Black beans May Process Anti Gastric Cancer Potency, Scientists Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a legume which processes a potential in reducing the risk and treatment of gastric/ stomach cancer.

Gastric cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cells growth in the stomach.

Most cases of gastric cancer start by the DNA alternation in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the stomach. The stage of gastric cancer is depended to how far the cancer cells have penetrated in the deeper tissue of the stomach.

At the advanced stage, invasive cancer can leave the stomach and travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

Most people with primary cancer have an increased risk of secondary cancers of the thyroid and small intestine.

Gastric cancer affects 2.1% of male cancer patients and 1.3% of female cancer patients in Canada.

In the later stages, stomach cancer has a 5-year survival rate of only 23%, meaning that 77% of stomach cancer patients die within 5 years of diagnosis.

The most common causable risk factor of gastric cancer is infection with a common bacteria, H. pylori, which were found to cause ulcers and Inflammatory gastritis,.

Some researchers suggested that long-term untreated pernicious anemia and growth of polyps are also associated with the increased risk of gastric cancer.

In the concerns of a poor diet in the risk of gastric cancer, Dr. Stojanovic J, the lead author at the joint study lead by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore launched an investigation to examine the effects of Mediterranean diet in gastric cancer.

By comparing the different type of diet, Mediterranean diet consists of high consumption of fruit, vegetables, cereals, legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, other seafood, and olive oil lowers the risk of gastric cancer.

The risk gastric cancer increased substantially in participants who follow the Western diet rich in saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed foods.

Black bean is a Small roughly ovoid legume with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongs to the family Fabaceae and can be bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms.

It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

The chemicals constituents of black bean include anthocyanin, (-)-epicatechin, delphinidin, petunidin, flavonols, and malvidin.

Scientists at the Gyeongsang National University School of Medicine in the findings a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer conducted an experiment to evaluate the effect black bean in risk of infection associated to the onset of gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer.

Exposed gastric mucosa to H. pylori, showed a significant increase of gastric mucosal inflammatory cytokine interleukin-8 (Il-8) and reactive oxygen species.

In the infected gastric mucosa, application cation of Anthocyanins exerted a strong anti-oxidative, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties by decreasing H. pylori-induced ROS enhancement.

Furthermore, Anthocyanins protected the gastric cells by inhibiting phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases, which plays an important role involved in directing cellular responses to a diverse array of stimuli, translocation of nuclear factor-kappa B which promotes cell division and survival and Iκβα which blocks the apoptosis in response to death signals activated by proinflammatory cytokines degradation.

Moreover, Anthocyanins also inhibited H. pylori-induced inducible nitric oxide synthases in the promotion of the expression of proinflammation and cyclooxygenase-2 mRNA expression in the alternation of DNA of gastric cells.

The inflammatory IL-8 expression was also found to decrease by 48% after Anthocyanins injection.

In the examine the chemopreventive effects of black soybean extract against human AGS gastric cancer cells, researchers showed that
* The black soybean extract inhibited AGS cell growth in a dose-dependent manner with an IC(50) of 3.69 mg/mL as measured by the MTT assay.

* black soybean extract dose-dependently induced apoptosis of AGS cells.

Additional differentiation found that the effects of black soybean extract in inducing apoptosis were attributed to the activation of proteins associated with programming cell deaths.

The findings suggested black beans could be used as an apoptosis inducer in AGS cells and a natural chemopreventive agent in the treatment of human gastric cancer.

However, further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food or its bioactive compounds during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of black bean anti-gastric cancer possibilities.

Herbal Alfalfa, the Antidopaminergic Herbal Remedy for Menopausal Symptoms

By Kyle J. Norton

Herbal Alfalfa may be considered a functional herb for the treatment of menopause, some scientists suggested.

Menopause cessation of the menstrual period and is a natural process of all women. Some researchers suggested that you officially enter the stage of menopause if you have gone 12 months without a menstrual period

Women enter the menopause stage differently, but the average age is 51 in the United States.

Women with ovarian failure or removed may experience symptoms of menopause at early age 38.

Women experienced symptoms of menopause is the result of the gradually reduced production of estrogen and progesterone, the 2 most abundant hormone in the childbearing age women.

