#Lycopene Found in Tomatoes Improves the Lung Function Associated with A Refuced Risk of Mortility Among Adults with Obstructive Lung Function

Kyle J. Norton

The lungs formed part of the respiratory system are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest with the main function to process gas exchange during breathing.

In other words, the lungs transfer life-giving oxygen into the blood supply and remove carbon dioxide produced by cells' metabolism from the blood.

Additionally, the lung is also the first-line defense against inhaled particles and prevent the circulation of emboli such as blood clot (thrombus), fat globule (fat embolism), a bubble of air or other gas (gas embolism), or foreign material.

Additionally, the lung also processes other abilities of
* Balancing the pH levels, the lung protects the body against the accumulation of too much carbon dioxide. High levels of carbon dioxide are known to induce acidity in the body.

* Removing small blood clots in the lung protects the body against the forming of air embolisms.

* Protecting lung infection through the secretion of immunoglobulin A.

Any part of the lung injury can reduce lung function, leading to either obstructive or restrictive lung diseases or mixed lung disease, depending on a person's breathing.

Obstructive lung diseases are conditions in which the lungs are unable to expel air properly during exhalation. Diseases associated with obstruction lung diseases such as asthma, bronchiectasis, COPD, and emphysema.

Besides smoking, secondhand smoke is the most common cause of obstructive lung disease. Dr.Mark D. Eisner said, "Secondhand smoke (SHS) has been extensively studied as a risk factor for obstructive lung disease, including decreased lung function, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (1–5)".

And, "Epidemiologic studies have played a key role in evaluating the respiratory health effects of SHS because they are the only feasible method for studying the impact of exposure, as it occurs naturally, on large numbers of the subject".

Lycopene is a phytochemical found in tomatoes in the class of carotenoids, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,

Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world's diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.

In finding a potential compound for the treatment of lung disease researchers examined the prospective associations between concentrations of α- and β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lutein/zeaxanthin, lycopene, Se, vitamin C, and α-tocopherol and all-cause mortality among US adults with obstructive lung function.

The study included a total of 1492 adults aged 20-79 years with obstructive lung function in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III (1988-94) which cause 629 deaths during a median follow-up period of 14 years.

α-carotene (P= 0·037); β-carotene (P= 0·022); cryptoxanthin (P= 0·022); lutein/zeaxanthin (P= 0·004); total carotenoids (P= 0·001) vitamin C (P< 0·001) concentration were inversely associated with all-cause mortality among adults with obstructive lung function.

However, in maximally adjusted models, only the concentrations of lycopene (P= 0·013) and vitamin C (P= 0·046) were found to be significantly and inversely associated with all-cause mortality compared to other tested antioxidants.

Additionally, lutein/zeaxanthin concentrations and all-cause mortality varied by smoking status were associated with lutein/zeaxanthin concentrations.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The concentrations of lycopene and vitamin C were inversely associated with all-cause mortality in this cohort of adults with obstructive lung function".

Taken altogether, lycopene found in tomatoes may be considered a remedy for the improvement of obstructive lung function, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose and acute liver toxicity.

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate glucose.

In other words, diabetes occurs when cells in the pancreas die off or receptor sites are clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

There are 2 major types of diabetes,
* Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is the most common form of diabetes found in children and is a condition in which the pancreas does not produce any insulin. The most common form of type 1 diabetes is caused by genetic mutation and some viruses.

* Type 2 diabetes is a medical condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose due to either cells in the pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

The most common symptoms of type 2 diabetes are an increased thirst that won't stop with water intake and increased hunger.

Diabetic complications are any diseases associated with hyperglycemia if the blood glucose is not managed properly. Patients with diabetes may induce several complications including cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and foot ulcer.

By managing your blood glucose properly and daily, the risk of diabetic complications can be reduced in diabetics by
*Take your medication as directed.

*Keeping tight control of your blood sugar or managing the blood glucose in the required range

* Eating healthy with moderate exercise to protect your weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Being overweight, blood pressure, and cholesterol are some of the conditions associated with an increased risk of diabetes complications.

* Get regular checkups

* Quit smoking

Beta-Sitosterol is a phytochemical in the class of Phytosterols, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in avocados, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, fennel, peanuts, soybeans, hawthorn, basil, and buckwheat. etc.

In finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention of chronic diseases involved in oxidative stress, researchers investigated the anti-diabetes activity of beta-sitosterol (β-sitosterol) on insulin signaling molecules and glucose oxidation.

