Herbal Bilberry Anthocyanin, the Easy Way to Protect the corneal epithelium Against UV-induced Photokeratitis

By Kyle J. Norton

Photokeratitis is an uncommon condition induced eye pain caused by exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays from either the sun or artificial sources.

Under normal condition, the automatic pupil dilation protects the eyes by reducing the energy entering the eye. In some cases, if the levels of visible light are very high, the instinct reflex of the bain take over to have the eye either close or turn away from the energy sources.

Snow blindness caused by the reflection of UV rays is very common in people who live in the areas of the North and South Pole and high mountains.

Most common symptoms of photokeratitis, depending on the time-length exposure include pain, redness, blurriness, swelling,  headache, and temporary vision loss.

Some patients may experience also temporary color changes in your vision.or vision loss.

You can easily protect your eyes against photokeratitis by wearing sunglass in the bright day,  reduced time exposure to artificial UV.

Normally, the condition goes away on its own within a few days. Treatment is totally depending on the severity of the symptoms, ranging from flushing with warm water, prescribed eye drops or antibiotics in case of infection.

Researchers in the urgency to find the ingredient for the treatment of acute UVB exposure induced photokeratitis and apoptosis in corneal cells compared the effects of either nano-AST, AST oil, lutein, or bilberry extract 3 hours before and shortly before UV irradiation (dose: 400 mJ/cm2) in mice.

24 hours after irradiation, according to the sample collected, corneal epithelium was significantly thicker in mice orally administered with nano-AST than in the others (p < 0.01), with significantly less NF-κB nucleus translocation involved in the induction of proinflammation, and significantly fewer TUNEL cells associated with apoptotic DNA fragmentation.

Weaker dihydroethidium (DHE) associated with free radical oxidation was detected in the nano-AST group (p < 0.05) relative to the others.

In other words, nano-AST protects the corneal tissues and cells by reducing inflammation and decreasing cell death.

Dr. Harada F, the lead researcher said, "Oral administration of nano-AST demonstrated a protective effect on UV-induced photokeratitis via antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic activity".,

Additionally, in order to obtain more information of researchers examined administered with AST diluted in polyethylene glycol (PEG) in instillation form (15 μl) to the right eye in C57BL/6 mice against UV-photokeratitis.

Before injecting with AST, UVB exposure mice induced cell death and thinning of the corneal epithelium. However, the epithelium was restored after irradiation in AST-treated corneas.

Compared to those treated with vehicle, irradiated corneal epithelium was significantly thicker in eyes treated with AST eye drops and less cell apoptosis.

Furthermore, AST also reduced oxidative stress in irradiated corneas.

In other words, AST-treated cultures after UVB-irradiation protects the corneal tissue and cells against the cytotoxicity of TKE2 cells.

Based on the finding, Dr. Lennikov A and colleagues wrote, "Topical AST administration may be a candidate treatment to limit the damages by UV irradiation with wide clinical applications".

Taken altogether, anthocyanin, a carotenoid, presented in seafood, may be considered a functioning remedy for the treatment of photokeratitis, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Artichoke Promotes Healthy Levels of Triglycerides

By Kyle J. Norton

On seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have a whole herb for the prevention and treatment of overexpression of triglycerides, according to studies.

Triglycerides are body fat found in humans derived from glycerol and saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acid.

The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells to energy in the future when the body needs.

Unlike cholesterol produced by the liver and absorbed through diet to build cell walls, produce steroid hormone and vitamin D and aid digestive, the primary of triglycerides function is to store as unused calories and provide your body with energy.

In the health perspective, the levels of triglycerides can affect your health and risk of cardiovascular disease.
1. Normal, if your level is less than 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or less than 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L)
2. Borderline high if your level is between 150 and 199 mg/dL (1.8 and 2.2 mmol/L)
3. High, if your level is between 200 and 499 mg/dL (2.3 and 5.6 mmol)
4. Very high,  if your level is above 500 mg/dL (above 5.7 mmol/L)

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a liver protective and detoxified agent, and to treat digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural compound for the treatment of obesity investigated the artichoke extract anti overexpression of triglycerides by reviewing the medical literature online.

From the databases of PubMed-Medline, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases up to March 28, 2017, RCTs satisfied the standard criteria and guideline were selected to the investigation of the impact of artichoke extracts on plasma lipid levels.

According to the Meta-analysis of data from 9 trials including 702 subjects artichoke extract showed significant activity against the overexpression of plasma concentrations, including lowering the triglycerides by -9.2 mg/dL.

