Phytochemical Isothiocyanates, the Cardio-Protective Organic Agent

By Kyle J. Norton

Bioactive dithiolthiones found in cruciferous vegetables may be the next generation ingredient for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, some scientists suggested.

Dithiolthiones are phytochemicals in the class of Organosulfides, found abundantly in cruciferous vegetables, garden sorrel, horseradish, etc.

Cardiovascular disease is a class of condition associated with the heart and blood vessels. In other words, CVD can be a result of anything that impedes the function of heart and blood vessels.

According to the CVD statistics, heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans every day. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.
There are many causes of cardiovascular disease. Most CVD is caused by high blood pressure which contributes to the hardening of the arteries.

Plaques building up inside the arteries as a result of high blood cholesterol and other substances such as calcium overtime can harden and narrow the arteries, leading to a blood clot, a major cause of CVD.

Other risk factors associated with the onset of cardiovascular disease include unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, being overweight and smoking.

Dr. Haskell W, Stanford University, School of Medicine in the examine the lifestyle change in the risk of CVD indicated that there is a strong relationship between the way a person or population lives and their risk for developing or dying from cardiovascular disease (CVD).

How to prevent the onset of CVD
He wrote, "Not smoking, being physically active, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying reasonably lean, and avoiding major stress and depression are the major components of an effective CVD prevention program"/

For people with higher risk CVD, the doctor continued, "medications frequently need to be added to a healthy lifestyle to minimize their risk of a heart attack or stroke, particularly in persons with conditions such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, or hyperglycemia".

With an aim to find a natural ingredient or whole food with cardioprotective effect, researchers examined whether sulforaphane protects the heart against I/R injury.

Sprague-Dawley rats selected to the study were given sulforaphane (500microg/kg/day) or vehicle intraperitoneally for 3 days and global ischemia was performed using isolated perfused Langendorff hearts.

Treatment with sulforaphane inhibited an increase in the post-ischemic left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) and improved the post-ischemic left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP), +/-dP/dt, and coronary flow as compared with the untreated control hearts.

Sulforaphane markedly decreased the infarcted size and attenuated the increased lactate dehydrogenase level in effluent during reperfusion, similar to that of 5-hydroxydecanoic acid (5-HD).

Application of sulforaphane also attenuated the post-ischemia increased the concentration of atrial natriuretic peptide in coronary effluent and decreased levels of free radicals produced during and after injury.

Particularly, sulforaphane also protected the heart cell against damage and apoptosis by promoting heart cell cycle division.

The finding clearly indicated the cardioprotective effect of the sulforaphane against acute  I/R injury.

In order to understand the therapeutic effect of sulphoraphane protecting the myocardium from ischaemic reperfusion injury, researchers compared the cardio effects among cooked and fresh broccoli.

The study included two groups of rat fed with fresh (steamed) broccoli or cooked broccoli for 30 d, while a third group was given vehicle only for the same period of time.

At the end of the study, by examing the 30 min ischemia followed by 2 h of reperfusion, researchers surprisingly found that both cooked and steamed broccoli display significantly improved post-ischaemic ventricular function and reduced myocardial infarction and cardiomyocyte apoptosis compared to control, but steamed broccoli showed superior cardioprotective abilities compared with the cooked broccoli.

These results were attributed the broccoli effect in enhancing the levels of proteins associated with cell survival, increasing the levels of antioxidant and decreasing the levels of proteins associated with cells damage and apoptosis.

More importantly, the expressions of redox proteins (the thioredoxin (Trx)) associated with the reduction of oxidative stress were enhanced only in the steamed broccoli group.

Dr. Mukherjee S, the lead scientist said, "the present study documented superior cardioprotective properties of the steamed broccoli overcooked broccoli because of the ability of fresh broccoli to perform redox signaling of Trx"

Taken altogether, Isothiocyanates or sulforaphane may have a potential effect on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Sulforaphane (Isothiocyanates), the Neuroprotective Plant Base Bioactive Compound

By Kyle J. Norton

Dithiolthiones, the bioactive compound found abundantly in the cruciferous vegetables may have a potential effect on reducing the risk of neurodegenerative disease, some scientists found.

