According to the Patanjali Yogpeeth, obese patients participated in a 6 days yoga lesson showed a significant decreased the BMI, the fat-free mass and total cholesterol.

Yoga, one of the technique used in Ayurvedic Medicine, a system of healing that originated in ancient India, for encouraging self healing through expression of internal and external well  beings, may have processed a potential efficacy for obesity controlling, the study filed in PubMed suggested.

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated overtime with BMI index over 30.  According to statistic, over 68% of US population are either over weight or obese.

According to general belief, obese individuals are susceptible to a number of health conditions and complications, including cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, accelerated atherosclerosis, diabetes, various types of arthritis, stroke, chronic lower back pain, (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) non-alcoholic fatty liver disease,........

Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a total of 47 persons assessed on the first and last day of a yoga and diet change program, with 6 days of the intervention between assessments, yoga combination with diet showed a decrease in BMI (1.6 percent), waist and hip circumferences, fat-free mass, total cholesterol (7.7 percent decrease), high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (8.7 percent decrease), fasting serum leptin levels (44.2 percent decrease) and an increase in postural stability and hand grip strength.

Fasting serum leptin level is an analysis to measure the rate of the storage of fat, found in connective tissue, or adipocytes. In obese, levels of serum leptin are higher in compared to normal weight individuals, according to the Temple University School of Medicine.

The study also indicated that intensive yoga program with a change in diet may pose certain risks but benefits are found substantially out weight the concerns through better postural stability, grip strength, reduced waist and hip circumferences and a decrease in serum leptin levels as well as enhancing obese's determination to yoga learning and participation.

In deed, the nonrandomized, single-arm interventional study conducted from August 2012 to March 2015 at Integral Health Clinic, Department of Physiology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India insisted that patients who engaged in yoga exercise of all kinds not only improved quality of life and health after short-term yoga-based lifestyle intervention but also exhibited physical, psychological well being in both male and female subgroups.

These benefits are also extended to decreased significantly body weight, BMI, total body fat, waist and hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and fasting glucose in obese participants.

Furthermore, in a randomized controlled trial with parallel groups (Yoga and Control groups) on 80 male obese with Body Mass Index (BMI) between 25 to 35 kg/cm2 divided into two equal groups in which 72 subjects (yoga n = 37 and control n=35) completed the trial, yoga group showed a impressive improvement in anthropometric and psychological parameters such as waist, percentage body fat, PSS in the final outcome in compared control after 14 weeks of yoga training with additional yoga practice for the next 3 months.

Taking altogether, obese patients participated in yoga lessons showed a significant change in obese control through physical and mental well beings expression of that may lead to weight loss and reduced complications.

Yoga respiratory exercises consisted of rapid forced expirations followed by inspiration through the right nostril, inspiratory apnoea with generation of intrathoracic negative pressure, and expiration through the left nostril may have a strong and positive effect in enhanced pulmonary function, some institute studies suggested.

Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates..

In a review of literature published on the database from Alternative Health Watch, the Physical Education Index, Medline,(®) and the SPORTdiscus to investigate the effect of yoga in increased lung function of healthy individuals, researchers found that most studies expressed an over all improvement of yoga intervention in lung function measured by maximum inspiratory pressure, maximum expiratory pressure, maximum voluntary ventilation, forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second, and peak expiratory flow rate.

Maximum inspiratory pressure is a marker of respiratory muscle function and strength generated against an occluded airway beginning at the volume of air present in the lungs at the end of passive expiration.
Maximum expiratory pressure, is a measure attained by a patient attempting to exhale into a closed system.
Maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) is a measure of maximum of air inhaled and exhaled within one minute.
Forced vital capacity (FVC) is the amount of air forcibly exhaled from the lungs after taking the deepest breath.
Forced expiratory volume (FEV) is a measurement of air a person can exhale after taking a forced breath.
Peak expiratory flow rate is a measurement of maximum speed of expiration, measured by a peak flow meter,