The injection of artichoke extract according to the selected studies did not exert any impact on the levels high-density lipoprotein, compared to the strong effect on lowering the levels of low-density lipoprotein.

These results suggested that artichoke supplement reduced plasma lipid levels through inhibiting the levels of both total and LDL-C, and triglycerides.

Futhermore, in order to reveal more details of artichoke effect on triglycerides, researchers examined fecal excretion of neutral bile acids and sterols in subjects after the artichoke leaf extract (ALE) intake.

The animal model study included 64 Golden Syrian hamsters (8 weeks old) fed randomly either a control diet or a similar diet containing ALE (4.5 g/kg diet) for 6 weeks.

According to the observation up to day 21, ALE injection showed no significant changes in plasma lipid levels, including non-HDL cholesterol triglycerides or fecal neutral sterols.

However, after day 42, ALE exerted a clinical significance in lowing the levels of triglycerides by 22% in male and 29% in female hamsters, compared to control.

The findings strongly suggested that ALE processes anti triglycerides accumulation by a mechanism involving the greater excretion of fecal bile acids and neutral sterols after feeding for 42 days.

According to the accumulated information, it is safe to say that artichoke may be considered a functional remedy for the treatment of elevated non-HDL cholesterol triglycerides with no side effects, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study

Herbal Ginger Protects Your Eye Against Diabetics' Retinal Damage

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found natural ingredients for the treatment of retinal damage with no side effects, according to studies.

The retina is a thin layer of tissue that lines the inside of the back of the eye with a function to convert light into neural signals to the brain for visual recognition.

Retinal damage is a condition characterized by damage of the thin layer of tissue of retina caused by many underlying problems.

Although it is not common, retinal damage, however, is a leading cause of macular degeneration in older adults.

The late stage of retinal damage has been associated with vision impairment and reduced quality of life in patients.

Macular degeneration is a medical condition caused by the deterioration of the small central portion of the retina, known as the macula in inducing gradually reduced vision, a leading cause of severe, irreversible vision loss in people over age 60.

According to the statistic, macular degeneration affects more than 1.75 million aging population in the United States.

The causes of retinal damage can be various. However, some researchers suggested certain conditions associated with the eye vision may foretell the damage of the retina, including
* Dim vision, the vision is longer as bright as before.
* Distorted and double vision
* Worsen floating webs compared to before
* Flashing lights
* Halo from the light sources
* Block some of the vision

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure that you check with your doctor for preventive measure.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine for the treatment of dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural compound for the treatment of retinal damage with no side effects compared to chemo medication examined the anti-lung cancer of bioactive compounds isolated from the ginger.

In seeking a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of retinal damage, researchers examined the synergistic effect purple waxy corn and ginger (PWCG) against diabetic eye complications.

The study included diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin,  an antibiotic with the blood glucose levels >250 mg·dL(-1) orally given the extract at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg·BW(-1) for 10 weeks.

According to the tested assays, all dose of PWCG decreased lens opacity, MDA, the levels of retinal oxidative stress and augmented reality (AR) which has a unique optical design specially engineered for measuring near-eye displays (NEDs), in the lens of diabetic rats.

Injection of the extract also improved the antioxidant profile which was decreased due to the administration of streptozotocin in the diabetic rats.

Additional observation showed that the extract exerts antiretinopathy property by the increased number of neurons in the ganglion cell layer and thickness of the total retina and retinal nuclear layer in diabetic rats.

Dr. Thiraphatthanavong P, the lead scientist said, " PWCG is the potential functional food to protect against diabetic cataract and retinopathy".

Furthermore, in order to reveal more information about ginger anti-diabetic retinopathy (DR) activity, researchers analyzed the protective effect of zerumbone, a monocyclic sesquiterpene compound found in ginger, against DR.

The study included streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats treated with ZER (40 mg/kg) once a day orally for 8 weeks.

During the study, researchers found that ZER administration significantly (p < 0.05) lowers the levels of plasma glucose (32.5% ± 5.7% lower) and glycosylated hemoglobin (29.2% ± 3.4% lower) in STZ-diabetic rats.

ZER also reversed the disarrangement and reduction in the thickness of retinal layers in diabetic rats.

Particularly, ZER also inhibited the elevated levels of advanced glycosylated end products (AGEs) and the higher levels of the receptors for AGEs (RAGE) involving the retinal damage in diabetic rats.

Moreover, the efficacy of ginger that protects the diabetic retinopathy was associated with the deactivation of the proteins in stimulating the production of proinflammatory cytokines and apoptosis in the retinas of STZ-diabetic rats.

