Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient for the treatment of chronic diseases, with no side effects, according to studies.
Chronic diseases are a group of medical conditions most commonly associated with aging, including
arthritis, cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and stroke, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy and seizures, and obesity.
The exact causes of chronic diseases are not identified. Aging, unhealthy lifestyle such as excessive alcohol drinking smoking, poor diet, lack of physical activity are the most common risk factors associated with the onset of the disease.
According to the joint study led by Fordham University, chronic diseases are among the most prevalent and costly health conditions in the US, affecting over 133 million US population as many of them suffer from at least one chronic disease and the number is growing at a rapid rate.
Some chronic diseases such as cancer have been found to be the leading causes of hospitalization, long-term disability, reduced quality of life, and death.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, chronic diseases also are the major driver of healthcare costs accounted for nearly 75 percent of aggregate healthcare spending, and increased absenteeism impacts workforce patterns.
Each chronic patient has cost the health care spending $5300 annually.
Believe it or not, chronic diseases in the US, chronic diseases are responsible for 7 out of 10 deaths yearly. In other words, chronic diseases kill more than 1.7 million Americans each year.
Some researchers suggested by changing unhealthy lifestyle patterns, chronic diseases may be preventable.
Dr. Walter C. Willett, the lead scientist in the concern about the risk chronic disease in poor lifestyle individuals wrote, "Several lines of evidence indicate that realistic modifications of diet and lifestyle can prevent most CAD, stroke, diabetes, colon cancer, and smoking-related cancers".
And, "Among U.S. adults, more than 90 percent of type 2 diabetes, 80 percent of CAD, 70 percent of stroke, and 70 percent of colon cancer are potentially preventable by a combination of nonsmoking, avoidance of overweight, moderate physical activity, healthy diet, and moderate alcohol consumption".
Researchers on finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of chronic diseases analyzed 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) several biological activities on cellular and molecular levels against chronic diseases, including cancer.
DIM enhanced the function of the drug-metabolizing enzyme by blocking activity involved in the promotion of cancer expression.
DIM affects multiple signaling pathways and target molecules that controls cell division, apoptosis, or angiogenesis deregulated in cancer cells.
DIM also prevented the development of hormone-dependent cancers.
Injection of DIM also was found to inhibit the onset of cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes reduction through its antioxidant property in reducing oxidative stress caused by overexpression of free radicals.
Dr. Licznerska B, the lead scientist after taking into account other factors wrote in the final report, "the current experimental data on the I3C and DIM activity and the results of clinical studies indicating their role in the prevention of chronic diseases".
Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in the form of a supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Herbal #Arctostaphylos uva-ursi's Water extract (UW-ext) Processes a Strong Antiinflammatory Activity, Researchers Suggest
Kyle J. Norton
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to northern North America, Asia, and Europe. The herb has been used in traditional medicine as a diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems, including bladder infections, kidney infections, kidney stones, pelvic pain, etc. Inflammation is a condition of the Immune system's self-protection to remove harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, and pathogens... from our body.
The Ingredients It contains arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides, and flavonoids.
Water extract (UW-ext) collected from the leaf of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng (Bearberry leaf), is found to exhibit anti-inflammatory effects in ear swelling by picryl chloride-induced contact dermatitis (PC-CD) and carrageenin-induced paw edema. arbutin isolated from the leaves of Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng., when combined with indomethacin on Type IV allergic reaction-induced immuno-inflammation, carrageenin-induced edema, and adjuvant-induced arthritis, found to be effective as arbutin may increase the inhibitory action of indomethacin on PC-CD, SRBC-DTH, carrageenin-induced edema, and adjuvant-induced arthritis, but further investigations are required to understand the mechanism involved. Other studies also indicated that 50% methanolic extract (U-ext), containing arbutin, possesses a therapeutic effect against immuno-inflammation induced by picryl chloride (PC-CD) and also increases the inhibitory effect of prednisolone.

#Healthy #Tomatoes' Lycopene Inhibits Primary Lung Cancer Induced by Tobacco Carcinogen 4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-Butanone (NNK)
Kyle J. Norton
Primary lung cancer is a medical and chronic condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the lung.
The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest, with the function of inspiration that takes oxygen from incoming air to the blood and releases carbon dioxide.
In other words, the lung exchanges carbon dioxide from the blood to oxygen.
Furthermore, the lung also filters out a small blood clot, balancing the Ph levels in the body, protecting the body from infection as well as speech.
According to the statistics, in the US, approximately 228,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019 or 1 in 16 people in the US will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime.