After taking into account of other con founders, researchers emphasized
1. The positive effect of lung function can only be achieve with yoga class offered at least 10 weeks practicing yoga breathing exercises.
2. Interestingly enough, less-fit individuals showed a greater improvements in pulmonary functioning compared to healthy individuals
3. Greater achievement also depended in length of yoga engagement

Other researchers in support of yoga exercise in improved lung function also conducted a prospective open-label study of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), recruited from among those followed at the neurology outpatient clinic of a university hospital in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. randomized assigned to breathing exercises three times a day for 10 months, found that in 26 completed the study, yoga breathing exercises resulted in a significant increase in airway resistance in (FVC) and first measurement of Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV1).

Airway resistance in rate of (FEV1/FVC) measured by spirometry is much lower in patients with pulmonary disease in compared to healthy individuals.

More importantly, in the study to compare pulmonary functions and diffusion capacity in patients of bronchial asthma before and after yogic intervention of 2 months with 60 stable asthmatic-patients  randomized into two groups i.e group 1 (Yoga training group, n=30) and group 2 (control group, n=30), researchers after taking into account of other con founders filed the following results
1. Yoga group showed a significant effect in over all lung function improvement, according to the assays in Transfer factor of the lung for carbon monoxide (TLCO), forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1st sec (FEV1), peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) and slow vital capacity (SVC) in compared to control
2. Yoga participated group also improved quality of life

Dr. Singh S, the led author said, "pranayama & yoga breathing and stretching postures are used to increase respiratory stamina, relax the chest muscles, expand the lungs, raise energy levels, and calm the body".

Taking altogether, tt is safe to recommend yoga as a secondary therapeutic therapy in combined with standard treatment in improved pulmonary functions in healthy individuals and patients with pulmonary disease.

***Alternative Therapy: Yoga In Regulation of Glucose Metabolism(Revised)

Kyle J. Norton (Scholar, Master of Nutrients, All right reserved)

Glucose metabolism is a natural process of our body to convert carbohydrate intake into energy.

Yoga practice may have a positive and profound impact in improved glucose metabolism, thus reducing risk of early onset of diabetes.

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a prospective, randomized, intervention controlled trial with 90 adolescents aged between 15 and 18 years who met the Rotterdam criteria for PCOS. assigned either to yoga group practiced suryanamaskara, asanas, pranayama, and meditation 1 hour per day each day for 12 weeks or practiced conventional physical exercises, researchers found that
1. Yoga intervention group expressed a similarly significant improvement in fasting insulin, fasting blood glucose in compared to control and
2. In  homeostasis model assessment, yoga group showed a strong impact in insulin resistance in compared to control

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome(PCOS) is an endocrinologic diseases among reproductive-age women caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interfere with the function of the normal ovaries and associate to an increased risk for metabolic disorder.

Homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) is a method used to measure the levels of insulin resistance and beta-cell function.

After taking into account of other co founders, Dr.Nidhi R, the lead author said, "Yoga was found to be more effective than conventional physical exercises in improving glucose, lipid, and insulin values, including insulin resistance values, in adolescent girls with PCOS independent of anthropometric changes".

Interestingly, in a study to examine possible changes of brain metabolism due to Yoga meditation with PET scans performed in 8 members of a Yoga meditation group during the normal control state (C) and Yoga meditative relaxation (YMR), scientists indicated that
1. There were no change for intergroup comparison, particularly in specific focal changes or changes in the interhemispheric differences in metabolism
2. However the ratios of frontal vs. occipital rCMRGlc were significantly elevated during YMR

PET scan used a special dye with radioactive tracers in the imaging test allows your doctor to examine a specific disease in your body.

Frontal vs. occipital rCMRGlc is one of linear ventricular measurement to evaluate ventricular size in pediatric hydrocephalus patients for glucose metabolic rates in the brain.

Further analysis also suggested that yoga intervention may have a regional glucose metabolism through expression of a slight increase of frontal rCMRGlc and a more pronounced reduction in primary and secondary visual centers.

