Top 4 Studied Proof Fruits for Reducing Symptoms, Risk, Progression and Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia(BPH)

Kyle J. Norton

Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) is a condition characterized by increased number of cells of prostate gland, causing partial, or sometimes virtually complete obstruction of the urinary tract.

According to statistic, BPH commonly starts at age of 30 and symptoms usually can not be realized until age of 50.

More than half of men between age of 60-70 are experience some symptoms of BPH and only 10% are required treatment.

Suggestion of BPH is associated to nutritional status and eating habits.

According to the study, 30 male patients with clinically confirmed and treated disease of the prostatic gland, including 15 men (aged 51-75 years) with BPH and 15 men (aged 51-73 years) with PC, improper nutritional status induced incorrect nutritional habits, may be the cause of the development of some diet-dependent diseases, such as BPH and prostate cancer(a).

A proper diet with vegetable, fruit containing zinc may reduce the risk of the disease from initiation(b)(c).

Epidemiological studies strongly suggested that intake of vegetables and fruits accompanied with healthy life style are associated in reduced risk and treatment of enlarged prostate(d)(e)(f),through enhancing antioxidants activity in inhibited over production of prostate cells(g)(h).

4 Fruits for reducing risk of Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)
1. Orange

Orange is a species of Citrus Sinensis, belongings to the family Rutaceae and native to the Southeast Asia.

According to study, the extract of red orange juice (ROE) inhibited proliferation of fibroblast and epithelial prostate cells in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(22).

2. Water melon and strawberry

Lycopene, a member of the carotenoid family, found abundantly in Water melon, strawberry, exerted significant antioxidants effect against formation of prostate disease(23).

In he study of Profluss® included serenoa repens+Selenium+Lycopene on prostatic chronic inflammation (PCI) in 168 subjects, the compositions exhibited anti-inflammatory activity for treatment of PCI in BPH and/or PIN/ASAP patients(24).

In jection of Serenoa repens, lycopene and selenium were superior than Serenoa repens alone in reducing benign prostatic hyperplasia, through reduction of prostate weight, hyperplasia, cell proliferation and growth factor in augmentation of apoptosis(25) in compared to other treatment groups.

3. Cranberry
Cranberry is a species of Vaccinium oxycoccos, belongings to the family Ericaceae.

In the study to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) powder in men at risk of prostate disease with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) researchers suggested that the application displays a positive effect in lower total PSA level on day 180 of the study(26) and reduced urinary tract symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia(27).

Further more cranberry also found to reduce symptoms of dysuria, nocturia, urinary frequency and urgency) in a group pf 270 of BPH patients(28).

Taken together, the evidences finding postulated that adding some portions of orange, water melon, strawberry and cranberry may have a potential effect in reduced symptoms,  risk, progression and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).

The Science Base of Herbs in Induced Weight Loss and Weight Maintenance

By Kyle J. Norton

Overweight and obesity have reached epidemic proportions in many countries, causing economic burden in increased absentees in the workplaces and funding for health care system in dealing with obesity-related disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases(1).

One of six Malaysian are either extreme overweight or obese, according to Datin Paduka Santha Kumari, chairman of the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Diabetes Association and the global health observatory, at least 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being overweight or obese, and an estimated 35.8 million (2.3%) of dalys global burden of disease are caused by overweight or obesity(2).

Epidemiological studies, linking herbal medicine, foods and vitamins in preventing and treating these diseases have been inconclusive(a)

Some researchers suggested that intake of certain herbal medicine may enhance appetite suppression.

According to the Georgetown University Medical Center, appetite of average daily food intake was decreased only with the herbal formulation, regardless numbers of single ingredient  in comparison of the effectiveness among herbal formulation and a commonly available(3).

Other researchers insisted that using herbs and supplements to induce weight loss should be taken with care, as a considerable number of reports have been published on hepatotosicity associated to intake of  herbal products(4)(5)(6)(7).

The College of Medicine, The Ohio State University insisted that various dietary, lifestyle, and psychological factors are involved in the etiology of Prameha, in initiated disturbances of fat and carbohydrate metabolism in over weight and obese(8), without effective management, obtaining a workable weight loss plan may be extremely difficult.

1. Ginseng
Ginseng is a slow-growing perennial plants with fleshy roots, the genus Panax, belongings to the family Araliaceae. Depending to the climate where it grows, ginseng can be classified mainly into Panax ginseng Asian ginseng (root), Red ginseng, wild ginseng, American ginseng (root)(14).