Most women in the Western world experience symptoms of hot flashes and emotional symptoms of menopause may disrupt your sleep, lower your energy or affect emotional health.

In the classification of the different menopause symptoms experienced by the women in the West and East. Dr. Baber RJ launched a study to examine the menopause in Asia and The West suggested "There is a school of thought that believes that menopausal symptoms are a peculiarly 'Western' phenomenon, not experienced by women from other regions and particularly not from Asia where it has been claimed, dietary, social and cultural factors afforded protection for women living in that region".

and "Ethnic differences within Asia account for small differences in endogenous hormone levels and age at menopause between Asian and Western women, and the type of menopause symptoms and their prevalence also differ between those two communities".

These result strongly indicated diet plays a critical role in the development of menopause symptoms severity. Asain women who immigrated to the West and adapted to the Western style diet experience menopause symptoms similar to those in the West.

Alfalfa is a flowering plant in the genus Medicago, belonging to the family Fabaceae, It has been cultivated all over the world as hay for cattle feeding.

The leaves, sprouts, and seeds to make medicine has been used in traditional medicine over thousands of year to treat high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, enhance digestive system, bleeding disorder, kidney, and urinary tract infection, etc. North America aboriginal has used Alfalfa seed as food, such as making bread and mush.

The herbal chemical constituents include flavones, isoflavones, sterols, bichanin A, coumestrol daidzein, formonetin, genistein and coumarin derivatives, etc.

In the finding, the natural whole food for the alleviation of menopause symptoms without inducing adverse effects caused by the hormone therapy researchers at the Università degli Studi-Siena conducted an experiment to test the efficacy of a plant product based on extracts of the leaves of Salvia officinalis (sage) and Medicago sativa (alfalfa) in the treatment of hot flushes.

The study includes 30 menopausal women with symptoms of hot flushes.

Application of the combined leaves of Salvia officinalis (sage) and Medicago sativa (alfalfa) extract inhibited hot flushes and night sweating completely in 20 women with four women showed good improvement and the other six showed a reduction in symptoms.

Compared to the levels of TSH and Prl responses before and after 3 months of therapy, the plant's product induced a significant increase in prolactin (Prl and) TSH response to thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH).

TRH.produced in great amounts during menopause due to reduced TSH and prolactin responses to TRH during menopause.

Dr. De Leo V, the lead author after taking in final assessment said, "The product seems to have a central slight antidopaminergic action without side effects and is an effective agent in the treatment of menopausal symptoms".

Antidopaminergic drugs have been used in conventional medicine for the treatment of menopause symptoms, including Veralipride.

Dr. Kurzer MS and colleagues in the differentiation of plant-based estrogen, including those have been defined in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains commonly consumed by humans. Soybeans, clover and alfalfa sprouts, and oilseeds (such as flaxseed) suggest that dietary sources of isoflavones, coumestans, and lignans have been found to exert a significant effect in alleviating and preventing menopausal symptoms in humans, animals, and cell culture systems.

At the final report, the doctors said, "Although there currently are no dietary recommendations for individual phytoestrogens, there may be a great benefit in increased consumption of plant foods".

These results suggested that including alfalfa sprouts into a menopause women diet may have a strong implication in reducing the frequency and period of menopause symptoms.

Taken altogether, there is no doubt that Alfalfa processed high amount plant-based estrogen may be considered a functional food in the prevention and treatment of menopause symptoms.

Aloe Vera Inhibited Symptoms and Progression of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome With No Side Effects, According to Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a natural whole herb for the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOs) with no side effects some studies suggested.

The polycystic ovarian syndrome is an endocrinologic disease caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries

PCOs induced enlarged ovaries can facilitate the onset of certain complications, including hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and infertility.

According to the statistic, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOs) is a health condition, affecting 1 in 10 women of childbearing age. in the Western world.

The exact causes of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOs)  are unknown, However, according to epidemiological studies, high levels of androgens. and insulin is the 2 characteristics of women with the syndrome.

Women who have the onset of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOs)  also experience additional health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol, sleep problem and psychological symptoms of depression and anxiety.

