Broccoli Sprout May Cure Airway Inflammatory Diseases, Suggested By MEDLINE studies

Sulforaphane, the main chemical constituent of broccoli sprout may activate anti inflammatory activity in open upper airway for reduced risk of asthma and treatment of asthma complications, some scientists suggested.

The phytochemicals sulforaphane is a compound belongings to isothiocyanate group.

According to epidemiological studies, sulforaphane processed detoxification, anti diabetes, anticancer, anti-aging, neuroprotective properties.

These health benefits have also been proven by studies conducted by numbers of best known institutes and published on online medical literature.

Readers can find some of related studies by searching online with keywords such as sulforaphane and diabetes, sulforaphane and cancers, sulforaphane and heart diseases,.......

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the air way of the lung with recurring symptoms, such as wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.

The disease affects people of all ages, and mostly starts during childhood.

According to the statistic from American academy of allergy asthma and immunology, in 2016, approximately 8.3% of children in the United States had asthma. The prevalent rate of boys was slightly higher in compared to girls at  9.2% and 7.4%, respectively.

Cruciferous vegetables are the group of vegetables belongings to the family Brassicaceae, including cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, broccoli, etc.

Broccoli sprout is a three- to four-day-old young plant of broccoli, belongings to group of cruciferous vegetables and available in health food stores.

In rare case, asthma may induce serious respiratory complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs)  and a collapse of part or all of the lung and respiratory failure.

According to the study from the UCLA team, in a total 65 participated volunteers, 3 days of oral administration of broccoli or preparations of sprout at 100 grams, significant increased antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes  produced by body tissue, in compared with the placebo group.

At a maximum doses of 200 grams, broccoli sprout also induced significant increase of detoxified(GSTP1) and antibody NQO1 enzymes.

Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) is a natural enzyme produced by the body of the host with function in inhibited toxicity caused by cisplatin, a chemo medicine for treatment of cancers.

NAD(P)H dehydrogenase [quinone] 1, an enzyme encoded by the NQO1 gene plays an important role in quinone detoxification. Where Quinone is considered as oxidized derivatives of aromatic compounds.

In support of the above, the study of antioxidant enzymes in the human upper airway found, broccoli sprout demonstrated the potential antioxidant effect to reduce the inflammation of oxidative stress in induction of airway disease, such as asthma.

Oxidative stress is associated to over expression of free radicals in compared to levels of antioxidants produced by the host body tissue.

Some researchers suggested that prolonged period of oxidative stress can lead to chronic inflammation in mediated most chronic diseases including pulmonary diseases, through activation of over expression of pro inflammatory cytokines, including Interleukin (IL)-1 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and a variety of transcription factors, including NF-κB, AP-1, p53,.....

Activation of pro inflammation by immune cells, such as helper T cells (Th) and macrophages in protection our body against infectious organisms in the acute phase of tissue damage or injure, may
increase risk of forming of scar tissue and have a deleterious effect on the host in induction of numbers of syndromes and diseases, including hypotension, intravascular thrombosis, pulmonary edema, hemorrhage.....

Additionally, a randomized controlled trial in healthy young adults, also suggested that chemical compound isothiocyanates found in cruciferous vegetable, including broccoli sprout, exhibits anti inflammatory effects through altered serum concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, C-reactive protein (CRP), and necrosis factor (TNF) α,, that involve in systemic inflammation.

Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is an interleukin that acts as both a pro-inflammatory cytokine and anti inflammatory mytokines.

Altering serum concentrations, may have a profound effect in reduced over expression of pro inflammatory levels produced by interleukin 6 (IL-6) and 8.

Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is produced by a variety of tissue and blood cells.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is produced by the liver, expression of CRP is considered as a blood test maker of increased inflammation in the body.

Further analysis, also showed that intake of cruciferous vegetables(broccoli sprouts) reduces the circulation of proinflammatory cytokins, namely IL-6 through inhibited the expression of abnormal function of gene Glutathione S-Transferase Theta 1(GSTT1) metabolism in lower the levels of glutathione, the antioxidant with anti inflammatory properties.

Dr. Navarro SL, the lead researchers said, " IL-6 concentrations were significantly lower on day 14 of (the double-dose cruciferous) (2xC) and (cruciferous plus apiaceous (carrot family) 1xC+A diets than with the basal diet,...respectively" and " Twenty-four-hour urinary isothiocyanate excretion was not associated with any of the inflammation markers overall; however, IL-6 was inversely associated with total isothiocyanate excretion in GSTM1(The antioxidant enzyme)".

