Adding spicy cinnamon into your diet may have a significant effect of blocking the onset of Alzheimer's Diseases, a new study suggested.
Although cinnamon is best known for its anti-diabetic effect, The spices also consist of certain chemical constituents associated to prevent insulin resistance(2).
The herb has been used in folk medicine as anti-fungal and bacterial agents and to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.(3).
Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder correlated with major reductions of neurons to the respective target areas, named after German physician Alois Alzheimer.
Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing cognitive modalities severe enough to affect language communication, memory, lifelong hobbies or social life.
Alzheimer's gets worse over time, and it is fatal.
According to statistic, over 25 million people in the world today are affected by dementia and most are suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
The exact causes of Alzheimer's disease are unknown. However, some researchers suggested that certain risk factors such as cigarette smoking, midlife high blood pressure and obesity, diabetes, and cerebrovascular lesions and psychosocial factors (high education, active social engagement, physical exercise, and mentally stimulating activity) are associated to the onset of the disease(10).
Some researchers suggested that people who are following lifelong intake of Western diet and at higher risk due to family history should be aware of some early signs and symptoms such as memory loss, the difficulty of planning and solving problems, completing familiar tasks, determining time or place, finding the right words, misplacing items often. ... and difficulty making decisions.
If you experience some signs and symptoms above, please make sure to check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
In insulin resistance Winstar male rats induced by high fat/high fructose (HF/HFr), researchers found that injection of cinnamon (CN) alleviates the increases of mRNA associated with Alzheimer's such as PTEN, Tau, and amyloid precursor protein, through its neuroprotective activity associated with improved whole-body insulin sensitivity and related changes in the brain.(4).
Cinnamon aqueous extract also found to have the ability to inhibit tau aggregation in vitro and even induce dissociation of tangles isolated from AD brain, as well as sequestering highly reactive and toxic byproducts of oxidation, through protecting tau from abnormal modifications, according to the University of California(5).
PTEN, is a tumor suppressor gene involved in the regulation of the cell cycle.
Tau protein found in neurons of the central nervous system, un-stabilize microtubules have been found in patients with Alzheimer's Diseases.
Amyloid precursor protein plays an important role in the formation of synapses between neurons in the nervous system, showed to generate beta-amyloid (Aβ) in patients with Alzheimer's diseases
In cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease animal models, caused by the accumulation of soluble oligomeric assemblies of the β-amyloid polypeptide (Aβ), oral administration of cinnamon extract (CEppt), enhanced the decrease of Aβ oligomers, reduction of plaques and improvement in cognitive behavior(6).
Some researchers suggested that the spice may be used as amyloid-beta aggregation blockers as a few approved drugs available to treat Alzheimer disease(9) due to many potential drugs in the pipeline for the disease and other amyloid-associated illnesses may not be as promising as thought(8).
Taken altogether, cinnamon and its extract may have a protective effect in reduced risk and for treatment of Alzheimer's Diseases, through reduction of the complication causes by metabolic syndromes such as obesity and diabetes.
According to DR. Georgakopoulou EA(7), Oral intake of Cinnamon may cause Stomatitis and burning sensation in the mouth with a large amount. According to traditional Chinese medicine, overdoses of cinnamon can be toxic and damaged to the liver(1)(7).

16 Remarkable Health Benefits of Herbal Aloe Vera, Scientists Revealed
By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition
Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.
The herb has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits. Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.
It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results.
The Ingredients
The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.
1. Acne Vulgaris
There are many types of skin diseases in this world, the most common one is acne.
Most people know acne is caused by dirt in oily skin pores, but little is known that acne is also caused by the system of toxins in the body.
If our liver and kidney can not cleanse all toxins in the body, then our skin become the third source for cleansing the remainder of toxins.
Ance vulgaris, one of the skin diseases with areas of scaly red skin with seborrhea, blackheads, and whiteheads.
Aloe vera one of many herbs has been studied and researched in the pharmaceutical world, because of the common problem to the young ages and commercial profits.
The study to compare the efficacy and safety of the combination of tretinoin (TR) cream (0.05%) and Aloe vera topical gel (50%) with TR and vehicle, has been well tolerated and significantly more effective than TR and vehicle for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris and with less side effects.
Other researchers in the observation of traditional medicines of many cultures used to treat skin diseases, indicated that certain ingredients, including aloe vera, have been identified in the treatment of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis,
2. Skin diseases
Skin diseases are defined as a condition of skin damage and classified according to each pathogenic causes of diseases.