About 60% to 65% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers.
Most cases of lung cancer at the early stage are asymptomatic due to the very small size of the tumor. However, at the later stage, the oversize of the tumor not only reduces the lung function but also presses on the nearby nerve cells and blood vessels, leading to symptoms of lung cancer, accompanied by general symptoms shared by other types of cancer.
The most common symptoms of lung cancer include a persistent cough, cough-up blood with rust-colored sputum (spit or phlegm) due to the oversized tumor that has pressed on nearby blood vessels, chest pain due to the oversize tumor that has pressed on the nerve cells and shortness of breath. Feeling tired or weak.
The other lung, adrenal gland, bones, brain, and liver are most common in primary lung cancer metastasis.
Some researchers suggested lung cancer in the US may be correlated to the rise of obesity.
Dr. Khemayanto Hidayat, the lead scientist said, "Several meta-analyses of observational studies have been performed to examine the association between general obesity, as measured by body mass index (BMI), and lung cancer. These meta-analyses suggest an inverse relationship between high BMI and this cancer. In contrast to general obesity, abdominal obesity appears to play a role in the development of lung cancer".
And, "greater WC was associated with increased lung cancer risk among never smokers (RR 1.11; 95% CI 1.00, 1.23), former smokers (RR 1.12; 95% CI 1.03, 1.22) and current smokers (RR 1.16; 95% CI 1.08, 1.25). The summary RRs for the highest versus lowest categories of WC and WHR were 1.32 (95% CI 1.13, 1.54; I2 = 18.2%, p-heterogeneity = 0.281) and 1.10 (95% CI 1.00, 1.23; I2 = 24.2%, p-heterogeneity = 0.211), respectively".
Tomato is a red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.
In finding a natural compound for the treatment of lung cancer, researchers in the cancer team at Tufts University investigated the effects of tomato's lycopene against tobacco carcinogen 4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) induced lesions in both lungs in an animal model.
The study included elected male ferrets (6 groups, n = 8-10) who were treated either with NNK (50 mg/kg BW, i.p., once a month for four consecutive months) or saline with or without dietary lycopene supplementation (2.2 and 6.6 mg/kg BW/day, respectively) for 26 weeks.
Before the treatment of lycopene, NNK-exposure ferrets showed higher incidences of lung tumors, HCC, and steatohepatitis, and elevations in bilirubin and AST levels.
Lycopene supplementation treatment at two doses prevented NNK-induced lung toxicity and inflammation. The expression of levels of CYP2E1 in the liver associated with the metabolism of xenobiotics in the liver was also inhibited by the injection of lycopene.
In other words, lycopene prevented the NNK in the induction of lung and liver damage in the tested animals.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "The present study provided strong experimental evidence that the tobacco carcinogen NNK can induce both HCC and steatohepatitis in the ferrets and can be a useful model for studying tobacco carcinogen-associated NAFLD and liver cancer".
Furthermore, in a mouse model associated with colon cancer metastatic to the lungs, Dr. Chattopadhyay A, the lead scientist wrote, "adding 0.06% of Tg6F, but not a control tomato concentrate (EV), to standard mouse chow reduced tumor-associated neutrophils by 94 ± 1.1%, and reduced tumor burden by two-thirds".
Taken together, cooked tomatoes processed with abundantly bioactive compound lycopene may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of complications caused by oxidative stress, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Herbal #Bilberry's #Anthocyanoside Protects the Stomach Against HCl/Ethanol-Induced Gastric Ulcer and Chronic Gastric Ulcer, Studies Say
Kyle J. Norton
Gastric, stomach ulcer is an oval sore found on the lining of the stomach.
A gastric ulcer is one of the most common types of peptic ulcer disease which affects both the stomach and small intestines.
According to epidemiological studies, gastric ulcer is caused either by the infection of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) or long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin.
The most common symptoms are a burning sensation or pain in the stomach. Most patients with gastric ulcers have pain that intensifies on an empty stomach, depending on the severity of the condition.
Some patients with gastric ulcers also experience persistent dull pain in the stomach, unintended weight loss, nausea or vomiting, and bloating and acid reflux.
If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of a gastric ulcer.
Conventionally, most cases of gastric ulcer can be treated successfully depending on the cause, including medicine or surgery if the medicine fails.
Out of many risk factors that cause a gastric ulcer, some researchers suggested there is a correlation between obesity and gastritis as well as gastric ulcers.
Dr. Nadia B. Pietrzykowska said, "Excess body weight has been linked to various abdominal ailments. These may include abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea or constipation".