Taking altogether, intake of broccoli sprout daily and regularly is associated to increase circulation of Sulforaphane in regulation of the over expression of pro inflammatory cytokines and increase of detoxified enzymes permanently  in ameliorated airway inflammation in patient with airway inflammatory diseases.

Analyzed Antioxidant Impacts of Color Rices on Oxidative Stress Diseases, Suggested by PubMed Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Color rice may have potential effects in enhanced levels of antioxidants through its antioxidants and  stimulation of the natural antioxidant enzymes found in the host tissue, some scientists suggested.

In compared to white rice with the hull, bran layer and cereal germ removed color rice contains a similar amounts of calories and carbohydrates with only the hull removed.

There fore, replacing the portion of white rice by color rice in your diet, may eventually increase circulation of antioxidants in your body.

The results of the replacement not only reduce the risk of over expression of levels of reactive oxygen species in induction of free radical domino's effects but also protect the body against  imbalance of  free radicals and antioxidants.

Antioxidants are molecules with unique function in inhibited oxidation caused by other molecules.

Oxidative stress is a production as a result of imbalance of ratio of antioxidant produced by the body tissue and free radical expression in the body.

In other words, low levels of natural antioxidants in the body may increase risk of oxidative stress diseases.

Long term over expression of oxidative stress induced damage of body tissues can lead to development of many diseases. Link with a list of such diseases is provided below for your references.

In the study of the extracts from white-, black-, and red-hulled rice prepared by sequential extraction with six different polar solvents to investigate the potential radical-scavenging activities, researchers at the National Agricultural Research Center for Kyushu Okinawa Region found that in compared to other extracts isolated, the acetone extract from red-hulled rice exhibits a high DPPH* and t-BuOO* scavenging activity

DPPH is a common free radical of the organic chemical compound 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl used as a tool to monitor chemical reactions involving radicals.

t-BuOO (tert-Butyl hydroperoxide) is a free radical of organic peroxide widely used in a variety of testing of oxidation.

Further analysis showed that the efficacy of red hulled rice in inhibited the presence of free radicals was attributed to the phytochemical procyanidins, which are members of the class of flavonoids, formed from catechin and epicatechin molecules.

Some researchers suggested that procyanidins show more effects on the ability of free radical scavenging in aqueous phase with the average molecular weight  about 5000.

Additionally, in a range of about 500-18,000 procyanidins also facilitated a free radical reduction through the hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and single electron transfer followed by proton transfer (SET-PT) mechanisms.

In phenolic compounds isolated from pigmented rice (black, red, and green rice) using aqueous mixtures of acetone, ethanol, and methanol to determine the most effective extraction solvent against expression of reactive oxygen species, researchers showed that according to 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay,
* An extract from 40:60 acetone-water mixtures (v/v) provids the highest antioxidant activity in ameliorated presence of levels of free radicals.

*  Antioxidant activities of 40% acetone extracts of pigmented rice bran, measured in the range of 0 to 1500 μg/mL,process the highest total phenolic (259.5 μg/mg) and total flavonoid (187.4 μg/mg) contents in exhibition of antioxidant activity of 83.6%.

In compared to other pigments, red rice bran showed the least efficacy in inhibited free radical butylated hydroxytoluene (144.5 μg/mL) also from the DPPH radical assay.

Dr. Jun H, after taking into account of other con founders, said, "The major phenolic acids of red rice bran were ferulic, vanillic and p-coumaric acids and " black and red rice bran could be better raw materials for manufacturing the food with high antioxidant activity".

These results of investigation indicated that antioxidants contents in hulled rice are incomparable, depending to the color and the red and black hulled rice contain a highest antioxidants expression in compared to other colors.

Interestingly, when the hull is removed from three types of colored rice bran--forbidden rice, red rice and green rice, the antioxidant levels were reduced by ONLY a fraction
* Forbidden rice, and green rice bran yield the antioxidant contents of  90%-100% and 80%-90%, respectively, and
* Red rice bran obtained from red rice yields the antioxidant content of  90%-100%.

The showings suggested that contrary to general belief, the pigment skin of hull rice only represents  a fraction of antioxidants in compared to all contents in the color rice bran.

