Whole food(herbal medicine) used as medical treatment,  linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has induced much interests in today renowned scientists.
But many researchers have raised question of herbal quality, because geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. may effect their's potency. I do believe, these questions can only be answered by experience herbalists.

Intake Asparagus regularly may have a positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of ulcer.

Asparagus is a flowering plant belong to species the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, and northwest Germany, northern Africa and western Asia. Asparagus has been used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavour and diuretic properties.

According to the University of Maiduguri, Methanolic extract of Asparagus pubescens root exerted protective against anti ulcer effects through regulating alpha(2)-adrenoceptor stimulation on vascular smooth muscle, in a dose-related manner.

In the study of Asparagus racemosus Willd. (methanolic extract) against indomethacin (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug), induced gastric ulcers, oral administration of Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari) crude extract significantly reduced ulcerindex when compared with control group in doses of 100 mg/kg/day.

Dr. Bhatnagar M, the lead author said, " Crude extract also significantly reduced volume of gastric secretion, free acidity and total acidity..........( probably due to sparagus racemosus exerted) an inhibitory effect on release of gastric hydrochloric acid and protects gastric mucosal damage".

In fact, asparagus anti gastric ulcer efficacy, can be observed  through the significant increase of the total carbohydrate and total carbohydrate/protein ratio as well as reduced the ulcer index, volume of gastric secretion, free acidity, and total acidity.

Some researchers suggested, the anti ulcer activity of asparagus may also be a result of increased antioxidant in ameliorated damage of stomach lining caused by domino's effect of free radical production.

Asparagus may have a strong effect on male sexual behaviors due to the enhancement of anabolic, reproductive, and sexual behavioral activities.

In a Rats study divided into five groups: Group I (control), Groups II-IV (AARR treated, 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight, respectively, orally for 30 d) and Group V (standard control treated with sildenafil citrate, 5 mg/kg body weight), treatment of asparagus adscendens root (AARR) extract
group showed a significant increase of weight, testicular tubular diameter, the number of  sperm counts and sexual behavioral parameters, including penile erections in comparison to other groups.

Dr. Bansode FW, the lead author said, "These results indicate increased anabolic, reproductive, and sexual activities by AARR treatment. Thus, the data provide scientific rationale for its traditional use as an aphrodisiac (in stimulates sexual desire) or for sexual disorders".

Asparagus is a flowering plant belong to species the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, and northwest Germany, northern Africa and western Asia, used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavour and diuretic properties.

In vitro, Lyophilised aqueous extracts of Asparagus racemosus Willd. (AR) exerted a significant effect on the sperm counts, seminal fructose content and penile erection in improving male reproductive function.

Researchers also suggested that There is a directly correlated of erectile function with the penile effect of extracts on induced NO release.

Taking together, Asparagus may be the next potential whole food medicine for treatment of male sexual malfunction, including sexual desire,  erectile dysfunction and infertility, etc., but further studies may be necessary.to confirm this potency.

Many researchers has raised a question of their's effectiveness because of quality of the herbs due to geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. I do believe that these questions can only be answered by experience herbalist.

Cayenne may be the next herbal medicine in reduced risk and treatment of metabolic dysregulation, recent study suggested

Cayenne is also known as Cayenne Pepper, a red, hot chili pepper, belonging to Capsicum annuum, the family Solanaceae, native to sub-tropical and tropical regions. It has been used in traditional medicine to increases metabolism, enhance circulatory system and stomach and the intestinal tract, adjust blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, treat frostbite, muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, low back pain, strains, sprains, bruises and neuralgia, etc.

Metabolic dysregulation refers to abnormal function of the body in regulation of glucose tolerance, fasting glucose, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia,...., leading to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and fatty liver disease.

Capsaicin, the major chemical compound used dietary supplement attenuated metabolic dysregulation in genetically obese diabetic mice through by enhancing expression of modulation of glucose and lipid metabolism involving its receptors.