In 10 obese middle-aged Korean women who took Panax ginseng extracts for 8 wk, showed effectively in influence on gut microbiota in promoting weigh loss but depending to the composition of gut microbiota prior to ginseng intake(15).

In mice fed with high-fat diet, ginseng saponin and ginsenosides exerted anti-obesity effects via the modulation of physiological lipid metabolism in vivo or intracellular signalling in cell culture systems and abnormal physiology of leptin, insulin, and adiponectin  in energy and lipid metabolism(16).

2. Zingiber Officinale(Ginger
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root is the genus Zingiber, belongings to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil, used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.(17).

According to the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Slimax (extract of several plants including Zingiber officinale and Bofutsushosan) showed a significant decrease in body weight or inhibited weight gain(18).

Application of composition of multi-ingredients supplement containing primarily raspberry ketone, caffeine, capsaicin, garlic, ginger and Citrus aurantium, also improved body composition, waist and hip girth, in an eight-week diet and exercise weight loss program(19).

In a comparison of the weight loss effect of Orlistat, a pharmacological agent promoting weight loss, injection of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Zingiberacae) in male albino rats induced a great ability to reduce body weight without inhibiting pancreatic lipase level, or affected bilirubin concentration, and increased peroxisomal catalase level and HDL-cholesterol(20).

3. Cissus quadrangularis (CQ)
Cissus quadrangularis is an ancient herb used to treat a variety of indications, belongings to the grape family, probably native to India or Sri Lanka.

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design study involving 123 overweight and obese persons (47.2% male; 52.8% female; ages 19-50). conducted by University of Yaoundé I, Cissus quadrangularis, application of cissus quadrangularis displayed a statistically significant net reductions in weight and central obesity, as well as normalized metabolic syndrome(21).

In comparison of the efficacy of Cissus quadrangularis-only and Cissusquadrangularis/Irvingia gabonensis combination, on weight loss in overweight and obese human subjects, cissus quadrangularis-only group showed significant reductions on all variables in compared to the placebo group, but lower effects in compared to the cissus quadrangularis/Irvingia gabonensis combination group(22)

Intake of CQR-300, a proprietary extract of Cissusquadrangularis, also demonstrated a significant deceased weight and blood glucose levels, serum lipids, thus improving cardiovascular risk factors, according to the University of Yaoundé I,(23).

4. Sambucus nigra
Elder also known as Common Elder, is a shrub or small tree of the genus Sambucus of 30 specie, belongings to the family Adoxaceae, native to the temperate-to-subtropical regions of both the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere, used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat constipation, colic, diarrhea, colds, flu, bronchial and upper-respiratory, irritation of the skin, rheumatism, etc.

The composition of supplement with Sambucus nigra and Asparagus officinalis study, expressed an effectiveness in reduced weight, blood pressure, enhanced physical and emotional well-being and  quality of life(24).

The Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Sambucus nigra study, also demonstrated a significant decrease in body weight in numbers of animal studies(25).

5. Asparagus officinalis
Asparagus is a flowering plant belongings to species the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, and northwest Germany, northern Africa and western Asia,  used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavour and diuretic properties(26).

Asparagus officinalis L. powder tablets provided 19 mg saponins per day in overweight and obese subjects reduced mean weight, blood pressure, and enhanced physical and emotional well-being and the quality of life with the rate of very good or good in most of the completers(27).

In 12 weeks supplementation of a botanical extract-based weight loss formula, including Asparagus, researchers at the Poznan University of Medical Science, indicated that the formula exerts a significantly change of the body composition improvement index (BCI), inducesgreater weight loss than placebo, probably through a concurrently performed exercise program recommended strategy for life style modification(28).

6. Slimax
Slimax (extract of several plants including officinale and Bofutsushosan), in the reviews of the data base of studies published, researchers showed that intake of Slimax indices a significant decrease in body weight(29).

In 41 animal studies, the formula was found to be effective in significant induced weight loss or inhibited of weight gain(29).

Taken altogether, the above herbs may be effectiveness in enhanced weight loss through suppression of appetite and improvement of syndrome induced by over weight and obesity. However, intake of herbal supplement and composition should only be prescribed by herbal doctors.

FDA banned Ephera (Ma Huang) weight loss products in 2004
[Ma Huang is also known as ephedra. The acrid, slightly bitter and warm herb has been used in TCM to promote urination and sweating, and rid of cold, sooth wheezing asthma, ...., by enhancing the functions of lung and bladder channels(9).