Taking altogether, non hull colors rice may be considered as functional food to promote antioxidant circulation in attenuated risk of oxidative stress in induction of various forms of disease.

People with higher risk of oxidative stress may want to add a portion of non hull color rice into their daily diet for preventive measure.

How to Protect Your Skin from All Forms of Acne Naturally, US National Library of Medicine Studies Find

Extracts of green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in protection against the development of all forms of acne, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, is a precious drink with numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Acne is a condition of skin diseases characterized by the occurrence of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands in the skin.

Serious types of acne such as nodules and cysts burst and damage nearby skin can lead to forming of scarring.

In the examined the effects of EGCG, the bioactive major polyphenol of green tea on human SEB-1 sebocytes with function in secreted sebum in patients with acne, researchers found that EGCG exerted a significant antioxidant activity in reduced sebum secretion by modulating the AMPK -SREBP-1 signaling pathway through AMPK expression.

SEB-1 sebocytes is a human sebocyte culture model used intensively in studying sebaceous gland activity and regulating and treating acne.

The AMPK are pathways played an essential role in regulation of sebum production and secretion of sebaceous glands.

Application of green tea EGCG also demonstrated a strong effect in reduced sebum in induction of inflammation of sebaceous glands, through suppressing
*  The NF-κB in induced transcription of proinflammatory genes in cellular response to stress and pathogens and

* The AP-1 pathway, a transcription factor with function in regulated gene expression of inflammation factors in response to a variety of stimuli, including bacterial and viral infections.

Furthermore, administration of EGCG also found to facilitate a huge effect in targeting almost all the pathogenic features of acne through exhibited a significant cytotoxicity of SEB-1 sebocytes in induction of viability of cutibacterium (propionibacterium) acnes.

Dr. Yoon JY, the lead author at the Seoul National University Hospital, after taking into account of all findings said, " EGCG significantly improved acne in an 8-week randomized, split-face, clinical trial, and was well tolerated".

Amazingly, the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial conducted from May 2012 through October 2013.of a total of 64 of 80 women, from 25 to 45 years of age with moderate-to-severe acne randomly assigned to receive either 1500 mg of decaffeinated GTE or placebo (cellulose) daily for 4 weeks, there were statistically significant differences in inflammatory lesion counts found on the nose, periodically and on the chin between the two groups but no significant differences of total lesion counts.

Within group, green tea application displayed significant reductions in inflammatory lesions distributed on the forehead and cheek with no difference in total lesion counts.

Moreover, green tea group also significantly reduced total cholesterol levels in compared to cellulose group.

However, due to limitation of the small sample and short time period, researchers postulated that more research is required to determine whether a decaffeinated GTE standardized for EGCG content will provide clinical benefits in women with post-adolescent acne.

Additionally, in selected 59 studies with eight met the inclusion criteria to evaluate the effect of tea polyphenols in reduced sebum production in the skin and for treatment of acne vulgaris by reviewing the literature published on PubMed, researchers suggested that application of tea polyphenols topically may have a beneficial effect in reduced sebum secretion and in treatment of acne through inhibited lipid synthesis by the sebaceous glands.

Truly, according to the University of Miami, in the examine 12 patients with mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris received green tea application twice daily for a period of 6 weeks, topical injection of 2% green tea lotion was found to be effective in treatment with statistically significant in mean total lesion count (TLC) decreased from 24 measured at the baseline to 10 after 6 weeks treatment, a reduction of 58.33%.

The mean severity index (SI) from all patients also decreased from 2.05 before treatment to 1.25 after 6 weeks treatment, a decrease of 39.02%.

Dr. Elsaie ML, the lead scientists said, "Topical 2% green tea lotion is an effective, cost-effective treatment for mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris".

Taking altogether, green tea and its bioactive major polyphenol may be used safely in reduced risk, progression and treatment of all forms of acne pending to a large sample size and multi centers clinical trial.

Oral administration of green tea extact should be taken with exceptional care as some cases of acute liver toxicity were reported literaturally.

How to Mediate Your Sex Hormone to the Body Needed Naturally, Revealed by MEDLINE Studies

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee, a popular and social beverage,  is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

A recent study suggested that coffee may have a direct effect in influence of sex hormone steroid-binding globulin(SSBG) in stimulated production of estrogen and testosterone depending to levels in the host.

