Arnica, The Herb Which Speeds Up Bruise Healing, Scientists Reveal

Herbal Arnica may process a property of speeding bruise healing without inducing adverse effects, some studies suggested.

A bruise is a condition characterized by black and blue marks on the skin due to trauma, caused by an object or force strikes the body, leading to damage to capillaries and sometimes venules that allow blood to seep, hemorrhage, or extravasate into the surrounding interstitial tissues.

A bruise can also be induced by surgery caused by instruments which pierce into the deep layer of the skin to create an opening.

Most Bruising resolves themselves in a few days or weeks.

Some bruise may cause pain but the pain usually goes away when the color of the area fades away.

Bruising, also known as a contusion, is defined as a condition of

Some researchers suggested that

Most common causes of bruising are sport related.

Sport physical activities can sometimes cause broken bones, strains and sprains, dislocations, torn tendons,..... and muscle swelling. Overuse of body muscles in sport is one of risk factor that can cause, inducing bruising.

Ice and heat therapies by Appling ice or heat immediately after the injury to reduce blood flow around the area. were found to be effective in preventing bruising.

Arnica is a herbaceous species, genus perennial, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Europe and Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine for centuries to treat strains, sprains, and bruises.

The chemical ingredients besides major bioactive compound helenalin, Anica also contains 11,13- dihydrohelenaline, chamissonolid, Sesquiterpene lactone, lignans of the furofuran, dibenzylbutyrolactone, dibenzylbutyrolactol types, pinoresinol, epipinoresinol, phillygenin, matairesinol, nortrachelogenin, and nortracheloside,..... and six dibenzylbutyrolactol derivatives.

In the assessment of the comparative utility of topical formulations in hastening the resolution of skin bruising, researchers at the Northwestern University, conducted a double (patient and rater) blinded randomized controlled trial with numbers of healthy volunteers, age range 21-65 years.

After four standard bruises of 7 mm diameter each were created on the bilateral upper inner arms, 5 cm apart, two per arm, using a 595-nm pulsed-dye laser (Vbeam; Candela Corp., Wayland, MA, U.S.A.). on each subject, each bruising area was injected by one topical agent, including 5% vitamin K, 1% vitamin K and 0·3% retinol, 20% arnica, or white petrolatum, twice a day for 2 weeks.

At the end of the 2 weeks experiment, researchers found that
* All four treatment score a significant improvement in the change in the rater bruising score.

* The mean improvement associated with 20% arnica was greater than with white petrolatum (P=0·003), and the mixture of 1% vitamin K and 0·3% retinol.

* However, 5% vitamin K cream processes the highest bruise healing score compared to other applications.

These results suggested that topical 20% Arnica ointment may be able to reduce bruising more effectively than placebo and more effectively than low-concentration vitamin K formulations, such as 1% vitamin K with 0·3% retinol.

In  a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial with three parallel arms to reaffirm Arnica efficacy in the control of bruising, reducing swelling and promoting recovery after local trauma,  64 adults undergoing elective surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to take three tablets daily of homeopathic Arnica 30C or 6C or placebo for seven days before surgery and fourteen days after surgery.

According to the summary of the experiment final report, researchers showed
* There were no group differences on the primary outcome measures of pain (P=0.79) and bruising (P=0.45) at day four.

* Swelling and use of analgesic medication also did not differ between arnica and placebo groups.

* Adverse events were reported by 2 patients in the arnica 6C group, 3 in the placebo group and 4 in the arnica 30C group.

These results strongly indicated that Arnica does not process analgesic property.

Moreover, in the study to assess Arnica decreases bruising and muscle pain efficacy, the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial including 53 subjects.

Measurement of ankle range of motion and muscle tenderness were also recorded during Leg pain induced by calf raises.

Then, each participant received 2 tubes of cream, 1 with active Arnica and 1 with placebo.

The creams were applied to the lower legs immediately after the exercise, and again at 24 and 48 hours post-exercise according to the "RIGHT" or "LEFT" labels.

At 48 hours post-exercise, subjects had their ankle range of motion and muscle tenderness measured.

Subjects used the analog scale to rate pain in each leg at baseline, 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours.

At the final day of study, by analyzing the reported returned by participants, scientists found that

* No significant differences in pain scores were seen before exercise.

