How to Alleviate Pain Caused by Muscles and Blood Vessels Constriction Naturally, Medline Model Studies Reveal

Kyle J. Norton

Anise may have potential and substantial relaxant effects in reduced over expression of vessel and muscle constrictions in precipitation of pain, some scientists suggested.

Anise is a flowering plant of the species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belongings to the family Apiaceae native to to Egypt and the Mediterranean region, used in traditional herbal medicine as fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, ....

Chemical comstituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

According to the evaluation of Anise 3 hidroalcoholic extracts claimed to have a substantial effect in tracheal and ileal smooth muscles in 3 different concentration of doses at 40% (HA(40%)), 60% (HA(60%)) or 80% (HA(80%)) researchers found that
* Application of all extracts at half maximum effect,50 microg/mL EC(50) inhibited acetylcholine-induced contraction.

* However, the extract HA(60%) at 5-50 microg/mL(EC(5-50)) concentration dependently relaxed acetylcholine-pre-contracted tissues and HA(40%) and HA(80%) did not exert relaxant action in any volume out of indicated range.

These results suggested that the substantial effect in tracheal and ileal smooth muscles of Anise was associated to dose dependent manner.

In other words, only certain concentrations of Anise hidroalcoholic extract are effective in reduced muscles and vessels constriction in induction of pain.

Injection of muscle constriction substances such as N(G)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 100 microM), 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ, 3 microM) and oxyhemoglobin (10 microM) were also inhibited by HA(60%) in doses concentration dependent manner through the influence of muscle relaxation.

These inhibition suggested that Anise not only aemeliorates the tracheal and ileal smooth muscles pain caused by natural spasmodic activities but also pain caused by injection of muscle and vessel contraction substances.

Moreover, in additional treatment of nitric oxide synthase(L-NAME) in induced production of vascular smooth muscle cells and enhanced the maximal contraction induced by acetylcholine, administration of HA(60%) expressed a strong activity in modulated NO contractile response, stimulated by primary transmitter released by inhibitory nerves through cyclic GMP-dependent which is found to have a implication in the regulation of smooth muscle relaxation and other independent mechanisms

Further observation also indicated that injection of HA 60% showed an insignificant effect in calcium chloride(CaCl(2))-induced muscle contraction.

Dr. Tirapelli CR, the lead author at the Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto. said, "The relaxant action displayed by Pimpinella anisum justifies its use in the folk medicine as an antispasmodic agent".

In isolated tracheal chains of the guinea pig induced by 10 microM methacholine in non-incubated tissues (group 1) and incubated tissues with 1 microM propranolol and 1 microM chlorpheniramine (group 2), to investigate the relaxant effect of Pimpinella anisum aqueous and ethanol extracts and essential oil, researchers showed that injections Anise aqueous and ethanol extracts, essential oil and theophylline, a conventional medicine used to relaxing bronchial smooth muscle in COPD and asthma patients display a substantial activity in exhibited relaxant effects in compared to those of controls.

There were no significant difference of both Pimpinella anisum aqueous and ethanol extracts in promoted muscle relaxation but both exerted lower efficacy in compared to those of theophylline.

Interestingly, the applications of essential oil and 10 nM atropine, a muscle relaxant medicine, used as nerve anticholinergic agent, blocked the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the central and the peripheral nervous system in responsible for the involuntary movement of smooth muscles and reduced the muscle contraction caused by methacholine, a substance used to tighten the lung muscle and air way for test of asthma.

These results indicated a potential activity of bronchodilatory and anticholinergic effects of essential oil, aqueous, and ethanol extracts from Anise.

However, researchers also found that application of all doses expressed insignificant effects in inhibited histamine (H(1)), smooth muscles, vascular endothelial cells, the heart, and the central nervous system or stimulated beta(2)-adrenergic receptor in binding to epinephrine.

Dr. Boskabady MH, after taking into account of other co founders, said, "....showed that the relaxant effect of this plant is not due to an inhibitory effect of histamine (H(1)) or stimulatory effect of beta(2)-adrenergic receptors, but due to inhibitory effects on muscarinic receptors".

Collectively, the efficacy of Anise in elevated muscle and blood vessel pain was associated to  numbers of mechanism, not invoked the constriction caused by allergens or stimulants.