According to the differentiation of the adipose tissue of a high-fat diet and sucrose-induced type-2 diabetic experimental rats given the dose of β-sitosterol (20 mg/kg b.wt, orally for 30 days), β-sitosterol normalized the altered levels of blood glucose, serum insulin in the tested rats.

Furthermore, the hormone testosterone, lipid profile, oxidative stress markers, antioxidant enzymes, insulin receptor (IR), and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) proteins associated with glucose uptake were also inhibited by the application of beta-sitosterol.

In other words, most parameters associated with the characteristics of diabetes were inhibited by the injection of the bioactive compound.

Based on the findings, researchers aid, "β-sitosterol improves glycemic control through activation of IR and GLUT4 in the adipose tissue of high fat and sucrose-induced type-2 diabetic rats".

Taken altogether, beta-Sitosterol may be considered a supplement for the treatment of diabetes, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of beta-Sitosterol in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose and acute liver toxicity.

#Greentea's EGCG) Inhibits Overexpression of #ProinflammatoryCytokines Associated with the Onset of #Arthritis, Scientists Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and progression and treatment of arthritis, some scientists suggested.

Arthritis is a class of chronic conditions characterized by painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints, usually seen in adults over the age of 65.

Others symptoms of arthritis also include redness, warmth, swelling, and decreased motion of the affected joints.

Rheumatoid Arthritis in severe cases can also affect bone density, cause skin nodules, eye,...... and lung inflammation and scarring.

As of today. there is no cure for the disease. Depending on the type of arthritis, analgesics and Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are common use for the treatment of pain and inflammation. However, in rheumatoid arthritis medicine, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and Corticosteroids are the first line of medicine used to suppress the active immune system that attacks its own joints.

Most arthritis is caused by wear and tear of the joints. However, long-term infection or injury without proper treatment can elevate the natural breakdown of cartilage tissue of the joints.

According to CDC(5), in the years of 2013–2015, approximately 22.7% or 54.4 million are affected by the disease, with significantly higher age-adjusted prevalence in women (23.5%) than in men (18.1%).

Although arthritis prevalence increases with age, physical inactivity is associated with a higher risk of arthritis development.

Sadly, the CDC continued, "With the aging of the US population, the prevalence of doctor-diagnosed arthritis is expected to increase in the coming decades. By the year 2040, an estimated 78.4 million".

Green tea is a precious drink that processed a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

According to the College of Pharmacy, green tea epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) in preclinical studies displayed a significant effect in the treatment of arthritic disease.

In vitro, application of green tea extract EGCG demonstrated activities in cartilage-preserving and chondroprotective action through reduced expression of proinflammatory IL-1β, TNFα, and IL-6
and modulated extracellular matrix (ECM) turnover induced changes in the biomechanical environment of chondrocytes and accelerate the degradation of cartilage as well as driving the progression of the disease in the presence of inflammation.

Normal extracellular matrix (ECM) is composed of collagen type II with a function to provide tensile support for the tissue.

Further analysis in the expression of proinflamatory factors researchers found that the over expression of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1 and IL-6 were associated correlatively in knee joints in arthritis and inhibition of IL-1 snd IL-6 by green tea EGCG IL-1 showed to reduce joint damage.

Some researchers also suggested that Interleukin 1 (IL-1) is a crucial mediator of the inflammatory response, playing an important part in the body's natural responses and the development of pathological conditions leading to chronic inflammation.

In an expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFα, cachexin, or cachectin), application of green tea inhibited the levels of TNFα in the induction of synovial fibroblast cytotoxicity.

Interestingly, in the study to evaluate the possible effects of the administration of green tea extract on the oxidative state of the liver and brain of adjuvant-induced arthritic rats, researchers indicated that green tea daily doses of 250 mg kg(-1) (59.8 mg catechins per kg) for 23 days displays a strong effect in decreased symptoms of arthritis by ameliorated diminutions in protein and lipid damage in liver, brain and plasma, through antioxidant effect in reduced levels of ROS in stimulated free radical chain reaction to initiate production of pro inflammatory cytokines in precipitated chronic diseases.

Rats treated with green tea EGCG also showed a significant improvement in restored natural antioxidant glutathione (GSH) and protein thiol levels produced by the body, by exhibiting the activities of the antioxidant enzymes.

Moreover, green tea injection also normalized the activity of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, which is increased in the liver of arthritic patients and considered as a risk factor for the development of arthritis. Increased activity glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase was associated to reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated in oxidative metabolism in inflicted damage on all classes of macromolecules.