According to the study by Desai BN, Maharjan RH, Nampoothiri LP. almost 70% of PCOS women have abnormal serum lipid levels (dyslipidemia) and 50% of these women are obese.

Several classes of pharmacological agents have been used to manage dyslipidemia. However, studies have shown adverse effects associated with these drugs.

Compared to other risk factors, genetic preposition has been under intensified studies by many scientists. Dr. N Prapas, the lead author in the study "Genetics of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome" said, "Polycystic ovary syndrome has been proven to be a familial condition....the role of genetic factors in PCOS is strongly supported" and

" Some genes (such as Gly972Arg, CAPN10) have shown altered expression suggesting that the genetic abnormality in PCOS affects signal transduction pathways controlling steroidogenesis, steroid hormones action, gonadotrophin action and regulation, insulin action and secretion, energy homeostasis, chronic inflammation, and others".

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.

The plant has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits.

Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

The herb also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results.

The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.

They all work together in a synergistic way to create healing and health-giving benefits, according to Gertrude Baldwin in the article of THE BENEFITS OF THE USE OF ALOE VERA IN HERBAL PREPARATIONS.

In the finding a natural ingredient or whole food for the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOs) with no side effects, researchers examine the effects of Aloe vera in Charles Foster female rats induced-PCOs PCOS by oral administration of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor letrozole (0.5 mg/kg body weight, 21 days).

All rats before injection of the Aloe vera expressed a significant increase of hyperglycemia and 90% rats also showed elevated plasma triglycerides, elevated LDL cholesterol levels, and lowered plasma HDL cholesterol levels, an indication of a dyslipidemic profile.

PCOS positive rats with an aberrant lipid profile were selected to the treatment with AVG formulation (1 ml (10 mg)/day, 30 days) administered orally.

Infection of AVG in PCOS rats exhibited a significant reduction in plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol.

The gel treatment also completely restore the abnormal estrous cyclicity, glucose intolerance, and lipid metabolizing enzyme activities.

These results firmly suggested AVG which contains a high amount of phyto components processes an anti-hyperlipidemic effect not only on PCOS but also the associated metabolic complication: dyslipidemia.

Continuously, in the study included five-month-old Charles Foster female rats were orally fed with letrozole, a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor, to induce PCOS, researchers once again confirmed that
* Aloe vera gel formulation (1 ml dose daily for 45 days) restores their estrus cyclicity, glucose sensitivity, and steroidogenic activity.

* Co-treatment of the inductive agent (letrozole) with the Aloe vera gel prevented the development of the PCO phenotype caused by the injection of the inductive agent (letrozole).

Dr.Maharjan R, the lead author at the final day of the experiment said, " Aloe vera gel formulation exerts a protective effect in against the PCOS phenotype by restoring the ovarian steroid status, and altering key steroidogenic activity".

Taken altogether, Aloe Vera may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of
polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOs) without inducing any side effects,

However, oral administration in high amounts of Aloe vera should only be prescribed by the experts in the related field

Herbal Chamomile, The Best Functional Herb for the Prevention and Treatment of Insomnia

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a herbal medicine to treat insomnia with no side effects, according to the result some studies.

Insomnia is a sign and symptom of sleep disorder in which a person has a difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep or sleep of poor quality.

According to the statistic provided by the Sleep Education, insomnia affects millions of people in the US, 30 to 35% have brief symptoms of insomnia, 15 to 20% have a short-term insomnia disorder, which lasts less than three months and 10% have a chronic insomnia disorder, which occurs at least three times per week for at least three months.

And,  one in three people suffers from some form of insomnia during their lifetime and women suffer from insomnia more often than men.

There is no single cause of insomnia. Researchers suggested that psychiatric and medical conditions, such as stress and anxiety and chronic illness such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, kidney disease, unhealthy sleep habits and long-term use of substances, are associated to some prevalent risk factors of the onset of insomnia.

In other words, anything that causes the disruption of the brain sleep-awake cycle or the brain function to turn on and off the sleep-wake cycle is the risk factor to the syndrome onset.

Long-term use of certain medication can also induce insomnia. The National Jewish Health suggested
antidepressants such as Prozac® and Zoloft, Dopamine agonists and anticonvulsants are some medications which can cause insomnia.