Taken together, Anise aqueous and ethanol extracts and essential oil may be used as adjunct herbal medicine in reduced risk of diseases associated to spasmodic muscle contraction in induction of muscle cramp accompanied by a sudden burst of pain caused by abnormal nerve stimulation or by abnormal activity of the muscles and vessels.

How to Prevent Over Expression of Melanin in Induction of Age Spots Naturally, US National Library of Medicine Studies Reveal

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced age spot caused by over expression of melanin, some scientists suggested.

People with light complexion and lots of sun exposure over the years are found to associate with higher prevalent risk.

The results of these investigation were carried out by some world wide institutes, including the Chongqing Institute of Forensic Science.

You can view the publication through some online medical literature, if you want to know more of these subjects.

Age spot is the over expression of skin pigment in the surface of the skin, probably caused by Skin aging, sun exposure, or other forms of ultraviolet (UV) light exposure,....

Age spot may also be caused by hormone imbalance in induction of increased production of melanin, which is responsible for darkening the skin.

Green tea, is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit and known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

In the investigation of Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), used as a constituent of cosmetic products, researchers found that applicationg EGCG exerts a significant effect as an antioxidant in exhibited anti-pigmentation properties.

Through measuring hyaluronic acid synthase (HAS) and hyaluronidase (HYAL) gene expression, EGCG also promoted skin hydration, through increased the expression of natural moisturizing factor-related gene, including Hyaluronan synthase (HAS)-1, and (HAS)-2.

HA synthase enzymes (HAS) amolescule with function of synthesized hyaluronan (HA) plays an essential role in protected skin fibroblasts against apoptosis, due to environment stress exposure.

Hyaluronidase ((HYAL) is an enzyme that cleaves HA.

In UVB irradiation conditions, application of EGCG protected the expression of decreased level of HYAL found in all tissues with 50% present in skin, thus reducing HaCaT cells in formation of free radicals and decreased in cell viability.

Melanin produced in melanocytes, under exposure UVB irradiation  with an aim to protect skin cells aganist UVB radiation damage.

Years of frequent and prolonged sun exposure and over expression of melanin may inducent aging spot

In other words, EGCG not only exhibited a strong effect in reduced over secretion of melanin but also enhanced cells integrity against forming of aging spot due to exposure UVB irradiation

HaCaT widely used in scientific research of epidermis, is a spontaneously immortalized human keratinocyte cell line isolated from adult human skin.

Dr. Kim E, the lead authors said, "EGCG might be used as a cosmetic ingredient with positive effects on skin hydration, moisture retention, and wrinkle formation, in addition to radical scavenging activity and reduction of melanin generation".

Furthermore, in confirmation of green tea efficacy in reduced over expression of skin pigment by evaluating the fatty acids contents in the green tea oil,  researchers indicated that all 3 major fatty acids isolated from oil were oleic acid (87.93±0.19%), stearic (5.14±0.06%) and palmitic (5.08±0.12%) acids.

Single application of each fatty acid demonstrated a strong protection of the cell viabilities through their antioxidant activity.

Moreover, the antioxidant activity of 3% tea seed oil exerted a greater cellular protection with cell viability of 90.38±7.77% in compared to other concentrations.

Some researchers suggested that green tea polyphenols and theophylline as polyphenol nanoparticles (PNs) may reduce skin aging through nanoparticle formation process involved copolymerization of monomers through exhibiting its free radicals scavenging activities.

Taking altogether, green tea and its bioactive compound such as EGCG may be used as natural and functional food for reduced over expression of melanin and skin pigment in induction of age spots.

How To Prevent Platelet Aggregation and High Blood Pressure in Induction of Cardiovascular Disease Naturally, MEDLINE Studies Find

By Kyle J. Norton

In compared to herbal medicine; food therapy may even takes longer to ease symptoms, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of the disease.

Adding a portion of beet in your daily diet may have a significant effect in improved blood circulation through anti platelet aggregation and anti hypertension activities, a recent and renowned study suggested.

Platelet aggregation is natural reaction of wound healing process of blood clotting in damage and injure of our body, to prevent infection and inflammation.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet and belongings to the amaranth family, is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.

According to the Barts & the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, dietary rich of nitrate vegetable or fruit, such as beet showed to exhibited vascular function in promotion of blood vessel and blood circulation function, thus reducing risk CVD.