In the systematic review of Aloe vera's clinical effectiveness, topical application of aloe vera is not an effective preventative for radiation-induced skin injuries, but might be effective for genital herpes and psoriasis.
In support to the above, the study by Feily A, Namazi MR. indicated that topical application of aloe vera is not effective in sunburn or suntan protection, but might be effective in treating genital herpes, psoriasis, human papillomavirus, seborrheic dermatitis, aphthous stomatitis, xerosis, lichen planus, frostbite, burn, wound healing and inflammation.
3. Aloe vera and Irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome is defined as a condition, if a patient is diagnosed with abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits at least three times a month for the last 3 months without preexistence of other diseases.
Aloe vera (AV) has long been suggested by herbal medicine in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms.
In the comparison of the effectiveness of a mixture of Aloe vera (AV) and Matricaria recutita (German chamomile, GC) in treating Irritable bowel syndrome, GC inhibited only small bowel transit while the AV/GC mixture delayed gastric emptying at the doses of 150 and 300 mg/kg. The AV/GC mixture also reduced colonic transit and small bowel transit at the dose of 150 mg/kg.
In other randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of to test the effects of aloe vera for irritable bowel syndrome, researchers found that there is no evidence that AV benefits patients with IBS and superior to placebo in improving quality of life in irritable bowel syndrome patients.
But in 49 completed the protocol to 1 month and 41 to 3 months studies, aloe vera (AV) is effective in eleven of thirty-one (35%) AV patients and 6 of 27 (22%) placebo patients responded at 1 month (p = 0.763).
Diarrhoea-predominant patients showed a trend towards a response to treatment at 1 month (10/23 V 2/14, p = 0.07).
4. Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic condition of inflammatory skin disease, affecting the joints and mostly happens to people who are obese are predisposed to diabetes and heart disease.
Many herbal extracts have been used as topical management of plaque psoriasis, including Aloe vera based on multiple studies.
Aloe vera gel is used in alternative medicine over the century for the treatment of skin diseases, including psoriasis.
And a recent study showed that ethanolic extract of Aloe vera leaf gel also produced a significant increase in relative epidermal thickness and an overall antipsoriatic activity of high effective rate.
In the comparison of comparison to evaluate the efficacy of topical aloe vera (AV) and 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide (TA) in mild to moderate plaque psoriasis, AV cream may be more effective than 0.1% TA cream in reducing the clinical symptoms of psoriasis.
Unfortunately, in diverse dermatologic conditions, even though there are some promising results with the use of aloe vera, but the clinical effectiveness of oral and topical aloe vera may require further studies, according to the study of Dr. Feily A, and Dr. Namazi MR.
5. Gingivitis
Gingivitis is defined as a condition of Inflammation of Gum Diseases.
Aloe Vera anti-inflammatory property may be the result of the plant used in the treatment of gum diseases.
In the study of 45 patients diagnosed with plaque-induced gingivitis were included, aloe mouthwash is proven to be the most potential in a reduction of gingival inflammation caused by plagues.
In the randomized, controlled, and double-blind study, a total of 148 systemically healthy subjects, showed a statistically significant decrease in PI, MGI, and BI scores after the rinse regimen began in comparison with the use of chlorhexidine.
But Dr. de Oliveira SM and the research team in comparison of Aloe vera and fluoridated dentifrice found that there was a significant reduction on plaque and gingivitis in both groups, but no statistically significant difference was observed among them (p>0.01).
Aloe vera did not show any additional effect on plaque and gingivitis control compared to the fluoridated dentifrice.
6. Gastric Ulcers
Gastric ulcer is a condition of a localized tissue erosion in the lining the stomach. as a result of bacteria Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) in most cases.
Some people with gastric ulcers may be not experiencing any symptoms at all, while others may experience burning pain, severe nausea, and vomiting.
In the comparison of the effects of aloe vera and sucralfate on gastric microcirculatory changes, cytokine levels, and gastric ulcer healing, researchers showed that aloe vera reduces leukocyte adherence and TNF-alpha level, elevate IL-10 level and promotes gastric ulcer healing.
Because of its anti-inflammatory effects, treatment of A. vera processes the enhancement in leukocyte-endothelium interaction associated with a reduction in TNF-alpha level.
In the study of acute gastric mucosal lesions induced by 0.6 M HCl and acid output, scientists indicated that aloe vera is endowed with gastric acid anti-secretory activity and could protect the gastric mucosa at low concentrations against injurious agents.
