Yoga participants is found to benefit from decrease levels of all kinds of physical, emotional, vocational, or academic stress, a renowned institute study suggested.

Yoga is a ancient practical technique of India, included breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture,..... with an aim to achieve harmonization of the body, mind, and spirit.

Stress is a normal reaction when a person comes under pressure or threat, as expression of sudden surge of hormone adrenaline.

In a feasibility study explored engagement and effectiveness of a systematic 10-week yoga program aimed at university faculty, staff, and students, individual, attended yoga class displayed a significant improvement in cope with perceived stress and psychological, behavioral, and physical symptoms of stress, after 10 weeks.

Dr. Brems C, the researcher said, " The study demonstrates feasibility of a yoga intervention in an academic setting and provides preliminary evidence for efficacy in stress reduction."

Furthermore, according to the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, yoga learners not only benefits from stress reduction but also experience the decreased anxiety and improved sleep and improved quality of life.

In a pilot study, nine nurses participated in 6 weekly sessions of yoga  nidra to measure of sleep, stress, and muscle fatigue in psychiatric nurses, researchers found that 6 weekly sessions of yoga nidra results in positive perception of stress level and muscle fatigue.

Additionally, yoga also demonstrated a positive effect in alleviated stress during pregnancy, according to the The University of Tokyo study.

In recruited 60 healthy primiparas without complications, attended yoga classes twice a month and to practice yoga at their homes using DVD 3 times a week from 20 gestational weeks until childbirth, measurement of hormone and alpha-amylase concentrations related to stress showed to decrease significantly with increased scores of vigor for a positive dimension of mood.

Therefore, participated in yoga class may be a potential source in reduced risk of mental disorders in pregnant women and enhanced fetal growth, as well as promoted stress alleviation in healthy adults

The use of plants for healing purposes has been predated long before the existence of  modern medicine. Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Study from renowned institute suggested that Aloe arborescens may be  a potentially neuroprotective
agent against copper induced neurobehavioral features of Parkinson's disease.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan, used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

According to the joint study lead by the Cadi Ayyad University, Neurosciences, Pharmacology and Environment Unit, Aloe Vera expressed altered dopaminergic innervations associated to neurological disorders, Parkinson's disease following Cu intoxication.

Dr. Abbaoui A, the lead researcher said, " (Aloe arborescens gel )AEAAG administration to Cu intoxicated rats showed a noticeable beneficial effect; this potential was featured by a complete recovery of the (tyrosine hydroxylase)TH expression (in regulation of dopamine Synthesis)
and locomotor behavior deficiencies in the intoxicated rats".

Aloe emodin, an active compound found in Aloe Vera leaf, also exhibited neuroprotective effects by attenuated scopolamine(a medication used to treat motion sickness and postoperative nausea and vomiting)-induced cognitive deficits via inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity involved breaking down of neurotransmitter and modulating oxidative stress.

The study also insisted, the antioxidants activities inhibited significantly extracellular intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production to prevent cytotoxicity in patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD).

In fact, The neuro protective expression of Aloe Vera polysaccharide is found to downregulate(caspase-3 expression) the process of apoptotic cell death in the brain during injure.

Taking together, Aloe Vera exerted neuroprotective effect in reduced risk of dementia through many aspects, including free radical inhibition, anti cytotoxicity, chemical toxicity..... but human trials are necessary to confirm its validity.

If you expect that herbal medicine will ease the symptoms of your illness, you will be disappointed. Symptoms of the diseases can only be eased gradually, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of the disease.

A renowned study suggested that Chaste tree berry have a potential effect in enhancing pregnancy in women with abnormal menstrual cycle.

Fertility is a natural process to insure the survival of human species. Through natural selection, we produce many offspring when the reproductive system works at it's peak in the suitable environment with plenty of food around. On the other hand, the reproductive system may completely shut down or work at it's minimum state and we produce less offspring, when the environment is hostile including less foods around, war, epidemic.

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of year as anaphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

In a total of 37 women with oligomenorrhea and 30 women with amenorrhea received 50 drops of Phyto Hypophyson L, a preparation from Chaste tree berry or placebo 3 times a day over 3 months or 3 cycles, the preparation not only normalized the menstrual cycke of women with oligomenorrhea, but also significantly improved the chance of pregnancy in compared placebo group.

Dr. Bergmann J, the lead author said, " The baby take-home rate during the therapy and 6 months after the end of the therapy showed a ratio of 18.7 /6.4%)".

The effectiveness of the preparation in enhanced rate of pregnancy with remarkable outcome may be
due to the increase of progesterone during the luteal phase compared to the oligomenorrhea placebo group, with only very few undesirable side effects.

In other study with the same group of women, researchers found that treatment of preparation to women with sterility and oligomenorrhea, can induce pregnancy over a period of 3-6 months with a attractive rate.

Promisingly, in a randomized double blind study to test the effect of Vitex agnus castus preparation (Strotan capsules) vs. placebo, involved 52 women with luteal phase defects due to latent hyperprolactinaemia, women who are taking the daily dose of one capsule (20 mg) Vitexagnus castus preparation reserved the elevated pituitary prolactin and normalized deficits in luteal phase length and increased luteal phase progesterone synthesis. comparable to placebo, after three month of therapy.

Dr. Milewicz A, the lead researcher said, "Side effects were not seen, two women treated with the Vitex agnus castus preparation got pregnant. The tested preparation is thought to be an efficient medication in the treatment of luteal phase defects due to latent hyperprolactinaemia".

Taking together, Chaste tree berry may have a pharmaceutical value in promoting pregnancy in women with sterility and oligomenorrhea, but large doses should be taken with care against toxicity.