In healthy volunteers, ingestion of a dietary nitrate load (beetroot juice 500 mL), approximately 3 hours after, correlated with peak increases in plasma nitrite concentration showed a significant effect in attenuated platelet aggregation in response to collagen and adenosine diphosphate (ADP), in cell energy metabolism. And decreased plasma nitrite, may block the decrease in blood pressure and abolished the inhibitory effects on platelet aggregation.

This findings suggested that regular drinking of dietary nitrate from food sources is necessary for maintenance of a healthy heart through decreased platelet aggregation and reduced blood pressure.

In 2 randomised crossover studies each in 24 (12 of each sex) healthy subjects with oral administrated dietary nitrate (250 ml beetroot juice) or potassium nitrate capsules (KNO3, 8 mmol) vs placebo control on platelet reactivity, researchers found that group treated with nitrate component shows a strong inhibition of platelet aggregation.

The study also demonstrated that inorganic nitrate ingestion, whether via the diet or through supplementation, may have a gender preference in decreased platelet reactivity in healthy males but not females counterpart.

Dr. Velmurugan S, the lead author said, " dietary nitrate (may be benefit) as an adjunct to current antiplatelet therapies to prevent atherothrombotic complications".

Furthermore, according to the review of the National Heart and Lung Institute, in vitro and in vivo, dietary nitrite exhibited cGMP in mediated the levels of platelet aggregation through expression of nitric oxide actions,

And, in a model of thromboembolic radiolabeled platelet aggregation, injection of dietary nitrate or supplement showed a significantly inhibited platelet function in eNOS(-/-) mice.

Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), a cyclic nucleotide plays both a stimulatory and an inhibitory role in platelet activation depending on concentration and timing.

NO also are best known for its function in regulating blood pressure and that impaired NO bioactivity is an important component of hypertension

Collectively, beet with high amount of dietary nitrate may be used as functional food combined conventional treatment in reduced risk of platelet aggregation and htpertension in induction of CVD.

People who are taking anti platelet aggregation medicine should consult with their doctors before applying large amount beet juice or juice with high concentration of nitrate.

How To Protect Against Retinal Degeneration, US National Library of Medicine Studies Show

Green tea phenolic content may have a sustainable and therapeutic effect in reduced risk and progression of retinal degeneration, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Retinal degeneration is a macular disease characterized by impaired vision, night blindness, retinal detachment, light sensitivity, tunnel vision, and loss of peripheral vision to total loss of vision.

The evaluation of green tea effect in risk of retinal degeneration was found to be implicated by several mechanisms through numbers of aspects.

In ROS implication of oxidative stress-induced degeneration of the retina occurred in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma, application of green tea polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) exhibited antioxidant effect as free radical scavenger in ameliorated chain reaction of ROS in causing loss of neuron with direct effects of retinal function and reduced cytotoxicy of free radicals in induction of retinal cellular apoptosis.

Administration of green tea phynolic compound exerted 10 times more effective in treatment of retinal degeneration, in compared to potent medicine trolox (vitamin E analogue) in attenuating lipid peroxidation caused by the nitric oxide donor, sodium nitroprusside (SNP), according to the study.

Particularly, green tea epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) inhibited a significant decrease of photoreceptor-specific markers (RET-P1, rhodopsin kinase), an indication of photoreceptor cells in the transition to degenerate prematurely, eventually resulting in blindness.

Also, the application reduced an increase in the cell death marker caspase-3 caused by oxidative stress induced by injection of sodium nitroprusside (SNP)

Caspase 3 is an important marker of apoptosis and one of side effect of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is cyanide toxicity, that can induce over expression ROS in facilitated free radical chain reaction.

According to the observation by Western blotting techniques, SNP was completely inhibited by EGCG injection in ameliorated the detrimental effects to the retina.

Dr. Zhang B, the co-author said, "Since oxidative stress has been implicated in retinal diseases like AMD and glaucoma this study provides "proof of principle" for the idea that daily intake of EGCG may help individuals suffering from retinal diseases where oxidative stress is implicated".

More interestingly, BALB/cJ mice treated with either EGCG or saline via intraperitoneal (IP) injection, and then placed under constant cool white light-emitting diode (LED) light (10,000 lux) for 5 h, showed a strong protective effect on the retina against light damage (LD) in compared to the control group.