Sex hormones are class of hormones, affecting sexual development or reproduction. Steroid-binding globulin(SSBG), is a sex hormone, having a direct effect on androgen and estrogen.

In sex hormones and sexual differentiation, most influential hormone in human sexual desire is testosterone.

Low levels of estrogen in women can also reduce sex drive caused by vaginal dryness that can lead to painful intercourse

Mentally, women with low levels of estrogen also experience unstable mood and sleep patterns that can have a strong impact in sexual desire.

However, sexual motivation is influenced by a set of hormones, including testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, oxytocin, and vasopressin...... Altogether, they control the ability to engage in sexual behaviors.

In a 8-week parallel-arm randomized controlled trial with Healthy adults (n = 42) recruited from the Boston community, including regular coffee consumers, nonsmokers, and overweight, randomized to five 6-ounce cups of caffeinated or decaffeinated instant coffee or water per day, at 4 weeks, researchers surprisingly found that
* Decaffeinated coffee drinking was associated with a borderline significantly increased levels of SHBG in women, but not in men.
*. At week 4, decaffeinated coffee decreased total and free testosterone and caffeinated coffee decreased only total testosterone in women.
*. Contrast to women participants, men consumption of caffeinated coffee displayed a significantly increased total testosterone and decreased total and free estradiol hormones.
*. The study also indicated that caffeinated coffee consumption do not exert any effect on SHBG in either men or women.

These results suggested that intake of coffee may have a strong impact in maintained normal levels of SHBG, thus reducing risk of low levels of SHBG induced higher testosterone levels in overweight women, which can lead to androgenization and development of polycystic ovarian syndrome.

And in men, higher levels of testosterone may also have a significant contribution of healthy libido, building muscle mass, and maintaining energy levels.

Some researchers suggested that increased testosterone level for middle-aged (30 to 50 years old) and older males may also improve the physical energy, strength, stamina, mental aggressiveness which were lost in aging population.

Contrast to above differentiation, in type 2 diabetic patients, coffee and coffee caffeine showed an elevated effect as a mediator of sex hormone-binding globulin in both androgen and estrogen particularly in women in compared  to the healthy young adult.

Dr. Eric L. Ding and colleagues in the study to evaluate "Sex Hormone–Binding Globulin and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes in Women and Men" said, " Among women, higher plasma levels of sex hormone–binding globulin were prospectively associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes and " the predicted odds ratio of type 2 diabetes per standard-deviation increase in the plasma level of sex hormone–binding globulin was 0.28 (95% CI, 0.13 to 0.58) among women and 0.29 (95% CI, 0.15 to 0.58) among men".

The analysis strongly suggested that coffee regardless to types have a negative correlation with risk of diabetes through increasing levels of SHBG.

Additionally, according to the cross-sectional study of 2377 nondiabetic pre- and postmenopausal women from the E3N cohort study in a multivariate adjusted model, intake of more than 3 cup of coffee daily coffee and caffeine ≥265 mg/day were associated with an increased SHBG level distribution (<46.3 nmol/L), in compared to no risk association of decaffeinated coffee subgroup.

In other words, in low levels of SHBG nondiabetic pre- and postmenopausal in compared to healthy women, injection of caffeinated coffee increased levels of sexual hormones estrogen and testosterone

The above analysis was supported by the examination of the study during a median follow-up of 10 years of 359 postmenopausal women with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes matched with 359 control subjects by age, race, duration of follow-up, and time of blood draw, coffee and caffeine were associated to increased levels of fee and total testosterone among postmenopausal women.

In Summary,  the evidences indicated that coffee and caffeine have a extreme effect in exhibition of sex hormone estrogen and testosterone through increased lower level of SHBG in menopause women and prevented onset of type 2 diabetes without affecting the serum in healthy individuals.

Decaffeinated coffee decreased total and free testosterone through significantly increased levels of SHBG in overweight women who are at risk of  diseases associated to over expression of testosterone.

And caffeinated coffee displayed a significantly increased total testosterone and decreased total and free estradiol in men.

Altogether, coffee may be considered as a function food in mediated production of sexual hormone estrogen and  testosterone against diseases and syndromes caused by low levels of SSBG.

