#TUBES gastro (Bromelin Combined with Other Remedies) Inhibits Symptoms of Functional Dyspepsia, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Functional dyspepsia, also known as indigestion, is a symptom in the stomach associated with difficulty in digesting food.
The most common symptoms of indigestion are pain or discomfort in your upper abdomen (dyspepsia) or burning pain behind the breastbone (heartburn) soon after eating.

Some patients may also experience symptoms of feeling full or bloated with no signs of relief.

In serious cases, patients may also experience symptoms of vomiting blood, dark, tarry stools due to damage to the lining of the stomach, shortness of breath, and unexplained weight loss.

If you have some of the aforementioned symptoms, please check with the doctor immediately

There exact causes of indigestion are multiple. Epidemiologically, female gender, aging, long-term use of pain relievers, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, smoking and people with long-term psychological problems such as anxiety or depression are some most common factors found in patients with functional dyspepsia.

Conventionally, treatment of functional dyspepsia is totally depending on the condition, including antibiotics for H. pylori infection and medication to reduce pain.

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

In finding potential and natural compounds for the treatment of functional dyspepsia, researchers examined a dietary integrator composed of sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, bromelin, and essential oils in patients affected by functional dyspepsia.

The study included a study of a total of 100 patients with functional dyspepsia diagnosed primarily on the basis of typical symptoms and the exclusion of non-functional gastrointestinal diseases.

According to the symptom classification, All patients were assigned to either dysmotility-like dyspepsia (N.=60) or reflux-like dyspepsia (N.=40).

All patients were treated with TUBES Gastro (0.80 g oral tablets bid after main meals) for 4 weeks, on top of their current treatment with proton pump inhibitors or not.

According to the results from the experiment, TUBES Gastro showed a high statistically significant reduction of the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) scores at 14 and 28 days: -1.5 (-26.3%) and -3.4 (-59.6%), respectively compared to the baseline in patients with dysmotility-like dyspepsia.

In patients with reflux-like dyspepsia, TUBES Gastro demonstrated a statistically significant reduction of the NRS score at 14 and 28 days: -2.8 (-41.2%) and -4.8 (70.6%), respectively (P<0.0001).

Furthermore, there were no side effects found during the study duration.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "TUBES Gastro treatment was effective and well-tolerated in reducing the symptomatology of patients affected by functional dysmotility-like and reflux-like dyspepsia".

In order to reveal additional information about TUBES Gastro anti-functional dyspepsia, researchers at the Molinette Hospital conducted a study to examine the preparation efficacy of a total of 53 consecutive patients (22 males, 31 females; mean age, 54+/-2.5 years) with functional dyspepsia and negative for Helicobacter pylori infection.

Patients classified into four subgroups according to predominant symptom: ulcer-like dyspepsia, Motility-like dyspepsia, reflux-like dyspepsia, and nonspecific dyspepsia, were received TUBES gastro (0.80 g oral tablets bid) for a minimum of 3 months (range, 3-11).

According to the results of patients who completed the study, the preparation showed a strong effect on the improvement in the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). score.

Compared to the baseline, the difference in scores between the initial and the final visit was -1.9+/-2.1 cm (range, -6 to +3), or 23.8+/-40.8% (range, -150% to 100%).

Dr. Pellicano R, the lead scientist wrote, "The study results indicate that in the short term TUBES, gastro can significantly improve dyspeptic symptoms in dyspeptic patients negative for H. pylori infection".

Taken together, bromelain used alone or combined with other remedies may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of functional dyspepsia, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Intake #Carotenoids Regularly are Associated with a Reduced Risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Age-related macular degeneration is a condition caused by the deterioration of the small central portion of the retina, known as the macula
Macular degeneration happens mostly in adults over 60 and is one of the major causes of vision loss.

The exact causes of macular degeneration are not identified. As of today, researchers cannot explain why some elderly are susceptible to macular degeneration while others do not.

However, researchers do know that certain risk factors have been found epidemiologically to induce the risk of macular degeneration including aging, the disease has been found most commonly in people over 50, family history and genetics, race, and macular degeneration is more common in Caucasians.

Smoking, obesity, and medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease are also associated with a higher risk of macular degeneration

There are 2 forms of macular degeneration found in the elderly
* The dry form is caused by the presence of yellow deposits, called drusen under the retina, in the macula. However, the elderly with increased was not at a higher risk of macular degeneration.