Dithiolthiones are phytochemicals in the class of Organosulfides, found abundantly in cruciferous vegetables, garden sorrel, horseradish, etc.

A neurodegenerative disease is a group of conditions which primarily affect the neurons in the brain, including Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease.

In other words, a neurodegenerative disease is caused by the progressive death of neurons in different regions of the nervous system.

The progressive loss of neurons induced neurological and neuropsychological signs and symptoms have also been found in comparison to the stage of disease onset of patients.

The causes of neurodegenerative diseases are unknown,  However, researchers do know that the increase in age is one most consistent risk factor for developing a neurodegenerative disease, especially AD or PD, as the disease has been found over 60% in the population aged 65 and beyond compared to another group.

And this numbers is found to increase at the alarming rate. Dr. Serge Przedborski, the lead author in the investigate the risk of neurodegenerative disease in elderly said, "it can be anticipated that, over the next generations, the proportion of elderly citizens will double, and, with this, possibly the proportion of persons suffering from some kind of neurodegenerative disorder".

Epidemiologically, geographical, hereditary and viral and toxicological exposure correlates and deficiencies of elements such as calcium and selenium are some of the risk factors in the development of neurological diseases.

Also, people who follow the Western diet pattern are at the increased risk of the disease. According to the 2018 Alzheimer's Association International Conference, July 22-26, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois, the Western diet is known to include high consumption of red meats, processed meats, as well as fatty and fried foods. This dietary pattern has been linked to a greater risk of cognitive decline and dementia.

As the autopsied participants' brains followed the Western diet showed a significant change of neuropathologies such as β-amyloid plaques, tau tangle density, neocortical Lewy bodies, cerebral atherosclerosis, among others.

This analysis may indicate that by changing to a healthy diet with a high in fruits and vegetables and whole grain and less in saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed foods, the risk of neurodegenerative disease can be reduced substantially.

Researchers on the finding a natural ingredient or whole food investigated the epidemiologically suggested that sulforaphane, an organosulfur compound present in cruciferous vegetables processed neuroprotective effects in experimental in vitro and in vivo models of neurodegeneration. Using the Morris water maze researchers tested the sulforaphane effects on scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice.

Sulforaphane (10 or 50mg/kg) was administered to C57BL/6 mice by oral gavage for 14 days (days 1-14), Memory impairment was induced by intraperitoneal injection of scopolamine (1mg/kg) for 7 days (days 8-14).

Mice receive an injection of scopolamine showed impaired learning and memory retention and considerably decreased cholinergic system reactivity in the hippocampus and frontal cortex. The results were observed by a decreased acetylcholine (ACh) level and increased acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity.

Where acetylcholine (ACh) is a neurotransmitter, associated with the function in sending signals to other cells [neurons, muscle cells, and gland cells] and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is an enzyme that catalyzes the breakdown of acetylcholine.

Treatment of sulforaphane significantly attenuated the scopolamine-induced memory impairment and improved cholinergic system reactivity.

In other words, sulforaphane exerted a neuroprotective effect against the scopolamine in the induction of oxidative stress to the neurons. Sulforaphane at the doses of 10 or 20μM increased the ACh level, decreased the AChE activity, and increased ChAT expression in scopolamine-treated primary cortical neurons.

Dr. Lee S, the lead scientists suggest "Sulforaphane might exert a significant neuroprotective effect on the cholinergic deficit and cognitive impairment".

Additionally, in the concern of no drugs treatment of schematic/traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease which share common characteristics such as oxidative stress, misfolded proteins, excitotoxicity, inflammation, and neuronal loss, researchers investigated the effect of sulforaphane against the mentioned diseases.

