Artichoke, The Best For the Treatment of Insulin Resistance (IR) in Patients with TCF7L2-rs7903146 Polymorphism

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a natural whole food for the treatment of insulin resistance with no side effects, according to studies.

Insulin resistance is a syndrome in which the cells in your muscles, fat, and liver do not respond well to insulin produced by the pancreas in converting glucose to energy, leading to high levels of sugar in the blood.

The causes of insulin resistance may be associated with the clogged up of the insulin receptor site that binds to insulin and passes its message to the cell.

Insulin resistance is a hallmark of diabetes.

Prediabetes is a term used to indicate a high level of blood glucose levels is higher compared to the normal range but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.

The increase in age, family history, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and abnormal waist-hip ratio are some prevalent risk factor of insulin resistance.

Interestingly, in the concern of long-term use of certain medication in the risk of insulin resistance such as glucocorticoids, antipsychotic, researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center, wrote, "Atypical antipsychotic (AAP) medications that have revolutionized the treatment of mental illness have become stigmatized by metabolic side effects, including obesity and diabetes"

And, "olanzapine, an AAP highly associated with weight gain, causes significant elevations in postprandial insulin, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), and glucagon coincident with insulin resistance compared with placebo. Aripiprazole, an AAP considered metabolically sparing, induces insulin resistance but has no effect on postprandial hormones".

The doctor team continued, "Importantly, the metabolic changes occur in the absence of weight gain, increases in food intake and hunger, or psychiatric disease".

The findings suggested that if you are taking certain medication for the treatment of anxiety, please make sure you discuss the side effects with your doctor for preventive measure.

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a liver protective and detoxified agent, and to treat digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural compound for the treatment of insulin resistance examined the effects of ALE supplementation on metabolic parameters of the TCF7L2-rs7903146 polymorphism in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS).

The double-blind clinical trial included 80 patients with MetS in Sina Clinic, Khoy, Iran. randomly assigned to ALE or placebo groups to receive either ALE (1800 mg/d as four tablets) or matching placebo for 12 weeks.

According to the anthropometric indices, blood pressure, glucose and lipid profile levels measured before and after the study, injection of ALE supplementation decreased insulin level and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in patients with the TT genotype of TCF7L2-rs7903146 polymorphism (P < 0.05).

The finding strongly suggested that artichoke extract inhibited the expression of insulin resistance in a 12 weeks study in patients with the TCF7L2-rs7903146 polymorphism.

In order to reveal more information about artichoke extract anti-insulin resistance, researchers once again investigated the effects of ALE supplementation on metabolic parameters in women with MetS.

This study included a total of 50 women (aged 20-50 years) with MetS were randomly allocated into the two groups. with the "ALE group" (received 1,800 mg hydroalcoholic extract of artichoke as four tablets per day) and the "placebo group" (received placebo consisted of cornstarch, lactose, and avicel as four tablets per day) for 12 weeks.

Surprisingly, in the carriers of A allele of the FTO-rs9939609, ALE supplementation showed a statistically significant decrease in serum triglyceride level compared with placebo without affecting the insulin parameter.

The results strongly suggested that ALE inhibited the insulin resistance selectively only on patients with the TCF7L2-rs7903146 polymorphism.

Taken altogether, artichoke may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance in carriers of the TCF7L2-rs7903146 polymorphism, pending to the results of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Bilberry May Process Anti Cancers Potency, Researchers Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Bilberry may be the potential target used by conventional medicine in the future for the treatment of cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

Cancer is a class of medical condition characterized by cell growth irregularly due to the alternation of cell DNA.

Most cases of cancers begin in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the body tissues and do not cause any symptoms at the early stage.

However, invasive cancer at the advanced stage can cause localized symptoms accompanied by the cancer general symptoms and its cells can also travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissues and organs, leading secondary metastasis.