* The wet form is caused by the growth of abnormal blood vessels from the choroid, the vascular layer of the eye, underneath the retina.

Compared to the loss of vision of 10% of patients induced by the wet form, most patients of macular degeneration have the dry form which has been found to cause loss of some central vision.

Some researchers suggested that macular degeneration may also be caused by an unhealthy diet. Dr. Martha P. Montgomery wrote, "A 97-item Block food frequency questionnaire was used to gather diet information, and overall diet quality was measured using the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) and Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI)".

And, "Participants in the highest quartile of diet quality had significantly reduced odds of AMD according to the AHEI score (0.54, 95% confidence interval 0.30 – 0.99) and non-significantly reduced odds of AMD according to the HEI (0.75, 0.41 – 1.38). Odds of AMD were also 51% lower in the highest quartile of fish intake compared to the lowest quartile (odds ratio = 0.49, 0.26 – 0.90)".

These results strongly suggested the risk of AMD is manyfold higher in people who follow the Western diet compared to those who follow the Oriental diet.
Carotenoids are a class of mainly yellow, orange, or red fat-soluble pigments, including lycopene and carotene, found abundantly in ripe tomatoes, pumpkins, carrots, corn, and daffodils.

In finding a potential ingredient for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), researchers examined the beneficial role of carotenoids in the prevention of AMD.

Epidemiologically, in a case-control study by comparing the risk AMD in subjects with late AMD, exudative AMD, and retinal pigment abnormalities with the presence of drusen, and an equal number of control subjects,

*Administration of lutein and zeaxanthin-induced serum concentrations were not associated with the risk of AMD.

* Consumption of food sources of lutein and zeaxanthin (carotenoids) was associated with reducing the risk of macular degeneration.

* People with higher levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in the blood have a lower risk of AMD.

However, the reduced risk of lutein and zeaxanthin for AMD when levels of the carotenoids are elevated in the serum or diet was not consistent.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "Until scientifically sound knowledge is available we recommend for patients judged to be at risk for AMD to alter their diet to more dark green leafy vegetables, wear UV protective lenses and a hat when outdoors".

Taken together, carotenoids, particularly lutein and zeaxanthin may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of age-related macular degeneration, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of carotenoids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Anthocyanidin Found in #Herbal #Bilberry Inhibits the Growth Factors of Tumors In the Body, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Angiogenesis refers to the formation of new blood vessels from the existing vasculature.
Angiogenesis, on the one hand, plays a critical role in repairing tissue damages including arteriosclerosis, and myocardial infarction. On another hand, the expression of angiogenesis has been found to cause diseases and induce the progression of retinopathies, benign tumors, and cancer.

In other words, abnormal blood vessel growth that is either excessive or insufficient has been linked to many deadly and debilitating conditions.

Under normal conditions, the development of angiogenesis totally depends on the functional demands of the body. For example, exercise stimulates angiogenesis in skeletal muscle and heart and a lack of exercise can lead to capillary regression.

Clearly, these results demonstrated the need for angiogenesis for the body to function better and the formation of new blood vessels occurs throughout human life.

However, from a cancer perspective, new blood vessel growth is important for cancer proliferation and metastatic spread. The survival of tumor cells totally depends on an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients.

Dr. the lead scientist said, "Levels of expression of angiogenic factors reflect the aggressiveness of tumor cells. The discovery of angiogenic inhibitors should help to reduce both morbidity and mortality from carcinomas".

In other words, if we can stop the tumor from stimulating the production of new blood vessels to supply energy for them to grow, we may cure cancer.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant berry has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

With an aim to find potential treatment for diseases associated with angiogenesis, with no side effects, researchers examined the antiangiogenic properties and antioxidant activities (a) of the main anthocyanidins (delphinidin, cyanidin, and malvidin) found as constituents in Vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) anthocyanosides (VMA) and (b) of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC).

Anthocyanidins exerted a significant inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) associated with the growth of new blood vessels in a concentration-dependent manner.

Anthocyanidin at 3 and/or 10 microM is the most effective compared to NAC at 1 microM (the only concentration tested).
Moreover, both anthocyanidin (0.3-10 microM) and NAC (1-1000 microM) concentration-dependently also exerted a significantly scavenged the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical.