* Pain scores on legs treated with Arnica were higher than scores on those receiving placebo 24 hours after exercise respectively.

* Pain scores on day 3 and day 4 were not significantly different.

* There was no difference in muscle tenderness.

* Ankle range of motion did not differ significantly on either day 1  or day 3.

Dr. Adkison JD, the lead author suggested, Arnica may increase pain in the affected area within 48 hours immediately after application.

Taking all together, herbal Arnica may be used as a therapeutic treatment for speeding up bruise healing however, patients should be aware that topical application of herbal Arnica does not process analgesic property. In some cases, it may increase pain in the affected area.

Alternative Therapy: Yoga In Prevention and Treatment of Neurological Disorders

Kyle J. Norton (Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Yoga, an integrated form of exercise may be used for reduced risk and treatment of neurological  disorders, some scientists suggested.

Neurological disorders are medical condition characterized by any disorder of the nervous system caused by structural, biochemical or electrical abnormalities.

There are many forms of neurological  disorders. The most common types of the disease include neurodegenrative disease, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease, epilepsy. multiple sclerosis and Migraines.

According to the Medical press, globally, the burden of neurological disorders (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, epilepsy etc) has increased substantially over the past 25 years. These may be results of over 25 years of economic expansion that have increased living standard of billion of people in the Southeast Asian region.

Today, people who have made a lots of money in that region have abandoned traditional diet with abundant vegetables and fruits and replaced them  with Western diet which is considered as a risk factor of neurological  disorders.

A new report from the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that neurological disorders, ranging from epilepsy to Alzheimer disease, from stroke to headache, affect up to one billion people worldwide. And, An estimated 6.8 million people diet every year as a result of neurological disorders.

In Europe alone, neurological diseases cost the health care system an estimation of 139 billion euros in 2004.

Yoga, the ancient  technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a review of literature published online, including randomized, controlled trials with yoga as the central component of the intervention, researchers filed the following reports
*  6 selected trial expressed a significant effect of yoga lessons in reduced symptoms and treatment of neurological disorders
* 10 out 13 trials chosen indicated a positive effect in use of yoga as as an ancillary treatment of in patients with psychiatric disorders.

Researchers also note that Trials were excluded in these review if yoga was not the central component of the intervention.

These results suggested that long term participation in yoga affects the adrenal gland of central nervous system in production of hormones which have strong implications on stress and anxiety, such as serotonin, adrenaline and cortisol.

Further more, yoga meditation and posture also enhanced blood circulation to the central nervous system, thus reducing risk of neurological disorders.

Also in the review of article used comprehensive scientific, evidence-based studies to analyze the efficacy of various basic and applied aspects of yoga in disease prevention and health promotion, particularly in neurological disorders from various resources including PubMed, Ovid, MD-Consult, USC, and U.C.L.A. libraries, researchers at the USC, after adjusting to other co confound factors, indicated that patients who participated in the class of yoga demonstrate statistically encouraging physiological and psychological improvements in the aforementioned neurological disorders.

Additionally, in the investigate promotion of mind-body medicine for health promotion, disease prevention and as a possible treatment modality for neurological disorders, researchers at the S-VYASA University performed a comprehensive search in the PubMed/Medline found that 94 out of 700 examine demonstrated a strong improvement in patients with various neurological disorders

Martin Jones, the lead author in the article of Yoga for Neurological Health, For those with MS, Parkinson's, or Other Neurological Disorders wrote, " (Yoga) Exercises that train neuromuscular coordination, as well as draw vitality and strength to all parts of the body" and "Techniques to draw on the healing aspects of the parasympathetic (“rest and repose”) nervous system and meditation to retrain the brain and create more efficient pathways to the pre-frontal lobes, the most highly evolved part of our nervous system, where we experience our most inspired, creative thinking and elevated levels of consciousness".

Base on information collected, there is no doubt that yoga may be considered as secondary form of exercise used conjunction with standard application for reduced symptoms and treatment of neurological  disorders

How to Protect Your Stomach Against Onset of Atrophic Gastritis and Gastric Cancer

By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition

Scientists may have found a whole food which has a unique function in protecting the stomach against the onset of atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer, some studies suggested.

Atrophic gastritis is a condition of loss of gastric glandular cells caused by long-term inflammation of the stomach mucous membrane (mucosa).

