*Is Hair Loss A Problem? Try These Natural Remedies, Scientists Say

Decreased hormonal secretions due to aging stimulates the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase to converse testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT, leading to hair growth back thinner or not growth back at all.

 DHT shrinks the follicles, causing hair thins.

Commonly, hair receded at the forehead, crown and temple for men and thins over the entire scalp for women.

Herbal treatment for hair loss has existed throughout human history, but epidemiological studies, linking herbs effectiveness in treating hair loss have produced inconsistent results.

Androgenetic alopecia is a common hair loss in men and women.

In men, it causes baldness patterns, receding at the forehead.

In women, the hair becomes thinner all over the head, and the hairline does not recede.


1. Thujae occidentalis
Thujae occidentalis is an evergreen coniferous tree, belonging to the cypress family, native to the United States and the southeast of Canada. the herb has been used in folk medicine in treating warts, ringworm and thrush.

In HEK 293 cell line derived from human embryonic kidney cells grown in tissue culture, with expressing human 5alpha-reductase (type 2), researchers found that thujae occidentalis semen (TOS) extract in comparison with gamma-linolenic acid and finasteride (a synthetic drug used to be for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia), topically applied to fuzzy rat and androchronogenetic alopecia (AGA) mouse, shows effectiveness in treating male pattern baldness by dictating androgen conversion with higher inhibition activity of 5alpha-reductase type 2 than that of gamma-linolenic acid, but lower than that of finasteride.

These result indicated that the extract may be a potent agent for treating male baldness(1).


2. Cuscuta reflexa Roxb(Dodder)
Cuscuta reflexa Roxb is a Perennial tree, belongings to the family Cuscutaceae, native to the Eastern Asia.

Petroleum ether extract of C. reflexa, in the experiment used as a topical application, showed the inhibition of 5alpha-reductase activity, hair growth-promoting activity, by blocking conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone which causes hair receded(2).

3. Citrullus colocynthis Schrad
Citrullus colocynthis is a desert viny plant native to the Mediterranean Basin and Asia.

The herb has been used in folk medicine for treatments of cancer, carcinoma, endothelioma, leukemia, corns, tumors, etc.

In androgen-induced alopecia mice, application of  the petroleum ether extract of C. colocynthis showed an effectiveness in enhancing follicular density, exhibited hair growth-promoting activity in anagenic phase in compared to standard finasteride(3).


4. Eclipta alba(false daisy)
Eclipta alba is a species of E. prostrata , belongings to the family Asteraceae, native to India, China, Thailand, and Brazil.

 The herb has been used in folk medicine for treatments of com­bat­ing swelling, inflam­ma­tion, skin con­di­tions, etc..

Petroleum ether and ethanol extract of E. alba Hassk in comparison with minoxidil 2% in rat study, exhibited hair growth pattern better than the positive control minoxidil 2% with significantly reduced time for complete hair growth.(4)

5. Garlic
Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia.

The herb or food has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotic, etc.,

Experiment of garlic gel in promoting hair growth suggested that garlic gel shows a positive response in enhancing the application of topical betamethasone valerate(5).

6. Onion
The onion is a plants in the genus Allium, belongings to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic.

 It is often called the “king of vegetables” because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world’s cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

Topical crude onion juice in the study against hair loss, exhibited re-growth of terminal coarse hairs after two weeks of application, in significantly higher among males compared to females, after 4 weeks(6).

7. Polygonum multiflorum
He Shou wu is also known as Chinese Knotweed, genus Fallopia, belongings to Polygonaceae, native to central and southern China.

The herbal medicne has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in treating hyperlipemia, neurasthenia, split personality, premature white hair, nerve injuries, skin wind rash, constipation, etc..

 Ethanol extract from Polygonum multiflorumroots in the experiment using dermal papilla cells (DPCs), showed to increase the proliferation of DPCs which plays an impotant role in enhancing hair growth and hair-fiber length significantly(7).

 In topically applied to the shaved dorsal skin of telogenic C57BL6/N mice, the extract stimulated hair growth by inducing anagen phase and the number and the size of hair follicles(8).

8. Platycladus
Thuja orientalis is a evergreen coniferous tree belongings to the family Cupressaceae, native to northwestern China.

The herbs has been used in traditional medicine in treating baldness and hair loss in East Asia.

