Plant-Based Betanin Protects Liver Injury Against Toxicity

By Kyle J. Norton

Liver injury is some forms of trauma that reduced the liver function including acute toxicity such as an overdose of medicines, a blunt force, a penetrating foreign object such as a knife.

According to the statistic, liver injuries account for 5% of all traumas. In other words, liver injury is a common abdominal injury.

The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body, played an essential role in filtering blood from the intestine before passing them to other parts of the body.

The organ also produced cholesterol, a waxy substance which is needed to aid digestion and build strong cell membranes, production of steroid hormones and vitamins.

Most common symptoms associated with liver injury are shocks due to severe bleeding inducing a rapid heart rate, rapid breathing, and cold, clammy, pale or bluish skin.

In some cases, blood accumulated in the abdomen may irritate the abdominal tissue, leading to symptoms of abdominal pain and swollen and tenderness.

Depending on the size of the wound, most cases of liver injury are healed by itself. However, in severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary if the bleeding does not stop.

Out of many risk factors, an overdose of medicine has been found to be the number 1 factors involved in liver injury.

Dr.Stefan David, the lead scientist wrote, "Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is common and nearly all classes of medications can cause liver disease. Most cases of DILI are benign, and improve after drug withdrawal".

However, "There are no definite risk factors for DILI, but pre-existing liver disease and genetic susceptibility may predispose certain individuals. Although most patients have clinical symptoms that are identical to other liver diseases, some patients may present with symptoms of systemic hypersensitivity. Treatment of drug and herbal-induced liver injury consists of rapid drug discontinuation and supportive care targeted to alleviate unwanted symptoms".

Betanin is phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments of Betacyanins, belongings to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.

On finding a natural compound for the prevention of liver injury, researchers at the Shenyang University investigated the protective effect of betanin against liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.).

The selected fish were intraperitoneally injected with 20 % (v/v in peanut oil) CCl4 at a volume of 0.5 mL/kg body weight at 20 days, after treatment with 1, 2, and 4 % betanin in fodder throughout the experiment.

Fish treated with CCl4 showed to induce liver CYP2E1 activity associated with reduced function of the liver, oxidative stress, and liver injury, observed by the depleted glycogen storage, increased serum liver damage and stress markers such as aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities.

Compared to CCl4 treated fish, betanin not only reversed all parameters induced by the injection of CCl4 but also increased liver antioxidative capacity observed by the increased glutathione level and superoxide dismutase and catalase activities.

The 2 and 4 % of betanin groups demonstrated a better effect compared to the dose of 1%.

The results strongly suggested that betanin protected the liver against the injury induced by CCl4.

Collectively, researchers said, "the inhibition of CYP2E1 activity and oxidative stress may have significant roles in the protective effect of betanin".

Taken altogether, betanin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of liver injury, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of betanin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Whole Food Ginger, the best for the Treatment of Diarrhea

By Kyle J. Norton

Diarrhea, a very common condition found in the infants and children of the third world countries is a gastrointestinal disorder characterized by frequent(3 or 4 times) loose, watery stools a day.

Acute diarrhea, healed by its own is a common problem caused by viruses that may last in a few days. Most common causes of acute diarrhea are rotavirus in children and norovirus in adults.

Persistent diarrhea lasts more than 4 weeks is considered chronic diarrhea.

Chronic diarrhea is a medical condition caused by impaired digestion of fats due to low production of the pancreatic enzymes and impaired absorption of fats due to small intestinal disease, including lactose, sorbitol, and fructose intolerance and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Certain medications such as antibiotics, dietary changes, infected by bacteria or virus are some of the most common factors associated with an increased risk of diarrhea.

The cause of diarrhea normally can be found after a stool sample test.

The American College of Gastroenterology suggested unless the cause is found, patients with diarrhea should avoid dehydration and milk and dairy products should be avoided for 24 to 48 hours.

Patients with bloody diarrhea or severe abdominal pain or diarrhea lasting more than 48 hours.should check with their doctors immediately.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine for the treatment of dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

In the urgency to find a natural ingredient with low cost for the treatment of diarrhea in the third world countries, where diarrhea is common and anti-diarrhea medicines are scarce, and to prevent the disease induced-infant death, researchers examined the ginger effect on Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli heat-labile enterotoxin (LT)-induced diarrhea.