Loss of the gastric glandular cells in the long term eventually is replaced by intestinal and fibrous tissues.

Gastric cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular and uncontrollable cell growth in the stomach lining in the beginning. At the advanced stage, the malignant cells can travel a distance away through blood and fluid circulation to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

Researchers do not know why some people with the same health condition are susceptible to the risk of gastric cancer, while others do not. The exact causes of gastric cancer are also unknown. However, some researchers suggested that Age, diet, and stomach disease, such as can increase the risk of developing gastric cancer.

Both atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer share the common symptoms of stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite,... and indigestion. However, common symptoms of unexpected weight loss and stomach ulcers can only be found in gastric cancer while iron deficiency anemia is found in the majority of patients with atrophic gastritis.

If you experience some of the above symptoms, please see your doctor to rule out gastric cancer possibility.

Celery is a species of Apium graveolens, belongings to the family Apiaceae, cultivated all around the globe as a vegetable.

Celery can grow to 1/2 m tall with stalks (leaf on the top) arranging in a conical shape joined at a common base.

In vitro, with an aim to find the natural ingredient from food sources for treatment of atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer without inducing adverse effects, researchers conducted an experiment, including 5-8 week-old Mongolian gerbils inoculated with Helicobacter pylori for four weeks without (atrophic gastritis group) or with N'-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitroso-guanidine (MNNG) (gastric cancer group) in drinking water, and were then rested for two weeks.

During the 7th-32th (atrophic gastritis group) or the 7th-52th (gastric cancer group) weeks were given various doses (0-60 mg/kgbw/day) of apigenin, a major bioactive compound isolated from celery.

Observation at the end of the 32th (atrophic gastritis group) or the 52th (atrophic gastritis group) week, after sacrificing, researchers found that
*Application of Apigenin at the doses range from 30-60 mg/kgbw/day effectively decreased atrophic gastritis (atrophic gastritis group) and dysplasia/gastric cancer (gastric cancer group).

* Apigenin treatment (60 mg/kgbw/day) significantly decreased Helicobacter pylori colonization and Helicobacter pylori-induced histological changes of neutrophil and monocyte infiltrations and atrophic gastritis in both atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer.

These results suggested that apigenin isolated from celery processes a remarkable ability to inhibit Helicobacter pylori-induced atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer progression as well as possessing potent anti-gastric cancer activity.

Additionally, the study in finding of natural compound which processes mechanisms of apoptosis in tumor cells for tumor therapy and cancer molecular biology and inhibits loss of cell cycle control, leading to uncontrolled proliferation in healthy cells, suggested that celery seed extract (CSE), in a dose- and time-dependent manner, exhibited anti-proliferation effect on human gastric cancer BGC-823 cells, through cell cycle arrest and apoptosis-related proteins.

Dr. Gao LL, the lead scientist said, at the end of the experiment, "The molecular determinants inhibition of cell proliferation, as well as apoptosis of CSE, may be associated with cycle arrest in the S phase".

Furthermore, Celery seed oil, in benzo[a]pyrene- (BP) induced forestomach cancer in mice, the chemical constituents. 3-n-butylphthalide and sedanolide showed to reduce tumor incidence from 68% to 30% and 11%, and 67% and 83% in tumor multiplicity, respectively.

These results suggest that phthalides, as a class of bioactive natural products occurring in edible umbelliferous plants, may be effective chemopreventive agents for cancer.

Moreover, in the differentiation of the nutritional epidemiology of gastric cancer in 293 cases and neighborhood-, age-, and sex-matched controls in communities throughout the counties of Niagara, Monroe, and Erie in western New York researcher discovered that ingestion of carotene from raw vegetables (including celery, cucumbers, carrots, green peppers, tomatoes, and onions), as well as with the increased use of low-temperature food storage exerts a significant inhibition of oxidation products that could act as carcinogens in the stomach.

Taken altogether, celery whole food and celery seed containing high amounts of bioactive Apigenin  and phthalide, respectively may be used to prevent and treat atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer without no adverse effects.

Asparagus, The Vegetable Which Boosts The Body's Defense System Against Onset of Diseases, Scientists Reveal

Asparagus may have a profound effect to stimulate immune system fighting against foreign invasion, some scientists suggested.