T. orientalis extract, in the experiment of topically applied to the shaved dorsal skin of telogenic C57BL/6 N mice, induced an earlier anagen phase and prolonged the mature anagen phase, reduced earlier induction of β-catenin and Shh proteins in hair follicles.

These result indicated that Thuja orientalis may be beneficiary as a potential hair growth-promoting agent.(9).

9. Asiasari radix(Chinese wild ginger root)
Asiasari radix has been used in Asian traditionally medicine for treating hair loss in to stimulate hair growth.

In female C57BL/6 and C3H mice, topical application of Asiasari radix extract showed an effectiveness in promoting hair growth and increased protein synthesis in vibrissae follicle cultures and the proliferation of both HaCaT and human DP cells in vitro.(10)

10. Sophora flavescens
Sophora flavescens is a species of genus Sophora, belongings to family Fabaceae.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine for treatments of viral hepatitis, enteritis, cancer, viral myocarditis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage etc.

In the experiment of topical application of Sophora flavescens extract in C57BL/6 mice, researchers found that injection of the extract enhances on hair growth may be mediated through the regulation of growth factors in dermal papilla cells and inhibited the type II 5alpha-reductase activity(11).

11. Crinum asiaticum
Crinum asiaticum is a genus of Crimum, belongings to the family Amaryllidaceae, native to Jeju Island, Korea.

The herb has been used in herbal medicine for treatments of injury and inflamed joints, swellings, swollen joints, lumbago, pains and in cases of headache, fever, etc.

Topical application of the EtOH extract of C. asiaticum onto the back of C57BL/6, increased the proliferation of immortalized vibrissa dermal papilla cells, cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in the bulb region and the hair-fiber lengths of vibrissa(12).

Norgalanthamine, a chemical constituent of Crinum asiaticum, also induced anagen progression of the hair shaft and increased the proliferation of immortalized vibrissa dermal papilla cells(16)

12. Ishige sinicola
Ishige sinicola is a genus of brown algae (class Phaeophyceae), belongings to the family Ishigeaceae native to native to Jeju Island, Korea.

Topical application of I. sinicola extract onto the back of C57BL/6 mice inhibited anagen progression of the hair shaft and activity of the activity of 5α-reductase and increased cell proliferation vibrissa dermal papilla cells (DPCs), downregulated p27kip1 in stopping or slowing down the cell division cycle(13).

13. Acenthopanax koreanum
Acanthopanax koreanum Nakai (Araliaceae), a well-known herbal medicine in Jeju Island, Korea, has been used as a tonic agent in treating stress-related states(14).

In the experiment of immortalized rat vibrissa dermal papilla cells treated with extract of A. koreanum leaves, showed an enhancement of the proliferation of dermal papilla cells, of the hair-fiber lengths of the vibrissa follicles by increasing the nuclear β-catenin level, and up-regulation of cyclin D1, cyclin E (regulating cell cycle progression) and CDK2(Cells decide at the end of mitosis to either start the next cell cycle and downregulation of the expression of p27(kip1)(Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor) in the dermal papilla cells(15).

14. Schisandra nigra
Schisandra nigra, a plant native to Jeju Island, South Korea has been used in traditional medicine for liver protection and treatments of nervous, respiratory system.

Topical application of the EtOH extract of S. nigra onto the back of C57BL/6 mice nigra, exhibited the increased hair-fiber lengths of the vibrissa follicles, induced anagen progression of the hair shaft and increased both the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in the bulb matrix region and the proliferation of immortalized vibrissa dermal papilla cells(17).

The enhancement of herbal medicine for treatments of hair loss, linking to inhibit anagen progression of the hair shaft and activity of 5α-reductase, increase proliferation vibrissa dermal papilla cells with little or no side effects has produced some promising results.

Some days, they may be considered as approval prominent treatments, in improving appearance and quality of life by reducing the psychological stress with affordable cost.

The prevalence of breast cancer has been acknowledged in the scientific community worldwide.

Breast cancer widespread in women in Southeast Asian as a result of over 2 decades of economic prosperity caused by unhealthy diet is a major concern.

The findings for effective treatments are ongoing with some successes, but to discover an effective prevention and treatment with little or no side effects has proven difficultly.

According to statistic, the risk of getting invasive breast cancer during life time of a women is 1/8.