In a mice study, ginger significantly blocked the binding of LT to cell-surface receptor G M1, resulting in the inhibition of fluid accumulation in the closed ileal loops of mice and production of diarrhea.

Further analysis of the chemical constituents in the ginger, researchers found that zingerone (vanillylacetone) was the active constituent responsible for the antidiarrheal efficacy of ginger.

Dr. Chen JC, the lead scientist said, "our findings provide evidence that ginger and its derivatives may be effective herbal supplements for the clinical treatment of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli diarrhea".

In order to clarify the ginger anti-diarrhea activity, researchers at the Kyoto Pharmaceutical University evaluated the acetone extract of ginger at 75 mg/kg p.o against the onset of the condition.

Oral administration of acetone extract of ginger at 75 mg/kg p.o., significantly inhibited 5-HT induced diarrhea in mice model.

The antibacterial effects of ginger against diarrhea were attributed to the presence of [6]-shogoal, [6]-dehydrogingerdione, [8]- and [10]-gingerol.

Take all together, ginger may be considered a functional alternative for the treatment of diarrhea, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Bilberry Protects the Retinal Cells Against Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) in Vitro

By Kyle J. Norton

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of rare, genetic disorders involved a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina.

Retinitis pigmentosa is a disease associated with genetic position involved the mutation of one of more than 50 genes.

As of today, there is no cure for retinitis pigmentosa (RP).

According to the statistics, in the US,  1 in 3,500 individuals are affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP).

The onset of symptoms is generally gradual depending on the seriousness of the stage of the loss of rod photoreceptor cells in the back of the eye or the retinal pigment epithelium of the retina.

At the early stage, patients with RP may only experience symptoms of trouble seeing at night and decreased peripheral vision.

Dr. Stefano Ferrari, the lead scientist in the investigation of RP: genes and disease mechanisms wrote, "Over 40 genes have been associated with RP so far, with the majority of them expressed in either the photoreceptors or the retinal pigment epithelium".

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Researchers on the search of natural compounds for the treatment of poor vision compared the protective effects and mechanism of action of bilberry extract (B-ext) and lingonberry extract (L-ext) and their active components against blue light-emitting diode (LED) light-induced retinal photoreceptor cell damage similar to those of retinitis pigmentosa (RP).

The study included cultured murine photoreceptor (661 W) cells exposed to blue LED light following treatment with B-ext, L-ext, or their constituents (cyanidin, delphinidin, malvidin, trans-resveratrol, and procyanidin B2).

B-ext, L-ext, NAC, and their active components were found to significantly improve the viability of 661 W cells.

The applied compounds also inhibited the generation of intracellular ROS induced by the blue LED light irradiation associated with the similarity of age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa.

Furthermore, B-ext and L-ext inhibited the expression of proteins involved retinal cellular damage due to stimuli.

Moreover, the protein associated with the production of inflammatory cytokines was also inhibited by the injection of B-ext and L-ext.

Additionally, B-ext, L-ext, and NAC inhibited the blue light effect in the activation of caspases associated with retinal cell apoptosis and autophagy.

The findings suggested that bilberry protects against the loss of the retinal cells through a number of mechanisms, including enhancing the antioxidant produced by the host.

Dr. the lead scientist after taking into account of co and confounders wrote in the final report, "-ext and L-ext containing high amounts of polyphenols exert protective effects against blue LED light-induced retinal photoreceptor cell damage mainly through inhibition of ROS production and activation of pro-apoptotic proteins'.

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) by inhibiting the breakdown and loss of cells in the retina, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Tomatoes' Lycopene Inhibits Primary Lung Cancer

By Kyle J. Norton

Primary lung cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the lung.

The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest, with the function of inspiration that takes oxygen from incoming air to the blood and releases carbon dioxide.

In other words, the lung exchanges carbon dioxide from the blood to oxygen.

Furthermore, the lung also filters out a small blood clot, balancing the Ph levels in the body, protecting the body from infection as well as speeching.

According to the statistics, in the US, approximately 228,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019 or 1 in 16 people in the US will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime.

About 60% to 65% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers.

Most cases of lung cancer at the early stage are asymptomatic due to the very small size of the tumor. However, at the later stage, the oversize of the tumor that not only reduces the lung function and press on the nearby nerve cells and blood vessels, leading to symptoms of lung cancer, accompanied with general symptoms shared by other types of cancer.