If you are taking one of these medicines and have a sleep problem, please make sure you discuss the problem with your doctors.

Long-term and untreated insomnia may increase the risk of the complication of anxiety, depression and heart failure and daytime trouble concentrating, and mood disturbances

Chamomile is also known as camomile, the common name of many species daisy-like plants in the family Asteraceae.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory constituents and to treat menstrual cramps and sleep disorders, reduce cramping and spastic pain in the bowels, relieve excessive gas and bloating in the intestine, etc.

Chamomile is one of the most popular herbs used for sleep disorders in herbal medicine. According to the Dr. Srivastava JK and research team at the Case Western Reserve University, many different preparations of the herb have been developed, the most popular of which is in the form of herbal tea consumed more than one million cups per day.

In the reaffirming the effect of chamomile used in traditional medicine for the treatment of insomnia, researchers at the University of Michigan launched an investigation to examine the preliminary efficacy and safety of chamomile for improving subjective sleep and daytime symptoms in patients with chronic insomnia.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial included 34 patients aged 18-65 years with DSM-IV primary insomnia for ≥ 6-months.

Patients were randomized to 270 mg of chamomile twice daily or placebo for 28-days.

There were no significant differences between groups in changes in sleep diary measures, including total sleep time (TST), sleep efficiency, sleep latency, wake after sleep onset (WASO), sleep quality, and a number of awakenings.

Participants received the 270 mg chamomile show modest advantage on daytime functioning compared to placebo.

Intake of chamomile also exerted a moderate effect in sleep latency, nighttime awakenings, and Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS).

There were no differences in adverse events reported by the chamomile group compared to placebo.

Dr. Zick SM after taking the final assessment said, "Chamomile could provide modest benefits of daytime functioning and mixed benefits on sleep diary measures relative to placebo in adults with chronic primary insomnia".

DR. Wheatley D, in the classification of the medicinal plants for insomnia, once again suggested that chamomile improves the sleep quality of patients with insomnia may be attributed to the herbal medicine anxiolytic or sedative properties.

Taken altogether, chamomile may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and treatment of insomnia.

White Button Mushroom Protects the Heart and Blood Vessels Against Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found one of the natural food used in many different cultures with potential in reduced risk and protected against CVD.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a group of conditions associated with the abnormal functioning of the heart and blood vessels.

The causes of cardiovascular diseases are associated with certain prevalent risk factors, including metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and prediabetes, smoking, family history, increase in age and being overweight or obese.

Some researchers suggested that the coincidence of overweight and obesity and cardiovascular diseases have increased proportionally over a few decades probably correlated to the promotion of the Western diet with high fat, salts, and sugar.

Dr. Luma Akil, the lead author in the concerns of the obesity causes of elevated cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and morbidity among the American adults conducted an.examination of the associations between the increase in body mass index (BMI) and the increased rates of CVD and high blood pressure (HBP) in the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Colorado

The study included the data from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System were obtained and analyzed for obesity rates, percent of myocardial infarction, stroke, and HBP from 2005–2009.

Using regression analysis, researchers found that the highest rates of obesity, CVD, and HBP were found in Mississippi, while Colorado had the lowest rates.

The result suggested that maintaining healthy weight helps reduce the risks of developing CVD and obesity is among the leading causes of elevated cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and morbidity.

In other words,  regular consumption of fruits and vegetables is strongly associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Dietary fungi, such as, mushrooms, can protect against chronic disease by altering inflammatory environments through inhibition of cellular processes under pro-inflammatory conditions which are associated with CVD,

Mushroom, a standard name of white button mushroom, the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus produced above ground on soil or on its food source, contains several important nutrients including Thiamine (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Niacin (Vitamin B3), Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5), Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Selenium, Iron, Copper and Zinc which are necessary to maintain the growth, body functions as well as protected against chronic diseases.

According to Dr. Martin KR., ergothioneine (ERT), a novel antioxidant, presented in edible mushrooms, accumulated through diet was found effective in interrupted pro-inflammatory induction of adhesion molecule expression associated with atherogenesis(1).