Other components of aloe vera, the polymer fraction (Avpf; molecular weight cut-off ≥50 kDa; 150 mg/kg body weight, p.o.), reduces 50% of the mRNA expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), according to the study.
7. Wound Healing
Wound healing is the natural process of skin repair after it was damaged
In a systematic review, there is cumulative evidence support that aloe vera might be an effective intervention used in burn wound healing for first to second-degree burns as the use of aloe vera shortens the healing time.
In acute and chronic wounds, although there is an absence of high-quality clinical trial evidence to support the use of Aloe vera topical agents or Aloe vera dressings as treatments for acute and chronic wounds, but some studies found the reduction in healing time with Aloe vera was noted after haemorrhoidectomy (RR 16.33 days, 95% CI 3.46 to 77.15) and application of Aloe vera cream on the surgical site is effective in reducing postoperative pain both on resting and during defecation.
In a study of a herbal gel of Aloe vera extract containing Carbopol 93, shows a promising effect on the wound healing process.
8. Immunity
The immune system is the set of cells and their activity against antigens or infectious agents that comprises the body's defense system against diseases.
It does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing infections. Beside foods and nutritional supplements, herbs also play an important role in helping the immune system defend against viruses and bacteria attacks.
In the study to determine the effect of the inner gel on bacterial-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine production, Aloe vera suppresses bacterial-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines from human immune cells. In the pharmacological study of Aloe arborescens Miller leaf components,
The Aloe extract (1.2 mg ml(-1)) acted as a powerful immune stimulant in LPS- or poly I:C-activated SAF-1 cells, inducing a synergic effect on interconnected genes that are expected to be involved in different aspects of the immune responses.
Aloe polymannose, a chemical compound found in Aloe Vera, also enhances the cognitive and immune functioning in patients of Alzheimer's disease by decreasing tumor necrosis factor-α, vascular endothelial growth factor, and interleukins-2 and-4.
9. Aloe Vera and Type II Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose.
It is either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.
As a popular herbal remedy in the United Kingdom, oral administration of aloe vera might be a useful adjunct application for lowering blood glucose in diabetic patients as well as reducing blood lipid levels in patients with hyperlipidemia.
In another study of Aloe vera gel in a mouse model of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, oral administration of PAG for 8 weeks was found to balance circulating blood glucose concentrations to a normal level in these DIO mice.
The herbal leaf is also found to be useful for treating diabetes. A study said A. vera leaf pulp extract showed hypoglycemic activity on type I (IDDM) and type II (NIDDM) diabetic rats, in comparison with glibenclamide.
On the contrary, A. vera leaf gel extract showed hyperglycaemic activity on NIDDM rats.
10. Aloe Vera and Cancers
Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable way in our body, have become progressively worse and damaged other healthy tissues, sometimes spreads to other organs in the body via lymph or blood and results may be in death.
Aloe-Emodi, a chemical compound found in Aloe vera, specifically suppresses breast cancer cell proliferation by targeting ER α protein stability through distinct mechanisms may be used as a possible application of anthraquinones in preventing or treating breast cancer in the future.
Also in another study, Aloe-Emodi is considered as a potential value for the treatment of gastric cancer and cervical cancer because of its mechanisms of inducing cell cycle interruption, differentiation.
Radiotherapy is most often used to treat head and neck cancer patients. In a study of Aloe Vera, Dr. Ahmadi A. found that oral Aloe vera mouthwash not only prevents radiation-induced mucositis but also reduces oral candidiasis of patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy due to its antifungal and immunomodulatory properties.
11. Aloe Vera and Skin Aging
Aloe Vera Supplementation has long been used to promote anti-skin aging by cosmetic industrials.
A free radical is any atom or molecule that has a single unpaired electron in an outer shell and highly reactive to react with other cells, which in turn, causes oxidative damage to the enzymes, other protein, unsaturated fatty acid, phospholipids, DNA and RNA, etc., leading to aging of the organisms,
The widespread od skin damage is a result of free radical inducing a set of a chain reaction auto-catalytically after attacking the lipid bilayers of the cell walls.
Free radicals oxidative effects can also speed up the skin aging process.
30 healthy female subjects over the age of 45 in the study were given 2 different doses (low-dose: 1,200 mg/d, high-dose: 3,600 mg/d) of aloe vera gel supplementation for 90 days. to determine the effect of aloe gel on the clinical signs and biochemical changes of aging skin, researchers found that the facial wrinkles improve significantly (p<0.05) in both groups, and facial elasticity also improve in the lower-dose group.