Healthy diet with plenty vegetables and fruits(1)(2)(3) with change of life style(4)(5)(6) may be the only choice for women in reducing risk of the diseases.


1. Blueberry
Blueberry is a flower plant, belongings to the family Eriaceae, native to Northern America.

Triple-negative breast cancer TNBC, a cancer does not express the genes for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor(PR), and HER2(gene) affecting approximately 15% of all caner cases.

 Female MDA-MB-231 tumor-bearing mice fed with high fat diet with 5% whole blueberry powder (BB), inhibited TNBC and TNBC-related metastasis by reducing inflammation via specific cytokine-driven pathways through immune response in reduced tumor growth and metastasis(40).

In 17β-estradiol-mediated mammary tumorigenesis, 5% blueberry diet, decreased tumor volume and multiplicity significantly, by down regulation of CYP 1A1(enzymes, able to activate compounds with carcinogenic properties) and ER-α (a receptor activated by the sex hormone estrogen)genes expression and also favorable modulation of microRNA (mir-18a and mir-34c) levels in gene regulation(41).

Other chemical constituents such as anthocyanin and anthocyanin-pyruvic acid adduct extract of blueberry restricted cancer cell proliferation by acting as cell anti invasive factors and chemoinhibitors(42).

2. Avocado
Avocados, the green-skinned, pear-shaped fruit that ripens after harvesting  are a commercially valuable fruit cultivated in tropical climates throughout the world,  native to the Caribbean, Mexico, South America and Central America, belongings to the flowering plant family Lauraceous.

Avocado-produced toxin persin may contain a positive anti breast cancer effect(43).

Persin exerted an significant anti breast cancer effect in both estrogen receptor (ER) and ER-negative breast cancer cells(45).

Application of  persin in animal model, selectively induced  G2-M cell cycle arrest and cell death through caspase-dependent pathway(44).


3. Strawberry
Strawberries is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa belongings to the family Roseaceae, grown all over the world with suitable climate for commercial profits and for health benefits.

Methanolic extract of strawberry (MESB) fruits induced cytotoxicity in cancer cells, irrespective of origin, in a concentration- and time-dependent manner, in the testing against leukaemia (CEM) and breast cancer (T47D) cell lines through induction of intrinsic pathway of apoptosis by activating p73 (a tumor suppressor) in breast cancer cells, when tumor suppressor gene p53 was mutated(46).

 Polyphenols, a major chemical component found in strawberry, exhibited cytotoxic with doses of approximately 50 microg/ml, inducing 50% reduction in cell survival in both the normal and the tumor lines, including (MCF-7) breast cancer cell lines(47).

In other study, freeze-dried fruits of two strawberry cultivars ethanol extract, strongly inhibited CaSki and SiHa cervical cancer cell lines and MCF-7 and T47-D breast cancer cell lines(48).

4. Pomegranate
Pomegranate is a fruit-bearing small tree, genus Punica, belongings to family Lythraceae, native to Iran, cultivated in Asian since ancient time.

Pomegranate extracts and genistein exerted anti cancer effect in inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in human breast cancer cells(MCF-7) in doses and time depending manner(49) by downregulated HR genes (a ubiquitous cellular pathway that mediates transfer of genetic information) and increased expression of microRNAs (miRNAs), miR-183 (predicted target RAD50) and miR-24 (regulation of gene expression)(50).

Pomegranate fruit extracts (PFEs), in dose-dependent inhibited NF-kB-dependent reporter gene responses associated with proliferation, invasion, and motility in aggressive breast cancer phenotypes while decreasing RhoC and RhoA protein expression as these genes are associated with tumor cell invasion and metastasis(51).

6. Grapes
Resveratrol, a polyphenolic compound known as a good chemopreventive agent for inhibiting carcinogenesis processes that target the regulators of cell function and DNA replication, found abundantly in grapes, berries and peanuts are associated to reduced risk of breast caner.

HS-1793, a synthetic version of the compound of resveratrol induced G2/M(DNA damage checkpoint) arrest in the cell cycle progression through induction of p53(tumor suppressor gene)-dependent apoptosis in MCF-7 cells(52).

Catechin (RQC), a polyphenol, was effective in ameliorated mammary tumor growth and metastasis, by reduced Akt (multiple cellular process activity, induced the activation of AMPK(cellular energy)), and inhibited mTOR(mediate cellular responses) signaling in breast cancer cells(53).