Most common symptoms of lung cancer include a persistent cough, cough-up blood with rust-colored sputum (spit or phlegm) due to the oversize tumor that has pressed on nearby blood vessels, chest pain due to the oversize tumor that has pressed on the nerve cells and shortness of breath. Feeling tired or weak.

The other lung, adrenal gland, bones, brain, and liver are most common of primary lung cancer metastasis.

Some researchers suggested lung cancer in the US may be correlated to the rise of obesity.

Dr. Khemayanto Hidayat, the lead scientist said, "Several meta-analyses of observational studies have been performed to examine the association between general obesity, as measured by body mass index (BMI), and lung cancer. These meta-analyses suggest an inverse relationship between high BMI and this cancer. In contrast to general obesity, abdominal obesity appears to play a role in the development of lung cancer".

And, "greater WC was associated with increased lung cancer risk among never smokers (RR 1.11; 95% CI 1.00, 1.23), former smokers (RR 1.12; 95% CI 1.03, 1.22) and current smokers (RR 1.16; 95% CI 1.08, 1.25). The summary RRs for highest versus lowest categories of WC and WHR were 1.32 (95% CI 1.13, 1.54; I2 = 18.2%, p-heterogeneity = 0.281) and 1.10 (95% CI 1.00, 1.23; I2 = 24.2%, p-heterogeneity = 0.211), respectively".

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

On finding a natural compound for the treatment of lung cancer, researchers in the cancer team at the Tufts University investigated the effects of tomato's lycopene against tobacco carcinogen 4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) induced lesions in both lungs in an animal model.

The study included elected male ferrets (6 groups, n = 8-10) were treated either with NNK (50 mg/kg BW, i.p., once a month for four consecutive months) or saline with or without dietary lycopene supplementation (2.2 and 6.6 mg/kg BW/day, respectively) for 26 weeks.

Before treatment of lycopene, NNK exposure ferrets showed higher incidences of lung tumors, HCC and steatohepatitis and the elevations in bilirubin and AST levels.

Lycopene supplementation treatment at two doses prevented NNK-induced lung toxicity and inflammation. The expression of levels of CYP2E1 in the liver associated with the metabolism of xenobiotics in the liver was also inhibited by the injection of lycopene.

In other words, lycopene prevented the NNK in the induction of lung and liver damage in the tested animals.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The present study provided strong experimental evidence that the tobacco carcinogen NNK can induce both HCC and steatohepatitis in the ferrets and can be a useful model for studying tobacco carcinogen-associated NAFLD and liver cancer".

Furthermore, in a mouse model associated with colon cancer metastatic to the lungs, Dr. Chattopadhyay A, the lead scientist wrote, "adding 0.06% of Tg6F, but not a control tomato concentrate (EV), to standard mouse chow reduced tumor-associated neutrophils by 94 ± 1.1%, and reduced tumor burden by two-thirds".

Taken altogether, cooked tomatoes processed abundantly bioactive compound lycopene may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of complications caused by oxidative stress, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Cucumber's cucurbitacin B (CuB) Processes Immune Modulatory and Anti-Inflammatory Properties

By Kyle J. Norton

Inflammation is a natural defense of the human body against the invasion of harmful microorganism.

In other words, the immune response of the first line defense macrophages after receiving information about skin or tissues damage from the brain stimulate the production of blood palette to cover the wound and pro-inflammatory cytokines to kill off invaders which may enter the body.

Most cases of the small wound are stoped in the acute phase of infection and the wound starts to heal itself.

In a large wound, some stitches are needed accompanying by the injection of antibiotics.

However, if the inflammation persists due to overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines, it can lead to the death of nearby healthy cells, causing the formation of scars.

In some cases, immune system response may also be compromised with the presence of harmful bacteria or virus due to its inability to kill off all pathogens in a set period of time, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation.

The continued production of pro-inflammatory cytokines over a long-term can result in protein, lipid and cell damage and alternation of cell DNA causing the onset of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Some researchers suggested without knowing more of the nature of the chronic low-grade inflammatory disease, the use of NSAIDs may cause harm to the patients.

Dr. Adler UC in the concerns about the use of NSAIDs for the treatment of chronic low-grade inflammatory disease, explained, "Pro-inflammatory cytokines and their chronic effect - low-grade inflammation - have been associated with diverse chronic conditions".

And, "current data on the role of pro-inflammatory cytokines and that the use of NSAIDs to treat chronic low-grade inflammation can produce a contrary, rebound effect, as anticipated by Hahnemann. By diverting from the "palliative action-rebound effect" course".