In the photoprotected skin, the type I procollagen mRNA levels were increased in both groups, albeit without significance; the MMP-1 mRNA levels were significantly decreased in the higher-dose group.
In UVB-induced skin photoaging in vitro, aloe shoot extract (AE), which is from the four-month-old shoots of Aloe vera, have a protective effect in blocking UVB rays in normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs).
As an anti-inflammatory agent, aloe vera, has been identified as beneficial in the treatment of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.
12. Aloe Vera and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is endocrinologic diseases caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interfere with the function of the normal ovaries as resulting of enlarged ovaries, leading to hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and effecting fertility.
The syndrome affects over 5% of women population or 1 in 20 women.
According to the study by Desai BN, Maharjan RH, Nampoothiri LP. almost 70% of PCOS women have abnormal serum lipid levels (dyslipidemia) and 50% of these women are obese.
Several classes of pharmacological agents have been used to manage dyslipidemia. However, studies have shown adverse effects associated with these drugs.
Aloe Vera may be a potential herb for treating Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome by enhancing the reductions of plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol or by restoring the ovarian steroid status.
According to the study of PCOS was induced in Charles Foster female rats by oral administration of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor letrozole (0.5 mg/kg body weight, 21 days), AVG treated PCOS rats exhibited significant reduction in plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol.
The Aloe Vera gel treatment also induces reversion of abnormal estrous cyclicity, glucose intolerance, and lipid metabolizing enzyme activities, bringing them to normal.
Another study also indicated that Aloe vera gel formulation exerts a protective effect against the PCOS phenotype by restoring the ovarian steroid status and altering key steroidogenic activity.
Dr.Pérez YY and the research team in the study of the effect of a polyphenol-rich extract from Aloe vera gel on experimentally induced insulin resistance in mice also indicated that the gel decreases significantly both body weight (p < 0.008) and blood glucose levels.
Also in the confirmation of above result, the study of Aloe vera leaves on blood glucose level in type I and type II diabetic rat models, vera leaf pulp extract showed hypoglycemic activity on IDDM and NIDDM rats.
The effectiveness is in comparison with glibenclamide.
13. Aloe vera and breast cancer
Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast either from the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk.
There are also rare cases that breast cancer may start in other areas of the breast.
In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone and the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during the lifetime of women is 1/8.
Aloe-Emodin, chemical components found in Aloe-vera and other herbs such as rhubarb, have been researched for treatment of certain kinds of diseases, including cancers.
The efficacy of the components is found to inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation by downregulating ER α protein levels, thereby suppressing ER α transcriptional activation.
In the study of another constituent, a natural anthracycline from Aloe plant found to exhibit the cytotoxic activity against two human breast cancer cell lines; without (MCF-7) and with (SKBR-3) erbB-2-topoIIalpha amplification.
14. Aloe vera and prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is a condition in which the cells of the prostate has become cancerous, causing abnormal cell growth which spread to the distant parts of the body. Most prostate cancers are slow growing and enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during the Physical (rectum) exams.
Aloe-emodin, an anthraquinone presented in aloe latex from the aloe plant has been found to suppress breast cancer cell proliferation through ER α Inhibition.
In prostate cancer study, the phytochemical inhibited both proliferation and anchorage-independent growth of PC3 cells by targeting mTORC2 as mTORC2 which plays an important role in PC3 androgen-refractory prostate cell proliferation and anchorage-independent growth.
15. Aloe vera and colon cancer
Colon Cancer is defined as a condition of the abnormal proliferation of cells in the colon.
Aloe-emodin (AE), found in Aloe vera has been suggested to have antiproliferative activity in various cancer cell lines in many studies.
In the study of colon cancer, AE appreciably induced cell death specifically through the induction of apoptosis and by activating caspases 9/6, depending on caspase-
Another study on colon cancer also showed an efficacy of AE in suppressed the nuclear translocation and DNA binding of NF-κB, which is an important transcription factor for controlling MMP-2/9 and VEGF gene expression.
16. Aloe vera and lung cancer
Lung cancer is a condition characterized by abnormal growth of the cells in the lung's tissue.
The most common form of primary lung cancers is derived from epithelial cells.
In Us, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, causing 158,683 people deaths, including 88,329 men and 70,354 women, according to the 2007 statistic.