More importantly, in a controlled trial within an university-affiliated hospital. 173 Chinese men and women aged 18 or above were assigned to either the yoga intervention group (n = 87) or the control group (n = 86) found that throughout analysis involving the entire study population revealed that the yoga group achieved greater decline in fasting glucose in compared to control.

After considering of other con founders in the study, researchers opinionated that A 12-week Hatha yoga intervention improved glucose and lipid metabolic risk profiles and HRQoL in Chinese adults with and without MetS.

Taking altogether, Yoga may be used as a therapeutic intervention in reduced risk of abnormal glucose metabolism, thus reducing risk of diabetes.

Yoga, an practice may be considered as an integrated form of physical exercise in reduced symptoms and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, some studies suggested.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is condition of digestive disorder affecting the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach with symptoms of heartburn or acid indigestion.

Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the study to compared the efficacy of yoga intervention and frequent consumption of over-the-counter or prescribed proton pump inhibitors (PPI), researchers filed the following results
1. PPIs and other over counter medicine are insufficient to relieve the symptoms of gastric reflux.
The combination of yoga intervention and medicine expressed a significant reduction of the severe symptoms of GERD, including bloody stools or bloody vomiting, dysphagia in ameliorated sensation of food being stuck in your throat. and prevented nausea.
2. The combined treatment also showed an strong effect in avoid or delay the necessity of invasive procedures

Proton pump inhibitors are class of drugs used in conventional medicine in reduced gastric acid production with pronounced and long lasting effects

Based on the finding information, Dr.Kaswala D, the led author said, " regular practice of Kapalbhati and Agnisar kriya along with PPI, patients with hiatal hernia had improvement in severe symptoms of GERD, which were initially refractory to PPI alone".

Kapalbhati and Agnisar kriya, are exercises in yoga lessons with an aim to in increased digestive system and metabolism.

Hiatal hernia is an abnormality of stomach in induced acid backs up into the esophagus, causing acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). In most cases, surgery is necessary, if patients do not response to heartburn and acid reflux.medication.

Additionally, in a case study of a 14-y-old girl who had two surgeries for gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and continued with chest and abdominal pain, as well as vomiting, difficulty eating, weight loss, and anxiety assigned to 4 months of Iyengar yoga, researchers at the University of California after taking into account of her symptoms which had not been improved with treatments by specialists over an extended period of time, found that
1. Yoga intervention expressed a significant improvement of chest and abdominal pain, and vomiting, difficulty eating, weight loss, and anxiety.
2. Yoga participated improved school attendance, sleep, socialize, or eat, and physical functioning
3. After 4-mo treatment of Iyengar yoga, patient have resumed activities and re-engage with her environment

Iyengar, a form of Hatha Yoga emphasized on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama), according to some yoga instructors, the practice has a pronounced effect in reduced system of digestive disorder and promoted energy restoring.
Dr. Evans S., the led author said, "(The purpose of this report is) to stimulate scientific study of this form of treatment for children and adolescents with chronic pain".

There was a report that Iyengar yoga restorative poses with gentle strength-building poses have slowly increased symptoms of GERD of a adolescent girl.

Mrs Beth Sternlieb, a yoga instructor at the UCLA Pediatric Pain Clinics suggested that, iyengar yoga lessons implication not only reduced intake of medication but also improved her medical complications after medication withdrawal.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that yoga may be used as integrated form of physical exercise in reduced symptoms and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Some articles have been used as references in medical research, such as international journal Pharma and Bio science, ISSN 0975-6299.

The use of plants for healing purposes have been predated long before the existence of modern medicine. Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Green tea showed to inhibited or exhibited kidney function in toxin elimination in deteriorated renal function in patient with chronic renal disease, studies proposed.

Renal Disease is an impaired function in toxin elimination for more than a specific time as a result of kidney damage or injure.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine ,or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory. Adding a slice of ginger will be helpful to solve the problem.