In Her-2 breast cancer, fox grape seed extract increased the expression of Bax(an apoptosis promoter) and AIF(Apoptosis inducing factor), and decreased total PARP(cellular processes) expression, leading to significant downregulation of Her-2 in MCF-7 cells(54).

7. Pineapple
Pineapple is a species of Ananas Comos, belongings to the family Bromeliaceae and native to southern Brazil and Paraguay, cultivated for commercial uses.

Pineapple rich of vitamins and mineral and digesting enzyme bromelin seems to help digestion after a high protein meal.

 Persin exerted an significant anti breast cancer effect in both estrogen receptor (ER) and ER-negative breast cancer cells(45).

Bromelain, a major chemical constituent exerted  anti-metastasis against breast cancer by up regulating the function of c-Jun N-terminal kinase in cell proliferation, differentiation, survival and migration and p38 kinase to cause programmed cell death(56).

In GI-101A breast cancer cells, bromelain induced cell death via activation of the apoptosis mechanism, in increased dose-dependent by promoting apoptosis and cytokine processing of caspase-9 and caspase-3 coinciding with elevation of serum CK18 levels(56).

In the brMDA-MB-231 mammary carcinoma, oral administration of bromelain increased the reduced bMAK- and MAK-cell activity in cell cycle regulation from 7.8% to 54% (bMAK-cell activity) and from 16% to 47% (MAK-cell activity by stimulating the deficient monocytic cellular cytotoxicity of mammary tumor(57).

8. Apple
Apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, a species of the rose family Rosaceae, originated in Central Asia.

In estrogen-dependent MCF-7 and estrogen-independent MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines, apple phytochemical extracts significantly inhibited cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner and cell cycle modulation(58).

In breast carcinoma Mcf-7 and Mcf-7:Her18 cells, peels of apple were effective in antiproliferation accompanied by a G0-G1 phase arrest in cell cycle through activated tumor suppressor protein that suppressed the regulation of cell invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis(59).

Study of apple extracts and quercetin 3-beta-d-glucoside combination, also showed to possess the synergistic effect in MCF-7 cell proliferation(60).

9. Orange
Orange is a species of Citrus Sinensis, belongings to the family Rutaceae and native to the Southeast Asia.

Polymethoxyflavones (PMFs), a chemical compound found in sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L.) peel,  induced Ca(2+)-mediated apoptosis in human breast cancer cells through proapoptotic activity(61).

D-limonene, another compound in orange peel oil, in rodent studies, also exhibited chemotherapeutic activity against mammary cells, through the induction of tumor cell apoptosis, tumor redifferentiation, and/or suppression of key proteins of cell growth-regulating (62).


Taken Together, vegetables(7)(8) and fruits(9)(10) or their chemical compounds may process a huge effect in reduced risk, progression and treatment of the breast cancer  through induced apoptosis by blocking the energy sources of the pathways, influencing the signal pathways of cell proliferation or suppressing the promoted cancers genes.

According to the University of Calgary study, dried peas fiber may have a profound and positive effect in induced and sustained weight loss in over weight and obese subjects.

Obesity is a medical condition characterized by excess body fat accumulated overtime.

Overweight is a condition of excess body weight relatively to the height. 

According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity.

However, how many people have followed through all those programs? How may people have maintained the weight reduction? The answers are debatable, depending to who you talk to.

Dried pea is a small but nutritionally mighty member of the legume family, genus Pisum belongings to the family Fabaceae with healthy source of proteins, fibers, vitamins and minerals.

In a double blind, placebo controlled, parallel group study, with overweight and obese (BMI = 25-38) adults randomized to either a 15 g/d yellow pea fibre supplemented group or isocaloric placebo group for 12 weeks (n = 30/group), researchers found that peas fiber displays a significant effect in weight reduction through various mechanisms, including improvement of metabolic syndrome and gut microbiota expression.

Metabolic syndrome is associated to weight gain due to its effects in increased odds of low HDL and high triglycerides relative in compared to participants with continuously stable weights(4).

According to the Université de la Méditerranée, gut microbiota expression is correlated to host weight. And microbial changes in the human gut were proposed to be one of the possible causes of obesity(5).