Aloe-emodin has been studied extensively through the scientific community for their effects against cancer by induced apoptosis in lung carcinoma cell lines CH27 (human lung squamous carcinoma cell) and breaking of DNA strands (DNA ladders and sub-G(1) formation) and regulating of the expression of Bcl-2 family proteins (a suppressor of apoptosis).
In the study of the effects of aloe-emodin-induced cell death in the human lung nonsmall cell carcinoma cell line H460, aloe-emodin exerts a significant activity in regulating apoptotic cell death through the class of mitogen-activated protein kinases(p38).
These results suggested that aloe-emodin found in Aloe Vera may be a potential agent for preventing and treating lung cancer.

The Bioactive Phytochemical Allyl isothiocyanate Which Stops Prostate Cancer Cells From Proliferating
By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition
Phytochemicals may be next potential sources of new medications for the treatment of diseases with little or no side effects, some scientists suggested.
Phytochemicals, the natural chemical constituents formed the plants outer's color protect the plants against environmental threats like predator insects, pollution and disease.
Although they are important to sustain plants life, phytochemicals are truly non-essential nutrients.
Allyl isothiocyanate is phytochemical containing sulfur in the class of organosulfur compound, found abundantly in cruciferous vegetables, horseradish, mustard, wasabi, etc.
Prostate cancer is a chronic and medical characterized by cells growth disorderly and irregularly in the prostate tissue. In most cases, change of DNA starts in the cells on prostate surface.
At the advanced stage, cancerous cells can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy cells of the tissue and organs through fluid and blood circulation.
Most prostate cancers are slow growing. Enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during the physical (rectum) exams.
In an aim to reaffirm the effects of allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), a constituent of cruciferous vegetables inhibiting survival of PC-3 and LNCaP human prostate cancer cells in culture, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine launched an investigation to examine whether allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) administration retard growth of human prostate cancer xenografts in vivo.
Bolus i.p. injection of 10 micromol AITC, three times per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) to experimental human prostate cancer xenografts beginning the day of tumor cell implantation was carried out for 26 days.
* The application exerts a significant effect to inhibit the growth of PC-3 xenograft
* Mice treated with AITC shows a statistically significant increase in the number of apoptotic bodies, using the histological analysis of tumors excised at the termination of the experiment.
* AITC-treated mice induces approximately 70% reduction in the levels of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 in the tumor lysate, compared with that of control mice, according to Western blot analysis.
After taking into account of other co and confounders, researchers wrote, " (AITC shows a) Statistically significant reduction in the expression of several proteins that regulate G2/M progression".
Furthermore, in cultured PC-3 (androgen-independent) and LNCaP (androgen-dependent) human prostate cancer cells, the injection of allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), also significantly inhibits proliferation of all cancer cell lines in a dose-dependent manner with an IC(50) of approximately 15-17 micro M.
These results suggested that AITC, and possibly other ITCs, may find use in the treatment of human prostate cancers.

Moreover, researchers also discovered that survival of a normal prostate epithelial cell line (PrEC) was minimally affected by AITC even at concentrations that were highly cytotoxic to the prostate cancer cells and AITC reduces proliferation of PC-3 as well as LNCaP cells correlated with accumulation of cells in G(2)/M phase and induction of apoptosis.
These results suggested that AITC, and possibly other ITCs, may find use in the treatment of human prostate cancers.
Taken altogether, phytochemical allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) found abundantly from the cruciferous vegetables, horseradish, mustard, wasabi may be considered as function supplement for treatment of prostate cancer, pending to the results of further large sample size and multi-center studies.

Fennel, The Best Herbal Remedy Which Detoxes Your Kidneys Through Promoting Excess Fluids Secretion, Public Medical Library Revealed
By Kyle J. Norton
Fennel may have a potential and positive effect of eliminating excess water and toxin from our body, some scientists suggested.
Diuresis is a medicine with a function to stimulate increased production of urine.
Detoxification is a process of eliminated toxin accumulation from our body. In some cases, the function may only target some specific organs, such as kidneys, liver,..... and lung.
According to traditional medicine, detoxification is a necessary process to enhance and optimize the functions of our body by cleansing away substances which may reduce or cause harm to our body organs and tissue.