In several in vitro and in vivo studies isothiocyanate sulforaphane, derived from the hydrolysis of the glucosinolate glucoraphanin mainly present in Brassica vegetables, has demonstrated neuroprotective effects.

The efficacy was attributed to the activity of sulforaphane in activating the Nrf2/ARE pathway in modulating the expression of oxidative stress.

Dr. Tarozzi A, the lead author in the final report of the experiment wrote, " sulforaphane appears to be a promising compound with neuroprotective properties that may play an important role in preventing neurodegeneration".

More importantly, in dopaminergic neurotoxicity in mice induced by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), the phytochemical showed the neuroprotective effect through its ability to enhance the antioxidant enzymes of the host and improve neuronal survival.

Ginger, The Best Functional Food For Symptoms of Nausea and Vomiting

By Kyle J Norton

Scientists may have discovered a pungent and kitchen spice which processes a significant effect in reducing nausea and vomiting with no side effects, according to some studies.

Nausea and vomiting are the natural protection of the digestive system reacted to many causes, including food poisoning, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), an ulcer, or bulimia.

Morning sickness or nausea and vomiting are common experiences in pregnancy, affecting 70–80% of all pregnant women.

Nausea and vomiting that often develop by five to six weeks of pregnancy are the results of the rise of the hormone estrogen in the early stage of pregnancy. The syndrome may get even worse in women have a sensitive stomach which tries to adapt to the changes of pregnancy.

Morning sickness in the pregnancy may seem obvious in general population, however in a group of women with severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy due to hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), an entity distinct from nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP),  may lead to significant maternal and fetal morbidity if untreated.

Dr.Noel M. Lee, the lead author at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the study " Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy" said, "Various metabolic and neuromuscular factors have been implicated in the pathogenesis of NVP and HG; however, their exact cause is unknown. Consequently, treatment of NVP and HG can be difficult as neither the optimal targets for treatment nor the full effects of potential treatments on the developing fetus are known".

Where hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a pregnancy complication characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and possibly dehydration.

Other causes of nausea and vomiting are due to the prolonged period exposure to stress and long-term fatigue.

Patients who are having chemotherapy are associated with an increased risk of nausea and vomiting because of the injection of chemo drugs can affect parts of the stomach and brain that detect toxic (poisonous) substances.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The pungent spice has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

With an aim to clarify the effect of ginger extract in treating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), a joint study led by Taipei Medical University-Shuang Ho Hospital was conducted to determine whether ginger could be used to treat CINV, which was interpreted using the PICOS (patient, problem/population, intervention, comparison, outcome, study) framework, with P being patients who underwent chemotherapy.

After searching the studies in English from 2000 to 2017 databases. 2 on a total of 10 studies with complete data. was included in the meta-analysis using Comprehensive Meta-analysis.

Ginger exerted a significant effect in reducing the symptoms of nausea and vomiting with the odds ratio (OR) of 0.71

Further analysis also discovered that ginger could only reduce acute CINV in patients, particularly acute vomiting.

After taking additional ]assessment of the co and confounders, Dr. Chang WP the lead scientist said, "Ginger displayed significant efficacy with regard to controlling CINV in the experimental groups".

In the reaffirming the effect of ginger in the early pregnancy symptoms of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP), a joint study led by the Iran University of Medical Sciences launched an evaluation to compare the effects of ginger, pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and placebo.

The triple blind clinical trial on pregnant women suffering mild to moderate NVP between 6 and 16 weeks of pregnancy.

In these women ginger, 500 mg twice daily, vitamin B6 40 mg twice daily and placebo twice daily were administered for 4 d.

The severity of NVP was evaluated 24 h before entering the study and up to 4 d after using medications and results were compared among the three groups.

The women of the three groups did not have significant differences according to age, gestational age, parity, and severity of each symptom before treatment and educational status.