According to the Dongguk University, certain chemicals found in Ephera showed an association with changes of BW and BMI through alteration of gut microbiota varied by indigenous microbiota of tested subject(10).

The combined study of a low-calorie diet and Ephera, in 125 otherwise healthy obese women, showed effectively in reducing BMI. RMR change not compensated for by the herbal medicines tried.

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) change seemed to be affected by constitution and body composition rather than by medicine(11). The Dongeui University study of composition GGEx18( Laminaria japonica, Rheum palmatum, and Ephedra sinica) in high fat diet-induced obese mice suggested that GGEx18 improves obesity through skeletal muscle AMPK and AMPK-stimulated expression of PPARα and its target enzymes for fatty acid oxidation, through inhibited lipid accumulation, and similar activation of genes(12).

Please note that due to its adverse reactions of palpitations, stress, headache and insomnia and stroke, heart attacks, cardiac arrhythmias, seizures and psychotic effect, the FDA banned the product on 2004, the Dutch Inspectorate for Health Care and the Ministry of Health in Canada have recently requested a market recall of some ephedrine-containing herbal products in response to above adverse reactions. In the Netherlands, the status of Ephedra-containing products is currently reconsidered(13)]

Herbal Therapy: Herbal Anise In Reduced Risk, Progression and Treatment of Colon Cancer

Kyle J. Norton

Anise may have a potential and substantial effect in reduced risk and progression and treatment of colon cancer, some scientists suggested.

Anise is a flowering plant ofthe species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belongings to the family Apiaceae native to to Egypt and the Mediterranean region, used in traditional herbal medicine as fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, ....

Chemical comstituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

In the study of a green synthesis route to produce AgNPs by using an aqueous extract of Pimpinella anisum seeds (3 mM) on human neonatal skin stromal cells (hSSCs) and colon cancer cells (HT115) researchers found that under infleunces of Anise extract, AgNPs exhibited a strong cytotoxicity effect against hSSC cells and HT115 cells through inhibited the cell proliferation and induced apoptosis, in dose dependent manner, according to proliferation tests and cell viability assays.

Further differentiation also suggested that green-synthesized AgNPs exerted a significant effect against five infectious bacteria: Staphylococcus pyogenes (29213), Acinetobacter baumannii (4436), Klebsiella pneumoniae (G455), Salmonella typhi, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa which have been associated to increase risk of colon cancer.

After taking into account of other con founders, Dr. Alsalhi MS, the lead author suggested that
P. anisum-synthesized AgNPs as novel and cheap bioreducing agents for eco-friendly nanosynthetical routes in treatment of colon cancer.

Moreover, the examine 3 commercially grown native herbs unique to Australia, Tasmannia pepper leaf (Tasmannia lanceolata R. Br., Winteracea; TPL), anise myrtle (Syzygium anisatum Vickery, Craven & Biffen, Myrtaceae; AM) and lemon myrtle (Backhousia citriodora F. Muell, Myrtaceae; LM) as well as a reference sample bay leaf (Laurus nobilis L., Lauraceae; BL), cytoprotective properties in colon adenocarcinoma (HT-29) cells, indicated that Anise demonstrated a potential effect in inhibited colon  cancer cell line HT-29 with IC(50) through
increased antioxidant activity in reduced expression reactive oxygen species in initiation of cancer cell proliferation.

Additionally, Application of Anise promoted colon cancer cells death by activating caspase-3 enzyme in enhanced the killer T cells activity to initiate cancer cells apoptosis by killer T cells.

According to the Cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome assay, application of Anise extract inhibited colon adenocarcinoma (HT-29) cells at concentration of 0.5 and 1.0mg/ml. without causing harm to the neighbor healthy cells.

The above analysis were supported by the study in evaluated the effect of the volatile preparations of essential oils of the Greek plants Ocimum basilicum (sweet basil), Mentha spicata (spearmint), Pimpinella anisum (anise) and Fortunella margarita (kumquat) on model of human colon carcinoma.

Application of the herbal preparation expressed a significant activity in precipitated cytotoxicty effect in some infectious microorganisms associated to facilitation of the early state of colon cancer.

According to the DPPH and ABTS assay, application of all herbal essential oils also increased expression of antioxidant in decreased free radical expression in elevated cancer cell in cycle division.