According to the Tao of Wellness in the address of the importance of detoxification of Traditional Chinese Medicine wrote, " Our body is automatically programmed to cleanse itself daily. However, with our fast-paced modern lifestyle and exposure to an increasing number of harmful and toxic substances, our body’s natural cleansing ability has become overworked and compromised" and "Many signs and symptoms attributed to stress are now being linked to exposure from harmful substances such as PCBs, pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, growth hormones, and mercury in food and liquids as well as dioxins and formaldehyde in the air".

In animal model, according to the John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. in the evaluation of the re-toxic effect of hydroalcoholic extracts of Foeniculum vulgare var dulce (D.C) root, researchers found that application of the extract exerts a significant activity in flushing out of excess water and toxin from the body through increased kidney function in secretion of fluids.
The result of these properties was observed by an increase in urine flow and urinary sodium excretion.
The efficacy in the cleansing body was also found linearly in dose depending manner.
Continuously, in further examine the efficacy of fennel powder, extract and oil on gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity through a study of total 35 adult female Sprague Dawley rats classified into five groups with the first group kept on the standard diet all over the period of the experiment. and the other groups administered gentamicin (100 mg/kg/day for 7 days i.p), followed by either control (+ve) group or treated groups with fennel powder, extract and oil for 45 days, at the end of the study, researchers found that
* Injected gentamicin group served as control exhibited a strong nephrotoxicity manifested by increasing levels of kidney function indicator, serum nitric oxide (NO) and kidney malondialde(MDA) however, this group of rats also exerted a significant decrease in weight gain.
Increased expression of serum nitric oxide (NO) and kidney malondialdehyde (MDA) is an indicator of severe oxidative stress caused by imbalanced of the ratio of ROS and antioxidants in the host.
* Gentamicin groups treated with fennel powder, extract and oil demonstrated an improve the levels of urea and uric acid in comparing to control (+ve) and displayed an improvement of antioxidant enzymes, serum superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase, and glutathione transferase (GST) and decrease of serum NO in compared to control (+ve) group.
These results addressed the important antioxidant effect of fennel extracts.
Furthermore, the applications not only inhibited the levels of free radical and theirs' chain reactive activities but also stimulated the production of antioxidants found in the host tissue.
* Moreover, the group treated with fennel oil restored the normal values of kidney antioxidant enzymes compared with normal group and other treatment groups.
Dr. Soheir Ahamed Al-Masri, the lead author, after taking into account of other co and confounders said, "fennel powder, extract and oil have a potent antioxidant and ameliorate in rats gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats".
Clearly, fennel oil exhibited the greatest effect in stimulated kidney function to detox the body toxins through increased secretion of urine compared to other experimental groups.
The results of this study clearly indicate that fennel powder, extract and oil are potent antioxidants which ameliorate the levels of gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats.
Interestingly, in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) treated with either water extract of Marrubium vulgare L. or Foeniculum vulgare L. in normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY), researchers showed that application of fennel water extract reduces hypertension through Foeniculum increased water, sodium and potassium excretion in compared to no effect of Marrubium treated group.
Additionally, in compared to Marrubium extract reduced hypertension through inhibited contractile responses, fennel restored the normal; blood pressure by increased urine secretion and ameliorated the overexpression of ROS and increased antioxidant status in the host.
Surely, one can say that Foeniculum acts mainly as a diuretic and a natriuretic while Marrubium displays vascular relaxant activity.
Taken together, fennel and its extracts may be considered as a kidney detoxed functional food in getting rid of body toxins through its diuretic activities.

Cruciferous Vegetables, The Natural Chemopreventive Veggies Protect Our Body Against Cancers Caused by Chemical Toxins, Scientists Reveal
By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition
Cruciferous vegetables, rich of phytochemicals may be considered as the functional food for prevention of cancers caused by chemical carcinogens some studies suggested.
Chemical carcinogens, types of chemical toxins, can induce cellular and chromosomes change and DNA damage, causing mutation of healthy cells, the initial stage of cancer development.
According to the National Toxicology Program 14th Report on Carcinogens “Known to be human carcinogens” provided by the American Cancer Society, there are many different types of chemical carcinogens, including
Cruciferous vegetables, rich of phytochemicals may be considered as the functional food for prevention of cancers caused by chemical carcinogens some studies suggested.
Chemical carcinogens, types of chemical toxins, can induce cellular and chromosomes change and DNA damage, causing mutation of healthy cells, the initial stage of cancer development.
According to the National Toxicology Program 14th Report on Carcinogens “Known to be human carcinogens” provided by the American Cancer Society, there are many different types of chemical carcinogens, including
* Lifestyle factors (nutrition, tobacco use, physical activity, etc.)