In the examine the retinal structure and function after LD, according to the optical coherence tomography (OCT) and electroretinography (ERG), application of green tea EGCG improved significantly higher ERG amplitudes for all three wave types through inducing morphologic protection of photoreceptors in compared to control.

Moreover, the green tea extract bio-compound also decreased oxidative stress through increase the mRNA level of the antioxidant expression of Sod2, a manganese-dependent superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) before LD and 24 h after LD.

Dr. Qi S1,, the lead author said, "The IP injection of EGCG attenuated the detrimental effects of bright light on the retinas of BALB/cJ mice by protecting the structure and function of the retina".

Importantly, in study to evaluate green tea EGCG effect in reduced glutamate and induced excitotoxicity in the retina, researchers conducted a study of female Wistar rats (n = 171) randomly assigned into
*. A normal control group (n = 9);
*. Saline control group with intravitreal saline injections (n = 54);
*. NMDA control group with an intravitreal NMDA injection;
*. Intraperitoneal saline injections (n = 54); and
*. NMDA study group (n = 54) receiving an intravitreal NMDA injection plus intraperitoneal EGCG (25 mg/kg) injections.

Observation of the groups at 2 weeks after additional injection of NMDA, showed that group treated with intraperitoneal application of EGCG reduced a significantly less marked NMDA-associated loss of retinal ganglion cell, through
* Inhibition of decreasing retinal ganglion cell layer (GCL), neurons located near the inner surface (the ganglion cell layer) of the retina of the eye in received visual information from photoreceptors.

These results were observed by differentiation of Thy-1 immunoreactivity in several areas of the immature and adult human brain in expression of retinal ganglion cell damage.

Thy-1 is mostly is expressed by the ganglion cells within the retina and used to index ganglion cell death after ischemia and excitotoxicity.

and NMDA excitotoxicity is associated to the death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs).

Taken together, there is no doubt that Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a major polyphenol of green tea, may be used combination with standard therapy for protection and treatment of retinal degenerative disease

How to Protect Pancreatic Islet (β-cells and Size of Islet) Against Onset of Diabetes Naturally, Medline Model Studies Reveal

Kyle J. Norton

Chaste tree berry may have a potential in stimulated pancreatic islet regeneration in reduced risk of development and treatment of Type I and II diabetes, some researchers suggested..

Diabetes is a condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream in regulation of levels of glucose.

The disease are either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reaction of cells in the immune system.

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belongings to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of year as anaphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

According to the study, diabetes rats induced by streptozotocin treated with extract of chaste tree berry displayed a significant effect in increased volume density of pancreatic islet as well as percentage of β-cells and size of islet.

Decrease volume and weight of pancreatic islet is associated to juvenile-onset, insulin-dependent diabetes.
Percentage of β-cells are greatly reduced already at clinical onset of type II diabetes.

However, reduction of numbers of β-cells are more moderate than in insulin-dependent juvenile-onset diabetic subjects and in some case it does not account for the disease.

And, altered islet composition and disproportionate loss of size of islet are associated linearly to patients with type II diabetes.

Pancreatic islets are the regions of the pancreas containing hormone-producing cells,

Dr. Oche O, the lead researcher said, "plant extracts, (exhibited) regeneration of β-cells along with β-cells repairs, in compared to non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet cells".

Furthermore, the study also found that the levels of total bilirubin, direct bilirubin and unconjugated bilirubin are significantly lower in treated group in comparison to control.

In compared to healthy control, the median bilirubin level was significantly higher in the diabetes.

More important, in D-galactose induces pancreatic disorder along in aging mouse model, treatment of Vitex agnus-castus (VAC) demonstrated potential pancreatic protective and hypoglycemic effects through improved the size of pancreatic islets that were decreased in aged and D-galactose groups.

Galactose D is a type of monosaccharide sugar, considered as sweet as glucose.

In a total of 72 adult female Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice (weighing 30-35 g) divided into 6 groups: control, VAC hydroalcoholic extract, D-galactose, D-galactose + VAC hydroalcoholic extract, aged, aged + VAC hydroalcoholic extract through subcutaneous injection of D-galactose for 45 days and then VAC hydroalcoholic extract gavaged twice a day in the last 7 days.