Dr. Jennifer E Lambert, the lead author said, " feeding the prebiotic fibre oligofructose for 12 weeks reduced levels of the orexigenic hormone ghrelin and increased levels of the anorexigenic hormone PYY in overweight adults which corresponded with lower self-reported energy intake [13]. In the long-term, these changes in postprandial peptide secretion may promote weight loss through reductions in ad libitum food intake", and "Both bacterial abundance and composition can be altered with lifestyle changes. Indeed, part of the role of intestinal bacteria in weight control has been elucidated through study of patients receiving bariatric surgery".

Additionally, in the examined the nutritional effects and acceptability of two high-fiber hypocaloric diets differing in sources of fiber: (a) beans or (b) fruits, vegetables, and whole grains of 2 men, 18 women, mean age = 46.9, and mean BMI = 30.6.with participants completed 3-day food diaries in each of the two baseline weeks, researchers indicated that
*. There are no difference in outcome of fiber intake of all groups. Both diets increased fiber intake from 16.6 in compared to baseline.

*. Fiber intake showed a consistent effect in reduced weight status over treatment in both groups with mean weight loss was 1.4 kg.

*. Returned questionnaire also addressed  the hunger decreased and fullness increased during the testing period in both groups.

*. Both diets were rated as potentially acceptable as long as six months.

The findings evidences suggested that bean and fruits, vegetables, and whole grains fiber demonstrated a similar efficacy in increased satiation, and reduced hunger in induced weight loss.

Interestingly, in a total of 173 women and men, with a mean body mass index of approximately 36 kg m(-2) (one-fifth with diabetes type 2) randomised to a high-fibre bean-rich diet with fibre intakes of 35.5 (18.6) g day(-1) for women and 42.5 (30.3) g day(-1) for men, or a low-carbohydrate diet, researchers found that in 123 (71.1%) completers at 16 weeks
*. The mean (SD) weight loss of both groups was 4.1 (4.0) kg.

*, Fiber dietary group expresses a higher weight loss of 5.2 in compared to 4.5 kg in low-carbohydrate group.

3. High-fibre diet shows a better decreased low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol and total cholesterol levels in compared to low-carbohydrate diet.

Dr. Tonstad S, the led author said."After 52 weeks, the low-carbohydrate (n = 24) group tended to retain weight loss better than the high-fibre group (P = 0.06), although total cholesterol remained lower with the bean-rich diet (P = 0.049)."

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that fibers of bean or other sources as functional foods, may have strong implication  in induced weight loos and weight management for over weight and obese subjects.

The amounts of fiber intake should be consulted with your doctors to prevent overdoses constipation.

Candida albicans are members of a large group of micro organism whose cells contain complex structures enclosed within the membranes, including yeast(2)(3), fungi(4)(5)(6), and mold(6) that live among the gut flora in the human mouth and gastrointestinal tract.

According to US statistic, the rate has been falling sharply by 24 % from 2000 t0 2012 in age group of 65 and older. And the average age of people diagnosed with dementia in 2000, are 80.7 in compared to 82,4% in 2012(1).

One in 10 people will be diagnosed of dementia as some point in their lifetime. And 5.7 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer's dementia in 2018. 

Sadly, Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, and the fifth-leading cause of death among those age 65 and older(2).

The diseases also is a leading cause of in reduced quality of life due to disability and poor health.

Unfortunately, the prevalent risk of dementia have escalated substantially in the East due to economic prosperity over last 30 years in increased living standard of population over a billion.

As a large percentage of these population are followers of Western diet as they have made a lots of money in compared to others and the past.

Dementia is the loss of mental ability that is severe enough to interfere with people's every day quality of life.

And, Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia in aging people.

Genetic mutation is a condition of changes of DNA structure and alteration in the inherited nucleic acid sequence of the genotype(169). There are always a concern of some dementia patients with inherited trails for passing them to their children.

According to medical literature, genes mutation, specific genes that cause autosomal dominant dementia in the family may increase substantial risk of early onset dementia.

However, one must also include disease-causing genes mutation as it is the most common age-related dementia.

