through decreased fat deposit in the liver and promoted calorie restriction.

Further analysis of C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HF/HS, 32% energy from fat; 25% energy from sucrose) or the same diet supplemented with 0.25% GTP or BTP or a low-fat/high-sucrose (LF/HS, 10.6% energy from fat, 25% energy from sucrose) diet for 4 weeks showed that treatment with decaffeinated green tea (GT)  polyphenols inhibited weight gain in mice fed an obesogenic diet as indicated above, through the rearrange the relative proportions of Blautia, Bryantella, Collinsella, Lactobacillus, Marvinbryantia, Turicibacter, Barnesiella, and Parabacteroides in correlated with weight loss by a decrease of cecum Firmicutes and increase in Bacteroidetes in the gastrointestinal tract.

In deed, GTP not only induced weight loss in association with alteration of the gut microbiota but also increased hepatic AMPK in reaction in sugar metabolism, and energy storage and release.

Interestingly, according to the START Clinic for the Mood and Anxiety Disorders, oral administration of green tea extract induced an unexpected decrease in total body fat mass, a decrease in body fat percentage and an increase in lean body mass in patients with weight gain induced by psychotropic medications.

Taken together, green tea, bioactive active polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC) may be used as functional food in reduced weight gain induced by all sources and increased weigh loss through regulation of energy metabolism in fat accumulation.

Food Therapy: Lentils' Lectin as Bio-makers and Potential Target in Risk and Treatment of Prostate Cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Lectin isolated from lentils and other sources may have a substantial effect used for treatment of cancers and as a new type of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets to detect the state and progression of prostate cancer, some scientists suggested.

Lentil, a type of pulse or tiny legumes that can be cooked quickly and rich in protein and fiber is a bushy annual plant of genus Lens the Fabaceaefamily, native to Middle East.

Prostate cancer is a chronic and medical condition characterized by cell growth irregularly in the prostate tissues.

Use of lectins with properties of recognizing specific carbohydrate moieties of glycoconjugates (for
carbohydrates covalently linked with other chemical species such as proteins, peptides, lipids and saccharides) as cancer screening technique and biomarkers to indicate altered structural changes of glycans in complex bodily fluids and tissues of cancer have been under extensive research.

According to the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology 4, in a designed to distinguish prostate cancer and benign prostate hyperplasia by lectin-prostate specific antigen (PSA) binding found that lectin-prostate specific antigen (PSA) binding may be an effective tool in reduced performance of biopsies in men with total PSA value between 4.0 to 10.0 micog/ml, through examine the carbohydrate content after binding of Con A (lectin) with serum PSA of prostate cancer.

In other words, the detection of a serum value <3.0 microg/ml of the carbohydrate content of Con A-PSA expression was an strong indication of benign prostate hyperplasia with suspicion for prostate cancer and this cut off level in compared to prostate cancer rate of over 4.0 micog/ml.

The evaluate lectins role in influence the cell growth of several types of normal and neoplastic tissues, particularly in prostate cancer cells with numbers of lectins, such as peanut (PNA), wheat germ (WGA), Concanavalin A (Con A),Griffonia simplicifolia (GSA-IA4), and Phaseolus vulgaris(PHA-L) agglutinins, on the cell proliferation of one androgen-sensitive (LNCaP) and two androgen-insensitive (PC-3 and DU 145) human prostate cancer cell lines cultured in either 10% or 1% fetal bovine serum (FBS)-supplemented media, at the joint study lead by the Free University of Brussels, showed that all 5 experiment lectins expressed a globally significant effect in inhibited all tested prostate cancer cell lines proliferation in dose-dependent toxicity.

However, further examination also found that application of low doses of GSA-IA4 and PHA-L demonstrated a contradictory result in significantly increased cell proliferation of confluent PC-3 cells and increasing the FBS from 1% to 10% in the culture media significantly antagonized lectin-induced toxicity in the three prostate cell lines, according to the measurement of 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay.

The  contradictory results in influence on prostate cancer cell proliferation, probably was attributed to types of lectin isolated and doses exposure.

After taking into account of other con-founders, Dr. Isabelle Camby, the lead author concerned, "because lectins are present in our diet, and are able to pass into the systemic circulation and thus reach the prostate, the present results suggest that some lectins might exert an influence on prostate cancer growth under clinical conditions".

Taken together, lectins isolated from lentils and other sources may be considered as screen technique in detect the state of progression of cancer through levels of total lectin-prostate specific antigen (PSA) concentration and used as biomarkers and therapeutic target for treatment of prostate cancer.

Alternative Therapy:Yoga In Reduced Psychological symptoms in HIV-1 Infected Patients

Kyle J. Norton

Yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise in reduced psychological symptoms of anxiety and depression.in patients with Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals, randomized controlled pilot studies suggested.

Yoga, the ancient practical technique for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus with function in induced acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, if not treated.

According to the Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYASA) University study with an aim to contribute towards the understanding the therapeutic benefits of specific yoga modulation in HIV-1 infected subjects, yoga participated group displayed an indirect effect of HIV-1 induced hematopoietic inhibition of CD34+ progenitor stem cells, a hematopoietic progenitor cells found in bone marrow and cord blood with loss of human hematopoietic precursor cell function, via the CD4+ T lymphocytes in signalling immune response to destroy the infectious particle.

In other words, yoga practice normalized the inhibition of replication and enhancement of levels of hematopoiesis in HIV-1 infected subjects, through infected of CD34+ progenitor stem cells by activated immune action.

The hematopoietic stem cell has long been hypothesized to be a target of human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV) infection.