And, "Scientific studies are also increasingly reporting a correlation between obesity and gastritis as well as gastric ulcers. A recent, large study that specifically focused on analyzing gastric and duodenal ulcers confirmed that excess weight predisposed individuals to gastric ulcers when compared to their normal-weight counterparts".
Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.
The plant berry has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, psoriasis, diabetes, etc.
In the testing of the effect of Vaccinium myrtillus L. anthocyanoside (VMA) used as a folk medicine to treat diseases related to gastric ulcers in northern Europe, researchers investigated the protective effects of VMA on gastric mucosal damage in a murine gastric ulcer model.
During the experiment, oral administration of VMA (10, 30, and 100 mg/kg) significantly protected gastric mucosa against HCl/ethanol-induced gastric ulcers.
VMA protects the stomach by inhibiting lipid peroxide levels in a concentration-dependent manner and exhibiting high scavenging activity against the superoxide anion radical (·O(2) (-) ) and the hydroxyl radical (·OH).
The antioxidant activity in VMA was found to be attributed to the presence of anthocyanidins and delphinidin.
Based on the findings, Dr. Ogawa K, the lead scientist said, "These findings indicate that the protective effects of VMA on HCl/ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury may be partially due to the antiperoxidative effects of anthocyanidins".
In order to provide more information about VMA gastric protective effects, researchers examined the antiulcer effects of 3,5,7-trihydroxy-2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1-benzopyrylium chloride (IdB 1027,
an anthocyanidin from Vaccinium myrtillus) in various experimental models.
Orally, IdB 1027 inhibited all parameters associated with the onset of gastric ulcerations including anti-inflammatory drugs, ethanol, reserpine, histamine, and duodenal ulceration induced by mercaptamine.
Furthermore, IdB 1027 also protects the stomach against chronic gastric ulcers induced by acetic acid.
Moreover, IdB 1027 in the rat model did not affect gastric secretion in pylorus-ligated rats and increased gastric mucus in normal animals both in the absence and in the presence of indomethacin treatment.
In other words, IdB 1027 possessed a promising antiulcer activity, probably by potentiating the defensive barriers of the gastrointestinal mucosa.
Taken together, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers, pending to the validation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Unpasteurized Frozen Pineapple Juice with Proteolytically Active Bromelain Enzymes process Anti Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Activity, Researchers Find
Kyle J. Norton
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a digestive condition characterized by an inflammation of the large intestine. The disease affects over 1.6 million Americans today.
The most common types of IBD are
*Crohn’s disease (CD) is an inflammation of any part of the digestive tract. Most cases of CD affect the tail end of the small intestine.
* Ulcerative colitis is an inflammation of the large intestine.
The exact causes of inflammatory bowel disease are unknown. However, some researchers do know that
* The disease may be caused by the weakened immune system that fails to kill off the invasion of infectious micro-organisms in the acute phase of digestive infection caused by tissue injury and damage.
* IBD may be a result of the immune dysfunction mistakenly attacking the digestive tract, a case of autoimmune disease.
* Imbalance of ratio of good and bad bacteria in the colon, caused by long-term intake of certain medicines.
* IBD is also associated with age, family history, ethnicity, parasite, and smoking.
* Genetic mutation of NOD2, ATG16L1and IL23R involved in innate immunity, in autophagy, and in the inflammatory response may also elevate the risk of IBD.
Believe it or not, if you are living in the Western world, you are also at a higher risk of the disease. For example, people who live in Western countries such as the United States and Europe have a higher IBD risk than those in other parts of the world.
Some researchers suggest an individual diet pattern may influence the risk of IBD.
Dr. Donjete Statovci, the lead scientist wrote, "Westernized diet, defined as high dietary intake of saturated fats and sucrose and low intake of fiber, represent a growing health risk contributing to the increased occurrence of metabolic diseases, e.g., diabetes and obesity in countries adopting a westernized lifestyle. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and asthma are chronic mucosal inflammatory conditions of unknown etiology with increasing prevalence worldwide".
And, "Recent reports indicate that the gut microbiota and modifications thereof, due to the consumption of a diet high in saturated fats and low in fibers, can trigger factors regulating the development and/or progression of both conditions".
In other words, by pursuing a healthy diet with a higher in fruits and vegetables and reducing intake of red meat, saturated and trans fat, and processed foods, IBD is preventable.
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.
In an aim to find the potential compound for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, researchers examined the efficacy of bromelain in colitis in an animal study.
According to the tested assays, daily treatment with oral bromelain at the age of 5 weeks showed a significant effect on decreasing the incidence and severity of spontaneous colitis in C57BL/6 IL-10-/- mice.