* Naturally occurring exposures (ultraviolet light, radon gas, infectious agents, etc.)
* Medical treatments (radiation and medicines including chemotherapy, hormone drugs, drugs that suppress the immune system, etc.)
* Workplace Exposures
* Household exposures
* Pollution
Cancers are class of medical diseases characterized by cell multiply disorderly and uncontrollably.
At the advance stage, most cancers can travel a distance away from the site of origin to infect other healthy cells and tissue via lymph and blood.
According to the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, sulforaphane (SFN), the isothiocyanate (ITC) group of organosulfur compounds found in cruciferous vegetable expressed chemopreventive properties involved detoxification processes of chemical carcinogens.
Dr. de Figueiredo SM, the lead author said, " In a dose-dependent manner, ITC inhibits the viability of human cancer cells, modifies epigenetic events that occur in cancer cells and present antiinflammatory effect acting during the initial of uncontrolled cell proliferation."
The chemoprotective activity of the cruciferous vegetable was attributed to significant expression of the antioxidants in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of cancer cells.
Furthermore, its phytochemicals also can act as the post-initiation stages of carcinogenesis, 'suppressing' agent involving the ability to modulate the Nrf2 which is a protein with unique function of regulating expression of antioxidant proteins that protect against oxidative damage triggered by injury and inflammation.
In fact, besides using as a chemopreventive agent against chemical carcinogenesis, sulforaphane (SFN), the major chemical constituent of cruciferous vegetables also inhibited the drug-metabolizing enzymes that cause activation/neutralization of carcinogenic metabolites and protected normal healthy cells from environmental toxin inducing of cancers.
Moreover, the phytochemical exhibited the molecular mechanisms responsible for the overall chemopreventive effects on selective cytotoxicity, the unique function of inhibiting oxidate stress, free radicals produced by lipid peroxidation in cells.
Additionally, in tobacco smoke carcinogens induced chemical tumors, cruciferous vegetable consumption has shown to inversely associate the development of cancer.
In animal experiments. the chemopreventive effects of isothiocyanates, another compound found cruciferous vegetable, inhibited the metabolic activation of carcinogens by cytochrome P450s, enzymes with the function of metabolized potentially toxic compounds.
Taking together, intake of cruciferous vegetables have a potential health benefit against environment toxins that initiates the early onset of cancers. But due to the small size of the sample, further studies are necessary to address the veggies anti cancers possibility.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga Improves All Aspects in Patients with Osteoporosis
By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition
Yoga participated may benefit to individuals with osteoporosis by reducing complications of fractures, some studies suggested.
Osteoporosis is a Musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) medical condition, characterized by decreased bone density.
The exact causes of osteoporosis are unknown. Neither researchers understood that people with the same health conditions, some are affected by the imbalance between new bone formation and bone resorption while others do not.
According to the statistic, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men older than 50 will suffer from an osteoporosis fracture, worldwide.
Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known to people the in Western world and some parts in Asia.
Some of yoga health benefits were reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.
In the review of literature published in PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane databases between 1966 and 2011 about topics related to osteoporosis and spinal movement. researchers found that
*Yoga, as a moderate form of exercise showed to strengthen the muscles supporting the spinal column, promote balance, improve posture, and enhance the quality of life.
* Yoga attendees may also benefit from varied spinal movement in preserving the health and strength of the vertebral bodies.
* Yoga exercise modified by experts may be helpful in reduced risk fracture depending on the risk of vertebral fractures of attendees
After adjusting to other risk factors, Dr, Smith EN the led author said, "Yoga therapists are cautioned to not apply a one-size-fits-all approach when working with this population".
Furthermore, the study also concerned that more studies are needed to further evaluate yoga poses presence which provides the least risk and greatest benefit to individuals with osteoporosis.
Physically, yoga postures and exercise exert a significant effect of stimulating bone metabolism and enhance physical function. the As impact of moderate exercises is recognized as beneficial for the stimulation of bone tissue, muscle strength, type of muscle contraction associated with changes in bone metabolism.

However, researchers do know that certain risk factors such as a lid to increase lifelong calcium-deficient diet, age, female, family history,.... bone structure and overweight are associated with the early onset of osteoporosis.
