Yoga therapy may have an important role in regulating central versus peripheral mechanisms in the expression of a chronic headache, the study by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences suggested.
Yoga, the ancient technique for harmonizing external and internal body well beings, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been best known to people in the Western world and some parts of Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes research and supported by health advocates.
According to the study to investigate the role of muscle spasm overactivity in chronic tension-type headache (CTTH) with 15 patients of CTTH and 7 age-matched controls, randomized assigned to either yoga intervention or control, the yoga group demonstrated a significant improvement in reduced overactivity of the temporalis muscle in CTTH patients at rest in compared with control.
Furthermore, after examining the EMG records, researchers found that the yoga group displays a strong improvement in subjective pain scores. and a substantial decrease in the mean electromyography (EMG) amplitude of temporalis muscle during rest and mental activity compared to other applications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and botulinum toxin injections.
EMG amplitude is a medical technique used to evaluate details of the timing and magnitude of muscle activation as well as muscles in powering a variety of types of locomotion.
Truly, yoga breathing and relaxation reduced daily stress by calming the central nervous system by connecting the mind and body, restoring the endocrine system in hormone balancing.
The technique of practice also reduced the production of stress hormone cortisol and brought back the present moment, while letting them go or dealing with them in a profound way.
Furthermore, yoga postures and deep breathing ameliorated the overexpression of nerve neurons in the transmitted information of sensation, stress, and suffering by strengthening the flow of energy, thus enhancing relaxation in response to pain through unraveling the mind-body samskaras.
Moreover, in a study of 50 patients (aged 18-58 years) with a clinical diagnosis of CCTH, divided into 2 groups,
* Group 1 (n=30) patients have received 8 lessons and practical demonstration of Brahmakumaris spiritual-based meditation known as Rajyoga meditation for relaxation therapy, in addition to routine medical treatment (analgesics and muscle relaxants) and
* Group 2 (n=20) patients have received analgesics and muscle relaxants twice a day but no relaxation therapy in the form of meditation by Dr. Kiran, and colleagues, to support the effect of yoga therapy in reduced symptoms and pain in tension types of headache,
After 8 week follow-up period, scientists showed that both therapies show a highly significant reduction in headache variables but the yoga group expressed a highly significant relief of severity, duration & frequency of a headache by 94%, 91%, and 97% compared to group 2 of 36%, 36%, and 49% respectively.
The total headache relief according to the headache index was 99% in yoga group in compared to only 51% in the control group.
These results indicated that yoga intervention may have an acute effect in ameliorated pain in chronic tension headaches.
More promisingly, in the study to provide preliminary data on the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of alignment-based yoga for youths with chronic headaches, researchers at the joint study led by the Medical College of Wisconsin/Children's Hospital of Wisconsin found that yoga therapy may be considered pediatric headaches treatment, indicated by positive parent and participant ratings of the yoga experience.
Indeed, some yoga instructors suggested that the alleviation of stress by yoga exercise in reduced insomnia and swelling and constriction of the blood vessels was a result of yoga in initiated deep sleep and reduced tension of the blood vessels in the face and neck.
Additionally, these results were also associated with yoga exercise effects in enhanced head muscles relaxation and revitalization and improved hypertension in blood circulation, particularly in people with chronic headaches.
The findings suggested that yoga intervention may be used as an integrated form of exercise in providing relief in the severity of a headache, duration & frequency of a chronic headache, particularly in tension types of a headache.

#Greentea's #EGCG Significantly inhibits the Parameters Associated with Reduced #MetabolicSyndrome, Researchers Show
Kyle J. Norton
Green tea may be served as a functional food for reduced risk and treatment of metabolic syndrome, a renowned institute study suggested
Metabolic Syndrome is a group of risk factors used to calculate the incidence of early onset of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine, or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "excessive yin syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory. Adding a slice of ginger will do the trick.
A total of 35 obese participants with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned to receive one of the following for 8 weeks: green tea (4 cups per day), control (4 cups water per day), or green tea extract (2 capsules and 4 cups water per day), blood samples collected from green tea and green tea extract treated groups showed a significantly increased plasma antioxidant capacity (1.5 to 2.3 μmol/L and 1.2 to 2.5 μmol/L, respectively in compared to control group.
The study also found that the efficacy of green tea in ameliorating the early progression of metabolic syndrome is attributed to the improved expression of serum antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase, glutathione, catalase) and plasma antioxidant capacity in inhibited free radicals in an exhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokins.
Furthermore, in the total of 55 obese men and women recruited, injections of 280 and 360 g GTRB provided daily totals of 123.2 and 158.4 mg caffeine, and 188.3 and 242.1 mg of epigallocatechin gallate significantly reduced expression of metabolic syndrome in attenuated weight gain, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose concentrations.