According to the US government statistics, the prevalent risk of cancer development is 439.2 per 100,000 men and women per year based on 2011–2015 cases, causing the death of 163.5 per 100,000 men and women per year.

The exact causes of cancer are unknown. Epidemiologically, certain factors are associated with the prevalent risk of cancer including age, ethnicity, long-term exposure to toxic chemicals, and genetic preposition.

Some researchers suggested that the widespread obesity in the Western world, particularly in North America may have a strong impact on the increased risk of cancer. According to statistics, over 68% of American are either overweight or obese.

Dr. Giovanni De Pergola, the lead scientist in the assessment obese in cancer risk said, "The number of cancer cases caused by being obese is estimated to be 20% with the increased risk of malignancies being influenced by diet, weight change, and body fat distribution together with physical activity".

And, "Reports from the International Agency for Research into Cancer and the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) have shown that the strongest evidence exists for an association of obesity with the following cancer types: endometrial, esophageal adenocarcinoma, colorectal, postmenopausal breast, prostate, and renal, whereas the less common malignancies, are leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, malignant melanoma, and thyroid tumors".

The results strongly clearly suggested if you are obese, your risk of cancer is increased substantially compared to non-obese individuals.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Scientists on finding a natural and potential compound for the treatment of cancer examined the anthocyanins anticancer activity in rodent models of cancer in-vitro and in- vivo.

Bilberry anthocyanins as chemopreventive agents showed a significant effect in 25 colorectal cancer patients. The result has opened a new window of opportunity in translating the findings from laboratory to clinic.

According to the study, anthocyanins treated cancer cells by stimulating the production of the tumor suppressor genes.

Application of anthocyanins also inhibited the cancer cell proliferation through activating the protein associated with cell death programming.

Dr. Sehitoglu MH and colleagues wrote in the final report, "his review we bring to limelight how anthocyanins induced apoptosis in cancer cells via activation of extrinsic and intrinsic pathways".

In order to reveal additional information about bilberry anti-cancer effects, researchers investigated the anthocyanins (A(V.uli)) bioactivity on suppressing cancer cells.

Malvidin, the major compound isolated from A(V.uli) at a dose-dependent inhibited cancer cell proliferation with an IC(50) (50% inhibitory concentration) value of 50 µg/ml.

The findings strongly reconfirmed the anti-cancer effects of anthocyanin extraction. A(V.uli) from the bilberry.

Taken altogether, bilberry processed a high amount of bioactive compounds such as delphinidin, cyanidin, petunidin, peonidin, and malvidin may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of cancer with no side effects, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Curcumin, the Single Bioactive Compound Which Processes Cardioprotective Property Against Heart Disease, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a kitchen bioactive compound which processes cardio-protective properties, according to studies.

Cardioprotection is an action that contributes to the protection of heart integrity against damage or injury.

In other words, cardioprotection is a process in which substances or medicines are used including an herbal remedy to protect heart muscle tissues against ischemic insult and deoxygenation injury.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a class of conditions associated with the dysfunction of the arteries and heart.

Coronary artery disease caused by narrowing of the arteries, heart attack, abnormal heart rhythms, or arrhythmias and stroke are the most common types of cardiovascular diseases found in the Western world.

Most common symptoms of CVD include persistent fatigue, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, and fainting.

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure that you check with your doctor to rule out the CVD possibility.

The exact causes of cardiovascular diseases are unidentified. However, according to epidemiological studies, the most prevalent factors include aging, smoking. lack of exercise. unhealthy diet. obesity. high blood pressure and cholesterol, and family history.

Out of many risk factors, an unhealthy lifestyle is one of the major risk factors that cause the onset of CVD, some researchers suggested.

Dr. Haskell WL in the investigation of cardiovascular disease prevention and lifestyle interventions
said, "While heredity can be a major factor for some people, their personal health habits and environmental/cultural exposure are more important factors".

