People who turn to alternative medicine for treatment of any disease in avoidance of adverse side effects induced by conventional medicine should be patient.
If you expect that herbal medicine will ease the symptoms of your illness immediately, you will be disappointed. Herbal medicine  can only ease symptoms gradually, depending to stage of the treatment which directly address to the cause of disease.

Oral administration of whole food Aloe Vera showed to improve male reproductive parameters.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to enormous health benefits. Aloe vera has also been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, anhe d elevated of cholesterol, etc.

Whole-body X-ray irradiation-induced testicular alterations in mice is associated to Male Reproductive dysfunction.
Pretreatment of Aloe vera extract promoted sperm count/motility and testosterone levels significantly through reduced elevation in the levels of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, and improved oxidant enzymes, according to the joint study lead by the Panjab University.

Dr. Bala S, the lead author said, "Irradiated animals pre-treated with A. vera extract revealed an improvement in antioxidant status, inhibition of lipid peroxides, apoptotic cell formation and enhanced testicular parameters when compared to the X-ray-exposed group".

In a total of participants of 49(36 women, 13 men; 31 ± 10.3 years of age) recruited from the faculty, staff, students, and community members from a chiropractic college to participate in a 21-day weight loss program, pre treatment of cleanse supplementation included Aloe Vera induced weight loss and improved total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and increased in testosterone for men.

Furthermore, oral administration of graded doses (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg) of ethanol extract of Aloe. barbadensis root in rat study, significantly increased mounting and intromission frequency, testosterone and cholesterol concentrations with the best aphrodisiac effects showed in lowest dose of 100 mg/kg.

The study also addressed, the ethanol extract may be used to treat hypotestosteronemia because of its ability to increase testosterone without inducing adverse effect of toxicity.

Taking together, Aloe Vera may have a potential effect in exhibited male reproductive parameters, but more precised understanding of the biological activities is necessary.

Whole food(herbal medicine) used as medical treatment,  linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has induced much interests in today renowned scientists.
But many researchers have raised question of herbal quality, because geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. may effect their's potency. I do believe, these questions can only be answered by experience herbalists.

Celery may be used as analgesic agent in treating chronic musculoskeletal pain.
Recent study suggested that celery used conjunction with other herbs, such as Urtica dioica (stinging nettle), Boswellia serrata, Equisetum arvense, and Apium graveolens expressed the pain relief which impacts the motion and mobility at each location with pain. in patient of persistent musculoskeletal pain for at least 4 months.

Dr. Hedaya R. the author in the study said, " (the five herbs and vitamin B1)(showed a) clinically significant reduction in perceived pain and improvement in functional mobility.... for the intervention group as related to their chronic joint, back, and muscle pain".

Celery is a species of Apium graveolens, belonging to the family Apiaceae, cultivated all around the globe as a vegetable. Celery can grow to 1/2 m tall with stalks (leaf on the top) arranging in a conical shape joined at a common base.

Celery Seed Extract (CSE), in comparison to conventional medicine, aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen in suppressing pain in arthritis exerted more efficient result in ameliorated existing inflammation and exhibited analgesic effect in test animals.

The study also suggested that in analgesic effects, the extract does affect the p450 enzyme systems
in metabolism as well as altering the metabolism of drugs which the individual may be taking.

In Ulcers induced by indomethacin, cytodestructive agents (80% ethanol, 0.2 M NaOH and 25% NaCl) and cold restraint stress, celery extract expressed its antioxidant property in protection of the decrease levels of gastric wall mucus(GWM) and suppressed the basal gastric secretion with no toxic symptoms.

Taking together,  there is no doubt that celery processed an analgesic effect in reduced pain causes by induction of proinflammatory cytokins through its antioxidant activities. In take of herbal product, instead of whole food celery should be taken with care.

Intake of cruciferous vegetables regularly may improve immune function in lowering the toxic effects of environmental pollutants such as dioxin.
Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), a protein best known for its role in mediating toxicity, showed to reduce toxin effect through exhibited intestinal immune function, according to the The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Cruciferous vegetables are the group of vegetables belonging to the family Brassicaceae, including cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, broccoli etc.