More importantly, the study also found that the administration of green tea also reduced levels of blood pressure in obese subjects but can not maintain the weight loss after the study.
Other researchers in the investigation of decaffeinated green tea extract (GTE) and voluntary running exercise (Ex) alone or in combination against obesity and metabolic syndrome in high fat (HF) fed C57BL/6J mice, insisted that a combination of green tea injection and exercise treatment reduced final body mass (27.1% decrease) and total visceral fat mass (36.6% decrease), levels of fasting blood glucose (17% decrease), plasma insulin (65% decrease), and insulin resistance (65% decrease) compared to HF-fed mice.
Taken together, green tea may be one of the best candidates used for the prevention of onset and treatment of metabolic syndrome in the adult population, but long-term injection of large amounts may induce liver and kidney toxicity as shown in previous articles.

α-Tocopherol Displayes Cell Cycle Arrest and Apoptosis Associated with Anti #OralCancer Activity, Researcjers Suggest
Kyle J. Norton
Mouth/oral cancer is a medical condition associated with irregular cell growth in the tissues of the mouth caused by genetic alteration of the cell DNA.
Most cases of mouth cancer start in the flat, thin cells (squamous cells) of the inner lining tissue that lines the lips and the inside of the mouth.
According to the statistics provided by the American cancer society, in 2018, approximately, over 50,000 people will get oral cavity or oropharyngeal cancer. An estimated 10,000 people will die because of these cancers in the United States.
The exact causes of mouth cancer are unknown. However, the increase in age, gender, exposure to radioactive, long-term use of tobacco use and excessive alcohol drinking, viral infection, and genetic mutation is the most common prevalent risk factors found in people with mouth cancer.
The grades of oral cancer are depending on the tendency of spreading. Low-grade cancers usually grow more slowly and are less likely to spread while high-grade cancer indicates otherwise.
Stages
1. Stage O
Benign tumor
2. Stage I
The cancer is < 2 cm in size (about 1 inch), with no lymph nodes spreading found in the area.
3. Stage II
The cancer is ≥ 2 cm in size, but < 4 cm (less than 2 inches), with no lymph nodes spreading found in the area.4. Stage III
The cancer is ≥ cm in size or any size with only one lymph node on the same side of the neck as of cancer. The cancerous node is ≤ 3 cm (about one inch).
5. Stage IV
Cancer has spread to tissues around the lip and oral cavity with lymph nodes in the area may or may be infected. The cancer of any size has spread to more than one lymph node on the same side of the neck or lymph nodes on one or both sides of the neck, or to any lymph node that measures ≥ 6 cm (over 2 inches) in size or to distant parts of the body.
Tocopherols are phytochemicals of which many have vitamin E activity, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in butter, egg yolk, milk fat, some vegetable, and seed or nut oils, etc.
In finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of chronic diseases associated with inflammation, researchers examined the effects of α-tocopherol on the oral squamous carcinoma cells ORL-48.
According to the experimental results,
* In vitro study, α-tocopherol exhibited effective antitumor activity on ORL-48 at 2.5 ± 0.42 µg/mL.
* Although Cisplatin exhibited stronger activity at 1.0 ± 0.15 µg/mL, compared to α-tocopherol which exhibited cytotoxicity on normal human epidermal keratinocytes at very low concentration (<0.1 µg/mL).
* Despite the lower potency of α-tocopherol, signs of apoptosis such as the shrinkage of cells and appearance of apoptotic bodies were observed much earlier than cisplatin in time-lapse microscopy.
* Both applications increased the number of cell accumulation in the G0/G1 phase with ultrastructural changes of the cellular structures verifying the apoptotic mode of cell death by both agents.
Based on the findings, researchers said, " Both cisplatin and α-tocopherol displayed cell cycle arrest at the Sub G0 phase. α-tocopherol thus showed potential as an antitumor agent for the treatment of oral cancer and merits further research".
Taken altogether, tocopherols may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of oral cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of tocopherols in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Omega-3 Fatty Acids Inhibit the Expression of Proinflammatory Cytokines Associated with the Risk of #ChronicKidneyDiseases, Scientists Find
Kyle J. Norton
Kidneys formed as part of the secretory system, are bean-shaped organs located below the rib cage, one on each side of your spine with a function to filter out blood and remove waste through urinary secretion.
The kidney also plays a critical in maintaining the levels of fluids in the body, by removing extra fluids to make urine.
Furthermore, the kidney also regulates electrolytes, and blood pressure, maintains acid-base balance, produces the hormone calcitriol, renin, and erythropoietin.
Kidney diseases are a class of medical conditions associated with reduced function of the kidney, in cases, complete loss of kidney function such as kidney failure.
Chronic kidney disease, also known as chronic kidney failure, is a condition of a gradual loss of kidney function.
According to the observation of patients' data associated with the diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure are responsible for up to two-thirds of the cases.