Furthermore, bromelain also significantly decreased the severity of colonic inflammation by inhibiting the production of the pro-inflammatory cytokine in mice colitis induced by piroxicam exposure.
Moreover, bromelain anti-inflammatory effects were associated with the exertion of proteolytical activity.
In wild-type mice treated orally with up to 1000 mg bromelain/kg/day for 18 weeks, researchers do not observe ant adverse effects such as dermatitis, hair loss, and weight loss due to mucositis.
Based on the findings, researchers wrote, " the results justify additional studies of this complementary biologically based approach to the treatment of IBD".
Also in the animal model, short-term oral treatment with bromelain was found to decrease the severity of colonic inflammation in C57BL/6 Il10(-/-) mice with chronic colitis.
Mice treated with fresh pineapple juice at a level equivalent to 14 mg bromelain purified from the stem decreased histologic colon inflammation scores and a lower incidence of inflammation-associated colonic neoplasia (35% versus 66%; P < 0.02), with fewer neoplastic lesions/colon.
According to the flow cytometric analysis, murine splenocytes exposed to fresh pineapple juice in vitro affect leukocyte trafficking and activation in facilitating the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines associated with immune response.
Dr. Hale LP, the lead scientist after taking into account co and confounders wrote, "Long-term dietary supplementation with fresh or unpasteurized frozen pineapple juice with proteolytically active bromelain enzymes is safe and decreases inflammation severity and the incidence and multiplicity of inflammation-associated colonic neoplasia in this commonly used murine model of inflammatory bowel disease".
Taken together, bromelain may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal #Turmeric and #Ginger Exert Multiple Mechanisms in the Protection of Endocrine Functioning, According to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Scientists may have found a bioactive ingredient that protects the endocrine system integrity with no side effects, according to studies.
The endocrine system is made up of glands that produce and secrete hormones with an aim to regulate the activity of cells or organs.
In other words, the endocrine system produces hormones to regulate the body's growth, metabolism (the physical and chemical processes of the body), and sexual development and function.
Any disruption of the endocrine system can cause abnormal production of hormones, leading to developmental malformations in the infant and children, interference with the function of the reproductive organ, increased cancer risk; and disturbances in the immune and nervous system function.
The most common cause of endocrine dysfunction is exposure to men-make xenochemiclas. Particularly to those new and without testing men make chemicals introduced to the market every year.
There are many ways that endocrine disruptors can interfere with the endocrine system in hormone production such as mimic or partly mimicking naturally occurring hormones in the body like estrogens such as xanophytochemicals that bind to a receptor within a cell and block the endogenous hormone from binding.
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
With an aim to find a natural ingredient that promotes endocrine function, researchers examined the effects of ginger and turmeric on the modulation of hormone production in the body's glands.
According to the differentiation of physiological and therapeutic effects of ginger and turmeric, both exerted a significant activity in some endocrine gland functions and signal pathways by
* Inhibiting the high levels of some hormones such as T4, leptin, or interacting with hormone receptors. In other words, ginger and turmeric normalize the levels of the hormone for the body needs.
* Inhibiting the production of cytokines/adipokine expression associated with inflammation and oxidative stress.
* Inhibiting the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS)-generating enzymes against the oxidative stress-induced hormone imbalance.
* Protecting the cell integrity against DNA alternation by promoting pro-apoptotic and inhibiting proliferative genes.
The results strongly suggested that ginger and curcumin exerted strong protection of endocrine functioning by modulating the hormones produced by the glands.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "These multiple mechanisms of protection against inflammation and oxidative damage make ginger and curcumin particularly promising natural agents in fighting the ravages of aging and degenerative diseases".
Taken altogether, turmeric combined with ginger may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of endocrine dysfunction, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Tomato and Its #Lycopene Protect Your Heart Against Cardiovascular Diseases through Its Effects on Blood LIpids, Blood Pressure, and Endothelial Function
Kyle J. Norton
Cardiovascular disease is a group of conditions involving blood vessels and heart.
In the Western world, most cases of CVD are related to a process called atherosclerosis, a condition associated with plaque build-up on the wall of arteries that reduces the oxygen-rich blood flow to the heart in facilitating the onset of heart disease and stroke, depending on the affected location.
Heart disease is a condition caused by plaque disruption that has induced significant heart muscle damage, leading to heart disease associated with symptoms
* Leg cramps during walking
Leg cramps during walking might be an indication of heart disease caused by arteries in your leg being clogged up by cholesterol in a result of not enough oxygen being delivered to the cells in your leg. If this symptom persists, please consult with your doctor.