Furthermore, long-term intake of certain medications such as prednisone and a medical condition such as rheumatoid arthritis are also the osteoporosis prevalent risk factors

Additionally, in the support of the above differentiation, researchers at the Istanbul University conducted a review of literature posted in databases with 26 postmenopausal osteoporotic women over 55 years of age satisfied the criteria selected found that* Yoga may be used as a form of exercise in the field of osteoporosis rehabilitation.
* Yoga lessons expressed a positive influence on balance, posture, flexibility, and life quality.
* Yoga education has a positive effect on pain, physical functions, social functions, general, particularly in post postmenopausal osteoporotic women.
Furthermore, the study also advises that even though yoga exercise prescribed for patients with the vertebral bone loss, is effective and important for treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis but instructors should need to know some positions can contribute to extreme state ain on spines with bone loss.

Dr. Sinaki M, said, "Although exercise has been shown to be effective for improving bone mineral density and decreasing fracture risk, our subjects had the development of VCFs and neck and back pain with yoga exercises. This finding suggests that factors other than bone mass should be considered for exercise counseling in patients with bone loss. The increased torque pressure applied to vertebral bodies during SFEs may be a risk".

Infectious Diseases: Green tea, The Beverage Kills Bacterial Staphylococcus and Streptococcus That Cause Cellulitis
Kyle J. Norton
Cellulitis is a common and serious bacterial skin infection that affects the deep layer of skin, caused mostly by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus bacteria, inducing symptoms of a red, swollen skin rash (usually on the lower legs or arms) that feels tender and hot.
The skin infectious disease can appear anywhere in the body, however, in most cases, it affects the skin of the lower legs.
As always, most cases of cellulitis are treated with antibiotics in a period of 5-10 days. Please make sure that you discuss the side effects of the medicine with your doctor.
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect of reducing risk and treatment of cellulitis, some scientists suggested.
The results of the investigation were evaluated by numbers of respectable institutes, including the University of Indonesia and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and published online in some medical literature databases including PubMed.

The skin infectious disease can appear anywhere in the body, however, in most cases, it affects the skin of the lower legs.
Some researchers suggested that people with a weakened immune system such as age population and intake of immune suppressive drugs and obesity are most likely to develop cellulitis.
Although it is rare, some people with severe cellulitis that experience severe symptoms of high fever or vomiting and fails to respond to treatment.
Recurrences of cellulitis may require antibiotics that are given by IV.
* Green tea extract showed insufficient antibacterial activity when used alone
* Methylxanthines had no intrinsic inhibitory activity against any of the bacterial strains tested.
* When green tea extract and catechins were combined with gentamicin, the MIC values of gentamicin against the standard strains and a clinical isolate were reduced, and synergistic activities were observed (FICI < 1).
* A combination of caffeine with gentamicin did not alter the MIC values of gentamicin.
The results of all comparison after taking into account of other co and confounders revealed that green tea extract and catechins potentiated the antimicrobial action of gentamicin against some clinical isolates of S. aureus and standard P. aeruginosa strains", Dr. Fazly Bazzaz BS, the lead author said.
Moreover, the evaluate the antibacterial activity of the Indonesian water soluble green tea extract, Camellia sinensis, against clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) (MRSA) and multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR-P. aeruginosa) also lends a support of the above differentiation.
According to the University of Indonesia,
* While the inhibition zone diameter for P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and MDR-P. aeruginosa were (17.550 ± 0.393) mm and (17.670 ± 0.398) mm respectively.
* The MIC of green tea extracts against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA were 400 µg/mL and 400 µg/mL, respectively.
* Finally, the MIC for P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and MDR-P. aeruginosa were 800 µg/mL, and 800 µg/mL, respectively.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In the searching of natural antibiotics against skin infection such as cellulitis, by reviewing some plants for the treatment of skin diseases taken place during the past 17 year using the of plants is as old as the mankind, researchers found that green tea with abundant polyphenols, epigallocatechin gallate exerts a strong effect as antioxidants to reduce the risk of skin diseases, including tumors, herpes, and cellulitis.
According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, application of EGCG also demonstrated a potential in rejuvenated old skin cells.
Further analysis of green tea catechins, the major green tea polyphenols, exhibited antimicrobial activity against resistant pathogens in induction of skin infection, including cellulitis, researchers at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences conducted a study to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of different agents against bacterial strains, through assessing the interactions of green tea extract, epigallate catechin, epigallocatechin gallate, two types of methylxanthine, caffeine, and theophylline with gentamicin against standard and clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and the standard strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa).