After assessing the returned questionnaires, researchers indicated
* Ginger and vitamin B6 could reduce the severity of all items of Rhodes questionnaire significantly.

* Ginger and vitamin B6 were more effective than placebo

* total score of Rhodes did not show a significant difference between ginger and vitamin B6 (p = .128). Ginger was more effective for nausea (intensity and distress).

These results once against illustrate the efficacy of ginger in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy.

Taken altogether, there is no doubt that ginger may be used as a functional food for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in both early pregnancy and side effects of chemo treatment.

Chaste tree berry (Vitex agnus-castus), the Functional Herb for the Prevention and Treatment of on Hyperprolactinemia with No Side Effects

By Kyle J. Norton

Hyperprolinaemia is a condition characterized by overexpression of the level of prolactin in the blood produced by the lactotroph cells of the anterior pituitary gland.

Normally, the expression of hormone prolactin is to enhance breast development during pregnancy and to induce lactation.
In non-pregnant women, elevated levels of prolactin can disrupt the normal menstrual period in women, causing the complication of infertility, abnormal lactation, amenorrhea,  irregular periods, breast pain and painful sexual intercourse.

Most common caused of the onset of hyperlactatemia is the result of the growth of a tumor on the pituitary gland. Most cases of the pituitary gland are noninvasive, however, if the tumor is growing large enough, it can suppress the nearby nerve cells, causing headache and vision problems.

Some researchers suggested the syndrome can also be caused by long-term use of certain medication.
Dr. Daria La Torre, the lead author in the study "Pharmacological causes of hyperprolactinemia" said, "Several drugs may determine a significant increase in prolactin serum concentration that is frequently associated with symptoms. The so-called typical antipsychotics are frequently responsible for drug-related hyperprolactinemia"

And, "Risperidone is one of the atypical neuroleptics most likely to induce hyperprolactinemia, while other atypical drugs are infrequently and only transiently associated with increase of prolactin levels" and "Antidepressant drugs with serotoninergic activity, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO-I) and some tricyclics, can cause hyperprolactinemia.".

Therefore, if you are taking the above medication, please make sure you discuss the problem with your doctor.

In fact, some women experience the syndrome of hyperprolactinemia with unknown causes.

Most common conventional treatment target the symptoms and reducing the size of the tumor. The unknown causes of hyperprolactinemia are treated with synthetic thyroid hormone.

Medication used for the treatment of hyperprolactinemia including Medical treatment of dopamine agonists (DA): bromocriptine, lisuride, quinagolide, and cabergoline. And in over 80% of cases, these drugs induce normal prolactinemia and ovulatory cycles.

If you are taking one of these medications for the treatment of hyperprolactinemia, please make you know all the side effects

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region,.

The plant has been used in herbal medicine for thousands of year as an anaphrodisiac herb and considered a Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts by taking it in a prolonged period of time.

There was a report that chaste tree berry stems and leaves used by women as bedding "to cool the heat of lust" during the time of the Thesmophoria.

With an aim to reaffirming the traditional use of Vitex agnus-castus L. (chaste tree; chaste berry for the treatment of a range of female reproductive conditions in Anglo-American and European practice, researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology-University conducted an experiment to examine the effect of the herbal medicine in women with premenstrual syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and latent hyperprolactinaemia.

In the search based on the Cochrane risk of bias and Jadad scales on the database of medical literature identifies 13 Thirteen randomized, controlled trials and twelve are included in this review, of which eight investigated premenstrual syndrome, two premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and two latent hyperprolactinemia.

Application of the Vitex agnus-castus in latent hyperprolactinemia suggested that the herbal medicine is superior compared to placebo for reducing TRH-stimulated prolactin secretion, normalizing a shortened luteal phase, increasing mid-luteal progesterone and 17β-oestradiol levels.

And Vitex comparable to bromocriptine for reducing serum prolactin levels and ameliorating cyclic mastalgia. Adverse events with Vitex were mild and generally infrequent.