* Chest pain
Chest pain is caused by blood vessels in the heart temporarily being blocked up by inadequate oxygen supply to the heart muscle. The persistence of chest pain would be an early indication of heart disease.
* Shortness of breath
Shortness of breath (dyspnea) is the major symptom of left ventricular insufficiency. People with shortness of breath are four times more likely to die from a heart disease-related cause than individuals without any symptoms.
* Headaches
People who see sparkling zigzag lines or loss of vision before a migraine attack may be at particular risk of future cardiovascular problems. Generally, headaches do not cause heart diseases but a sudden, explosive onset of great pain might be.
* Dizziness
Dizziness can have many causes including low blood count, low iron in the bloodstream and other blood disorders, dehydration, and viral illnesses. Since there are many different conditions that can produce these symptoms, anybody experiencing episodes of severe headaches or dizziness ought to be checked by your doctor.
* Palpitations
Palpitations is an extremely common symptom of heart disease. Palpitations are the skips in the heartbeats and irregular heartbeats.
* Loss of consciousness
It is a common symptom, most people pass out at least once in their lives. However, sometimes loss of consciousness indicates a dangerous or even life-threatening condition such as heart disease so when the loss of consciousness occurs it is important to figure out the cause.
Stroke is a condition caused either by reduced blood or rupture of a blood vessel depriving oxygen in the blood that induces the death of neurons.
Symptoms of a stroke attack can be
* Sudden trouble in standing
Sudden trouble in standing is an early symptom of stroke as a result of the circulation of blood that carries oxygen to the brain suddenly deplete caused by narrowing of arteries and high blood pressure.
* Dizziness and loss of balance
The brain coordinates information from the eyes, the inner ear, and the body's senses to maintain balance. If the cells of that part of the brain get damaged as the result of depleted oxygen will cause dizziness and loss of balance.
* Sudden confusion
A sudden onset of confusion means that something is potentially going wrong with the brain. Almost all conditions that affect the brain are life-threatening.
* Having trouble speaking and understanding
Having trouble speaking and understanding occurs when the brain cells in the area of the Broca, Wernicke, and angular gyrus in the left hemisphere area begin to die.
*Sudden severe headaches
Headache is a condition of pain in the head, sometimes neck or upper back pain may also be affected. It ranks amongst the most common local pain complaints and may be frequent for many people but sudden severe headaches may be caused by an early symptom of stroke due to the rupture of a brain vessel or depletion of oxygen in some parts of the brain.
* Sudden trouble seeing
This may be an early indication of stroke when the oxygen in the blood supply to the part of the brain is suddenly interrupted, affecting the cells that control the vision area of the cerebral cortex in the brain.
Tomato is a red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.
In the urgency to discover healthy foods for the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD), researchers examined the effect of consuming tomato products and lycopene on markers of cardiovascular (CV) function.
By searching 3 databases including Medline, Web of Science, and Scopus from inception to August 2016, researchers identified 21 fulfilled inclusion criteria included in the meta-analyses.
All publications showed that the interventions supplementing tomato were associated with significant reductions in LDL-cholesterol, production of proinflammatory cytokine I(L-6), and improvements in flow-mediated dilation (FMD).
Compared to tomato, lycopene supplementation reduced systolic-BP (-5.66 mmHg; p = 0.002) without affecting other outcomes significantly.
Based on the results, Dr. Cheng HM, the lead scientist wrote, "The available evidence on the effects of tomato products and lycopene supplementation on CV risk factors supports the view that increasing the intake of these has positive effects on blood lipids, blood pressure, and endothelial function".
In other words, tomatoes have a potential effect on the inhibition of CVD development.
In other to review more information about tomato and its bioactive compound lycopene anti-CVD activity, researchers examined the clinical trials comparing the efficacy of lycopene supplements with tomato products on intermediate CVD risk factors.
According to the results from the clinical trial, consuming tomato-based foods is a first-line approach to cardiovascular health.
However, compared to the supplement lycopene in blood pressure management, tomato intake provided more favorable results on cardiovascular risk endpoints than did lycopene supplementation.
Taken together, tomatoes processed with a high amount of lycopene may be considered a dietary supplement for the prevention and treatment of CVD, pending to large sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

The brain coordinates information from the eyes, the inner ear, and the body's senses to maintain balance. If the cells of that part of the brain get damaged as the result of depleted oxygen will cause dizziness and loss of balance.
* Sudden confusion
* Sudden trouble seeing