The findings suggested that VMA processes an anti-angiogenic activity depending on the main constituent anthocyanidins (delphinidin, cyanidin, and malvidin), presumably via antioxidant effects.

Additionally, in vitro and in vivo, Vaccinium myrtillus (Bilberry) extracts (VME) showed an anti-angiogenic effect on 0.3-30 µg ml(-1)) compared to those of GM6001 (0.1-100 µM; a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor).

In human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), VME inhibited VEGF-A-induced proliferation of HUVECs.

According to the vivo assay, intravitreal administration of VME inhibited the formation of neovascular tufts during oxygen-induced retinopathy in mice.

The results suggested that VME may be effective against retinal diseases involving angiogenesis.

Taken together, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of diseases involved in angiogenesis, pending the validation of a larger sample size and multicenter human study.

#LeafExtracts of #Artichoke Inhibit the Growth of Mesothelioma Xenografted Tumors, According to Researchers

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops from the thin layer of tissue known as the mesothelium.
Most cases of mesothelioma are found on the lining of the lungs and chest wall, compared to other organs. Pleural mesothelioma is a cancer of the pleural lining of the lung.

Exposure to asbestos which has been banned is one of the most common causes of the disease. Some researchers suggested that inhaling asbestos can cause mesothelioma in many ways, including
* Induced chronic low-grade inflammation of mesothelial cells as the immune system can not completely drive out the fibers that cause damage to the lung, leading to the compromise.

* Long-term exposure of the asbestos can suppress the genes associated with limited cell cycle division and tumor suppression

* Long-term exposure is also found to alter the cell DNA, leading to cancer.

According to statistics, 2000 to 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year in the United States. The asbestos risk of pleural mesothelioma is in the range of 2 to 10 percent.

Most cases of malignant mesothelioma are closely associated with past occupational exposure.
However, asbestos is found persistently in our natural and built environments.

Besides most common cancer symptoms, patients with pleural mesothelioma at the advanced stage may also experience symptoms of dry cough or wheezing, shortness of breath (dyspnea), respiratory complications, and pain in the chest or abdomen.

Some patients may also develop pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs), fever or night sweats, fatigue, and muscle weakness

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a liver protective and detoxified agent and for the treatment of digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

In the concern of the malignant pleural mesothelioma, a poorly treated neoplasia by conventional medicine, arising from the pleural mesothelial lining, researchers examined leaf extract of Cynara scolymus in vitro and in vivo.

The study included tMSTO-211H, MPP-89 and NCI-H28 mesothelioma cell lines and untransformed mesothelial cells HMC, treated with increasing concentrations (ranging from 3 to 200 μg/ml) of artichoke leaf extract for 72 hrs.

Injection of the leaf extract not only inhibited strongly the cell proliferation but also affected the migration and tumor engraftment in the mesothelioma cell lines.

More precisely, MSTO-211H cells treated with the artichoke extract showed a change in the cellular morphology both in a short-term assay, compared to more resistant more resistance in the HMC cells.

In MSTO-211H, MPP-89, and NCI-H28 cells, injection of artichoke leaf extract inhibited the formation of cancer cell colonies.

Astonishingly, dietary feeding with Cynara scolymus leaf extract showed a similar inhibition against the growth of mesothelioma xenografted tumors comparable to those of pemetrexed.

Pemetrexed is a chemomedicine used for the treatment of cancer, including mesothelioma.

Dr. Claudio Pulito and colleagues suggested, "Leaf extract of Cynara scolymus holds therapeutic potential for the treatment of mesothelioma".

Taken together, artichoke leaf extract may be considered a functioning remedy for the prevention and treatment of mesothelioma, pending the confirmation of a large sample size and multicenter human study.

#Phytochemical Carotenoids Inhibit Expression of Transcription Factor Associated with the Risk of #LiverCancer, Researchers Suggest

fewer nerves

Liver cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth in the liver tissue due to the alternation of the cell's DNA.
The liver is the largest internal organ located in the upper right portion of the abdomen, beneath your diaphragm and above your stomach.

Since the organ is a soft tissue with less nerve, most liver cancer patients are diagnosed in the later stage of cancer.

liver cancer remains the fifth most common malignancy in men and the eighth in women worldwide.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common form of primary liver cancer.
statistics
According to the statistic, approximately 42,030 adults (29,480 men and 12,550 women) in the United States will be diagnosed with primary liver cancer in 2019 in the US.