Phenethyl isothiocyanate, a chemical found in Cruciferous Vegetables, in normal BALB/c mice study, promoted immune responses in inhibition of murine leukemia WEHI-3 cells, through stimulating the immunomodulations.

Other phytochemicals, indole-3-carbinol and sulforaphane (SFN), found in the vegetables also addressed the immunodulatory effects against suppression of growth of murine WEHI-3 leukemia cells through immune promotion of increased the level of T cells and decreased the level of macrophages, a mobile white blood cell in responsible for detecting, engulfing and destroying pathogens and apoptotic cells.

In enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, sulforaphane (SFN), inhibited T cell proliferation and the production of inflammatory cytokins in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by enhancing the antiarthritic and immune regulatory effects.

Truly, Cruciferous Vegetable has no doubt processed  immunodulatory effects through the presence of  its phytochemicals in promotion of immune function.

The use of plants for healing purposes has been predated long before the existence of  modern medicine. Today, herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in discovery of single ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Aloe Vera or Aloe Vera supplement may be used to delay skin aging degeneration in induced expression of wrinkle.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It is very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits, used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of disease, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

Wrinkle is a skin degenerative condition caused by the loss of dermis and subcutaneous fat layer underneath the skin, leading to a slight line or fold on the skin, particular in the face.

According to the Food Ingredients & Technology Institute, daily oral intake of plant sterols of Aloe vera gel (Aloe sterol) significantly increases the skin barrier function, moisture, and elasticity in photoprotected skin of that may reduce risk of skin wrinkle.

In a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, in 48 apparently healthy men (age range: 30-59 years; average: 45 years), intake of oral Aloe sterol supplementation after 12 weeks showed a significant improvement of the skin elasticity index in comparison in the baseline value.

Dr. Tanaka M, the lead author said, "Aloe sterol ingestion increased skin elasticity in the photodamaged skin of men aged <46 years, and "No Aloe sterol intake-dependent harmful phenomenon was observed during the intake period".

Furthermore, in vitro, Aloe sterols increased production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, natural substance in skin response to connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. approximately two-fold and 1.5-fold, and promoted gene expression levels  in human dermal fibroblasts.

In fact, daily oral Aloe sterol-containing Aloe vera gel powder (AVGP) significantly reduced facial wrinkles in women aged ≥40 years as well as stimulated collagen and hyaluronic acid production by human dermal fibroblasts.

In support of the above evaluation, intake of Aloe Vera gel enhanced healthy skin through promoting elasticity (R2), net elasticity (R5), and biological elasticity (R7) scores and skin fatigue area F3,the Food Ingredients and Technology Institute 12 weeks study suggested.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that oral administration of  Aloe Vera or Aloe Vera supplements may improve skin condition caused by skin aging degeneration, but quality of amount intake should only be prescribed by related field specialist.

Regular intake of Asparagus may have a reduced risk of progression and development of oral cancer, the renowned institution study suggested.

Treatment of oral cancer in conventional medicine involved immune suppression through the need of antibiotics may contribute to complications of patients with oral cancer, such as infection prompt many patients to research for alternative treatment with little or no side effects.

According to University of Florida, supplement, such as asparagus  use currently in cancer prevention rather than treatment.of oral cancer probably due to mechanism of action for bioactive compounds, such as epigallocatechin, epicatechin-3-gallate,....

Dr. the lead author said, " Preclinical and clinical evidence for the use of green tea, raspberry, asparagus, and cannabis extracts is discussed in this review. Diet changes, supplementation with antioxidants, high-dose vitamin C therapy, and cannabinoid use have been suggested to decrease cancer cell replication and increase chance of remission"

Asparagus is a flowering plant belong to species the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, and northwest Germany, northern Africa and western Asia, used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavour and diuretic properties.

Oral cancer is any malignant cell growth in the tissue located in the oral cavity, including the tissue of the lips or the tongue, cheek lining, floor of the mouth, gums (gingiva) and the roof of the mouth (palate).