Its antioxidants such as Astraodorol, Psilocybin, Lectin, adustin, ribonuclease, nicotine, etc. may also consist the magic power in reduced risk and treatment of vary types of cancer, including colon(4), breast and gastric cancers(5) through inhibition of cell cycle arrest, significant suppression of cellular proliferation, in tested cancer cell lines.

These findings showed to support the notion of dietary mushrooms in the protection of CVD, but multi canters and large sample size studies to identify the main ingredients comparable to the current medicine used are necessary to improve its validation.

But, the study of the University of Gdańsk, in the reviews and updates data on macro and trace elements and radionuclides in edible wild-grown and cultivated mushrooms suggested that the coexistence of minerals of nutritional value collected from natural habitats, and co-occurrence with some hazardous elements including Cd, Pb, Hg, Ag, As, and radionuclides should be taken certain precautions(6).

Taken altogether, white button mushroom may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, depending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multi-center human study.

Celery, the Potential Anti Colon Cancer Functional Food

By Kyle J. Norton

Daily intake of a portion of celery may have a potential effect in reducing the risk and treatment of colon cancer, some scientists found.

The colon is also known as the large intestine.
Colon cancer is relatively very common and slowly growing and progress cancer and in a predictable way and is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in developed countries, including the US and Canada.

Colon cancer is a chronic and medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the colon tissue.

Most cases of colon cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the colon. The stage of colon cancer is depended on how far the alternated cells have spread in the colon.

Patients with the early stage of colon cancer, may not experience any symptoms. But as the tumor spread and expanse, it may suppress the nearby tissue and nerve, causing symptoms of locally severe pain and discomforts.

Although there are many risk factors associated with the early onset of colon cancer, a poor diet high in saturated fat and trans fat, red meat and processed foods have been found to play a major role in the development and recurrence of colon cancer in the Western world.

Dr. Yun Zhu, the lead author in the study "Western Diet and Recurrence of Colon Cancer"Disease-free survival (DFS) among CRC patients was significantly worsened among patients with a highly processed meat dietary pattern (the highest vs the lowest quartile HR 1.82" and " The association between the processed meat pattern and DFS was restricted to patients diagnosed with colon cancer (the highest vs the lowest quartile: HR 2.29".

These results suggested that the Western diet not is associated with the development of colon cancer but also associated with a higher risk of tumor recurrence, metastasis, and death among patients with colon cancer.

Celery is a species of Apium graveolens, belonging to the family Apiaceae. It is cultivated all around the globe as a vegetable.

Celery can grow to 1/2 m tall with stalks (leaf on the top) arranging in a conical shape joined at a common base.

In the finding, the natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of colon cancer without inducing side effects, researchers at the Hallym Univ investigate the major compound Luteolin, a 3',4',5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone isolated from celery in a tested cancer cell line.

Luteolin exerted a strong activity in mediated regulation of cell cycle progression and apoptosis in the HT-29 human colon cancer cell line.

Injection of luteolin decreased DNA synthesis and viable HT-29 cell numbers in a concentration-dependent manner.

Further analysis suggested that luteolin demonstrated cells cycle arrest at G1 phase by inhibiting cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)4 and CDK2 activity in the promotion of cell cycle division and a decrease of phosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein which increases the function of retinoblastoma protein in tumor suppression.

These results are observed by the activities of CDK4 and CDK2 decreased within 2 h after luteolin treatment, with a 38% decrease in CDK2 activity (P < 0.05) observed in cells treated with 40 micromol/l luteolin.

Luteolin also promoted G2/M arrest at 24 h posttreatment by downregulating cyclin B1 expression, in the promotion of cancer cell proliferation and survival.

Luteolin also exhibited an apoptotic effect by increasing the function of proteins which are responsible for programming cells death.

Moreover, the chemical compound decreased expression of these key antiapoptotic proteins which could contribute to the increase in p53, a tumor suppressor-independent apoptosis observed in HT-29 cells.

Dr. Lim DY in the final report wrote, "luteolin promotes both cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in the HT-29 colon cancer cell line, providing insight about the mechanisms underlying its antitumorigenic activities".

Additionally, in the study conducted by the Harbin Medical College to assess the role of diet in the etiology of colorectal cancer included a total of 336 incident cases of histologically confirmed colorectal cancer (111 colon cancer and 225 rectal cancer) and an equal number of controls with other non-neoplastic diseases were interviewed in hospital wards.