And, "Not smoking, being physically active, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying reasonably lean, and avoiding major stress and depression are the major components of an effective CVD prevention program. For people at high risk of CVD, medications frequently need to be added to a healthy lifestyle to minimize their risk of a heart attack or stroke, particularly in persons with conditions such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, or hyperglycemia. Maintaining an effective CVD prevention program in technologically advanced societies cannot be achieved by many high-risk persons without effective and sustained support from a well-organized health care system".

The results strongly suggested by lifestyle change has a strong implication in the prevention of the CVD.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

With an aim to find a potential compound which processes cardioprotective effects, researchers investigated the cardioprotective effect of curcumin in NE-induced cardiac apoptosis
According to the tested assays, curcumin protected the cardiomyocytes against apoptosis significantly.

Furthermore, injection of curcumin also reverted to cardiomyocytes damage back to the normal physiological state.

In other words, curcumin protected the integrity of heart muscle cells against Norepinephrine (NE) in the induction of the onset of cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

Dr. Manghani C, the lead scientist said, "curcumin has the potential to act as a therapeutic agent for the attenuation of NE-induced cardiac cell death and modulation of apoptosis in H9c2 cardiomyocytes".

Taken altogether, turmeric may be considered a  cardioprotective supplement for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Bilberry, The Kidney Protective Functional Remedy, Scientists Say

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a single herb for the treatment of kidney diseases without side effects, according to studies.

Kidneys are 2 bean shape organs found in the left and right side in the retroperitoneal space in the body.

The function of kidneys is to filter blood and control fluids. They are the second detoxed organs besides the liver and skin.

Due to millions of tiny filters called nephrons in each kidney, people may not experience any kidney dysfunction symptoms at an early stage.

Kidney diseases are a class of medical condition associated with reduced function of the kidney, in cases, complete loss of kidney function such as kidney failure.

Believe or not, in the US, the leading causes of kidney failure and the end stage of chronic kidney diseases are diabetes and high blood pressure.

Some researchers suggested that if the 2 causable conditions are under control, kidney failure and the end stage of chronic kidney diseases may be prevented or delayed.

According to the statistics, in the US, over 660,000 Americans have kidney failure, affecting 14% of the general population.

Dr. Hariharan D, the lead scientists in the concern of the negative impact of the Western diet on the risk of chronic kidney disease wrote, "Characteristics of the Western diet that fueled the obesity epidemic may also impact kidney disease incidence and progression".

And, "While dietary patterns high in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in red meats, such as the Mediterranean diet, decrease the risk of chronic diseases, the Western diet, characterized by high intake of red meat, animal fat, sweets, and desserts and low intake of fresh fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy products, increases risk of chronic diseases".

The findings strongly suggested that increased intake of fruits and vegetables and reduced intake of saturated and trans fat, processed food are the best ways to prevent the onset of kidney diseases.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The herbal plant has been used as foods and herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Researchers in finding a natural compound with kidney protective activity examined the bilberry ( Vaccinium myrtillus L.) extract anti kidney damage in an animal model.

In potassium bromate (KBrO3) induced kidney damage by observed through the increased levels of serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine levels, 5 day oral administration of bilberry ( Vaccinium myrtillus L.) extract at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg exerted a significant kidney protective activity by restoring the normal levels of reversal in serum BUN and creatinine.

Furthermore, injection of bilberry extract reduced the oxidative stress marker in the kidney and the levels of free radicals in the host body by improving the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) in kidney tissues.

The results strongly supported the kidney protective effect of bilberry extract by reducing the degree of oxidative stress and kidney damage induced by KBrO3.

Dr. Bao L and colleagues wrote in the final report, "The protective effect of bilberry extract is attributed to its free radical scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation inhibitory effect".

In order to reveal more information about bilberry antioxidant activity, researchers observed the kidney protective effect on bilberry diet in a rat model of nephrotoxicity.

Selected rats were divided into 4 groups: control, treated with only gentamicin, treated with only bilberry, and treated with both gentamicin and bilberry.