Take all together, ginger processed a high amount of bioactive compounds may be considered a functional alternative for prevention and treatment of retinal damage, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical 3,3'-Diindolylmethane, a Natural Prevention and Treatment of Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity

By Kyle J. Norton

Delayed-type hypersensitivity is also known as type 4 hypersensitivity because the reaction takes several days to develop, including contact dermatitis.

Believe it or not, type IV hypersensitivity mediated by antigen-specific effector T cells is associated with the infection induced by slow-growing intracellular organisms, such as M. tuberculosis (tuberculosis), M. leprae (leprosy) and H. capsulatum.

Some researchers suggested that the delayed hypersensitivity is dependent on the presence of a significant number of primed, antigen-specific T cells response which typically reaches its peak 24 to 48 hours after exposure to antigen.

Type IV hypersensitivity diseases although are common, but ranges second to type 1 hypersensitivity.

Many diseases are found to associate with delayed-type hypersensitivity include leprosy, tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, sarcoidosis and Crohn's disease.

Leprosy is divided clinically into three essential types: tuberculoid, borderline, and lepromatous.

Schistosomiasis caused by schistosomes, once the body is sensitized by a granulomatous reaction developed in the parasitized tissue mediated by Th2 lymphocytes.

Tuberculosis in the lungs caused by a granulomatous reaction that leads to cavitation and the spread of bacteria

Sarcoidosis is a chronic and idiopathic disease caused by the activated macrophage and granuloma accumulation in many tissues along with fibrosis.

Crohn's disease is a granulomatous disease that is not caused by a microorganism.

3,3'-Diindolylmethane or DIM are phytochemicals derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol, belonging to the group of Indoles, found abundantly in broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and kale, etc.

On finding a potential ingredients for the prevention and treatment of the delayed-type hypersensitivity, researchers tested the ability of dietary AhR ligands (indole-3-carbinol [I3C] and 3,3'-diindolylmethane [DIM]) and an endogenous AhR ligand, 6-formylindolo(3,2-b)carbazole (FICZ), on the differentiation and functions of Tregs and Th17 cells.

Administration of indoles (I3C or DIM) in tested mice attenuated delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response to methylated BSA, an antigen-specific inflammation in targeted organs and generation of Th17 cells which play a critical role in the induction of the tissue inflammation and tissue destruction while promoting Tregs in the suppression of immune response.

Interestingly, the indoles inhibited the delayed-type hypersensitivity by causing the reciprocal induction of Tregs and Th17 cells only in wild-type (AhR(+/+)) but not in AhR knockout (AhR(-/-)) mice.

Additional analysis of the indoles anti-delayed-type hypersensitivity activity, researchers found that the efficacy of the indoles was associated with the promotion of protein (FoxP3) involved in immune system responses of the Tregs while decreasing the protein associated with pro-inflammatory expression.

In order to reveal more anti-inflammation about indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and diindolylmethane (DIM), researchers investigated the compounds in the exhibition of the characteristics of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) ligands, that was found to regulate the T cell differentiation.

In a murine model of multiple sclerosis (MS), retreatment with I3C or DIM completely prevented the clinical symptoms and cellular infiltration into the CNS through induction of inflammation.

Particularly, post-treatment of EAE with I3C or DIM proved highly effective in curtailing the overall severity of the disease.

Similar to that of aforementioned protection against delayed-type hypersensitivity, I3C or DIM promoted the generation of T-regs, while inhibited the induction of MOG-specific Th17 cells.

In other words, I3C or DIM inhibited delayed type hypersensitivity through the promotion of T-regs and suppression of Th17 cells in vivo and in vitro were found to be AhR-dependent.

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of delayed type hypersensitivity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Whole Food Tomatoes, the Best to Prevent and Treat Metabolic Syndrome, According to Human Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The health problems found in the group include too much fat around the waist, elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides, elevated blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol.

In other words, if you have 3 of the conditions in the group, your risk of CVD and diabetes are increased substantially compared to those who have less.

According to the statistics, approximately 30% of people in the US are living with metabolic syndrome.

Believe it or not, among US adults aged 18 years or older, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome rose by more than 35% from 1988–1994 to 2007–2012, increasing from 25.3% to 34.2%.

Besides the aforementioned conditions, risks of metabolic syndrome may include age, family history, physical, inactivity, and women with polycystic ovary syndrome, epidemiologically.

Some researchers suggested that MS also facilitates complication of liver diseases, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

As of today, treatment of metabolic syndrome commonly is prescribed medications to reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, and/or blood sugar with an aim to reduce the risk of developing further health complications and improve quality of life.