*Chaste Tree Berry May Cure Type I and II Diabetes, Revealed by MEDLINE Model Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Chaste tree berry may have a potential in improved pancreatic islet regeneration and hepatic insulin sensitivity for cure of Type I and II diabetes, some scientists suggested.

Diabetes are condition caused by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream in regulation of glucose.

The diseases are either caused by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol. In some cases, diabetes is also caused by allergic reaction of cells in the immune system.

The cause of type 1 diabetes in unknown, however it is the result of immune system mistakenly destroys the insulin-producing (islet, or islets of Langerhans) cells in the pancreas.

The mystery is why the immune system attached the specific insulin producing cells in the pancreas?

Recent study suggested that the immune system does not destroy the entire colony of the insulin producing cells in pancreas but reduced numbers of existence and function in production of insulin.

In other words, according to the the Exeter Clinical Research Facility in study of 74 volunteers. by measurement of how much natural insulin of tested subjects produced, as responded to meals, researchers found that 73 per cent of islet produced very low levels of insulin.

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belongings to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region.

The herbal medicine has been used  for thousands of year as anaphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

In the study to test two water soluble extracts (aqueous and ethanolic) obtained from the leaves of Vitex doniana, researchers at the Ahmadu Bello University, launched  an investigation to test whether these extracts exerting any protection of pancreas against normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

According to the results of experiment, application of extracts of chaste tree berry displayed significant effects in increased volume density of pancreatic islet as well as percentage of β-cells and size of islet in compared to non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet cells.

Treated rats also showed a reduction (P<0.05) in the serum activities of marker enzymes, alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase in diabetes treated rats,

In healthy individuals, the ALT levels in the blood are low but the serum increase substantially in patients with diabetes caused by liver damage in decreased hepatic insulin sensitivity.

High levels of alanine aminotransferase is a marker of decreased hepatic insulin sensitivity and predictor of onset of type 2 diabetes.

In compared to healthy individuals, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), an enzyme, has been found to elevate in diabetes patients.

Furthermore, injection of extract of chaste tree berry also lowered the serum of total bilirubin and unconjugated bilirubin which were found to associate negatively to onset of diabetes.

These results of differentiation indicated that extracts of chaste tree berry exert a liver protective effect of treatment group against diabetics in induction of decreased hepatic insulin sensitivity and normalized the pancreas function in production of insulin through restoring the numbers of scattering islet cells.

Application of the extracts also induced regeneration and repairing of damaged islet cells in the pancreas.

Dr. Oche O, the lead researcher said, "plant extracts, (exhibited) regeneration of β-cells along with β-cells repairs, in compared to non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet cells".

More important, in D-galactose induced pancreatic disorder in aging mouse model, treatment of Vitex agnus-castus (VAC) demonstrated potential pancreatic protective and hypoglycemic effects through improved the size of pancreatic islets decreased in aged and D-galactose groups.

In a total of 72 adult female Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice (weighing 30-35 g) divided into 6 groups of control, VAC hydroalcoholic extract, D-galactose, D-galactose + VAC hydroalcoholic extract, aged, aged + VAC hydroalcoholic extract through subcutaneous injection of D-galactose for 45 days and, VAC hydroalcoholic extract gavaged twice a day in the last 7 days. 24 h after the last drug and extract administrations, group treated with Chaste tree berry extract or combinations of the extract showed increased evels of insulin and decreased serum glucose and D-galactose level in compared to other treatment groups.

The study also found, "Despite the size of pancreatic islets decreased in aged and D-galactose groups, ........... VAC hydroalcoholic extract has hypoglycemic and pancreatic protective effects in natural aged and aging model mice".

In fact, there is also a report indicated that oral administration of once daily to diabetic rats for the period of 30 days of iridoid glucoside isolated from chaste tree berry may be effective as glibenclamide, a known hypoglycemic drug, at concentration of 50 mg/kg b.w.

Promissingly, iridoid glucoside reversed hyperglycemia-induced biochemical changes to near normal levels.

Collectively, Chaste tree berry may be used as functional food for curing Type I and Type II diabetes through its hypoglycemic and pancreatic and hepatic protective effects.

However, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its antidiabetes possibilities.
Intake of chaste tree berry extracts should be taken with extreme care, as overdoses may cause acute liver toxicity.