Injection of bilberry diet group (100 mg/kg daily) showed a strong nephroprotective effect against gentamicin toxicity in rats by inhibiting the oxidative stress marker and improving the production of antioxidants.

Additional differentiation of the bilberry antioxidant activity, researchers found that the protective activity of bilberry extract against kidney damage is attributed to antioxidant via its polyphenolic content, particularly the anthocyanin levels.

Taken altogether, bilberry processed high amount bioactive compounds may be considered a remedy for the prevention and  treatment of kidney damage, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Artichoke, the Anti Hypercholesterolemia Herbal Remedy with No Side Effects, Scientists Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a herbal remedy for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia with no side effects, according to studies.

Cholesterol, a waxy substance produced by the liver plays a critical role in making hormones, vitamin D, building a strong cell membrane and digestive fluids. However, overexpression of cholesterol has been found to induce high blood pressure and heart diseases.

Not all cholesterols are bad, high-density lipoprotein, the type of cholesterol which returns the cholesterol back to the liver are constantly keeping the bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) in check.

The healthy ratio of total cholesterol is 4 (LDL)/1 (HDL) or lower.

Hypercholesterolemia is a medical condition of abnormally high cholesterol levels in the blood compared to hyperlipidemia which is considered a syndrome of abnormally elevated levels of any or all lipids or lipoproteins in the blood.

People with high blood cholesterol do not experience any symptom. However, the condition has been found to associate with the increased risk of heart diseases and stroke. particularly, atherosclerosis.

Where atherosclerosis is a disease involved the accumulation of plaque on the arterial wall, leading to arterial blockage in facilitating cardiovascular diseases, depending on the location of the blockage.

Although there are many risk factors associated with the onset of high blood cholesterol, some researchers an unhealthy diet is one of the major risk factors that cause hypercholesterolemia in North America.

Dr. Joan Carles Escola`-Gil, the lead scientist in the evaluation of the Western diet risk of hypercholesterolemia in mice wrote, ". Unlike a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, the A high–saturated fatty acid– and cholesterol-containing (HFHC) diet increased liver ABCG5/G8 expression. The effect of the HFHC diet on fecal macrophage-derived [3 H]cholesterol excretion was totally blunted in ABCG5/G8-deficient mice".

The results strongly suggested that if you follow the diet rich in high–saturated fatty acid–and cholesterol, your risk of hypercholesterolemia is increased many folds, compared to healthy adults with a traditional diet.

According to medical analysis, hypercholesterolemia is a form of hyperlipidemia, high blood lipids, and hyperlipoproteinemia.

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine for as liver protective and detoxified agent, and to treat digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

Scientists on finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, compared the effects of well-established antiatherosclerotic drug atorvastatin (CAS number 134523-00-5) and commercially available artichoke leaf tincture (ALTINC) in an animal model.

The selected animal in the study was divided into five groups:
* The group I (the control group of rats fed with standard diet during 11 weeks), and the remaining 4 groups of rats (II, III, IV, and V) fed with standard diet during the first week and then with hypercholesterolemic diet during the next 10 weeks.

*The group II of rats were left without treatment, while in the groups III, IV, and V were rats treated per os with atorvastatin (1.15 mg/kg body weight--b.w.), ALTINC (0.1 mL/kg b.w.) and their combination in same doses, respectively, for the last six weeks.

During the experiment, group IV treated ALTINC exerted a significant effect against the abdominal aorta wall thickness and parameters of oxidative stress induced by a high-fat diet, observed by the oxidative stress markers.

Rat treated with ALTINC also enhanced the production of antioxidant enzymes by the host that was suppressed by the high-fat diet feeding in the inhibition of lipid peroxidation, the condition was found to be associated with patients with hypercholesterolemia.

The results suggested the artichoke leaf tincture is a very potent antioxidant with beneficial effects in the early stages of atherosclerosis by reducing the overexpression cholesterol associated with plaque accumulated on the arterial wall.