Additionally, Yoga participant also showed to improve the self renewal capacity of numbers of cycles of cell division while maintaining the undifferentiated state to differentiate into CD34+ progenitor cells, through STAT5 gene in activatedhematopoietic cytokines in modulates cytokine responses, including nterleukin-2 and 15,  transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in development of Tregs in immune regulation.

CD34+, undifferentiated biological cells that can differentiate into specialized cells and can divide (through mitosis) to produce more stem cells.

Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a secreted protein in regualted cellular process including the control of cell growth, cell proliferation, cell differentiation and apoptosis.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha, TNFα, cachexin, or cachectin) is a cell signaling cytokine involved in systemic inflammation in the acute phase infection.

Interleukin-2 and 15 are cell signaling proteins in the immune system in regulated the activities of white blood cells of the immunity.

More interesting, in psychological aspects, yoga induced hematopoietic inhibition in HIV-1 infection was contributed by the role of reduced stress involved sycho-neuro-immunological axis (PNI), the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body in induction of psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression and quality of life

In deed, physical postures (asanas), breathing practices (pranayama), relaxation techniques, and meditation have shown to bring back consciousness in the present moment and increased the ability to maintain or positive feelings to minimize or regulate stress feelings or letting them go, thus decreasing stress effect in suppressed body's immune system and neuro-humoral actions in transmitting information from cells to cells, thereby affecting normal psychological state.

Additionally, researchers at the study also said, "Yoga therapy is introduced and its effectiveness in terms of evidence in relevant area is reviewed. Further, the basic principles of Integrated Approach of Yoga Therapy [IAYT] are described and depending on the potential mechanisms through which yoga therapy may act, both modern scientific research and ancient "scriptural" evidence are provided at all the five levels of existence (body, life force, emotional, intellectual and bliss)" and "This will enable to design comprehensive yoga modules that may intervene in this indirect inhibition of hematopoiesis in HIV-1 infected individuals and potentially restore normal levels of hematopoiesis".

Further more, in a study of 44 HIV-1 infected individuals from two HIV rehabilitation centers of Manipur State of India randomized into two groups: Yoga (n = 22; 12 males) group received IY intervention, which included physical postures (asanas), breathing practices (pranayama), relaxation techniques, and meditation,  given 60 min/day, 6 days a week for 1 month and Control group (n = 22; 14 males), followed daily routine during this period, researchers found that yoga group showed a significant reduction in depression scores along with non significant increment in CD4 counts in surface of the immune cells but non-significant reduction in anxiety scores in compared to control group.

An at the end of the experiment, researchers concluded that short term yoga participated may have a positive effect in reduced depression and improved immunity in HIV-1 infected adults.

Taking altogether, Yoga intervention as an adjunct therapy may have a profound effect in reduced  psychological symptoms and treatment of inhibited hematopoiesis in HIV-1 infected individuals by regulating the immune function in restore normal function of hematologists in production of blood cells and platelets.

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea and Green Tea Bioactive Catechins and Epigallocatechin Gallate in Reduced Risk and Progression and Treatment of Kidney Cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a substantial and sustainable effect in reduced risk and treatment of renal cancer, some scientists suggested.

Kidney cancer is medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the issues of kidney. At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.

According to statistic, kidney cancer is very uncommon in people younger than age 45 and among the 10 most common cancers in both gender.

Investigation of green tea effect in risk of renal cancer was found to associate to different implications involved numbers of mechanisms, particularly, in green tea bioactive components.

According to the evaluated 250 newly diagnosed, histo-logically confirmed Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) cases and 299 sex-, age-matched healthy controls provided complete information by face-to-face interview in Shanghai between 2007 and 2009, application of green tea at dose of ≥500 ml/d demonstrated a significantly inverse association to risk of CCRCC.

In deed, green tea consumption of lower than the said volume such as 8 oz (237 ml) or more cups/day was also associated to decrease renal cell cancer risk, in compared to non drinkers, according to the report of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Further analysis also found that interactions with the environmental exposures association to polymorphisms of the xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes in induced CCRCC risk, also inhibited by green tea extract through increasing serum and liver antioxidant capacity and strengthening stability of microsomal and lysosomal membranes of healthy cells in compared to control.

In free radical aspect, the examine Wistar rats induced renal cancer pre-treated with N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylnitrosamine (EHEN) by oral injection of drinking water for 2 weeks, also found that administration of green tea extract catechin ( 0.1% polyphenon-60) over 30 weeks of period of treatment exhibits a significant effect in decreased the incidence of renal cell tumors greater than 3 mm in diameter but not tumors that are less than 3 mm in diameter, through over expression of antioxidant in suppression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylnitrosamine (EHEN) pre-treatment.

Importantly, in alternated gene expression in increased prevalence of cancer in human subjects,
application of green tea polyphenol, catechins have been reported to reverse change of DNA methylation in contributed to the tumor repressive gene of RGS2 (regulator of G-protein signaling 2) in modulated expression of cancers and increased the regulation of conversion of DNA to RNA (transcription) of these genes in ameliorated risk of renal and other cancer(s).

Further more, application of the combination of green tea extract bioactive catechins and epigallocatechin gallate also showed to modulate DNA methylation by attenuating the effect of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) to ensure the fidelity of replication of inherited epigenetic patterns.

Aberrant DNA methylation patterns are associated with increased prevalence of  renal and other tumor(s).

Taken together, Green Tea and its polyphenols bioactive compound catechins and epigallocatechin gallate may have a potential and therapeutic effect in reduced risk and treatment of renal cancer through antioxidants and anti gene alternative activities.
