Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to the
northern North America, Asia and Europe. The herb has been used in
traditional medicine as diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems,
including bladder infections, kidney infection, kidney stone, pelvic
pain, etc.
The immune system is the
set of cells and their activity against antigens or infectious agents
that comprises of the body's defense system against diseases. The
immune system does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing
infections. Beside foods and nutritional supplements, herbs also play a
important role in helping the immune system defend against viruses and
bacteria attacks.
The Ingredients
It contains arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some
essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides and
flavonoids.
The benefits
Arbutine from Arctostaphylos uva ursi has been found to be effective as
non-antibiotic drugs in treating diseases induced by bacteria, caused by
S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa and C. albicans. Also in the study of
Extracts of Canadian first nations medicinal plants, including
Arctostaphylos uva ursi (kinnikinnick or bearberry),
inhibited the growth of all Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng) isolates with
minimum inhibitory concentrations of 32 μg/mL, 4 to 32 μg/mL, 16 to
>32 μg/mL, and 32 to 64 μg/mL, respectively. Other study on novel
acylated caprylic alcohol glycosides (1, 2) produced by Arctostaphylos
pumila, showed the exhibited antibacterial activity against
Gram-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with an MIC of
128 microg/mL and 64 microg/mL, respectively.
The Side effect
1. Overdoses may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, including cause
nausea, vomiting, etc. and fever, chills, severe back pain, ringing in
the ears, etc.
2. The herb may interact with other medicine, including diuretic
3. Do not use the herb in new born, children or if you are pregnant or
breast feeding without approval from the related field specialist.

to the family Asteraceae, antive to Europe and Asia. It has been used
in herbal medicine for centuries to treat strains, sprains, and
bruises.
Wound healing is process of repairing after damage of skin, tissues, organs, etc.
The ingredients
Beside containing contain helenalin as it main ingredient used as anti-inflammatory agent in herbal medicine, it also contains 11,13- dihydrohelenaline, chamissonolid, Sesquiterpene lactone, lignans of the furofuran, dibenzylbutyrolactone, dibenzylbutyrolactol types, pinoresinol, epipinoresinol, phillygenin, matairesinol, nortrachelogenin, and nortracheloside, six dibenzylbutyrolactol derivative.
The Benefits
Homeopathic remedy (0712-2) from Arnica montana exerted wound closure potential in NIH 3T3 fibroblasts with low potency at a dilution of 1:100/in vitro with wound closure by 59.5%, but its homeopathic arnica preparation (D4), is found to be superior than diclofenac to reduce wound irritation. Topical Hypericum perforatum L. and Arnica montana L. In other study was found to be effective on experimental wound healing on skin surgical incision induced on the back of Wistar rats.
C. Side effects
1. Arnica can increase leg pain in a short term
2. Allergy
Arnica used as Cosmetics and herbal remedies with Compositae plant extracts may cause allergic effect in Compositae-allergic patients.
3. Atopic dermatitis
Patient with atopic dermatitis should use Arnica with care as the herb may increase the risk of a risk factor for Compositae allergy.
4. Toxicity
Arnica is toxic as it contains measurable amount of helenalin.

Herbal Andrographis and Oral Cancer
Andrographis paniculata
is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus
Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and
Sri Lanka. It has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in
treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious
diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia, swollen lymph nodes,
leprosy, bronchitis, sore throats, tuberculosis, chicken pox, etc.
Oral cancer is any malignant cell growth in the tissue located in the oral cavity, including the tissue of the lips or the tongue, cheek lining, floor of the mouth, gums (gingiva) and the roof of the mouth (palate).
The Ingredients
Beside the main ingredient andrographolides, giving the plant a bitter taste, other ingredients includediterpene lactones, such as: neoandrographolide, andrographiside, 14-doexy-11, 12-didehydro andrographolide, etc., flavonoinds viz., oroxylin, wogonin, andrographidines A, B, C, D, E, F.
The benefits
The NF-κB family, sequestered in the cytoplasm by a family of inhibitors, is essential for promoting cell proliferation and preventing cell apoptosis. Andrographolide (Andro) isolated from an herbal plant, Andrographis paniculata reduced phosphorylation of p65 (Ser536) and IκBα (Ser32/36) for inhibiting aberrant NF-κB activation, suppressed c-Myc and cyclin D1 expression and attenuated neoplastic cell proliferation, promoted cancerous cell apoptosis, and mitigated tumor-induced angiogenesis and may be considered as potential component to treats chemically induced oral squamous cell carcinogenesis. Other researchers consider Andrographolide, is a promising strategy for the development of a novel class of anti-inflammatory and anticancer drugs as its bioactive molecules have exhibited anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities in both in vitro and in vivo.
The Side effects
1. Antifertility
Dry leaf powder of A. paniculata increases the risk accumulating of glycogen and cholesterol in the testis, and increased activities of lactate dehydrogenase in testis and alkaline phosphatase in testis and ventral prostate, thus reducing the risk of fertility.
2. People with gallbladder disease may want to consult with their doctor before using because of the herb stimulating gallbladder contraction effect.