These results indicated, Vitex extracts in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and latent hyperprolactinemia.

Furthermore, Dr, Milewicz A, in the finding natural medicine with no side effect in the treatment of hyperprolactinemia conducted a randomized double-blind study vs. placebo to evaluate the efficacy of a Vitex agnus castus preparation (Strotan capsules) vs. placebo.

The clinical study involved 52 women with luteal phase defects due to latent hyperprolactinemia.

The participants were given a daily dose of one capsule (20 mg) Vitex agnus castus preparation and placebo.

In the assessment of the blood for hormonal analysis taken at days 5-8 and day 20 of the menstrual cycle before and after three months of therapy.

Women who were received the Vitex agnus castus preparation showed a reduction of prolactin release after 3 months.

The shortened luteal phases of these women were normalized and deficits in the luteal progesterone synthesis were eliminated.

These changes were significant and occurred only in the Vitex group.

Side effects were not seen during the experiment and two women treated with the Vitex agnus castus preparation got pregnant.

Taken altogether, Chaste tree berry (Vitex agnus-castus)  may be considered functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of hyperprolactinemia

Ginger In the Prevention and Treatment of Nonalcoholic Hepatic Steatosis (Fatty Liver)

By Kyle J, Norton

Ginger may have a profound effect in reducing the risk and treatment of hepatic steatosis, the early stage of liver disease, some scientists suggested.

Hepatic steatosis or fatty liver is a condition caused excess fat accumulated in the liver.

At the early stage of hepatic steatosis, the patient may not experience any symptoms. However, at the condition progress, the condition induces liver inflammation, which may progress to scarring and irreversible damage. Patients at this stage can have symptoms of abdominal swelling, enlarged blood vessels in the skin and spleen accompanied by jaundice.

The most common risk factors are the increase in age, (older than 45 years of age).  overweight and obesity and ethnicity.

However, some researchers suggested the coincidence of widespread obesity and the onset of hepatic steatosis might indicate a closed correlation of the e 2 conditions.

Dr. Festi D, the lead author in the finding the relation between obesity and hepatic steatosis that causes a wide spectrum of liver damage as simple steatosis may progress to advanced fibrosis and to cryptogenic cirrhosis through steatohepatitis launched an investigation to examine the risk of hepatic steatosis in obese patients.
After taking account co and confounders wrote, "Obesity is the most significant single risk factor for the development of fatty liver, both in children and in adults; obesity is also predictive of the presence of fibrosis, potentially progressing to advanced liver disease".

The risk of fatty liver may be associated with insulin resistance in the obese patients that play a central role in the accumulation of triglycerides within the hepatocytes and in the initiation of the inflammatory cascade.

Although conventional treatment with insulin-sensitizing agents, anti-oxidants or cytoprotective drugs may be useful, however, they are no randomized clinical trials to support the efficacy.
As of today, there is no direct treatment of hepatic steatosis but relieve the symptoms.

Some researchers suggested, modifications in lifestyle (e.g. diet and exercise) to reduce obesity remain the mainstay of prevention and treatment of a disease,

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

It has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

In the finding a natural whole food which may have a potent to prevent and treat nonalcoholic fatty liver, researchers at the Tajen University, Yanpu Township investigate the effects of [6]-gingerol ((S)-5-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3-decanone) in experimental models of the non-alcoholic fatty liver.

[6]-Gingerol (100 µmol/l) inhibited OA-induced triglyceride and inflammatory marker accumulation in HepG2 cells.

In the study of male golden hamsters were dosed orally with [6]-gingerol (25, 50 or 100 mg/kg/day) once daily for 8 weeks after being fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 2 weeks, injection of [6]-Gingerol (100 mg/kg/day) alleviated liver steatosis, inflammation, and reversed plasma markers of metabolic syndrome in HFD-fed hamsters.

[6]-gingerol also attenuated the expression of inflammatory cytokine genes and nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB) increased in the HFD group.