Believe it or not, since 1980, the incidence of liver cancer has tripled. Between 2006 and 2015, the number of people diagnosed with the disease increased by approximately 3% annually.

The exact causes of liver cancer are not identified. However, epidemiologically, age, gender, geography, cirrhosis (severe scarring in the liver) and medical conditions such as diabetes and obesity are some of the most common prevalent factors associated with liver cancer developing.

Some researchers suggested the increased liver cancer incidence may be associated with the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades.

Dr. VanSaun MN, the lead scientist wrote, "Chronic changes induced by the prolonged consumption of a high-fat diet alone culminate in the development of primary liver dysplasias".

And, "High-fat diet-induced steatosis, coupled with a splenic injection model of experimental liver metastasis using syngeneic MC38 colon cancer cells, resulted in an increased number of secondary tumor nodules and metastatic burden in steatotic livers. Metastatic nodules were associated with focal peritumoral areas of infiltrating inflammatory cells and associated apoptotic cell populations".

Carotenoids are a class of mainly yellow, orange, or red fat-soluble pigments, including lycopene and carotene, found abundantly in ripe tomatoes, pumpkins, carrots, corn, and daffodils.

In finding a potential ingredient for the treatment of liver cancer researchers examined the carotenoid's effects on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression.

According to the tested results of the delivery of siFOXC1 using novel carotenoid functionalized dendritic nanoparticles (CDN), the CDN not only displayed a markedly reduced toxicity profile but also achieved ∼90% FOXC1 knockdown.

In other words, the established delivery CDN inhibited the expression of transcription factor FOXC1 which has been found to induce hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression.

Including carotenoids, the CDN achieves ∼18% greater delivery efficiency compared to treatments of particles with no carotenoid tagging.

Researchers after taking other factors into account said, "thereby emphasizing the role of carotenoid mediated cell internalization in the efficient delivery of CDN-siFOXC1 complex in liver cancer cells".

More precisely, using the aforementioned delivery system, carotenoids are more effective in the inhibition of liver cancer compared to oral injection.

Taken together, carotenoids may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of liver cancer, pendingthe confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of carotenoids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Phytochemical #Betacyanins Inhibit Enzymes Associated with Anti #Cancer Property, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Cancer is a class of chronic diseases caused by cell growth and multiplies disorderedly and uncontrollably in the body.
Depending on the types and grades of cancer, some cancers can be progressively worse and damageddamage other healthy tissues. Sometimes cancers can spread to other tissues and organs in the body via lymph or blood.

Under normal circumstances, cell growth is a natural process. Every day millions of cells grow to replace millions of dead cells and to keep our body in balance and healthy.

Sometimes, acceleration of cell growth is necessary to prevent further damage to the body organ, such as cut, injure, etc., but after fulfilling their purposes, the growth of cells is back to a normal rate again.

In other words, cell growth or cell division limit to a number of cycles due to our body growth inhibitors, before replacing by the new cells.

In cancer cells, the cycle of cell growth can be indefinite.

Depending on the type of cells that initiates cancer, cancers can be classified into
* Carcinoma
Carcinoma is a malignant tumor found in anywhere of epithelial tissues lining the cavities, surfaces of structures and glands. Although the forming of the malignant tumor in the epithelium is still unknown, it possesses and associates the characteristics of epithelial cells, including those of the breast, prostate, lung, and colon.

* Sarcoma
Sarcoma is a type of cancer that arises from malignantly connective tissue cells that originated from embryonic germ cells or bone, cartilage, and fat tissues and cells.

* Lymphoma and leukemia:
Hematopoietic cells are multipotent stem cells that give rise to all types of blood cell, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets become cancerous.

* Germ cell tumor
Cancer is derived from pluripotent cells. In adults, these are most often found in the testicle and ovary but are more common in babies and young children.

* Blastoma
Cancer is derived from immature "precursor" or embryonic tissue. These are also commonest in children.

According to the statistics provided by the National Cancer Institute, approximately 38.4% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes. In 2017, an estimated 15,270 children and adolescents ages 0 to 19 were diagnosed with cancer, and 1,790 died of the disease.

Betacyanins are phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments, belonging to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.

With an aim to find a potential and natural compound for the treatment of cancer with no side effects, researchers examined the soluble natural food colors betacyanins and anthocyanins isolated from Beta vulgaris.