Food Therapy - Strawberries and Heart diseases
Strawberry is a
genius of Fragaria × ananassa belongs to the family Roseaceae. They
have been grown all over the world with suitable climate for commercial
profits and for health benefits.
Beside cancer, heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans everyday. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease. There are many causes of heart diseases. Most of heart diseases are caused by high blood pressure contributes to hardening of the arteries. High levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) build up in the arteries as a result of uncontrolled diet with high levels of saturated fat and trans fat. All these add to the formation of atherosclerosis lesions and eventually arterial blockage or anything that serves to damage the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart.
The Side effects
1. Some people may beexperience anaphylactoid reaction to the consumption of strawberries

Dietary Minerals - Potassium and hypertension
Dietary Minerals are the group of minerals essential for our body to sustain normal functions and physical health.
In General, potassium is an essential mineral for our body to build proteins and muscle, break down carbohydrates, maintain normal body growth and normal heart electricity, etc.
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. High blood pressure means raising pressure in your heart. If it stays high over time it can damage the body in many ways.
The effects
Administration of high potassium diets is found to be effective in lowering of blood pressure in some animal models of hypertension. Researchers suggested that the effect may be the result of diuretic action in reducing the extracellular fluid volume, thus decreased blood pressure. Others insisted that the lowering blood pressure of high potassium diet may influence the potassium modifies central or the peripheral neural mechanisms in regulating blood pressure. In fact, increase fruit and vegetable intake such as banana, papaya, mango, spinach, tomatoes, etc., may help increase dietary potassium and reduce hypertension-related disease.
Side effects
Overdose of potassium, also known as hyperkalemia may cause symptoms of hypotension, stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, irritability, fatigue, etc., and in some cases, it can be life-threatening due to electrolyte abnormality.

Butterbur, found
in wet, marshy, damp land, including wetland, riverside, forest, etc.,
is a creeping underground plant, genus Petasites of 15 -20 species,
belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Northern Hemisphere. It
has been used in herbal medicne used as an pain reliever in digestive
system, including stomach, bile ducts, and duodenum, etc.
Seasonal allergic rhinitis is a condition of inflammation of the nasal passages as a result of seasonal allergic effects.
The Ingredients
The chemical constituents of Butterbur include Petioles, petasitene and pethybrene, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-6''-O-acetylglucoside, and rutin, caffeic acid, alkaloids, S-petasin and iso-S-petasin, etc.
The benefits
Conventional, complementary, and alternative options for seasonal allergies study showed several dietary supplements, such as butterbur and vitamin C, have some preliminary evidence of that may be beneficiary to patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis. Although butterbur has hold some promise, complementary and alternative therapies have not been integrated into the general treatment armamentarium of allergic rhinitis. Also in the study of Herbal medicines for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, butterbur extract for allergic rhinitis (AR) is superior to placebo or similarly effective compared with nonsedative antihistamines for intermittent AR, researchers insist confirmation in larger and more rigorously designed clinical trials is warranted with a large sample size.
Side effects
1. Butterbur may be liver-toxic to liver and cause cancer due to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids(a)
2. If you are pregnant please do not use Butterbur with out the permission of the related special field specialist
3. Allergic effect to certain people who are allergic to ragweed, marigold, daisy, etc.
4. Overdoses may cause indigestion, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

enzyme (ACE) activity using fruit extracts, in general, Strawberry
cultivars with combined inhibitory potential against alpha-glucosidase
and ACE and with moderate or low alpha-amylase inhibitory potential
could be targeted for potential management of hyperglycemia-linked type 2
diabetes and related complication of hypertension.
Other in the study of the same above showed high alpha-glucosidase
inhibitory activity in whole food but. However, very low in all
cultivars thus low anti-hypertensive potential.