Some researchers suggested that by changing to a healthy lifestyle and moderate exercise you may do just fine without increasing risk of complications.

Dr. Christos Pitsavos, the lead scientist said, "Individuals with the metabolic syndrome are at high risk for atherosclerosis and, consequently, cardiovascular disease. However, as a result of several epidemiologic studies and some clinical trials, it has been suggested that people with the metabolic syndrome may benefit from intensive lifestyle modifications including dietary changes and adopting a physically more active lifestyle".

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belongs to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

With an aim to find a potential compound or whole food for the treatment of metabolic syndrome, researchers investigated longitudinally whether serum carotenoids are associated with the risk of developing the MetS and its components in Japanese subjects.

The study included a follow-up study on 1073 men and women aged 30-79 years at the baseline from the Mikkabi prospective cohort study over the 10-year period, with 910 subjects (295 men and 615 women) took part in the follow-up survey at least once.

According to the returned questionnaires,
* Over the span of 7·8 (sd 2·9) years, thirty-six men and thirty-one women developed new MetS.

* The hazard ratio (HR) for the MetS in the highest tertile of serum β-carotene against the lowest tertile was 0·47.

In other words, high levels of serum α- and β-carotene and β-cryptoxanthin were significantly lower risks for dyslipidemia.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote in the final report, "Our results further support the hypothesis that eating a diet rich in carotenoids might help prevent the development of the MetS and its complications in Japanese subjects".

In order to reveal additional information about tomato anti-MetS, researchers assessed the association between serum carotenoids and the metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a Chinese population.

Participants recruited from a community-based cross-sectional study included 2148 subjects (1547 women and 601 men) aged 50-75 years in urban Guangzhou, China.

At the end of the study, researchers found that The OR of the MetS for the highest (v. lowest) quartile were 0.31 for α-carotene, 0.23, for β-carotene, 0.44, for β-cryptoxanthin, 0.39 (95% CI 0.26, 0.58) for lycopene, 0.28 for lutein+zeaxanthin and 0.19 for total carotenoids.

In other words, all bioactive compound found in carotenoids exerted the most anti-metabolic syndrome activity synergistically compared to the individual compound.

The results strongly suggested "Higher concentrations of each individual carotenoid and total carotenoids were significantly associated with a decrease in the number of abnormal MetS components"

And, "Higher serum carotenoid levels were associated with a lower prevalence of the MetS and fewer abnormal MetS components in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults", according to Dr.Liu J, the lead researchers.

Taken altogether, tomatoes processed high amounts of bioactive compound carotenoids may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of carotenoids in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Artichoke Protects Us Against Liver Disease

By Kyle J. Norton

The liver is the largest organ in the human body besides processing the function in filtering blood from the digestive system before passing them to other parts of the body, it also detoxifies toxic chemicals and metabolizes drugs and secretes bile to assist the digestive function in breaking down food.

Liver protective activity is an action that protects the liver functioning by blocking any substance or pathogens that can cause liver injury or damage.

The exact causes of liver disease are not identified. Researchers do not know why a person is prone to the disease onset while other person does not, even they share a similar health condition and family history

According to the medical literature,  there is a perception that liver disease mostly caused by excessive alcohol drinking and viral infection. However, as the time progression, many studies also found that obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome also play a critical role in developing liver disease.

Some researchers suggested that people with the weakened immune system or immune deficiency are also at an increased risk of liver disease.

Dr. Hadzic N. in the investigation of immune deficiency related liver disease wrote, "It is estimated that around one-quarter of patients with a primary immune deficiency will have some degree of liver involvement".

And, "The most common primary immune deficiencies associated with the liver disease are combined immune deficiency (CID), hyper-IgM syndrome, common variable immunodeficiency, while the commonest liver disease being sclerosing cholangitis"

Most common symptoms of liver disease are jaundice, itchy skin Skin, dark urine color, and pale stool color.

Some patient may also experience symptoms of abdominal pain and swelling, swelling in the legs and ankles and persistent fatigue.

Therefore, if you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule the possibility.

Searching the list of natural compounds with liver protective activity, researchers examined the effects of artichoke in liver dysfunctions.

The study included the preparation of 4 extract concentrations (0.62, 1.25, 2.5 and 5.0 mg/mL) evaluated on human hepatocyte cultures, HepG2 cells, using the comet assay.

Injection of extract concentrations of 0.62, 1.25 and 2.5 mg/mL, exhibited a significant cytotoxic effect in pretreatment, compared to hydrogen peroxide alone.

However, in simultaneous and post-treatment protocols, only the lowest concentration of artichoke inhibited the frequency of DNA damage caused by hydrogen peroxide.