Whole food(herbal medicine) used as medical treatment,  linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has induced much interests in today renowned scientists.
But many researchers have raised question of herbal quality, because geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. may effect their's potency. I do believe, these questions can only be answered by experience herbalists.

Intake of cruciferous vegetable may be inversely correlated with circulating of proinflammatory levels of  in women.

In a total of 1,005 middle-aged Chinese women study, consumption of cruciferous vegetable regularly is associated to lower circulating concentrations of proinflammatory cytokins.

Proinflammatory cytokines, also known as Interleukin (IL) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF), secreted by immune system to protect out body in inducing fever, inflammation, tissue destruction, etc.

Cruciferous vegetables are the group of vegetables belonging to the family Brassicaceae, including cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, b roccoli etc.

Further to the study, Sulforaphane (SFN) and  Diallyl disulfide(DAFDs), the naturally occurring isothiocyanate found in cruciferous vegetables, in the highly metastatic B16F-10 melanoma cells exhibited the induction of apoptosis in the cancer cell line, through involvement of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin.

Dr. Pratheeshkumar P, the lead author of the study suggested, DADS induces caspase-dependent apoptosis through a induced cell death pathway in B16F-10 melanoma cells by activating...... and suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Other phytochemical found the vegetables, such as 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) , a derivative of indole-3-carbinol, also expressed anti proinflammayroy effect through interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor.

In fact, chemical compounds found in the vegetable, not only inhibited the pro infammatory cytokins in expression of chronic diseases and caners, but also involved in other aspects, such as environment airborne particulate pollutants, according to the East Campus - Laurentian University.

Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Alfalfa is found to express neuro protective effect against acute and progressive neurodegenerative disorders.

Alfalfa is a flowering plant in the genus Medicago, belonging to the family Fabaceae, cultivated all over the world as hay for cattle feeding, and used in traditional medicine over thousands of year to treat high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, enhance digestive system, bleeding disorder, kidney and urinary tract infection, etc. North Americal aboriginal has used Alfalfa seed as food, such as making bread and mush.

Neuroprotection is the action to preserve neuronal structure and/or function of the brain, particular in delay of neurodegenatve diseases and enhanced integrity of neurons.

According to the L.R. Institute of Pharmacy, methanol extract of Medicago sativa (MS) induced neuroprotective effect through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities against ischemia and reperfusion-induced cerebral injury in mice as free radicals expression are elevated with deletion of antioxidants, such as glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and total tissue sulfhydryl (T-SH) groups.

Indeed, mice treated with Medicago sativa (MS) exhibited significantly scavenged free radicals activity against a stable radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and O(•-) (2) and also inhibited XD/XO conversion and resultant O(•-) (2) production.

Dr. Bora KS, the lead researchers said, " treatment with MS enhances the antioxidant defense against BCAO-induced global cerebral ischemia and exhibits neuroprotective activity".

Further more, in the review of 117 references compiled from major databases as Chemical Abstracts, Science Direct, SciFinder, PubMed, Dr. Dukes Phytochemical and Ethnobotany, CIMER, and InteliHealth, M. sativa seems to hold great potential for various biological activities, including heat disease and neuro protective effects, attributed to some major classes of phytoconstituents, including
saponins, flavonoids, phytoestrogens, coumarins, alkaloids, amino acids, phytosterols, vitamins, digestive enzymes and terpenes.

With all the available scientific literature indicated above, alfalfa may attract the attention of natural product researchers to focus on the unexplored therapeutic potential of M. sativa, particular in neuro protective area.

Green tea exhibited anti inflammatory effect in reduced symptoms and progression of
Rheumatoid Arthritis, a renowned institute study suggested

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic disorder as a result of inflammation, affecting mostly the flexible (synovial) joints and tissues and organs in the body after the ages of 40 and causing diminished quality of life of many elder.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including dizziness, low energy, weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

According to the joint study lead by Washington State University College of Pharmacy, green tea (EGCG, EGC, and EC) showed to ameliorate the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators including (IL-6 and IL-8) and Cox-2 in primary human rheumatoid arthritis synovial fibroblasts (RASFs), through the effects of its phytochemical compounds of EGCG and EGC antioxidant activities.

Dr. Fechtner S, the lead researcher said," EGCG is the most effective catechin at inhibiting downstream inflammatory signaling, its effectiveness could be hindered by the presence of (epicatechin) EC".

In the investigation of the anti-inflammatory activity of green versus black tea aqueous extract in a rat model with orally/daily distilled water as placebo, indomethacin (1.0 mg/kg body weight; a non-steroidal/anti-inflammatory drug), or tea aqueous extracts (for 28 or 14 consecutive days administrated from day 0 or 14 of arthritis induction, respectively), group treated with high dose of GTE (from day 0) significantly alleviated (P < 0.05-0.001) the progression and all complications induced by rheumatoid arthritis in compared placebo.

More importantly, Researchers also found that the expression of anti-arthritic activity of the high dose of GTE (from day 0) mediated by significantly decreasing the systemic production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the expression of chemokine receptor-5, a protein in activated immune activities in the in synovial tissues, was comparable (P > 0.05) with that of indomethacin (12.9-53.8 vs. 9.5-48.4%, respectively).
Furthermore, the anti-arthritic potency of tea aqueous extracts was doses dependent in the order of high dose of GTE > low dose of GTE ≥ high dose of BTE > low dose of BTE.

Other study suggested that green tea extract in reduced symptoms and riak of complication probably are the result in regulating chemokine(a family of cytokines secreted by cells) production in immune reaction and chemokine receptor expression in interaction with proimflammatory cytokines of human RA synovial fibroblasts in rat adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA).

Taking together, green tea nay be served as a functional food to reduce symptoms and risk of complication for patients with  rheumatoid arthritis.