Additional differentiation of green tea EGCG immunomodulatory effects and mechanisms on experimental arthritis induced by collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice compared to control received phosphate buffered saline (PBS), researchers found that application of green tea EGCG at dose of 10 mg/kg demonstrated a strong effect in ameliorated clinical symptoms and reduced histological scores, through modulated the immune activity by induced overexpression of the Nrf-2 antioxidant pathway, a major mechanism in the cellular defense against oxidative or electrophilic stress through detoxication and elimination.

EGCG also ameliorated experimental arthritis in mice by eliciting indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) through inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine interferon-gamma, astrocytes and microglia in facilitated production of dendritic cells (DCs) that activate the immune system to attack the dendritic cell located on the surface on the joint tissue.

Application of the EGCG also increased frequencies of T regs with a dominant role in the suppression of autoimmune pathology.

Some researchers suggested that increased Treg number and/or function in model systems may have a significant effect in both prevented and reversed arthritis disease.

Taken together, green tea with abundant bioactive polyphenol epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as a functional food for alleviated symptoms, reduced risk, and progression and treatment of arthritis.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi centers studies performed with human consumption of the green tea and its bioactive polyphenol epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG), during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of their anti arthritis possibilities.

#Omega3 Fatty Acids Process Anti #NonMelanoma #SkinCancer Activity Through Its Anti Proinflammatory Immune Response in Vitros

Kyle J. Norton

Skin, a large organ that forms the out layers of our body has serval layers of ectodermal tissue that protect the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments, and internal organs against foreign pathogenic invasion. Skin cancer is a medical condition characterized by disordered and irregular cell growth in the skin.

Most cases of primary skin cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner ling of the skin. At the advanced stage, the cancerous cells can travel a distance away from the skin to infect other healthy tissue and organ through blood and fluid circulation.

Melanoma is a kind of skin cancer but less common than other skin cancer as a result of the malignancy of melanocytes, which is the cell-produced dark pigment for your skin.

Approximately 120,000 new cases of melanoma in the US are diagnosed in a year. melanoma tends to spread along the skin in most cases but also can grow down to the deeper layers of the skin. At the later stage, it can spread to distant parts of the body, including organs.

Most cases of melanoma start in the melanocytes or pigment-producing cells in the outer layer of the skin. However, at a later stage, the cancer cells can travel through the circulation of blood and fluids to infect other healthy cells and tissue, leading to secondary metastasis.

The liver, lungs, bones, and brain are most often affected by melanoma metastases.

According to statistics, the risk of melanoma is largely dependent on race. The lifetime risk of getting melanoma is about 2.5% (1 in 40) for whites, 0.1% (1 in 1,000) for blacks, and 0.5% (1 in 200) for Hispanics.

The 5 years survival rate of melanoma is close to 100% if the disease is diagnosed in the localized stages.

In the US, every year, approximately 96,480 new melanomas are diagnosed, leading to the death of 7,000 people.

In North America, most cases of melanoma are associated with UVB exposure, causing the alteration of the cell DNA.

Nonmelanoma skin cancer is a type of skin cancer involved in basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

Omega-3 fatty acids are phytochemicals in the class of lipids, found abundantly in deepsea fisk, dark-green leafy vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, etc.

The three main components of Omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

In finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the role of omega-3 FA in the prevention of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC).

According to the results of the analysis* Dietary omega-3 FA dramatically reduces the plasma and cutaneous pro-inflammatory and immunosuppressive PGE(2) levels in vivo, compared to dietary omega-6 FA in the increase of prostaglandin E synthase type 2 (PGE(2)) level.

* Dietary omega-3 FA significantly reduces the inflammatory response and sustains, or enhances, the delayed-type hypersensitivity immune response in mice when compared to an equivalent dietary level of omega-6 FA.

* Supplementary omega-3 FA significantly increases the UVR-mediated erythema threshold in humans.

Furthermore, supplementary omega-3 FA significantly reduces the level of pro-inflammatory and immunosuppressive PGE(2) levels in Ultraviolet B-irradiated human skin.

In other words, omega-3 FA showed a strong implication on the immune response in the induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines induced the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC).

Taken together, Omega-3 fatty acids found abundantly in fish oil and plant oil may be considered a functional food for the prevention of skin cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of Omega-3 fatty acids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose and acute liver toxicity.