At highest concentration at 2.5 mg/mL, artichoke extract increased hydrogen peroxide genotoxicity against HepG2 cells.

These results suggested that artichoke leaves aqueous extract induced genotoxic effects in a concentration higher than .62 mg/mL in the tested cell line.

In other words, artichoke extract protects the liver against overexpression of free radicals in the initiation of liver cell damage in a dose-dependent manner.

Dr. da Silva RP, the lead scientist said, "artichoke is genotoxic, in vitro, to HepG2 cells, but can also modulate hydrogen peroxide DNA damage".

In order to reveal more information about artichoke liver protective effects, researchers examined the herbal effects in experimental animals hepatoxicity.

The study included rats divided into five groups: negative control, paracetamol (2 g/kg, single oral dose), ALE (1.5 g/kg, orally for 14 d), ALE + paracetamol, and NAC (100 mg/kg) + paracetamol.

The paracetamol treatment group showed marked liver damage observed by significantly increased activities of serum aminotransferases, particularly in the significant increase in hepatic MDA and NO levels, compared with the negative control group.

Paracetamol injection also decreased significantly the levels of antioxidant enzymes produced by the host such as GSH content, GR, GST, and SOD activities.

Furthermore, Paracetamol also induced liver cell apoptosis through its toxicity.

Pretreatment of ALE reversed all the parameters changed above including replenished hepatic GSH, reversed oxidative stress parameters, DNA damage, and necrosis.

Dr. El Morsy EM and colleague wrote in the final report, "ALE may protect from paracetamol-induced liver toxicity via its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties".

Taken altogether, artichoke may be considered a functional remedy for the protection of liver against toxicity, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Bilberry Protects the Cells Integrity Against Cancer

By Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a group of cell mutated diseases caused by the alternation of DNA.

Most cases of cancer begin in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the tissue of an organ. At the early, most people with cancer are asymptomatic, however, at the later, due to the size and the tumor, patients may experience the general cancer symptoms such as unintended weight loss, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort and loss of appetite and localized symptoms such as severe pain and bleeding.

The exact causes of cancer are not identified. As of today, researchers do not know why one person develops cancer and another doesn’t, even they share some common risk factors of the disease.

However, most prevalent factors associated with the cancer onset include age, family history, long-term exposure to certain cancer induced chemicals, use of tobacco and excessive alcohol drinking,..... the list goes on and on, depending on the types of cancer.

Some researchers suggested that the most common risk factor that causes cancer in the Western world may be associated with widespread obesity.

Dr. Karen Basen-Engquist, in the evaluation of obesity risk of cancer, said, "In the United States, approximately 85,000 new cancer cases per year are related to obesity. Recent research has found that as the body mass index increases by 5 kg/m2, cancer mortality increases by 10%".

And, "High priorities for future research involve additional work on the underlying mechanisms, and trials to examine the effect of lifestyle behavior change and weight loss interventions on cancer and intermediate biomarkers".

The findings strong indicated the risk of cancer is increased substantially in obese.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Searching the list of natural compounds with a strong potential for the treatment of cancer with no side effects, scientists investigated the secondary metabolites including flavonoids (1-8), caffeic (9) and chlorogenic (10) acids from the extract of Sakhalin bilberry Vaccinium smallii leaves in vitro.

All 10 metabolites included in the study displayed a significant effect in the inhibition of EGF-induced neoplastic transformation in the conversion of normal cells into tumor cells of mouse JB6 Cl 41 P+ cells.

Furthermore, none of the compound isolated from bilberry extract showed non-toxic against JB6 Cl 41 P+ cells up to a concentration of 200 µm.

The results suggested that bilberry secondary metabolites protect the normal against the alternation of cells DNA without causing harm to the nearby healthy normal cells.

In HL60 cells, injection of bilberry extract-induced apoptotic cell bodies and nucleosomal DNA fragmentation.

However, bilberry did not exert similar effects against the HCT116. The proportion of apoptotic cells induced in HCT116 was much lower than that in HL60 cells, without the presence of DNA fragmentation.

According to the extracted analysis, the efficacy of bilberry against cancer cell lines was attributed to the bioactive phenolic compounds, including anthocyanins in initiating the free radical scavenging property.

Dr. Katsube N, the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders wrote in the final report, "These results indicate that the bilberry extract and the anthocyanins, bearing delphinidin or malvidin as the aglycon, inhibit the growth of HL60 cells through the induction of apoptosis".

Taken altogether, bilberry processed significant bioactive secondary metabolites may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of cancer, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.