Immunomodulators are agents that have unique functions to modify the immune response or the functioning of the immune system such as  the stimulation of antibody formation or the inhibition of abnormal white blood cell activity.

In other words, immunomodulation processed immunotherapy, in which immune responses are induced depending to the body needs.

The immune system is the set of cells and their activity against antigens or infectious agents that comprises of the body's defense system against diseases.

The immune system does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing infections.

Beside foods and nutritional supplements, herbs also play important roles in helping the immune system defend against viruses and bacteria attacks.

Asparagus is a flowering plant belong to species the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, and northwest Germany, northern Africa and western Asia.

The herb has been used in early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavor and diuretic properties. Asparagus racemosus Linn. (Fam. Liliaceae) is considered as an ethno-pharmacologically acclaimed Ayurvedic medicinal plant which may enhance immune function.

More precisely, ARC demonstrated a higher immune stimulatory activity upto  51.8% at dose of  25 μg/ml.

Furthermore, in the searching for natural immunomodulatory agents where decrease of parasitic burden and simultaneous enhancement of adaptive immunity can be achieved in replacement of current drugs for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis with side effect of suppressesing immune function during the course of infection, researchers at the Panjab University, launched an investigation based on combination of Asparagus racemosus, an immunomodulatory drug, in combination with cisplatin against Leishmania donovani infected BALB/c mice.

Experiential mice were given A. racemosus (650 mg/kg b.wt./day for 15 days, orally) in combination with cisplatin (5 mg/kg b.wt./day for 5 days, intraperitoneally) with an aim to enhance the clearance of parasites determined by Giemsa-stained liver impression smears.

At the the end of study, researchers found that
* Application of combination group achieved increased production of disease resolving Th-1 response (IFN-gamma, IL-2), heightened DTH (delayed type hypersensitivity) response and augmented levels of IgG2a

IFNγ, or type II interferon, a cytokine plays an important role in regulate innate and adaptive immunity against viral, some bacterial and protozoal infections

Interleukin-2 (IL-2), a type of inflammatory cytokine with function that signals molecule in the immune system plays a critical role to regulate the activities of white blood cells in response to immunity.

Black beans, The Legume Which Restores The Ratio of Free Radicals and Antioxidants in Our Body

By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition

Black beam with abundant nutrients and phytochemicals may have a profound effect in restoring the health of human systems by rebalancing the ratio of reactive oxygen species and antioxidants in the body, some scientists suggested.

A free radical is an atom that has a single unpaired electron in an outer shell and highly reactive to react with other cell, which in turn, causes oxidative damage to the enzymes, protein, unsaturated fatty acid, phospholipids, DNA..... and RNA through a set of chain reaction auto-catalytically after attacking the lipid bilayers of the cell walls.

Epidemiological studies agreed that overexpression of free radicals is an association of a wide range of medical conditions including chronic syndromes and diseases.

Antioxidants, opposite to free radicals are substances that inhibit free radicals activity in the induction of oxidation.

In a healthy individual, antioxidants produced by antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and catalases found in the tissue are more than enough to balance the ratio of ROS and antioxidant which in turn enhances the function of body systems in protection against diseases associated to overexpression of free radicals.

However, in the prevention of free radicals in the induction of diseases, some people may opt for supplementation, including free radical scavenging antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamins A, C, E, folic acid, and beta-carotene.

Some researchers suggested, phytochemical produced by plants with a function to protect the plant to grow and defense against competitors, pathogens, or predators may also improve antioxidant status in the body if they are consumed by a human.

Black bean is a Small roughly ovoid legume with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae.

Dried and canned forms of black beans can be bought in most grocery stores all around the year in . It is believed that black bean was first domesticated growth in South America.

b. Chemicals constituents
The major chemical compounds of black bean include anthocyanin, (-)-epicatechin, delphinidin, petunidin, flavonols, and malvidin.

In the study to classify the maximum antioxidant effect of legume including black and red varieties of adzuki beans, researchers found that Adzuki bean (black) contain high levels of antioxidant 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide anion scavenger compared to other beans.
* Adzuki bean (black) also processes the hydrogen peroxide scavenging and metal chelating abilities, but lesser compared to adzuki bean (red) variety.

* Phenolic extracts found in black adzuki bean also showed distinct variations compared to other beans in the inhibition of enzymes associated with hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia.