Based on the results of these natural pigments, alone and in combination, evaluated for their relative potencies using MCF-7 (breast), HCT-116 (colon), AGS (stomach), CNS (central nervous system), and NCI-H460 (lung) tumor cell lines, betacyanins, and anthocyanins showed a significant effect in the inhibition of enzyme COX-2 associated with the promotion of tumor growth and suppression of tumor apoptosis.

Furthermore, the COX-1 associated with the promotion of overexpression of the enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis in tumor onset and progression isalso inhibited by the administration of betacyanins and anthocyanins.

Moreover, betacyanins showed a dose-dependent growth inhibition against breast, colon, stomach, central nervous system, and lung tumor cells.

Interestingly, in the chemical analysis, researchers found that the combination exerted the synergistic effects and chemical interactions at various concentrations against tested cancer cell lines.
Finally, Only the mixture of anthocyanin and betanin negated their efficacy in the cell growth inhibitory assay and did not enhance the COX enzyme inhibitory activity.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "This is the first report of a comparative evaluation and the impact on biological activities of these pigments alone and in combination".

Taken together, betacyanins used alone or combined with other herbal remedies may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of betacyanins in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#CrudeHoney inhibits the Onset of #Dandruff, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Honey may have a potential effect on the prevention and treatment of dandruff, a common skin problem of many adults, some scientists suggested
Dandruff is a condition of the scalp most commonly caused by dry skin resulting from dry air.

However, in many instances, the condition also is associated with seborrheic dermatitis. leading to rough, scaly skin on the scalp.

In other words, patients with oily skin accompanied by seborrheic dermatitis can experience overexpression of yeast that causes the development of large white flakes or yellow scales due to uneven shedding and clumping of dead skin cells.

Belief or not dandruff affects over 50% of the general population.

There are many causes of dandruff. Researchers suggested that dry skin, the use of the wrong kinds of hair products, and skin conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis or eczema are associated with the onset of dandruff.

In some people, an overgrowth of a yeast-like fungus can also cause dandruff.

The increase in age hormone imbalance and prolonged periods of stress are the most common prevalent risk factors associated with the condition.

Most cases of dandruff can be treated with daily shampoo to reduce the oil on the scalp. In severe cases, due to overexpression of fungi, pyrithione zinc shampoos may be recommended.

Honey is a miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The rich golden liquid is considered of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweeteners by many people.

Dandruff, if left untreated can cause itchy and inflamed scalp that lead to temporary hair loss.

In finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of dandruff with no side effects, researchers examine the anti-dandruff effects from honey, a bee-derived, supersaturated solution composed mainly of fructose and glucose, and contains proteins and amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and other minor components.

The application of honey exerted a significant effect in reducing dandruff, through its moisturizing and antimicrobial properties.

The effective doses range between 1 and 10%, but concentrations up to 70% can be reached by mixing with oils, gel, emulsifiers, or polymer entrapment.

With an aim to reaffirm the honey anti-dandruff activity, a researcher at the Dubai Specialised Medical Centre and Medical Research Labs, investigated the potential use of topical application of crude honey in the management of seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff.

The study included 30 patients (20 patients were males and 10 were females, their ages ranged between 15 and 60 years) with chronic seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, face, and front of the chest.

Before applying honey to treat the condition, participants showed conditions of scaling, itching, and hair loss. The lesions were scaling macules, papules, and dry white plaques with crust and fissures.

All patients were asked to apply diluted crude honey (90% honey diluted in warm water) every other day on the lesions with gentle rubbing for 2-3 mins. And, honey was left for 3 hr before gentle rinsing with warm water.

After 4 weeks of treatment, honey showed a significant effect on the prophylactic phase, which lasted for six months.

Furthermore, half of the patients were treated with the topical honey once weekly and the other half served as control.

The treatment group demonstrated a reduction of Itching and disappeared scaling within one week. Skin lesions were healed and disappeared completely within 2 weeks.

Moreover, honey administration also improved hair loss.

None of the patients treated with the honey application once weekly experienced a relapse for six months

Dr. Al-Waili NS, after taking into account co and confounders, said, "Crude honey could markedly improve seborrheic dermatitis and associated hair loss and prevent relapse when applied weekly".

The findings clearly suggested that honey may be considered a replacement of chemical ingredients for the prevention and treatment of dandruff associated with seborrheic dermatitis, with no side effects.