24 h after the last drug and extract administrations, group treated with Chaste tree berry extract or combinations of the extract showed an increased insulin and decreased serum glucose and D-galactose level in compared to other treatment groups.

The study also found, "Despite the size of pancreatic islets decreased in aged and D-galactose groups, ........... VAC hydroalcoholic extract has hypoglycemic and pancreatic protective effects in natural aged and aging model mice".

In fact, there is a report indicated that oral administration of iridoid glucoside isolated from chaste tree berry once daily to diabetic rats for the period of 30 days is effective as glibenclamide, a known hypoglycemic drug, at concentration of 50 mg/kg body weight.

Promissingly, iridoid glucoside reversed hyperglycemia-induced biochemical changes to near normal levels.

Collectively, Chaste tree berry may be used as functional food for treatment of Type I and Type II diabetes through the hypoglycemic and pancreatic protective effects.

However, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its antidiabetes possibilities.

How to Improve Your Digestive Functioning Naturally, MEDLINE Studies Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Fennel may have a therapeutic and enhanced effect in improve digestive system in absorbed nutrients and fluids from foods intake, some scientists suggested.

The result of this efficacy was published online by several respectable institutes, including the University of Illinois at Chicago and Afyon Kocatepe University.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

According to the study, researchers set out a criteria and guideline to investigate the effect of fennel in gram-negative bacterium Helicobacter pylori (HP), the microorganisms has been associated with the development of gastritis and peptic ulcer disease to confirm the theory of used in traditional medicine fennel to treat a wide range of ailments, including gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as dyspepsia, gastritis and peptic ulcer disease (PUD), application of methanol extracts of botanicals with a MIC of 50 microg/mL included Achillea millefolium, Foeniculum vulgare (seed), exerted a significantly inhibitory effect against all susceptibility of 15 HP strains.

These results suggested that injection of fennel displays a potential effect in balanced the ratio of micro organisms in the gastrointestinal tract, thus improving the function in absorbed and distributed nutrients to the body.

These properties reassured the herbal medicine used in practice for treatment of numbers symptoms of digestive disorder.

Furthermore, in animal model with rat induced gastric lesions induced by injection of ethanol, application of aqueous extracts of Foeniculum vulgare (FVE) showed a strong activity in inhibited the ulcerogenic expression through its antioxidant activities..

In observation of the efficacy of 60 minutes pre administration of the doses of fennel extracts at 75, 150 and 300 mg/kg, with famotidine, histamine H₂ receptor antagonist with function to inhibit stomach acid production at the dose of 20 mg/kg, before injection of ethanol, researchers found that
* Pre treatment of all doses exert significant gastric protective effects in reduced injure and damage caused by injection of ethanol.

* Fennel extract demonstrates a theurateutic activity linearly in compared to other doses and control at dose of 300 mg/kg

* These activities was associated to reduce the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, a marker in expression of severe levels of oxiadive stress.

Additional analysis, also suggested that fennel stimulated gastro-protect effect through its antioxidants and facilitated production of antioxidants in the body tissues in inhibited the over expression of free radicals, thus maintaining the ratio of micro organisms in the digestive tract and its functioning.

After, taking into account of other co and con founders, researchers also suggested that the results in part may also be attributed to antioxidant in ameliorated lipid peroxidation.

The above differentiation were supported by the joint report lead by the Joint Keio University, in the investigation of fennel properties in associated to functional dyspepsia (FD), a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by persistent or recurrent postprandial upper abdominal discomfort and epigastric pain.

Truly, delayed gastric emptying and impaired gastric accommodation was found to play important roles in the development of FD.

Anethole (1-methoxy-4-((E)-propenyl)-benzene), a major component of fennel essential oil, in rodents exerted a huge effect in improved clonidine-induced delayed gastric emptying, orally.

Also, application of fennel oil plus Anchu-san (a Japanese herbal medicine containing anethole)  demonstrated an important activity in reduced risk of functional dyspepsia (FD) through restoring the delayed gastric emptying.

In other words,  anethole processes a gastro protective efficacy through stimulating gastric accommodation.

Taken together, whole fennel, fennel essential oil and its bioactive compound anethole may be used as secondary application in reduced risk and treatment of digestive disorder.