These results indicated a significant effect of [6]-Gingerol in the attenuation of the HFD-induced steatohepatitis by downregulating NF-κB-mediated inflammatory responses and reducing hepatic lipogenic gene expression.

Additionally, in the concern of widespread Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) may reach epidemic proportions, Dr. Sahebkar A. launched a study to evaluate the ginger effect at the "two-stage hypothesis" proposed for the pathophysiology of NAFLD, insulin resistance, oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory cytokines among the key promoters of the disease.

Application of ginger prevent NAFLD or blunt its progression via several mechanisms, such as sensitizing insulin effects, and down-regulates pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Ginger promoted considerable antioxidant effects and antidyslipidemic properties and reduced hepatic triglyceride content which can prevent steatosis.

All these mechanisms suggested that ginger possesses interesting potentials for serving as a natural supplement for the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.

Herbal Chamomile Kills Cancer Cells Before They Can Spread

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a herbal plant which processes a strong potential for the treatment of cancer without inducing any side effects, some studies suggested.

Cancers are a class of diseases associated with the irregular and disorder cell growth in the tissue or organs in the body due to the alternation of cell DNA.

Most cases of cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the tissue and organ tissue. However, as the cancer proliferation, they can penetrate into the deeper layers of the tissue or organ.

At the advanced stage, the primary cancer site can travel a distance away from the primary site to infect other healthy tissue and organ through fluids and blood circulation.

The exact causes of cancer are unknown. According to the epidemiological studies, the most common risk factors associated with the early onset of the diseases are smoking and tobacco, diet, physical inactivity, long-term exposure to the.sun and radiation and a certain type of virus and bacteria.

Out of all the risk factors that increase the cancer risk, physical activity is one of the factors which has not been under intensified study by the science community.

In the study to examine the accumulate on the benefits of physical activity in relation to cancer risk, progression, and mortality, researchers suggested
Sedentary behavior may independently affect cancer risk

* The associations with physical activity, including cancer risk factors existed for precancerous lesions.

Although researchers know that physical activity is an important issue associated with the onset of cancer, they do not know the subgroup risk defined by body size, age or sex and tumors subgroups defined by the organ location, receptor status, or molecular subtype.

Chamomile is also known as camomile, the common name of many species daisy-like plants in the family Asteraceae.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory constituents and to treat menstrual cramps and sleep disorders, reduce cramping and spastic pain in the bowels, relieve excessive gas and bloating in the intestine, etc.

In the reaffirming the traditional use of chamomile for the treatment of chronic ailments, researchers examine the anticancer properties of aqueous and methanolic extracts of chamomile against various human cancer cell lines.

Chamomile extracts a significant decrease in cell viability in various human cancer cell lines without inducing herm to the healthy cells.

Injection of the herbal extract causes the apoptosis of cancer cells, with causing herm to the normal cells.

The anti cancers effect of chamomile extract was attributed to the bioactive compound apigenin 7-O-glucoside, the major constituent of chamomile; some minor glycoside components.

These results reconfirm the use of chamomile extract in the treatment of cancers in traditional medicine.

Furthermore, the study to compare the anticancer activity of phenolic profile of six herbal infusions namely Cretan marjoram, pink savory, oregano, mountain tea, pennyroyal and chamomile by LCDAD-MS and by GC-MS, suggested
* All herbal infusions exhibit antiradical activity correlated positively with total phenolic content

* All infusions exhibit the potential to inhibit cell proliferation and to reduce IL-8 levels in HT29 colon and PC3 prostate cancer cells.

* The efficacy of all herbal medicines in inhibition of cancer cell line was attributed to the activation of the proteins associated to the cell death programming and production of the inflammatory cytokine.

Interestingly, in the comparison the cancer property of 20 essential oil from herbal plants, Dr. Mitoshi M, the lead scientists indicated, EOs from the herbal plants showed patterns of inhibition of DNA replicative property, similar to their cancer cell growth inhibitory activity, and their inhibitory activity and EOs from chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.) showed significant effects on both cancer cell growth and mast cell degranulation.