In order to know more information about artichoke antihypercholesterolaemic effects, researchers examined the artichoke leaf extract (ALE) in lowering the levels of blood cholesterol.

By searching the databases of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL, The Cochrane Library) (2012, Issue 5); MEDLINE Ovid (1966 to May Week 2, 2012); EMBASE Ovid (1980 to 2012 Week 19); and CINAHL Ebsco (1982 to May 2012) on 17 May 2012, researchers selected 3 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) for the review./

In the first trial, the total cholesterol level in participants receiving ALE decreased by 4.2% from 7.16 (0.62) mmol/L to 6.86 (0.68) mmol/L after 12 weeks, compared to the increase from 6.90 (0.49) mmol/L to 7.04 (0.61) mmol/L in patients receiving placebo.

In the second trial, ALE reduced total cholesterol levels by 18.5% from 7.74 mmol/L to 6.31 mmol/L after 42 ± 3 days of treatment, whereas placebo reduced cholesterol by 8.6% from 7.69 mmol/L to 7.03 mmol/L.

The third trial stated that ALE significantly reduced blood cholesterol compared with placebo in a subgroup of patients with baseline total cholesterol levels of more than 230 mg/dL.

The review strongly suggested artichoke may process a potential for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia with no side effects.

Taken altogether, artichoke may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of high blood cholesterol, pending to the reconfirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Ginger, the Potential Anti-Septic Functional Remedy, Scientists Show

By Kyle J. Norton

On seeking a natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have found a kitchen pungent spice for the prevention and treatment of sepsis, according to studies.

Sepsis is a medical condition caused by the body over-response to infection by releasing a large number of chemicals into the bloodstream, leading to chemicals imbalance that can damage multiple organ systems.

Most common sites of infection leading to sepsis are found in older patients with the lungs, urinary tract, tummy (abdomen) and pelvis.

The causes of sepsis, in most cases, are involved in people with a weakened immune system or a severe infection that allow the inflammation to spread to the entire body.

Sepsis can be life-threatening due to the interruption of blood flow to the body caused by inflammation in the induction of blood vessel constriction.

The risk factors of sepsis include any medical conditions which can lead to a weakened immune system, such as AIDs and chemotherapy, the very young (immature immune system) and old (weakened immune system due to aging), pregnancy and diabetes.

Most common symptoms of sepsis are associated with symptoms of reduced blood flow, including, a decrease in mental ability,  problems breathing. abnormal heart functions, fall blood pressure, fall in body temperature. unconsciousness.

If your child or yourself experience some of the above symptoms, please call the emergency services right the way.

Some researchers suggested that people who are obese may have a negative implication on the immune system in fighting against infection that can cause sepsis.

Dr. A S Kolyva, the lead scientists said, "Sepsis is one of the most important causes of mortality in the developed world, where almost two-thirds of the population suffer from obesity".

And, "Obesity is associated with elevated TNFα adipose tissue production and increased oxidative stress biomarkers, promoting the proinflammatory response in septic patients".

These results strongly suggested that obesity may induce overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines that not only initiates the onset of sepsis and also increases the potential negative impact on the outcome.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

With an aim to find a natural compound or food for the treatment of sepsis, researchers investigated the effects of a phenolic alkanone isolated from ginger in various pharmacological activities, including sepsis.

Injection of ginger exerted a modulatory effect on HMGB1-mediated septic responses and survival rate in a mouse model of sepsis.

The modulation of ginger was attributed to the suppression of the production of the inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6 and the activation of proteins associated with inflammation induced by HMGB.

High mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is a protein associated with the immune protective response by restoring the endothelial cells which line the interior surface of blood vessels and lymphatic vessels integrity.

Furthermore, injection of ginger also inhibited HMGB1-mediated hyperpermeability and leukocyte migration in the initiation of inflammation in mice.