#Greentea's #EGCG/#TF Modulated the Expression of Tumor Progression by Suppressing the Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion of #LiverCancer, According to Studiesene

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a sustainable and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of liver cancer, Some studies suggested
Liver cancer is a medical condition caused by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the liver tissues. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away to infect other healthy organs and tissues.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "excessive yin syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

In the review of medical literature published online, green tea bioactive phytochemicals such as Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and Theaflavin (TF), in the prevention and treatment of liver cancer have been postulated by several mechanisms.

In liver cancer, animal model induced by chronic exposure to N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), a carcinogenic and mutagenic organic compound, application of green tea bioactive compounds Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and Theaflavin (TF) demonstrated a strong effect in reduced initiation of cancer formation and potential chemopreventive effect in pre and post-treatment of the injected animal.

Further observation showed that EGCG/TF action in restraining the over-expression of liver cancer was also found to modulate similarly to those of CD44-specific cell membrane binding combined with near-infrared irradiation in the induction of cellular apoptosis.

High CD44-positive expression is found to associate with acute cancer cell killing.

The restriction processes of EGCG/TF in modification of onset of liver cancer development was also found to modify multiple biogenesis involved in maintaining a relatively stable equilibrium in organs tissues(self-renewal Wnt/β-catenin, Hh/Gli1 pathways) in gene with an implication of cell cycle progression, apoptosis and cellular transformation and cell differentiation and proliferation(Cyclin D1, cMyc and EGFR) and tumor suppressor (E-cadherin) during the carcinogenesis processes.

The additional illustration also indicated that the therapeutic efficacy of tea polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and theaflavin (TF) also regulated the proteins expression of cell differentiation, polarity, and proliferation(the self-renewal Wnt and Hedgehog (Hh) pathways).during CCl4/N-nitosodiethylamine-induced mouse liver carcinogenesis.

Application of green tea bioactive tea polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and theaflavin (TF) induced chemopreventive potential in maintaining cell integrity at the 30 weeks of CCl4/N-nitosodiethylamine application.

Continuous administration of EGCG/TF exerted a strong impact in reduced proliferation and increased apoptosis, as well as decreased function of hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) in the participated restoration of the cancerous liver tissue and population with cancer, stem cell-like characteristics in liver carcinoma observed by AFP and CD44 expression.in CCl4/N-nitosodiethylamine-induced mouse liver carcinogenesis.

More interestingly, also during the restriction processes of EGCG/TF, the bioactive compounds also modulated the expression of tumor progression to a more invasive phenotype(phospho-β-catenin-Y-654), tumor suppressor(β-catenin), the proliferation, migration, and invasion of liver cancer gene(sFRP1 ) and gene in control tumor suppressor(β-catenin).

In other words, green tea EGCG/TF inhibited the contaminated cells inflicted by injection of CCl4/N-nitosodiethylamine to prevent the initiation of liver cancer through modulation of certain gene expressions involved in liver cancer progression.

In short, the inhibition of liver carcinogenesis by EGCG/TF was attributed to the reduction in hepatocyte progenitor cell and stem cell population in restored liver cancerous cell damage through various mechanisms indicated above.

Taken together, green tea bioactive ingredients epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and theaflavin (TF) may be useful secondary preventive agents for targeting liver cancer in combination with standard chemotherapies.

#Lycopene Inhibits the Parameters Associated with Reduced Mitochondrialfunction Through Antioxidant Activity, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Mitochondrial dysfunction is a condition that affects the organelles in the generated energy for the cell.
More precisely, mitochondria perform cellular respiration, by taking nutrients from the cell, breaking it down, and turning it into energy.

Mitochondria are the cells that convert food molecules into energy in the body. Mitochondria produce 90 percent of the energy for the body's function.

Furthermore, mitochondrial also play a critical role to induce the older or damaged cells to release cytochrome C, which activates enzymes involved in cell apoptosis.

Moreover, mitochondria also play an essential role in calcium absorption and calcium release that regulates cellular metabolism, steroid synthesis, and hormone signalings.

The genetic proposition that causes mitochondrial dysfunction has been found to alter the process of mitochondria in converting oxygen and food to energy in some people.

Acquired mitochondrial dysfunction has been found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, muscular dystrophy, Lou Gehrig’s disease, diabetes, and cancer.

The most common symptoms of mitochondrial dysfunction include poor growth, muscle weakness, muscle pain, low muscle tone, exercise intolerance, vision and/or hearing problems
learning disabilities, delays in development, and mental retardation depending on the location of the infected cells.