Certain genes, according to Medline studies are associated to early onset of dementia, including

1. Linkage of Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) to 2q35-q26
Genetic mutation of chromosome 2q35-q36 Lewy bodies (DLB) are multiplex, due to its complex mechanism than generally monogenic disorders. Identifying the first familial DLB gene may contribute to an entry point of DLB pathology, according to Belgian family,researchers(170)

2. VCP gene R155H mutation

4 genes have been identified to affect development of AD. with the amyloid precursor protein (APP ) gene, presenillin gene (PSEN-1), and presenillin gene (PSEN-1)) affect younger people, and apolipoprotein E (APOE ) iaffects older people(172).

4. Chromosome 3 (FTD-3) caused by a truncating mutation in CHMP2B
Presymptomatic CHMP2B mutation was found to associate to significantly decreased cerebral blood flow (CBF) affecting brain capillaries(173) and contributing to the early on set of dementia.

5. Mutations in the NOTCH3
Mutations in the NOTCH3 gene are responsible for hereditary stroke disorder, contributed to an adult onset of hereditary ischemic stroke, vascular dementia and psychiatric disorders(174).

Anti Aging: The Natural Remedy Used Popularly In Skin Care Products Against All Aspects of Aging, Medline Studies Reveal

 Skin aging is a natural process with skin expression of thinner, paler and pigmented spots, including age spots, liver spots.

Some researchers suggested that honey best known for its properties of dressing for wounds and burns, may be also used as cosmetic anti aging substance as it exerts emollient, humectant, soothing, and hair conditioning effects, keeps the skin juvenile and retards wrinkle formation, regulates pH and prevents pathogen infections, through its antioxidant activities(1).

The causes of skin aging can be both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, Dr. Poljšak B and colleagues in the study of skin aging said, " It is well accepted that oxidative stress contributes significantly to extrinsic skin aging, although findings point towards reactive oxygen species (ROS) as one of the major causes of and single most important contributor; not only does ROS production increase with age, but human skin cells' ability to repair DNA damage steadily decreases over the years"(3).

Oxidative stress over expression in the outer skin layer due to environment stress and lifestyle and diet preferences may interfere the normal growth of healthy skin, leading to onset of skin aging.

These results are actually caused by incapability of the body enzymes with function in stimulated production of antioxidants to counter the levels of free radicals and their domino effects, causing alternation of the ratio of antioxidants and reactive oxygen species in the host body in induction of skin aging..

Truly, intrinsic and extrinsic aging causes significant alter the skin structure and components, that subsequently can impair molecular characteristics and biochemical processes, suggested by Dr. Fang JY, the lead author at joint study lead by the Chang Gung University(2).

The herbal medicine has been used for treatment of many kinds of ailments, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated of cholesterol, etc.

Wrinkle is a skin degenerative condition caused by the loss of dermis and subcutaneous fat layer underneath the skin, leading to a slight line or fold on the skin, particular in the face.

According to the Food Ingredients & Technology Institute, daily oral intake of plant sterols of Aloe vera gel (Aloe sterol) significantly increases the skin barrier function, moisture, and elasticity in photoprotected skin, thus reducing risk of  skin wrinkle.

In a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 48 apparently healthy men (age range: 30-59 years; average: 45 years), given oral Aloe sterol supplementation for 12 weeks, at the end of week 12  researchers found that the application shows a significant improvement of the skin elasticity index in comparison to the baseline value.

Dr. Tanaka M, the lead author said, "Aloe sterol ingestion increased skin elasticity in the photodamaged skin of men aged <46 years, and "No Aloe sterol intake-dependent harmful phenomenon was observed during the intake period".

Furthermore, in vitro, Aloe sterols increased production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, natural substance in skin response to connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. approximately two-fold and 1.5-fold, and promoted gene expression levels in human dermal fibroblasts.

In fact, daily application of Aloe sterol-containing Aloe vera gel powder (AVGP) significantly reduced facial wrinkles in women aged ≥40 years as well as stimulating collagen and hyaluronic acid production by human dermal fibroblasts.

Injection of Aloe Vera gel enhanced healthy skin through promoting elasticity (R2), net elasticity (R5), and biological elasticity (R7) scores and skin fatigue area F3, according to the Food Ingredients and Technology Institute 12 weeks study suggested.

Taking altogether, there is no doubt that oral and topical administration of aloe vera or aloe vera supplements may improve skin condition caused by skin degeneration in all aspects, but quality of amount intake should only be prescribed by related field specialist.