After examining the average frequency of consumption and amount consumed of single food items obtained by a dietary history questionnaire researchers showed that vegetables, such as celery, have a strong protective effect against colorectal cancer compared to alcohol intake which was found to be an important risk factor for developing colon cancer.

More interestingly, perillyl alcohol, found in celery seeds, and several other plants, was found to be active to induce apoptosis in colon tumor cells without affecting normal cells and revert colon tumor cells back to a differentiated state.

Application of perillyl alcohol in animal models also increased the proteins which have the function in programming cell death and induced phase I and phase II detoxification systems.

Taken altogether, celery processed anti-colon cancer bioactive chemical compounds luteolin and perillyl alcohol may be considered a functional food for the prevention and a secondary therapy combined with primary medicine for the treatment of colon cancer.

Strawberries Reduce Risk and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes

By Kyle J. Norton

The rise of obesity-associated with the increase in the incidence of Type 2 diabetes has been a significant burden on health care systems in many countries.

Strawberry processed abundant phytochemicals may be the next target for pharmaceutical companies to extract a single ingredient for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, some scientists suggested.

Type 2 diabetes is the medical condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose as the results either cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

Researcher do not why people in similar health conditions, diet and family history some are susceptible to the development of insulin resistance, the early stage of diabetes while others do.

Some researchers suggested that genetic proposition and unhealthy lifestyle accompanied physical activity are most common risk factors associated with the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Karla C. Paz-Salinas, the lead author in the study "Do People with Type 2 Diabetes Think They are Unhealthy?" wrote, "A healthy lifestyle and understanding of diabetes management are important factors for delaying the onset of comorbidities associated with Type 2 diabetes".

In genetic preposition front, researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin, said, "Very few T2D risk genes were identified using candidate gene and linkage-based studies, but the advent of genome-wide association studies has led to the identification of multiple genes, including several that were not previously known to play any role in T2D. Highly genes, for example, TCF7L2, KCNQ1, and KCNJ11, are discussed in greater detail".

We can not prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes caused by genetic mutation, however, the risk of type 2 diabetes can be reduced substantially and type 2 diabetes can be easily managed if we are following the healthy lifestyle that processes the diet high in fruits and vegetable, less in saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed food with moderate exercise.

Strawberry is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa belongs to the family Roseaceae. They have been grown all over the world with a suitable climate for commercial profits and for health benefits.

The major chemical compounds of strawberry include anthocyanin and ellagitannins and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ellagic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin.

In the finding of a natural ingredient for the treatment of diabetes with no side effects, researchers at the University of California launched a study to examine the anti-inflammatory and blood glucose (BG)-regulating capacity of strawberries in a mouse model of diet-induced obesity.

In a total of thirty-six male C57BL/6J mice were included in the study randomly divided into four groups (nine mice per group), including mice fed a low-fat diet (LF, 13 % fat), the LF supplemented with 2·6 % freeze-dried strawberry powder (LFSB), a high-fat diet (HF, 44 % fat) or the HF supplemented with 2·6 % strawberry powder (HFSB).

The dietary intake of SB approximated one human serving of strawberries

Before administration of strawberry powder, a blood sample of HF group showed an increased non-fasted BG, insulin, soluble intracellular adhesion molecule-1, the important biomarkers for inflammatory processes involving activation or damage to cells, E-selectin, leptin, resistin, and plasminogen activator protein-1, the indication of inflammatory process.

High dietary fat decreased IL-4 production, an anti-inflammatory cytokine from activated splenocytes, the white blood cells.

The levels of BG concentrations were lower in the mice supplemented with SB (10·64 mmol/l) compared to the non-supplemented mice.

BG values were approximately 6·5 % lower in the supplemented mice.

These results firmly supported a promising role for dietary strawberries in reducing the risks associated with obesity and diabetes and regulating the levels of inflammatory markers in non-obese individuals.

The study was published Nov 28 on the US National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health. You can view the abstract by clicking the link in the resources box.

Please note that strawberry contains a measured amount of oxalates, if you have kidney disease, please check with your doctor before applying.