Green Roasted Coffee in Prevention and Treatment of Obesity Naturally, US National Library of Medicine Human and Model Studies Suggest

By Kyle J. Norton

Coffee, a popular and social beverage, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Green roasted coffee intake may have a profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of obesity, some studies suggested.

In compared to regular roasted coffee, green coffee roasted beans contain substantial higher levels of chlorogenic acid.

The phytochemical is considered as weight loss plantbased supplement due to its effect in significantly lowered body weight, visceral fat mass and plasma leptin and insulin levels, according to the Sunchon National University.
A BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity.

According to the statistic, 68% of American population are either overweight or obese.

How to calculate your BMI index
BMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)

According to the joint study of the health benefits of coffee studies over last 10 years, led by the Huanggang Normal University, injection of green bean coffee daily and regularly expressed a significant improvement of risk and treatment of obesity through its function in decreased lipid accumulation in cells during fat metabolism.

In form of animal and humans studies, green coffee consumption induced changes in transcription factors in fat deposit, decreased body weight and visceral fat

Furthermore, coffee influenced gut microbiota in obese animals and humans studies also expressed the importance of green coffee as a functional and integrated food in reduced risk and treatment of obesity as microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract are found to be altered in obese individuals.

Some researchers suggested that these alternation are associated to long term unhealthy diet in induction of abnormal function of microbiota in regulated energy harvest from food components and energy storage in the host.

Dr. Kyle J. Wolf, the lead authors in the study of Gut Microbiota and Obesity said, “…… by the fact that adult germ-free (GF) (ie, bacteria-free) C57BL/6 mice had a 60% increase in body fat content when they were conventionalized (ie, colonized) with cecal microbiota from a healthy, normal C57BL/6 mouse”.

Other in the study of obesity induced in mice using a HFD for four weeks, fed only HFD or HFD with GCBE at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg suggested that
* Mice treated with green coffee showed a significantly decreased body weight gain, liver weight and white adipose tissue weights and regulated adipose tissue lipolysis hormones, such as adiponectin and leptin.

*. Mice treated with green coffee intake also demonstrated a decreased mRNA expression levels of adipogenesis and adipocyte metabolism related genes in adipose tissues and the liver, and decreased the corresponding protein expression.

*. GCBE treated mice had a lower fat mass with decreased relative body weight and fat mass in compared to HFD alone fed mice.

Increased liver weight was associated to toxic liver and liver dysfunction.

White adipose tissue weights increased are associated to metabolic changes that occur in white adipose tissue (WAT) with obesity.

Obese patients are found to associate to increased alipose tissue lipolysis hormones.

Obesity is associated with adverse alterations in adipose tissue that predispose to adipocyte metabolic dysregulation.

Adipogenesis is the process of cell differentiation of pre-adipocytes to adipocytes. These processes of adipose hypertrophy and hyperplasia are associated with intracellular abnormalities of adipocyte function that leads to clinical manifestations and sequelae of obesity.

According to the information collected, Dr. Choi BK, the led author said, “GCBE has a potential anti-obesity effect with lowering body fat accumulation by regulating adipogenesis and lipid metabolism-related genes and proteins in WAT and liver”.

More importantly, in the study of male ddy mice fed a standard diet containing GCBE and its principal constituents, namely, caffeine and chlorogenic acid, for 14 day, researchers at the Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical Co,, Ltd, indicated that
* . GCBE with 0.5% and 1% reduced visceral fat content and body weight
*. Caffeine and chlorogenic acid showed a tendency to reduce visceral fat and body weight
*. Oral administration of GCBE (100 and 200 mg/kg. day) for 13 days showed a tendency to reduce hepatic TG in mice
*. Chlorogenic acid (60 mg/kg. day) reduced hepatic TG level

The findings displayed a strong effect of coffee and its phytochemicals in promoted weight loss and reduced accumulation by inhibition of fat absorption and activation of fat metabolism in the liver.
Green coffee intake daily and regularly may be considered as a functional and integrated food against risk and treatment of obesity.

How to Protect Your Stomach Against Onset of Ulcer Naturally, US National Library of Medicine Model Studies Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Anise may have a potential and substantial effect in protected your stomach against development of ulcers, some scientists suggested.

Gastric/stomach  ulcers are open sores that develop on the inside lining of your stomach.

People with abnormal ratio of gut microbiota and long term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), are most susceptible to development of stomach ulcers.