Taken altogether, chamomile extract, essential oil may be used with no side effects for the prevention and combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of cancers.

Honey, The Functional Food Which Kills Bladder Cancer Cells in Vivo and Vitro, Scientists Find

By Kyle J. Norton

Scientists may have found a  natural food source which processes the potential for the treatment of bladder cancer with no side effects, some studies suggested.

Bladder cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the bladder.

Most cases of the primary bladder cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the bladder tissue.

At the early stage, most bladder cancers do not cause any symptoms. However, at the advanced stage, the prostate can cause a distance metastasis to infect other healthy tissue and organ through the circulation of blood and fluids.

At this advanced stage, patients may experience symptoms of pain and blood in the urine caused by the proliferative tumor suppressing the nerve cells and breaking the blood vessels in the bladder.

Researchers do not the exact causes of bladder cancer. But certain risk factors such as tobacco use, aging, gender, ethnicity, long-term bladder condition and exposure to chemicals are at a higher risk of the onset of the disease.

The warning from the FDA also suggested the diabetes drug pioglitazone for more than 1 year may have a higher risk of developing bladder cancer.

In fact, most people with some of the above risk factors have never developed bladder cancer even they are associated with the increased risk all their life.

Although most scientists agree that tobacco use is the major cause of bladder cancer, genetic preposition, according to the epidemiological studies is also the substantial risk of bladder cancer, such as the genetic mutations in some chromosomal genes, such as FGFR3, RB1, HRAS, TP53, TSC1, and others, occur which form tumors in the urinary bladder.

Sadly, People with gene mutation are at the 70 %  higher risk of bladder cancer compared to those do not.

Dr. Zhang X, the lead author in the study "Bladder Cancer and Genetic Mutations" specified, "The changes in the genes of human chromosome 9 are usually responsible for tumor in bladder cancer, but the genetic mutation of chromosome 22 can also result in bladder cancer". and "The 18 different bladder tumors were evaluated, and 11 (61 %) had genetic mutations of p53 gene".

And, "The 18 different bladder tumors were evaluated, and 11 (61 %) had genetic mutations of p53 gene".

Honey, is the miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid is considered one of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

With an aim to find a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of bladder cancer without inducing any side effects, researchers at the University of Tsukuba conducted an experiment to examine the antitumor effect of bee honey against bladder cancer in vitro and in vivo.

The study included three human bladder cancer cell lines (T24, 253J, and RT4) and one murine bladder cancer cell line (MBT-2).

In vitro studies application of honey significantly inhibited the proliferation of T24 and MBT-2 cell lines by 1-25% honey and of RT4 and 253J cell lines by 6-25% observed by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay.

Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) labeling index, an indicator of early tumor response to the injection of honey was lower in vitro.

FCM showed lower S-phase fraction, as well as the absence of aneuploidy compared with control cells.

Flowcytometry (FCM). in the measurement of can cancer cells physical and chemical characteristics showed lower S-phase fraction and the absence of aneuploidy compared with control cells, an indication of inhibitory cancer cells by the application of honey.

Furthermore, In the in vivo, intralesional injection of 6 and 12% honey, as well as oral ingestion of honey, significantly inhibited tumor growth.

These results suggested that bee honey processes a significant activity for inhibiting the growth of T24, RT4, 253J, and MBT-2 bladder cancer cell lines in vitro.

And, honey is also effective when administered intralesionally or orally in the MBT-2 bladder cancer implantation models.

Dr, Swellam T, the lead author after taking into account co and confounders wrote, " Our results are promising,,,,,, the mechanisms of the antitumor activity of honey".

Taken altogether, honey may be considered a functional food for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of bladder cancer.

However, further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food or its bioactive compounds during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of honey anti-bladder cancer possibilities.