* α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was superior in the black variety of adzuki bean (IC(50,) 26.28 mg/mL), both adzuki bean varieties (black and red) with no significant difference in their IC(50) values (7.32 to 9.85 mg/mL).

Dr. Sreerama YN, the lead scientist at the final report of the study wrote." Vigna species of legumes are a potential source of antioxidant phenolics and also great sources of strong natural inhibitors for α-glucosidase and lipase activities" and "Vigna species of legumes are good sources of phenolic antioxidants and strong natural inhibitors of enzymes associated with diabetes and obesity".

Furthermore, with an aim to reaffirm the antioxidant status of varieties of legume species, researchers at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center launched an investigation using numbers of a different technique, including Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and metal ion (Fe²⁺) chelation assays.

Thirty different varieties of commonly consumed legumes in India were screened for phenolic content and antioxidant in the study.

All 30 bean varieties process a high level of antioxidants. Beans with a dark coating such as black bean have higher levels of antioxidants compared to beans with the lighter coating.

Moreover, Antioxidant activity showed a positive correlation (r²>0.95) with phenolic contents.

These result suggested that black color bean may be considered functional food in improved antioxidants in the body. In other words, intake of black bean daily may protect us against chronic syndromes and diseases caused by an imbalance of ratio free radicals and antioxidants in our body.

Herbal Aloe Vera, The Functional Herb Blocks Insulin Resistance Against Onset of Type II Diabetes

By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition

Herbal Aloe Vera may have a potential effect in lowering insulin resistance, the main cause of type II diabetes, some scientists suggested

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose.

In other words, diabetes is either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

According to the statistic provided by the International Diabetes Federation, 425 million people have diabetes in the world and 159 million people in the western Pacific Region.

Sadly, according to the prediction, by 2045 people infected by diabetes will rise to 183 million.

There were over 3.492.600 cases of diabetes in Malaysia in 2017.

Type 1 diabetes is a condition caused by the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas.

The actual causes of type 2 diabetes are unknown. However, researchers do know that genetic mutation and unhealthy diet and lifestyle are major risk factors of insulin resistance, the most common cause of type 2 diabetes.

Lisa M. Leontis RN, ANP-C and Amy Hess-Fischl in the article explaining Type 2 Diabetes Causes -
Genetics and Lifestyle Choices Play a Role wrote, " Two people have the same genetic mutation. One of them eats well, watches their cholesterol, and stays physically fit, and the other is overweight (BMI greater than 25) and inactive. The person who is overweight and inactive is much more likely to develop type 2 diabetes because certain lifestyle choices greatly influence how well your body uses insulin".

These results suggested that by keeping your body fit and active accompanied with a healthy diet, one can totally prevent the onset of insulin resistance, the main cause of type 2 diabetes, regardless of other risk factors.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belongings to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan cultivated around the world in suitable climate region for commercial profits due to its health benefits.

Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc. It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results

The Ingredients The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.

In the study of PCOS induced in Charles Foster female rats by oral administration of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor letrozole (0.5 mg/kg body weight, 21 days), before administration of herbal Aloe vera, researchers found that all rats exhibits hyperglycemic and 90% of them also showed elevated plasma triglycerides, elevated LDL cholesterol levels, and lowered plasma HDL cholesterol levels indicative of a dyslipidemic profile.

After injection of An AVG formulation (1 ml (10 mg)/day, 30 days) orally, in selected rats with PCOS positive rats with an aberrant lipid profile, researchers showed that* AVG treated PCOS rats exhibited significant reduction in plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, with an increase in HDL cholesterol.

* The gel treatment also caused reversion of abnormal estrous cyclicity, glucose intolerance, and lipid metabolizing enzyme activities, bringing them to normal.

These results suggested that AVG processes phyto components with anti-hyperlipidemic effects and it has shown efficacy in the management of not only PCOS but also the associated metabolic complication of dyslipidemia.

Further to confirm Aloe vera anti-insulin resistance effect induction of type 2 diabetes, researchers at the University of Exeter conducted a review of literature from the database in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Biosis, and the Cochrane Library.

10 selected studies suggest that oral administration of aloe vera might be a useful adjunct for lowering blood glucose in diabetic patients as well as for reducing blood lipid levels in patients with hyperlipidemia.