According to the statistic, approximately, 30 million American adults have chronic kidney disease, and a large percentage of these people aren't aware of it. 1 in 3 American adults is at risk for kidney disease.
In other words, approximately 14 percent of the US population suffers some form of chronic kidney disease (CKD), including 661,000 cases of kidney failure.
Believe it or not, almost half of the individuals with CKD also have diabetes and/or self-reported cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Diabetes is a medical condition caused by long-term abnormally high blood glucose, leading to the damage of other tissue and organs, including the kidneys.
Another cause of chronic kidney disease is kidney disease. Early diagnosis of chronic kidney disease can often keep chronic kidney disease from getting worse.
Late diagnosis of chronic kidney disease may eventually lead to kidney failure, leading to dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life.
Omega-3 fatty acids are phytochemicals in the class of lipids, found abundantly in deepsea fisk, dark-green leafy vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, etc.
The three main components of Omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
In finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of kidneys, researchers evaluated the effects of the anti-inflammatory effect of omega-3 fatty acids on patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD).
By searching the medical literature on the database from inception to August 2016, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs) derived from multiple databases, and the effect of omega-3 fatty acids supplementation compared to control cohorts, researchers identified a total of 12 RCTs involving 487 patients were included in the meta-analysis.
Among 254 patients receiving omega-3 fatty acids and 233 patients who served as controls who received a placebo, there is
* There is no statistical significance in serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) (SMD, -0.20; 95% CI, -0.44 to 0.05; P = 0.11),
* The levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-6 associated with CKD showed insignificant change in both omega 3 and control groups.
* Additionally, chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the constitution of chronic inflammation through the expression of elevated levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) also showed insignificant changes in both groups.
Based on the findings, researchers suggested, "there is insufficient evidence to conclude the benefit of omega-3 fatty acids oral supplementation in reducing serum levels of CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α in patients with CKD".
In other words, omega-3 fatty acids may not be used for reducing complications of patients with CKD, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of Omega-3 fatty acids in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Tea Pomace #Extracts (TPE) Improves Levels of Blood Glucose Associated with the Risk of #Diabetes, According to Studies
Kyle J. Norton
Green tea with a ton of phytochemicals has been found to process various health benefits reported by large numbers of research and study. However, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "excessive yin syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory. It is recommended to add a slice of ginger to your drink for the purpose of neutralization.
Recently a study by a renowned institute postulated that regular green tea intake may be associated with reduced risk of developed hyperglycemia in a healthy individual and prevented the early onset of diabetes in people with hyperglycemia.
According to the Third Military Medical University, regular consumption of green tea or green tea extract improved insulin sensitivity and glycaemic control in populations with diabetics.
In the review of the literature found in the database of PUBMED, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, ISI Web of Knowledge, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database and Chinese Scientific Journals Fulltext of 17 trials comprising a total of 1133 subjects suggested that green tea consumption significantly reduced the fasting glucose and hemoglobin A1c (Hb A1c) concentrations by -0.09 mmol/L and -0.30%, respectively.
In the trials with high Jadad score studies, green tea significantly reduced fasting insulin concentrations by -1.16 μIU/mL in comparison to the nongreen tea drinker group.
Other, in the mice study to evaluate green tea drink (T2 and T3) prepared by adding catechins and epigallocatechin gallate, major constituents isolated from green tea (EGCG) @ 550 mg/500 mL against non-drinker group acted as control (T1), mice fed with T2 and T3 expressed a significantly reduced cholesterol and LDL levels and serum glucose and insulin levels with no difference in all functional drink groups but control.
Dr. Ahmad RS, the lead author said, "In contrast to lipid profile, an experimental drink containing EGCG reduced the trait better than catechins based functional drink".
Furthermore, the compared diabetic effects of 3 selected tea water extracts (TWE) and tea pomace extracts (TPE) and by on rat intestinal α-glucosidase activity in vitro as well as hypoglycemic effects in vivo, insisted that in male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats fed with tea extracts improved levels of blood glucose level at 30 min after oral intake (0.5 g/kg body wt) compared to the control in sucrose-loaded SD rat, probably through activation of antioxidants properties in free radical scavenging.
No doubtfully, green tea processed bio-actives may be used as potential nutraceutical products to prevent the risk of hyperglycemia in healthy people and early onset of in people with prediabetes.

#Tocopherols and and their #Quinones Induce Cytotoxicity in Cancer Cells Compared to Chemo Drug #Doxorubicin, Researchers Say
Kyle J. Norton
Cytotoxicity is the process of the induction of cell death through toxins. In other words, cell cytotoxicity is the process in which certain chemicals or mediator cells are used to destroy living cells.
In cancers, cytotoxicity can be benefits humans by destroying the cancer cells and preventing them from proliferation.