Dr. Fitsiou E, the lead author said, "All essential oil preparations exhibited a variable degree of antiproliferative activity, depending on the cancer model used, with the most potent one being sweet basil against an in vitro model of human colon carcinoma".

The information findings suggested that Anise may be considered as a functional herb for reduced risk, progression and treatment of colon cancer. However, intake of Anise extract should be taken with care as some supplement have been found to induced acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Therapy: Herbal Anise in Ameliorated Risk, Progression and Treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Systemic Diseases

Kyle J. Norton

Anise may have a potential and substantial effect in reduced inflammatory expression in induction of symptoms of swelling, redness pain, hot,..., some scientists suggested.

Inflammation is the natural reaction of immune system in protect our body against microorganism in the acute phase of infection.

Chronic inflammatory diseases are medical conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel diseases, and others typically stimulate a systemic response of the entire body.
According to the investigation of the essential oil of air-dried Illicium anisatum (Illiciaceae), obtained by hydrodistillation effect in LPS in induction of inflammation in RAW 264.7 cells, researchers at the Jeju Hi-Tech Industry Development Institute found that application of the essential oil demonstrated  a moderate free radicals scavenging observed through the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) spectrophotometric method and anti-elastase activities in inhibited Alpha-1 antitrypsin in initiation of inflammation.

Application of Anise essential oil also displayed a significant effect in ameliorated the production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) by activated macrophages in facilitated production of inflammatory cytokines in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection in dose dependent manner.

These results suggested that  essential oil isolated from anise exerts a strong antioxidant effect in inhibited oxidative stress through ameliorated production of reactive oxygen species in initiated chain reaction activities to precipitated expression of iNOS and COX-2 proteins in production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) to facilitate localized inflammation and elicit pyrexia, pain sensation.

Further more, application of essential oil also demonstrated a cytotoxic effects in protected skin against inflammation observed by colorimetric MTT assays  in human dermal fibroblast and keratinocyte HaCaT in skin cells.

Additionally, in the study of anethole with different doases of 125, 250, and 500 mg/kg on the development of paw oedema and mechanical hypernociception, researchers at the Universidade Estadual de Maringá indicated that the bioactive compound displays a therapeutic effect in exhibited anti inflammatory effect through inhibited the levels of the cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), a cell signaling protein (cytokine) involved in systemic inflammation in the acute phase of infection  and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), a cytokines with function in regulation of immune and inflammatory responses to infections or sterile insults and interleukin-17 (IL-17), acytokine produced by a group of T helper cell in response to local inflammation and myeloperoxidase, a oxidative enzyme activity.

Interestingly, injection of anethole reduced inflammatory expression of paw oedema without altering prostaglandin E2, plasma AST and ALT levels. These result suggested that the bioactive compound did not cause any liver toxicity according to the histological profile of liver tissue.

The efficacy of Anise anethole isolated from star Anise in reduced risk of chronic inflammatory related diseases are supported by the study of BALB/C mice intraperitoneally administered anethole at dose of 62.5, 125, 250, or 500 mg/kg 1 h before intratracheal treatment with LPS (1.5 mg/kg) and sacrificed after 4 h conducted by the Dr. Kang P and colleagues.

The injection of anethole exerted a strong anti inflammatory effect in inhibited the LPS in initiated the production of inflammatory mediators such as matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), with dou function as inflammatory cytokine and an anti-inflammatory myokine, produced at the site of inflammation and in acute phase response and nitric oxide (NO) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.

The anti inflammatory effect of anethole also reduced in LPS-induced acute lung injure through suppressing the activation of NF-κB involved in cellular responses to stimuli such as stress, cytokines, free radicals by blocking IκB-α degradation. IκBα is a cellular proteins with function in inhibited the NF-κB transcription factor.

Taken together, Anise and its major compound anethole may be considered as a natural anti inflammatory and analgesic agent and combined with conventional medicine for treatment of chronic inflammatory related diseases.

Food Therapy: Fennel and its Bioactive Anehtole in Attenuated Risk, Progression and Treatment of Periodontitis (PD)

Kyle J. Norton

Fennel may have a therapeutic effect in reduced risk, progression and treatment of periodontitis, some scientists suggested.