Adding a portion of fennel in your diet may improve the digestive function in absorption nutrients and fluids from the food intake.

However, intake of supplement should be taken with extreme care as overdose may cause acute liver toxicity.

Tomatoes may have a profound and positive effect in improved skin health, some scientists suggested.

The results of analysis were carried out by several universities and research companies, including IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine and published on numbers of online literature.

Tomato is a red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belongings to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, tomato is grown world wide for commercial purpose
and often in green house.

In the aim to reaffirm tomatoes effect in reduced negative impact against ultraviolet (UV)A/B and UVA1 radiation at a molecular level, scientists at the IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine launched a study of the tomato bioactive compounds lutein and lycopene photoprotective effect on human skin health.

The purpose of the study was to assess the two active treatments containing either lycopene (TNC) or lutein to test for their capacity in decreased expression of UVA1 the radiation-inducible genes HO1, ICAM1 and MMP1

Gene heme oxygenase 1 (HO1) is an enzyme with function to to protect cells from oxidative damage, in this case it was the UVA1

Gene intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1) also known as CD54 (Cluster of Differentiation 54) is a protein with function in adhesion phenomena involved in the immune response.

Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) also known as interstitial collagenase and fibroblast collagenase is an enzyme with function to break down collagens located in the ECM.

The placebo-controlled, double-blinded, randomized, crossover study included 65 healthy volunteers allocated to four treatment groups and subjected to a 2-week washout phase, followed by two 12-week treatment phases separated by another 2 weeks of washout.

Volunteers started either with active treatment and were then switched to placebo, or vice versa.

24 hours after the irradiation phase skin, biopsies were taken from untreated, UVA/B- and UVA1-irradiated skin for subsequent reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis of gene expression.

Interestingly, after taking into account of other co and con founders, researchers found that lycopene isolated from tomato exerts a strong activities in completely inhibited UVA1- and UVA/B-induced upregulation of heme-oxygenase 1, intercellular adhesion molecule 1 and matrix metallopeptidase 1, through restrict the transformation of mRNA in initiated cell changes.

Blood samples taken from lycopene treatment group, showed a clinically relative protective effect of skin cells through its inhibition of levels of oxidative stress induced by UVA1- and UVA/B exposure in compared to other groups.

In compared to lycopene active group, group treated with lutein injection provided complete protection taken in the first period but showed insignificantly effects in the second sequence.

These results suggested that there must be some unknown mechanisms to cause the reduced levels of
lutein in the second sequence in compared to TNC.

Dr. Grether-Beck S, the lead author said, " the role of these genes as indicators of oxidative stress, photodermatoses and photoageing" and " these results might indicate that TNC and lutein could protect against solar radiation-induced health damage".

Furthermore, in re evalueat the effect of Carotenoids in skin photoprotection against UV radiation through analysis of the collection of dermal biopsies of healthy humans (N=27) and blood samples, researchers reconfirmed that lycopene and beta-carotene made up the majority of carotenoids in both skin and plasma followed by beta-cryptoxanthin.

These expressions suggested that lycopene and beta-carotene may play important role in improved skin health through its antioxidant activity in compared to other members of carotenoids such as
dihydroxycarotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin.

In other words, skin of human is relatively enriched in lycopene and beta-carotene, compared to lutein and zeaxanthin, possibly reflecting a specific function of hydrocarbon carotenoids in human skin photoprotection.

Additionally, in the examine the skin collected from 74 men and women with diverse skin pigmentation using the Resonance Raman spectroscopy (RRS) to measure of the palm, inner arm, and outer arm were obtained at baseline, 1 wk, 2 wk, 1 mo, 3 mo, and 6 mo (to maximize seasonal variation), researchers with no surprise found that total carotenoids across time are 0.97 (palm), 0.95 (inner arm), and 0.93 (outer arm).

Similarly, assessment of lycopene by RRS was significantly correlated with lycopene assessed by HPLC of dermal biopsies (r = 0.74, P < 0.0001).

These finding once again indicated the protective effect of tomato and bioactive ingredient lycopene in skin health in compared to other compounds.

Taken together, there is no doubt that tomato with its major bioactive phytochemical may be considered as functional food in improved skin health against skin damage caused by numbers of negative implications including oxidative stress, photodermatoses and photoageing