In obesity-induced inflammation and the development of obesity-related metabolic disorders, cayenne capsaicin suppressed inflammatory responses in inducing glucose intolerance and enhancing fatty acid oxidation in fat tissues, affecting insulin resistance.

The chemical compound involvement in reduced visceral adipose fat, also lowered serum levels of fasting glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, probably through limited fat accumulation in adipose tissues and reduced inflammation and increased insulin sensitivity.

Dr. Leung FW. said," Clinical evidence supports a role of capsaicin as an anti-obesity agent. Both oral and gastrointestinal exposure to capsaicin increase satiety and reduce energy and fat intake and reduction in visceral abdominal fat" and "Thermogenesis and lipid metabolism-related proteins are altered upon capsaicin treatment in white adipose tissue".

Intake of cayenne for weight loss treatment induced reduction in visceral abdominal fat may also improve the metabolic regulation.  Quality of doses should only be given by specialist to prevent toxicity.

"Let foods be your medicine and let medicines be your food", using foods as medication has been a dream of many scholars and scientists over past many centuries. In order to achieve these, consumption of whole food medicine must accompany with moderated exercise, change of diet and life style.
Do you believe that celery may be used to reduce painful primary dysmenorrhea.

Celery is a species of Apium graveolens, belonging to the family Apiaceae, cultivated all around the globe as a vegetable. Celery can grow to 1/2 m tall with stalks (leaf on the top) arranging in a conical shape joined at a common base.

According to recent study by renowned institution, herbal drug group given 500 mg of highly purified saffron, celery seed, and anise (SCA) ameliorated severity and duration of menstrual pain within 2 to 3 months.

In  the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial among 180 female students at Isfahan University dormitory aged 18 to 27 who suffered from primary dysmenorrhea, the combination decode expressed significant reductions in pain scores and pain duration scores in the groups that took SCA (P < . 001), in comparison to group who took mefenamic acid, used to treat mild to moderate pain.

Dr. Nahid K, the researcher said, "The decrease in pain score was reflected by a significant reduction in other drug use among the treatment groups compared with the women in the placebo group" and "The magnitude of the reduction was significantly greater in the SCA group than in the mefenamic acid and placebo groups".

Usr-i-tamth in Unani (Greco-Arabic) decode, included celery, used in traditional medicine in treating pain associated with menstruation.

In the review of the Cochrane database, PubMed/Google Scholar, and other websites for articles on complementary and alternative medicine, the herbal formula exerted analgesic effect in attenuated abnormal temperament, menstrualirregularities/uterine diseases, particular in management of menstrual pain/dysmenorrhoea.

Although some herbal medicine and formula may have a powerful effect in ameliorated painful menstruation, further data collection is necessary to prevent adverse drug reactions among women using herbal medicines for reproductive health.

Whole food(herbal medicine), linking health benefits in prevention, management and treatment of diseases has placed an important role in human history over many centuries. The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Cinnamon may be the Best Whole food Medicine for Prevention, management and Treatment of Cervical Cancer.
According to the Manipal University, Eugenol, a potential chemopreventive agent, one of the a component of cinnamon possesses antiseptic, analgesic, antibacterial, and anticancer properties in expression of apoptosis and inflammation against cervical cancer cell lines.

Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae, use in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level, to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, and to treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

In SiHa cancer cell line, established from cancerous tissues of the cervix uteri, methanol extracts of Gymnema sylvestre (GS) leaves and Cinnamomum zeylanicum (CZ) bark exhibited dose-dependent cytotoxicity, inducing apoptosis.

Other researchers suggested that the effective use of cinnamon against tumor activity, particular in cervical cancer cell line SiHa may be the result in reduced number of colonies, risk of migration potential through down regulated normal physiological processes.

Dr. Kwon HK, the lead researcher at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technolog, insisted, Cinnamomum cassia bark,.. containing several active components such as essential oils, expressed anti-tumor effect via enhanced pro-apoptotic and inhibition of pro inflammatory activities, in vitro and in vivo mouse melanoma model.