Periodontitis (PD) is a dental condition characterized by inflammation of the tissue around the teeth, resulted in shrinkage of the gums and loosening of the teeth if untreated.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In the investigation of bacterial Eschericia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 30 µg) injected bilaterally into the palatal gingiva (3 µL/site) between the upper first and second molars every two days for 10 days in anesthetized rats, researchers found that application of trans-anethole, an bioactive found in fennel or ketoprofen (10 mg/Kg, i.p.) started 20 minute before LPS injection and continued for 10 days, exert a significant activity in decreased bacterial infection in induced symptoms of swelling, redness, pain,....

Further analysis suggested that both injections display significantly suppressed levels of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), a cytokine with function in regulation of immune and inflammatory responses to infections or sterile insults and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α ), a cell signaling protein involved in systemic inflammation in the acute phase of infection, in compared to Eschericia coli lipopolysaccharide treated rats group.

Moreover, researchers also indicated that bioactive tran-anethole demonstrates a similar effect to rats group treated with conventional medicine ketoprofen without inducing any side effects.

Also in the examine the continuous investigation of trans- anethole effect in modified periodontitis (PD) through the expression of the voltage-gated L-type Ca2+ channel and KCa2+ channels function, showed that administration of fennel bioactive compound also ameliorated the function of
of LPS in induced inflammatory molecules production by.inhibiting above channels expression.

Trans-anethole also attenuated the levels of substance P, bradykinin, histamine and serotonin in facilitated the production of pro-inflammatory factors such as IL-1β and TNF-α in initiated and progression of periodontitis.

Additionally, in the evaluation of chewing the fennel and cardamom seeds on plaque and salivary pH in 50 patients with periodontitis, aged 18-60 years attending V.S dental College and Hospital randomized in to two groups for chewing fennel and cardamom seeds. Salivary pH and plaque PH at baseline and immediately after chewing seeds for 5 minutes and after 10 min researchers indicated that the mean salivary PH scores at baseline, immediately and 10 minutes after chewing fennel seeds was 7.1, 7,3 and 7.5 and the mean salivary PH scores at baseline, immediately and 10 minutes after chewing cardamom seeds was 7.4 , 7.6 , 7.76, in compared to the the mean values of salivary PH scores at baseline, immediately and 10 minutes after chewing cardamom seeds was 7.4 , 7.6 , 7.76 and the mean plaque pH scores at baseline, immediately and 10 min after chewing fennel seeds was 7.4, 7.55, 7.53.

These findings suggested that chewing both fennel seeds and cardamom seeds are equally effective in increasing salivary and plaque pH.

Dr. Priti Basgauda Patil and colleagues said, "saliva, as a mirror of oral and systemic health, is a valuable source for clinically relevant information because it contains biomarkers specific for the unique physiologic aspects of periodontal diseases".

Increased salivary reduced levels of total free sialic acid are associated to decreased risk of periodontitis initiation.

Long term expression of low plaque pH is also associated to loss of mineral from the tooth, one of many factors in increased periodontitis risk.

These results postulated an important role of chewing the seeds can be used to lubricate and moisten the mouth, while at the same time providing caries protection to highly susceptible individuals with periodontitis (PD).

The evidences finding suggest that fennel and its bioactive anethole may have a potent inhibitory effect in reduced risk, progression and treatment of PD through suppression of pro-inflammatory molecules. However, ingestion of supplement should be taken with to avoid overdose in precipitated acute liver toxicity.

The Best Studied Proof Foods in Induced Weight Loss and Weight Control

Kyle J. Norton

Today, the prevalence of extremely overweight and obese children caused by unhealthy diet and life style change over 2 decades of economic prosperity, in the South East Asian population has raised concerns of scientific community,

Overweight and obesity have reached epidemic proportions in many countries, affecting even younger age populations inducing economic burden in health care system for treatment of obesity-related disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases(1).

One of six Malaysian are either extreme overweight or obese, according to Datin Paduka Santha Kumari, chairman of the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Diabetes Association and according to global health observatory, at least 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being overweight or obese, and an estimated 35.8 million (2.3%) of global DALYs are caused by overweight or obesity, worldwide(2).

Epidemiological studies, linking herbal medicine, foods and vitamins in preventing and treating these diseases have been inconclusive(a)/

Some researchers suggested that intake of certain herbal medicine may enhance appetite suppression.

According to the Georgetown University Medical Center, average daily food intake was decreased in some the herbal formulation, in comparison of the effectiveness among herbal formulation and a commonly available(3).

Other researchers insisted that using herbs and supplements to induce weight loss should be taken with care, as a considerable number of reports have been published on hepatotoxicity associated with herbal products attributed with weight-reducing properties(4)(5)(6)(7).