Moreover, in vivo, ginger inhibited the lymphopoiesis (CLP) in stimulating the production of the release of HMGB1, sepsis-related mortality, and tissue injury.

In order to reveal more information about ginger antisepsis activity, researchers examined zingerone (ZGR), a bioactive compound isolated from ginger on TGFBIp-mediated septic responses.

Similar to that of the above, ZGR reduced the TGFBIp-mediated severe inflammatory responses in human endothelial cells and mice.

Injection of ZGR suppressed TGFBIp-induced sepsis lethality and pulmonary injury.

Dr. Min G, the lead scientist, after taking into account co and confounders wrote in the final report, "ZGR could be a potential therapeutic agent for treatment of various severe vascular inflammatory diseases via inhibition of the TGFBIp signaling pathway".

Taken altogether, ginger may be considered a functional remedy for the treatment of sepsis, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Honey, the Best Remedy for the Prevention and Treatment of Diarrhea

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a natural alternative for the treatment of diarrhea, according to studies.

Diarrhea is a condition of loose, watery stools. Acute diarrhea is a common problem in the North American that lasts in a very short time.

However, chronic diarrhea can be worrisome. Most common causes of chronic diarrhea are diseases associated with the gastrointestinal tract, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis), malabsorption syndromes.

According to the statistics, acute diarrhea is one of the common cause of death among children younger than 5 years old worldwide.

The disease is associated mostly in the countries which poor environmental sanitation, inadequate water supplies, and poverty.

There are many risk factors involved the onset of the syndrome, including demography, socio-economy, poor water supply, poor sanitation, poor hygiene practices, breastfeeding, and malnutrition.

Some researchers suggested that a severely weakened immune system such as the use of immune suppressive medicine and the elderly may also at a higher risk of diarrhea.

Dr. Bouchaud O in examing the risk immune deficiency and diarrhea wrote, "With a prevalence of approximatively 50%, diarrhea is a frequent event in an immune deficiency of any cause".

And "Gram-negative infections and Clostridium difficile colitis have to be diagnosed because efficient treatment is available. In these patients usually in bad general condition, because diarrhea is often of unknown aetiology or noncurable, the diagnostic and therapeutic strategy has to be pragmatic in order to control the symptoms without an excess of invasive procedures".

These results clearly suggested that if you have a severely weakened immune system, you are at higher risk of bacterial infected diarrhea.

Honey is the miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid It is considered one of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

Researchers on searching a natural compound for the treatment of diarrhea evaluated the honey gastroprotective effect against diarrhea.

Injection of honey induced a significant reduction in the duration of bacterial diarrhea, and it had worked well as a substitute for glucose in an oral rehydration solution containing electrolytes.

In nonbacterial gastroenteritis, honey exerted a similar effect as glucose on the duration of diarrhea.

In an array of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, most pathogenic bacteria failed to grow in honey at a concentration of 40% and above, similar to those studies of honey on Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis, and Candida albicans failed to grow in the presence of undiluted honey in vitro experiments.

Honey-agar all intestinal bacterial pathogens failed to grow at a concentration of 40% and above of pure honey, compared to those of bacterias in control plates and different growth media.

Scientists wrote in the final report, "Findings from studies on honey have thus shown that when given with an ORS it shortens the duration of bacterial diarrhea and may safely be used as a substitute for glucose, provided that the solution contains electrolytes".

In order to reveal more information about honey anti-diarrhea activity, researchers examined the honey on diarrhea and fecal microbiota in critically ill patients.

The double-blind, randomized controlled single-center study, included 32 patients randomly selected to receive a high protein kitchen enteral diet or honey as 10% of its carbohydrate intake.

The treatment group showed an insignificant increase in the frequency of bifidobacterium DNA by study day 7 in comparison with the control group and a considerable reduction in diarrhea.

Honey group also reduced the length of the Intensive Care Unit and the development of organ failure in critically ill patients.

Taken altogether, honey may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.