Most cases of cytotoxicity used by a substance are to determine the potential toxicity of the quality of the substance, including plant extracts or biologically active compounds isolated from plants.
But, before the preparation can be used in humans, bioassays associated with a number of different cell lines in vitro and Vivo have been used to assess the cytotoxicity of many herbal plants, including those of African medicinal plants.
In other words, the aim of the cytotoxic studies is to find the minimal quality that is essential for the successful development of pharmaceutical or cosmetic preparation that induces cellular toxicity for the treatment of cancer.
Some of the cancer drugs with cytotoxic activity have been found to induce cancer cell death accompanied by serious health problems, including weakened immune functioning such as low blood counts causing an increased possibility of developing infection or anemia, tiredness, mouth soreness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetites, constipation or diarrhea, skin changes or reactions. particularly hair loss.
However, the combination used of chemo drug and herbal medicine and plant-based antioxidants that can also stimulate the ROS and antioxidants production to induce cytotoxicity to the tumors can also cause cancer cell death without damage to nearby healthy cells.
For example, cytotoxicity induced by oxidative stress due to the imbalanced ratio of free radicals and antioxidant enzymes produced by the body can cause protein, lipid, and cellular damage that leads to chronic low-grade inflammatory diseases and cancer.
Tocopherols are phytochemicals of which many have vitamin E activity, belongings to the group of Lipids, found abundantly in butter, egg yolk, milk fat, some vegetable, and seed or nut oils, etc.
In finding a potential phytochemical for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the cytotoxicity of tocopherols and their quinones in drug-sensitive and multidrug-resistant leukemia cells.
According to the tested analysis,
* Among tocopherols, only delta-T exhibited cytotoxicity.
* Among para quinones, alpha-TQ showed no cytotoxicity, while gamma-TQ and delta-TQ were highly cytotoxic in both CEM and CEM/VLB100 cell lines (LD50 < 10 muM).
* Delta-TQ and gamma-TQ were more cytotoxic than the widely studied chemotherapeutic agent doxorubicin, which also showed selective cytotoxicity to CEM cells.
* Compared to doxorubicin, the orthoquinone Tocored was less cytotoxic than doxorubicin in drug-sensitive cells but more cytotoxic than doxorubicin in multidrug-resistant cells.
* Cytotoxicity was not a function of the phytyl side-chain since both TMCQ and PR were cytotoxic in leukemia cells.
* Cytotoxicity was enhanced when the glutathione pool was depleted by preincubation with buthionine-[S, R]-sulfoximine, but cytotoxicity was diminished by the addition of N-acetylcysteine to cultures. alpha-T also diminished the cytotoxicity of para- and orthoquinones.
Collectively, researchers said, "tocopheryl quinones represent a new class of alkylating electrophilic quinones that function as highly cytotoxic agents and escape multidrug resistance in acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines".
Taken together, tocopherols may process cytotoxic activity against cancer, pending the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of tocopherols in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

#Greentea and Its #EGCG inhibit Genes and Patways Associated with Tissue Inflammation of #Osteoarthritis, Researchers Reveal
Kyle J. Norton
Regular drinking of green tea may have a positive effect in reducing symptoms of pain and treatment of osteoarthritis, a study by a respectable institute postulated.
But a slice of ginger will neutralize that adverse effects.
Osteoarthritis (OA), a form of arthritis, is a condition characterized by aging progression of wear and tear on a joint, affecting over 25 million people in the United States alone
In a randomized open-label active-controlled clinical trial of 50 adults with osteoarthritis of the knee allocated to receive the green tea extract (in dosage form of tablet) plus diclofenac tablet as "intervention group"; or: diclofenac tablet alone as "control group" for a period of four weeks, combination-treated group exerted a significant improvement of physical function in compared to control.
The treatment group also expressed similar progress in pain reduction during knee joint physical function in adults with osteoarthritis as in the control group.
Additionally, in the compared the effect of curcuminoids extract, hydrolyzed collagen, and green tea extract, in chondrocytes culture cells, researchers found that a combination of all components scores an enormous expression of reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokins through various mechanisms, including ameliorated free radical elucidation.
Furthermore, in support of the above differentiation, the study in the investigation of a posttraumatic osteoarthritis (OA) mouse model tested with EGCG against the progression of OA and relieve OA-associated pain, suggested that EGCG-treated mice promoted cartilage production against Safranin O, staining of the knee joint cartilage loss and cartilage erosion in compared to the control group with no treatment.
Importantly, the cartilage of treated mice also displays a significant reduction of genes in regulated degeneration of connective tissue as well as pathways involved in the promotion of tissue inflammation.
Moreover, the pain score of treated mice also exhibited a significant enhancement compared control group.
Taking together, there is no doubt that the green tea process is a therapeutic and integrated form for the prevention and treatment of symptoms of pain as well as improved physical activity of OA patients through protection against cartilage degeneration.