The College of Medicine, The Ohio State University insisted that various dietary, lifestyle, and psychologic factors are involved in the etiology of Prameha(including clinical conditions involved in obesity, prediabetes, diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndrome), particularly in relation to disturbances of fat and carbohydrate metabolism(8), therefore, without effective management, obtaining a workable weight loss plan may be extremely difficult.

1. Oats
Oat is a species of cereal grain grown for its seed cultivated all over the world, especially in Scotland and England. Normally, oat is planted in the poor soil after crops are harvested in the Fall(30).

Oat, rich in beta-glucan, may hold a magic power in regulated metabolism and hepatoprotective effect.

According to Chung-Shan Medical University, consumption of oat reduced obesity, abdominal fat, and improved lipid profiles and liver functions with no adverse effects(31).

Whole-grain ready-to-eat oat cereal, in a randomized study of 144 free-living, overweight and obese adults (N=204, body mass index 25 to 45) with baseline LDL cholesterol levels 130 to 200 mg/dL, exerted significantly favorable effects on fasting lipid levels and waist circumference(32).

Other study suggested that at-derived beta-glucan, combined with moderate exercise also improved lipid profile and factlitated a decrease in weight(33).

2. Salmon
Salmon is the common name for Salmonidae,  born in fresh water, migrated to the ocean, then travelling thousands of miles in the deep sea cold water throughout their life cycle and within five years returning to the exacted location where they were born to reproduce and die(34).

Dietary salmon oil, in rat study showed to reduce weight loss of CXB-E and -H tested mice, but induced with weight gain in recombinant inbred strains.

This findings may suggest that body weight response to salmonoil feeding is controlled by multiple genes(35).

A novel oral form of salmoncalcitonin (sCT), according to the study at Nordic Bioscience, hold a profound and positive effect in improved fasting and postprandial glycemic control and insulin sensitivity and may be considered as a promising agent for treatment of obesity-related insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes patients(36)(37).

3. Brown rice
Brown rice or unpolished rice is a kind of whole, natural grain with very brown color with only the outermost layer of the rice kernel are removed, thus preventing the lost of nutrients(38).

The study of the weigh effect of brown rice on metabolic parameters in type 2 diabetes, showed a positive effect brown rice(LB) of consumption in decreased waist circumference in tested subjects(39).

In a randomized study of forty women between 20 and 35 years of age to compare white rice and mixed rice in weight control, including brown rice, indicated that meal replacement with mixed rice was superior in replaced white rice in weight control and improved antioxidant enzyme activity(40).

4. Chicken
Chicken are domesticated fowl belongings to the subspecies of Gallus domesticus, raised all over the world for its delicious meats and eggs with tons of nutrients(41).

In the comparison of weight loss and total lipid profile changes in overweight women consuming beef or chicken, researchers at Rippe Lifestyle Institute, Shrewsbury showed that weight loss and improved lipid profile can be accomplished through diet and exercise, regardless to dietary protein source including lean beef or chicken(42).

But the study at University of Navarra, showed an opposite result of weight loss and improved lipid profile in participants with frequent consumption of selenium-enriched chicken meat(43). The efficacy in reduced weight loss was probably associated to the presence of antioxidant selenium in the meat.

5. Water
According to Virginia Tech, consuming 500 ml water prior to each main meal may lead to greater weight loss than a hypocaloric diet alone in middle-aged and older adults, because water intake expressed an acutely reduced meal energy intake(EI)(44). However, these result did not apply to younger subjects(45).

The Choose Healthy Options Consciously Everyday (CHOICE) randomized clinical trial, suggested that replacing caloric beverages with water or diet beverages induced 2% to 2.5% weight loss(46).

6. Nuts
Dietary consumption of nuts with rich sources of multiple nutrients is associated with health benefits and weight loss, epidemiologically.

Pistachio nuts, a member of the cashew family, can be consumed as a portion-controlled snack for individuals restricting calories to lose weight without concern that pistachios will cause weight gain (48).

But in well-controlled nut-feeding trials, no changes in body weight were observed(47).

7. Green tea
Green tea containing more amount of antioxidants than any drinks or food with the same volume is the leaves of Camellia sinensis, undergone minimal oxidation during processing, originated from China.

Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Because of their health benefits, they have been cultivated for commercial purposes all over the world.