In some cases, ulcers can also be caused by infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

Long term untreated gastric ulcer can induce serious complications including bleeding, perforation, and obstruction of emptying of the passage of food.

According to experts, slow, long-term bleeding can lead to anemia and rapid and severe bleeding may result in blood vomiting.

Although is rare, gastric ulcer can also give rise to complications of the lining of the stomach splitting open, leading to infectious causes of peritonitis and sepsis.

Anise is a flowering plant ofthe species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belongings to the family Apiaceae native to to Egypt and the Mediterranean region, used in traditional herbal medicine as fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, ....

Chemical comstituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

In the evaluate the claim of Unani and Arabian traditional medicine practitioners on Anise's gastroprotective potential effect by using 80% ethanol, 0.2 mol/L NaOH, 25% NaCl and indomethacininduced gastric ulceration and secretion in rat model, researchers found that application of doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight of Anise exert a significant protective activity against basal gastric acid secretion, acidity and completely inhibited the rumenal ulceration caused by necrotizing agents.

Furthermore, application of Anise also initiated production of depleted levels of gastric mucosal nonprotein sulfhydryls (NP-SH) and gastric wall mucus concentration.

Decreased expression of gastric mucosal nonprotein sulfhydryls (NP-SH) causes reduced levels of glutathione (GSH), an antioxidative substance with essential function in activated gastric mucosal defense mechanism.

Further analysis suggested that the anti gastric ulcers of Anise suspension was attributed to the herbal medicine antioxidants in enhanced production of hormone prostaglandins in inhibited levels of gastric secretion.

The hormone has been study intensively for protection and treatment of gastric ulcer by some scientists due to its effect in promoted rapid restitution of the superficial epithelium of the gastric mucosa and preservation of the deeper layers through the ability of the hormones in inhibited gastric secretion, stimulated bicarbonate secretion, and increased gastric blood volume.

Dr. Wilson DE, "Orally administered prostaglandin analogues have been helpful in some patients who failed to heal with standard ulcer treatment and in smokers, who usually do not heal as well as nonsmokers".

Some researchers suggested that the prostaglandin analogues may be an ideal solution of patient who are at high risk for gastric lesions due to chronic consumers of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs or alcohol.

Moreover, in the investigation of the effect of essential oil isolated from Croton zehntneri (EOCZ), a plant native to northeastern Brazil and anethole, a major bioactive component in Anise at doses of 30–300 mg/kg, researchers found that the composition demonstrates a strongly and linearly gastroprotective effect against ethanol- and indomethacin-induced gastric damage without changing to cold-restraint stress-induced ulcers in rats.

EOCZ and anethole (both at 30 and 300 mg/kg) significantly increased the mucus production by the gastric mucosa, indicated by measurement of Alcian blue binding assay,

Additionally, the composition also exhibited a significant effect on the volume of gastric juice, pH, or total acidity through its ability in enhanced production of gastric wall mucus.

The above of differentiation were supported by the study in testing the major bioactive compound anethole effect in the ethanol-induced ulcer model in mice conducted by the joint investagation lead by Coordenação do Curso de Farmácia,

According to the results, after taking into account of other con founders, application of anethole (300 mg/kg) increased the level of gastric mucus, while derivatives (300 mg/kg) showed a strong gastroprotective activity without affecting mucus secretion, through anethole antioxidant and anti inflammation activities.

By examining the antioxidant aspects in the experiment mice, researchers surprisingly found that anethole exhibits protective gastric effect through reduced oxidative stress in initiation of change from gastric mucosal nitric oxide (NO) to maintain gastric mucosal integrity.

The phytochemical anethole also ameliorated oxidative stress by stimulating production of the natural antioxidants in the host body, including glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxide (MDA, measured as malondialdehyde) glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase.

Importantly, anethole also modulated the levels of proinflammatory substances, such as plasma tumor necrosis factor-α with function involved in systemic inflammation in the acute phase reaction and interleukin-1β and IL-6 in regulated immune response in protection of the host against bacterial and viral in induction of infection.

Taken together, herbal Anise and its major chemical constituent anethole may be considered as functional food for protection of stomach against onset of ulcer

However, further data collection on larger example size of multi-clinical trials performed with human consumption during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its anti stomach ulcer possibilities.

Finally, intake of Anise supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent acute liver toxicity.