In mice fed with a powdered diet containing green tea polyphenolic extract (0.1%) starting 3 days prior to CsA treatment (25 mg/kg, i.g. daily for 3 weeks).showed a decreased renal nuclear DNA-encoded oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) protein ATP synthase-β (AS-β)by 42%, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-encoded OXPHOS protein NADH dehydrogenase-3 (ND3) involved oxidize nutrients for energy conversion by 87%.

Flavanols (polyphenols) are rich phytochemicals isolated from green tea, particularly in the expression in form of most bioactive flavanol EGCG.

Oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) protein ATP synthase-β (AS-β) plays a key role in energy production and regulated the generation of free radicals, and apoptosis through respiratory chain.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-encoded OXPHOS protein NADH dehydrogenase-3 (ND3) in reduced risk of gene mutation through oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS).

Dr. Rehman H, the lead author said," Green tea polyphenols markedly attenuated CsA-induced renal injury and improved renal function. Together, these results demonstrate that green tea polyphenols attenuate CsA-induced kidney injury, at least in part, through the stimulation of MB".

In support of the efficacy of green tea for treatment of renal disease, the study of F40 rats randomly divided into 4 groups. Group 1 acted as control; group 2 received contrast medium (intravenous iodixanol, 10 mL/kg, as a single dose); group 3 received contrast medium and then green tea extract for 3 days (10 mg/kg/d, intraperitoneal); and group 4 first received green tea and then contrast medium, researchers showed that group treated with green tea had significantly higher overall scores than the control group.

Treatment group also expressed a significant improvement in progression of renal degeneration caused by nephrotoxicity of contrast media.

Unfortunately, according to the joint study lead by the China Medical University,  inhibited the elimination of indoxyl sulfate (IS) and p-cresyl sulfate (PCS), a highly protein-bound nephro-cardiovascular toxins in CRF rats.

Catechin, is another major chemical constituent isolated from Green tea (GT) and a popular beverage in China.

Indoxyl sulfate(IS), a circulating uremic toxin has found to associate to the development of glomerular sclerosis and interstitial fibrosis.

P-Cresyl sulfate (pCS) is also an uremic toxin generated by intestinal bacteria
which has an implication to worsen outcome of patients with chronic kidney disease and increased cardiovascular burden.

Furthermore, green tea injection of catechin.in experiment mice also showed a significantly increased the levels of serum creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN), an indication of further kidney damage after ingestion of green tea catechin.

Dr. Peng YH, the lead author said, "GT inhibited the elimination of nephro-cardiovascular toxins such as IS and PCS, and deteriorated the renal function in CRF rats".

Taking together, the conflict results of green tea in expression of chronic renal disease may be due to study design, the group sample, the subject selection doses administration,........., therefore patients with renal disease should be consult with specialists before taking.

Yoga as an integrated form of exercise may be used for treatment of panic and anxiety disorder in combined with standard treatment, epidemiological studies suggested.

Panic and anxiety disorder is a mental condition characterized by recurrent unexpected panic attacks. of  sudden periods of intense fear inducing palpitations, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, numbness, or a feeling that something really bad is going to happen.

Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been best known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the study of total of 20 subjects diagnosed with panic disorder, randomly assigned to both experimental groups: Group 1 (G1-Yoga: 10 subjects) attended yoga classes and Group 2 (G2-CBT + Yoga: 10 subjects) participated in a combined intervention of yoga practice followed by a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) session, reesarchers filed the following results
1. Both group displayed a statistical analysis in reduction of anxiety levels associated with panic disorder, panic-related beliefs and panic-related body sensations
2. The combination of yoga and CBT (G2) showed a better reductions in all observed parameters in compared to only yoga group.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a psychological method of treatment to eliminate conception of negative patterns of thought about the self and the world, particularly in patients with depression.

Dr. Vorkapic CF, the lead author, after taking into account of other con-founders said, "... improvements in different mental health parameters after the practice of contemplative techniques alone or combined to psychotherapy" and "(Understanding) joining psychological and physiological variables could help better elucidate the mechanisms through which mind-body practices work to improve mental health".