According to Maastricht University, caffeine intake and green tea supplementation are associated to improve weight maintenance, partly through thermogenesis and fat oxidation, in a randomized placebo-controlled double blind parallel trial in 76 overweight and moderately obese subjects(49).

Catechins, the antioxidants found abundantly in green tea, significantly decreased body weight and  maintained body weight after a period of weight loss, depending to the moderators of habitual caffeine intake and ethnicity(50).

Contrast to the above studies, in a high-protein diet, green tea-caffeine mixture, failed to exert the same effect on body weight maintenance(51).

8. Coffee
Coffee made from the roasted seeds of the genus Coffee, belongings to the family Rubiaceae native to southern Arabia.

In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, linear dose, crossover study, green coffee extract, consistent with human and animal studies and a meta-analysis exhibited an effective nutraceutical in reduced weight in pre obese adults(52).

Mannooligosaccharides (MOS), extracted from coffee, expressed a potential functional use for weight management and improvement in adipose tissue distribution, but varying in gender(53)

Unfortunately, green coffee extract (GCE), according to University of Exeter, in reviews of the effect against weight loss of existed data, showed a significant poor methodological quality and suggested that more rigorous trials are needed to assess the usefulness of GCE as a weight losstool(54).

Other study reported a case of Brazil Potent slimming coffee and some weight-loss products may be contaminated with sibutramine(55).

Taken together. we can conclude that certain foods may hold magic functions in reduced and managed weight loss for obese individual but weight loss can not be in the expenses of intake of nutrients(30a).

Herbal Therapy: Green Tea in Ameliorated Symptoms, Progression and Treatment of Tendinitis

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced symptoms, progression and treatment of tendinitis, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Tendinitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of a tendon as a result of overuse, infection or rheumatic disease.

According to the study of the effect of GT and/or glycine in the diet on tendinitis on Wistar rats, randomly divided into seven groups (G): control group (C); G1 and G4, tendinitis; G2 and G5, tendinitis supplied with GT; and G3 and G6, tendinitis supplied with GT and a glycine diet for 7 or 21 days, respectively, group with  tendinitis treated with green tea demonstrated a significant effect in enhanced collagen stablility through expression of hydroxyproline in compared to other groups.

Furthermore, GT and glycine alone treated groups showed an increased activity of metalloproteinase-2 MMP-2 levels which has been associated to the healing process of the fibrous connective tissue in tendinitis patients.

In compared to control and non GT treatment groups, application of green tea or GT+ gyycine group displayed a statistical significance in the decreased muscle retardation.

After taking into account of other co founders, Dr. Vieira CP, the lead author said, " GT + a glycine diet has beneficial effects that aid in the recovery process of the tendon after tendinitis".

Interestingly, in the study investigated the remodeling effects of green tea and glycine in the myotendinous junction (MTJ) of male Wistar rats with tendinitis, randomly divided into five groups: animals without tendinitis and animals with tendinitis; animals with tendinitis supplied with green tea; animals with tendinitis supplied with a glycine diet; animals with tendinitis supplied with a green tea and glycine diet, researcher found that all treatment groups exerted a profound effect in regulated the activity of metalloproteinases (MMP)-2 with function in remodeling the tendon after tendinitis, MMP-8 and -9 which are associated to remodeling tissue expression in the disease progression  and induced the synthesis of type I collagen regulation by cell spreading, platelet-derived growth factor and interactions with collagen fibers.

Moreover, rats groups treated above application also demonstrated an increase of glycosaminoglycans, in stimulated the regenerative processes, while maintaining host cell characteristics and function and non-collagenous proteins in modulated the development of fine fibrils presented in collagen fibers of connective tissue

Additionally, the combination of green tea and glycine also modulated the inflammatory process through stimulated production of anti inflammatory factors and induced the synthesis of the elements, such as extra cellular matrix involved in the post-lesion recovery of the tissue.

These results indicated an important recovery from injured tendon through improving the compaction of the collagen molecules and inducing assembly of early collagen fibers, in green tea and glycin treated groups.

After considering of all cofounders, researchers and colleagues at the Anat Rec said, " each region of the inflamed tendon can exhibit different responses during the treatment and therefore, modify its extracellular matrix components to facilitate recovery and repair".

The information findings suggested that green tea may be considered as a function food for reduced symptoms, progression and used with glycin and conentional standard medicine for treatment of
tendinitis. However, intake of supplement for treatment of  tendinitis should be taken with exceptional care in prevented toxicity.