The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongings to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.

With an aim to find a natural compound which processes anti-inflammatory property, researchers investigated cucurbitacin B (CuB) effect, a major compound found in cucumber on parameters related to antigen presentation and T-cell activation.

On basal and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation, CuB inhibited significantly the LPS-a expression of MHC II (antigen-presenting cells), CD40, CD54, and CD80 associated with immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM.

Furthermore, injection of CuB also suppressed the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species and blocked the activation of pro-inflammatory mediators, such as nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-12, and IL-1β, without inducing any cytotoxicity.

The finding suggested that CuB possesses immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects against disease involved in inflammation.

In other to reveal more information anti-inflammatory activity of CuB, researchers evaluated the chemical ability to scavenge free radicals such as hydroxyl radical, superoxide anions and singlet oxygen.

According to the tested assays, CuB exerted a broad spectrum radical-scavenging capacity surpasses those of grape-seed extract, wheat, alfalfa, a and ginkgo biloba extracts.

Cucurbitacins not only inhibited lipid peroxidation and oxidation but also exhibited the anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties through their derivatives 23, 24 dihydrocucurbitacin and cucurbitacin.

In other words, CuB inhibited the expression of TNF in macrophages and lymphocytes involved in immune response and the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as nitric-oxide synthase-2 and cyclooxygenase-2.

Dr. Olayinka Oridupa, the lead scientist said, "It is general knowledge among researchers working with natural medicinal products that any of the cucurbitacins have the attributes or the potential to become fully patented as an anti-inflammatory...drug".

Taken altogether, cucumber processed a high amount of CuB may be used for the treatment of inflammation, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of CuB in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Phytochemical Alliin, Protects the Body Against the Increase Levels of Triglyceride(TG) and Total Cholesterol(TC)

By Kyle J. Norton

Fat including cholesterol and triglycerides consists of hydrocarbon molecules.

Cholesterol is the type of fat produced by the liver or from fat intake playing a critical role in the building of strong cell walls, production of vitamin D and steroid hormones and bile acid to aid digestion in the small intestine.

Accessed cholesterol produced by the liver in a healthy individual is returned to the liver by high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

Overexpression of cholesterol levels in the bloodstream has been linked to plaques accumulation on the arterial walls, a major cause of some forms of heart disease and stroke.

The healthy ratio of HDL/LDL cholesterol is any numbers that are less than 1/4.

On the other hand, triglyceride is fat in the blood that comes from the outside source used by the body to convert to energy.

Triglyceride is stored in the fat cells used to produced energy between meal and in the case when food is scarce.

Compared to cholesterol, triglycerides in high levels also associated with the risk of heart disease, particularly in people with high levels of LDL and low levels of HDL.

Evolutionally, fat accumulation is considered a defense mechanism in the human body where excess fat is stored when food is plentiful and release to produce energy when food is scarce.

This defense mechanism has become deadly in Western countries where goods are always plentiful, leading to overweight and obesity in the induction of the onset of various types of chronic disease.

Dr. Karen Kearns, the lead scientist wrote, "Overweight and obesity prevalence was higher in men (43.0% and 16.1%) compared to women (29.2% and 13.4%), respectively. The most prevalent chronic conditions were lower back pain, hypertension, and raised cholesterol. Prevalence of chronic disease generally increased with increasing BMI".

And, "Compared to normal weight persons, the strongest associations were found in obese women for diabetes (RR 3.9, 95% CI 2.5-6.3), followed by hypertension (RR 2.9, 95% CI 2.3-3.6); and in obese men for hypertension (RR 2.1, 95% CI 1.6-2.7), followed by osteoarthritis (RR 2.0, 95% CI 1.2-3.2)".

Alliin (S-allyl-L-cysteine-S-oxide) is a phytochemical compound sulfoxide,. a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, belonging to the class of sulfur compounds, found abundantly in fresh garlic and onion.

On finding a potential compound for the prevention of triglycerides accumulation, researchers examined the effect of alliin on lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells.

According to tested data, injection of 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol (1,3-DCP), a food born hepatoxic chloropropanol contaminant significantly increased intracellular content of triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) at 0.5-2μg/mL.

Furthermore, 1,3-DCP also greatly decreased cyclic AMP (cAMP) level which plays an important role in the regulation of metabolism generally, particularly in fat accumulation in this case.