Lycopene is a phytochemical in the class of carotenoids, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,

Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world's diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.

With an aim to find a natural compound for the protection of mitochondrial function, researchers examined the effect of lycopene on preventing mitochondrial dysfunction during the d Galactosamine/lipopolysaccharide (d-GalN/LPS)-induced fulminant hepatic failure (FHF).

Based on the tested analysis, administration of d-GalN/LPS (300 mg and 30 μg/kg body weight, respectively) to the experimental rats showed a significant effect on several disturbances in mitochondrial function.

In other words, d-GalN/LPS administration not only increased the levels of lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxidation but also decreased the levels of mitochondrial antioxidants, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle that releases stored energy through the oxidation, and electron transport chain enzymes associated with cellular detoxification and the cellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that provides energy to drive many processes in living cells,.

However, lycopene (10 mg/kg body weight for 6 days) pretreatment showed strong activity in attenuating lipid peroxidation and prohibiting the excessive synthesis of hydrogen peroxide.

Furthermore, lycopene also inhibited the GalN/LPS-induced impairment in ATP production. Parameters associated with reduced mitochondrial function were effectively prevented by the lycopene administration.

More precisely, the mitochondrial protection of lycopene was mainly attributed to the strong antioxidant potential of its phytonutrient by preventing lipid peroxidation in the mitochondrial membrane.

Based on the results researchers said, "The carotenoid lycopene combatted oxidative stress, scavenged free radicals, prevented ROS generation, and inhibited the toxic effects of d-GalN/LPS during FHF".

Taken altogether, lycopene found in tomatoes may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of mitochondrial dysfunction, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose and acute liver toxicity.

Coffee's High Amount of Intake Daily Is Associated with a Significant Positive #LungCancer Risk, Scientists Find

Kyle J. Norton

A recent study suggested that regular high amounts of caffeinated coffee consumption may be associated with an increased risk of lung cancer.
Lung cancer is a medical condition characterized by abnormal growth of the cells in the lung's tissue.

At the advanced stage, the cancerous cells can travel a distance away from the lung to infect other healthy tissue and organs

The most common form of primary lung cancer is derived from epithelial cells.

In the US, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death. Approximately, 88,329 men and 70,354 women died from the disease, according to 2007 statistics.

Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common type of lung cancer, developed in the squamous cells of the lung.

Although the exact causes of lung cancer are debatable, some researchers suggested that smoking, second-hand smoke, exposure to certain chemicals, lung disease, family history,..... and excessive alcohol drinking are associated with a substantially increased risk of the disease.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roast beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In the clarified risk of coffee in induced lung cancer, the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry conducted a search in the database of PubMed and Embase, from 1966 to January 2009. In 5 prospective studies and 8 case-control studies involving 5347 lung cancer cases and 104,911 non-cases selected, researchers found that
* Coffee's high amount of intake is associated with a significant positive lung cancer risk.

*. The risk of lung cancer is increased by 14% for additional 2 cups consumed daily.

Dr. Wang Y, the lead author said, "A linear dose-response relationship exists between (caffeinated) coffee consumption and risk of lung cancer".

Interestingly, prospective studies conducted in America and Japan showed a significantly associated increased risk of lung cancer in the highest coffee consumption, but borderline significantly associated with decreased risk of lung cancer in non-smokers compared to studies conducted from other countries.

And people drinking decaffeinated coffee showed a decreased risk of lung cancer in all studies.

Other, in the review of seventeen studies (5 cohort and 12 case-control studies) involving 12 276 cases and 102 516 controls met the predetermined inclusion criterion, extracted from a database of literature, the total risk of caffeinated coffee intake and lung cancer incidence was 1.17 in compared to non-drinkers.

Also compared to nondrinkers, the relative risk of lung cancer was associated with a number of a cup per day consumed,
* 1.10 (95% CI: 0.92-1.31) for ⩽1 cup per day,

* 1.10 (95% CI: 0.93-1.30) for 2-3 cups per day,
and
* 1.20 (95% CI: 1.02-1.39) for ⩾3 cups per day.

More importantly, Dr. Xie Y, the lead author said, " Significant associations for high coffee intake with increased risk of lung cancer were observed in men (OR=1.41 95% CI: 1.21-1.63), but not in women (OR=1.16, 95% CI: 0.86-1.56), ..... but not in nonsmokers (OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.64-1.11)".

Taking it all together, there is no doubt that regular coffee intake in large amounts is associated linearly with an increased risk of lung cancer in men and smokers.