Topical application of aloe vera was not an effective substance in preventative for radiation-induced injuries. However, the application might be effective for genital herpes and psoriasis.

Moreover, in the animal model to examine the effects of processed Aloe vera gel (PAG) on the course of established diet-induced non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) in C57BL/6J mice fed with high-fat diet.

Before injection of Aloe vera gel (PAG), mice exhibited diet-induced obesity (DIO) with blood glucose levels above 180mg/dl, after administrating PAG for 8 weeks, researchers showed that

* Aloe vera gel (PAG) exerts a strong effect in reduced circulating blood glucose concentrations to a normal level in these DIO mice.

* The administration of PAG significantly decreased plasma insulin.

Additionally, PAG antidiabetic effects were confirmed by intraperitoneal glucose tolerance testing. PAG injection also appeared to lower blood glucose levels by decreasing insulin resistance.

Dr. Kim K, the lead author at the final report, wrote, "the oral administration of PAG prevents the progression of NIDDM-related symptoms in high-fat-diet-fed mice, and suggest that PAG could be useful for treating NIDDM".

Taken together, herbal aloe vera gel may be considered as a functional food in decreased insulin resistance and prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

Bean Fibers, The Best and Easy Way to Prevent Abnormal Levels of Blood Glucose, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton, Master of Nutrition

Epidemiological studies suggested that bean fiber may be used as therapeutically functional food in reduced risk of hyperglycemia.

Hyperglycemia is a condition characterized by abnormal high blood sugar in the blood stream. According to glucose test, any one who have fasting levels over 7.0 mmol/L (126 mg/dL) and 2-hours postprandial (after a meal) levels greater than 11.0 mmol/L (200 mg/dL) are hyperglycemic.

According to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, dietary fiber intake daily and regularly not only lowers blood cholesterol levels but also normalizes blood glucose and insulin levels, thus reducing risk and treatment of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Unfortunately, recommended intakes, 20-35 g/day for healthy adults and age plus 5 g/day for children, are not being met, according to statistic.
.
In the concern of high fat Wertern diet in risk of hyperglycemia, Dr. Mbikay M, the lead author in the study of "Variable effects of gender and Western diet on lipid and glucose homeostasis in aged PCSK9-deficient C57BL/6 mice CSK9PC57BL/6" wrote,
* On Female tested subjects, Western diet showed comparable plasma TC and HDL-C, but lower LDL-C, higher plasma glucose, and normal glucose disposal despite impaired GSIS compared to normal diet.

* On Male, both normal and Western diets, showed lower plasma TC, HDL-C, and LDL-C, similarly elevated plasma glucose, glucose intolerance, and impaired GSIS.

These results suggested normal diet have a strong effect in reduced risk of hyperglydemia in female compared to Western diet and both diets are considered to have a significantly positive effect in increased risk of hyperglydemia.

In a randomized, single blind, crossover design study (food intake: n=22; glycemia: n=10) with 5 liquid meals distributing similar amounts of macronutrients (C - control shake, OB - oat bran shake, F - flaxseed shake, WB - white bean extract shake, and UB - unripe banana flour shake) consumed in five non-consecutive days, researchers after examining the returned questionnaire from participants after 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes ingestion of each shake, suggested that
* In compared to control, intake of white bean extract shake showed a significantly increased fiber component.

* Bean extract exhibited a strong glycemic control through expression of an incremental areas under the curves (iAUC).

Additionally, in the study of children completed a trial of 4 different breakfasts, participated children were  given in random order, with 3 diets differed in fiber content and the fourth diet contained soya beans as part (38%) of the dietary fiber source,

Then,  children in all groups were asked to exercise vigorously for an hour each morning and to rest for an hour. Blood samples drawn from children reveal the following results.
* There were no difference of blood glucose levels on the high-fiber diet in compared to those on the medium-fiber diet.

*  Children fed with bean diet scored a significantly lowest mean blood glucose level, and

*The effect of glycemic control of blood glucose of bean diet was last into the hour before lunch.

Even with the better control of blood glucose, the bean diet was found to be unacceptable diet among children, in compared to the liked of the high- and medium-fibre diets, which were as popular as the low-fiber diet.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that bean fibers may have a positive effect in attenuated risk of abnormal high blood glucose, a major risk factors in risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