In the study of blood sample of 40 oral cancer patients undergoing treatment in the radiotherapy unit of Regional Cancer Institute, Asparagus racemosus Willd. exerted a strong effect against infection caused byStaphylococcus aureus (23.2%), Escherichia coli (15.62%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (12.5%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (9.37%), Klebsiella pneumonia (7.81%), Proteus mirabilis (3.6%), Proteus vulgaris (4.2%) and the fungal pathogens Candida albicans (14.6%), Aspergillus fumigatus (9.37%).

Researchers at the institute also suggested, oral cancer patients were neutropenic with abnormally low level of neutrophils and and prone to secondary micro infection.. Asparagus may be used as antimicrobial agent to check the secondary infections in cancer patients.

Taking altogether, asparagus has shown to exert a significant anti progression, complications and treatment of oral cancer, but further multi centers and large sample size studies are necessary to validate this claim.

Many researchers have raised a question of their's effectiveness as quality of the herbs may be affected by geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. I do believe that these questions can only be answered by experience herbalist.

Cayenne, the chili spice have been used in traditional medicne for treatment of Gastrointestinal disorder.  According to recent study, cayenne exerted various beneficial effects on the gastrointestinal system by variety of mechanisms such as influence of gastric emptying, stimulation of gastrointestinal defense and absorption, stimulation of salivary, intestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic secretions.

Cayenne is also known as Cayenne Pepper, a red, hot chili pepper, belonging to Capsicum annuum, the family Solanaceae, native to sub-tropical and tropical regions, used in traditional medicine to increases metabolism, enhance circulatory system and stomach and the intestinal tract, adjust blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, treat frostbite, muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, low back pain, strains, sprains, bruises and neuralgia, etc.

According to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, in evaluation of eight healthy volunteers, intake of cayenne showed to slower the rate of gastric emptying and faster the whole gut transit after the meal  compared with the other meal.

In fact, adding chilli in the meal is associated with a faster whole gut transit time, affecting the intestinal transit or gastric emptying.

In an 18 well nourished healthy human adult volunteers study, Dr. Kochhar KP, the lead researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, said, " The t1/2 of the spicy meal, 40.09 +/- (p < 0.05) thus implying a faster transit through the stomach" and " In 17 out of the 18 subjects, t1/2 of the spicy meal was consistently lower than that of spice free meal".

Intake of Cayenne regularly no doubt have improved the gastrointestinal function through increased metabolism. use of chili supplement should be taken with care to prevent toxicity

Alfalfa is a flowering plant in the genus Medicago, belonging to the family Fabaceae, The plants have been cultivated all over the world as hay for cattle feeding, and used in traditional medicine over thousands of year to treat high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, enhance digestive system, bleeding disorder, kidney and urinary tract infection, etc. North Americal aboriginal has used Alfalfa seed as food, such as making bread and mush.

Immunomodulatory effect is function of immune system involved many reactions, including antimicrobial organism against infection and inflammation, modulated genes expression.......This modulation may also induced by neurohormonal system.

Alfalfa may be a potential herbal medicine used for enhanced immune system for fighting against forming of free radicals and invasion of foreign substance through its immunomodulatory effects.

Polysavone, a natural extract from alfalfa, induced the proliferation of T and B white blood cells, lymphocytes and improved antibody against viral invasion significantly in comparison to the control group, according to the animal study.

Dr. Xiaofang Dong at the Qiqihar University said, " Polysavone may decrease abdominal fat deposition and enhance immunity without an adverse effect on the performance of broiler chickens"

In a total of A total of 360 1-d-old male commercial Arbor Acre broiler chickens, dietary polysavone (Alfalfa extract) in comparison to chlortetracycline supplementation, polysavone group showed a excellent scavenging activity in inhibited free radical expression, particular for 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide anion radicals, through it The imunomodulatory effects in improved immune function in compared chlortetracycline supplementation group.

Furthermore, alfalfa flavonoids extract (AFE) also promoted immune function in regulating the population of microbe, enhancing antioxidant properties by increasing antioxidase activity and affecting immunity by changing the proportion of white blood cell and Innate immunity.

Taking altogether, alfalfa may be effective in promoted immune system fighting against forming of free radical and microbial infection, but human trials are necessary to confirm this validation.