Moreover, 1,3-DCP also inhibited PKA and AMPK signaling pathway associated with the regulation of cellular energy homeostasis.

Additionally, 1,3-DCP significantly decreased GPR41 and GPR43 expression in brown adipogenesis associated with transfer energy from food into heat.

Collectively, 1,3-DCP enhanced the accumulation of fat in the tissue and inhibited the genes associated with the increase of metabolic efficiency.

Alliin, the most abundant sulfur compound in garlic, reversed all parameters changes caused by 1,3-DCP through its hypoglycemic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.

In other words, alliin protects the body against abnormal lipid deposit caused by 1,3-DCP though its antioxidants, anti-hyperglycemic and anti-inflammatory effects.

In HepG2 cells exposed to 1,3-DCP, alliin exhibited a significantly decreased the increase of triglyceride(TG) and total cholesterol(TC).

Taken altogether, alliin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of fat accumulation with no side effect, responding to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of alliin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Bilberry, the Best for the Prevention and treatment of Hyperglycemia, Human Study Reveal

By Kyle J. Norton

On seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have a whole fruit for the treatment if hyperglycemia, according to studies.

Hyperglycemia is a condition of abnormally high blood glucose, a hallmark of diabetes. Another hallmark of diabetes is insulin resistance.

The condition is caused by insufficient insulin entered the bloodstream due to the gradual died off of beta cells in the pancreas or insulin receptors site clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by immune autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the beta cell in the pancreas, leading to insufficient numbers of beta cells which produce insulin.

As of today, researchers do not know what causes the immune system attacking the beta cells in the pancreas, either they do why some people with the same health condition, some are prone to the disease while others do not.

According to world statistics, the prevalences of diabetes are on the rise with no side of stopping. Among adults over 18 years of age has risen from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014, it may be a result of economic expansion in the Southeast East where people have made more money and abandoned the traditional diet with more on fruits and vegetable.

The World Health Organization said, "The number of people with diabetes has risen from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014" and "Diabetes prevalence has been rising more rapidly in middle- and low-income countries".

The results strongly suggested that diabetes is a disease associated with a poor or unhealthy diet. In other words, people who follow the diet with a high amount of saturated and trans fat, a lot of red mead meats, processed foods and low amounts of fruits and vegetables are at a substantially higher risk of the disease onset.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

With an aim to find a potential compound with no side effects for the treatment of abnormally high blood glucose, researchers investigated how serum hippuric acid changes after a bilberry-enriched diet (BB; high anthocyanin intake) compared to those of other berry diets associated with insulin and glucose metabolism.

The study included 47 individuals with metabolic syndrome randomized to either a BB diet (n = 15), an SRC diet (n = 20) or a control diet (n = 12) for 8 weeks.

According to the LC-QTOF-MS metabolite profiling analysis, injection of BB showed a significant increase of fasting serum hippuric acid correlated with the improvement of fasting plasma glucose concentration and insulin secretion compared to other diet groups.

These improvements were associated with confirmation in the Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study (n = 198).

Additional differentiation of the bilberry antihyperglycemic activity, researchers found that the efficacy was attributed to the abundant anthocyanin in the bilberry fruits in stimulating the function of β-cells in the pancreas.

Dr. de Mello VD, the lead scientists said, "Fasting serum hippuric acid is increased after consumption of anthocyanin-rich bilberries, and may contribute to the beneficial effect of bilberry consumption through its associations with better glycemic control and β-cell function".

Furthermore, in vivo, male Wistar rats with STZ and HFD-induced diabetes fed with or without Vaccinium myrtillus L. leaf (VLE) or PCE for 50 days showed a significant effect on carbohydrate metabolism in diabetic rats.

According to the tested assays, 4 Of the 8 diabetic animals treated with bilberry leaf extract was found to have a normal HbA level. VLE group also showed a significant reduction in blood glucose level compared to the control of diabetic rats.

Dr. Sidorova, the lead scientist, after taking into account co and confounders said, "The set of results that were obtained in the present study reveals lipid-lowering and antioxidant action related to the administration of VLE and PCE in Wistar rats with diabetes, induced by STZ, in combination with a high-carbohydrate diet. VLE to a certain extent also reduced hyperglycemia in diabetic animals".

Taken altogether, bilberry processed abundantly bioactive compound anthocyanin may be considered a functioning remedy for the treatment of hyperglycemia, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.