In fact, the potential anti-tumor effects of cinnamon may be due to increased anti-tumor activities  in suppression of  progression by increasing the levels of cytolytic molecules and cytotoxic activity.

Although the whole herb medicine may be a potential agent for reduced risk and treatment of cervical cancer, oral use of cinnamon should be taken with care and only prescribed by herbalist.

The finding of whole food medication by renowned scientists all over world to replace the single ingredient of Western medicine with little or no side effect has been difficult due to no commercial benefit and patent right to producers.

Cat's claw found in the tropical jungles of South and Central America, is a genus Uncaria, belonging to the family Rubiaceae, used in traditional medicine over two thousand years as a tonic, contraceptive, anti-inflammatory and infectious agent, and to treat diarrhea, rheumatic disorders, acne, diabetes, cancer and diseases of the urinary tract, etc..

The chemical constituents of Cat's claw include, ajmalicine, akuammigine, campesterol, catechin, carboxyl alkyl esters, chlorogenic acid, cinchonain, corynantheine, corynoxeine, daucosterol, epicatechin, harman, hirsuteine, hirsutine, iso-pteropodine, etc.

Parkinson disease is a type of dementia caused by dysfunction of nerve cells that produce dopamine in the brain, affecting muscle rigidity, tremors, changes in speech and gait.

Uncaria tomentosa may be one of the medical plant used for reduced symptoms and treatment of Parkinson disease.

According to the recent study, AC11 (a standardized aqueous extract of Uncaria tomentosa) exhibited scavenged several types of free radicals, decreased the level of lipid peroxidation and reduced  aggregation of α-synuclein by 40%.

Dr. Cosentino C. the lead researcher at the Instituto de Ciencias Neurologicas, said, "Uncaria tomentosa (UT),,... reversed worsening of motor signs in a patient with Parkinson disease after oral intake"

Further study of Cat's Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) also found that the medical plant enhanced DNA repair and immunity in model systems with capability of generated neuroprotective effects in neurons.

Although therapeutic intervention of Cat's claw my exhibit the properties against Parkinson's disease, use of the medicial plant should be taken with care.

But many researchers have raised question of herbal quality, because geographic differences, time of grown and harvest, etc. may effect their's potency. I do believe, these questions can only be answered by experience herbalists.

Believe or not, celery may be used as repellent against insects.
Recent study suggested that celery in different varieties have exhibited significantly repellent effects whiteflies, particular Bemisia tabaci through their phytocemicals in the class of terpene, such as D-Limonene, β-myrcene, and (E)-β-ocimene.

Depending to types of celery, some showed repellent effects relatively higher in volatilization quantities of β-myrcene than of D-limonene.

Celery is a species of Apium graveolens, belonging to the family Apiaceae, cultivated all around the globe as a vegetable. Celery can grow to 1/2 m tall with stalks (leaf on the top) arranging in a conical shape joined at a common base.

In the study of Aedes aegypti L., one of the primary disease vectors spreading various dreadful diseases, essential oil extracted from the seeds of celery showed remarkably effective repellency of the oil leading to 100% protection till 165 min as compared to control, probably due to presence of flavonoids, lactones, and terpenoids.

Dr. Kumar S, the lead researcher said, " celery seed essential oil can be used as an efficient larvicide and repellent against Ae. aegypt" and ' The identification of the bioactive components, their mode of action, and studying effects on non-target organisms and the environment would help in devising mosquito-management strategies".

Furthermore, according ot the Chiang Mai University, G10, a celery (Apium graveolens)-based topical product exhibited not only a similarity in appearance and physical properties, but also provided comparable repellency to that of the fresh preparation against a broad range of mosquito species belonging to various genera, including Aedes, Anopheles, Armigeres, Culex, and Mansonia, in comparison to the commercial (Insect Block 28) and standard (25% DEET) repellents.

In fact, because the G10 formula is a worthwhile product expressed significantly promising results, including highly effective repellency with no potential skin irritation or other side effects, some researchers suggested that the product may be used as a potential natural alternative for personal protection against mosquitoes.