In deed, yoga improved psychological and physiological variables of patients with Panic and Anxiety Disorder may be attributed to the increased level of gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA, a chemical in the brain in regulated nerve activity. Thus reducing psychological aspects in related mood and anxiety disorders..

According to the Emory University, gamma-aminobutyric acid can be considered as neural basis of fear acquisition, the mechanisms of fear inhibition or suppression

Other, in the review of literature published on quality of life in panic disorder from 1980 to 2010 on database of MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and PubMed, indicated that yoga intervention in combination of standard treatment may ameliorate substantial quality of life  impairments in panic disorder, improve mental and physical health.....and be used as post-treatment in enhanced quality of life (QOL) in these group of patients.

Dr. Davidoff J, the lead author went even further to suggest, " understand the nature of comorbidities in panic disorder (PD) as well as to determine whether additional interventions that have been studied in other psychiatric disorders, such as exercise, meditation, yoga, humor, massage, and nutritional supplements, can be utilized to improve QOL in PD to normal community levels.

Interestingly, in the reviewed literature published on PubMed in English up to December 2012 to evulaute the effect of complementary and alternative therapies in panic and anxiety disorder, researchers also found that
1. Data based illustrated that depression evidence base is significantly larger than anxiety disorder
2. Yoga was considered as levels 3 line of treatment of patients with panic and anxiety disorder due to the quality of available evidence.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that yoga may be considered as an adjunct exercise in combined with standard therapy for treatment of panic and anxiety disorder.

Regular drinking of beet juice may have a profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of hypertension, a recent study suggested.

Hypertension is a condition of abnormal high blood pressure in the blood stream, considered as a major syndrome in increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Beet, best known as the beetroot or garden beet is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall, belongings to the amaranth family

In a randomized crossover study of 24 subjects aged 25-68 years old divided into two groups with one group took raw beet juice (RBJ) for 2 weeks and the other group took cooked beet (CB). After 2 weeks of treatment, both groups had a washout for 2 weeks then switched to the alternate treatment, researchers after taking into account of other co founders found that both groups showed a remarkable in reduced blood pressure but significantly higher in beet juice subjects.

Dr. Asgary S1, the lead author said, " (Beside ameliorated blood pressure,) more improvement was observed in endothelial function and systemic inflammation with RBJ compared with CB".

Endothelial function plays an important role in ensured proper blood circulation in and out of the heart. Endothelial dysfunction is an abnormality of inner lining of blood vessels.

Systemic inflammation is an over production of inflammatory cytokines through immune response in activation of the innate immune system.

The study also addressed that beet juice and cooked beet attenuated hypertension may be resulted of a complex system involved  regulation of pro inflammatory and antioxidant expressions.

Furthermore, in the study of the effect of beetroot juice concentration in 24 overweight older participants given either the beetroot juice concentrate or blackcurrant juice group, with a 1-week post supplementation phase (week 4) for 3 weeks, scientists suggested that beetroot juice concentrate showed a strong inhibition of daily systolic BP after 3 weeks in compared to blackcurrant juice treatment group,

Systolic BP is the measurement of the maximum arterial pressure in stage of contraction of the left ventricle of the heart.

However,  the efficacy of beet juice in reduced BP can not be sustained after the interruption of the supplementation intake at 1 week followup.

Dr. Jajja A, the lead author said, "In overweight older subjects, beetroot juice concentrate supplementation was associated with beneficial effects on daily systolic BP".

Additionally, according to the joint review of the database included 85 older participants (age range: 55-76 years) of 2 trials with an open-label, parallel design in compared to  2 trials with a cross-over, double-blind design, researchers insisted that the efficacy of beet juice in reduced blood pressure may associate to age of subjects, as well as the expression of in-nocturnal mean.

The finding evidences demonstrated that  beet juice may be considered as a functional food in lowering high blood pressure.
