#Greentea and Greentea's #EGCG and #GT Fractions Show a Significant Reduction in the Risk of #LiverDisease, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a potentially hepatoprotective effect in the prevention and treatment of liver disease, renowned institutes postulated.

Liver disease is a reduced function in toxin elimination of the liver as a result of damage or injury, caused by medication, or viral infection,...

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine, or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "excessive yin syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

According to the joint study led by the Zhejiang Hospital of Southern Medical University Guangzhou, in the review of the database of PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu databases, regular green tea drinking is associated with a significant reduction in the risk of liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma, liver steatosis, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and chronic liver disease.

Also, Green tea demonstrated a reduced risk of liver disease regardless of the race and geography of the patients residing such as Asian, American, and European subgroups.
Unfortunately, in a mouse model, different doses of GT fractions and EGCG and a single dose of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) combined with EGCG, administered for 5 days to mice suggested that mice fed with combining a single high dose of EGCG with a single dose of LPS showed to induce liver injury.

Repeat injection of EGCG in the group was also found to associate with mild liver injury, probably attributed to the adverse effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the study insisted.

Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is one of the major and powerful antioxidants of green tea found to be the most effective cancer chemopreventive polyphenol in many studies posted in the medical literature. However, the single ingredients extract has also been found to induce hepatotoxicity and acute liver dysfunction on many occasions due to overdoses and long-term usage.

Additionally, the Baylor College of Medicine and Dalhousie University, Halifax reported, "(There is) a case of acute impending liver failure in an adolescent male using a weight-loss product containing green tea extract" and "acute liver toxicity observed in individuals consuming supplements containing green tea extract".

Taking all together, the conflict result of green tea in liver disease may be the result of study design, group selection, sample size, doses intake,........People with liver disease should talk to a specialist in herbal products before consuming.

#GreenTea #EGCG, Significantly Inhibits #Freeradical and #Iron Free Radical Expression in the Cellular Membranes Associated with the Onset of #Parkinson's disease

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may be considered a functional food and iron chelator in reducing the risk and progression of Parkinson's disease, some scientists suggested
Iron chelation therapy is a primary and standard treatment for patients with iron overload.

Green tea is a precious drink that process a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, that causes severe depletion of glutamatergic and dopaminergic inputs in the striatum.

Investigation of the green tea EGCG effect in risk and progression of PD has been found to associate to many mechanisms involved in a number of aspects.

Application of metal chelation was found to ameliorate the expression of ROS in the induction of oxidative stress through a chain of reaction and precipitation of aggregation of alpha-synuclein and beta-amyloid peptides deposit in the brain, the main leading causes to the onset of PD.

In iron abnormality PD subjects, oxidopamine, also known as 6-hydroxydopamine or 2,4,5-trihydroxyphenethylamine(6-OHD), a neurotoxic synthetic organic compound was found to disrupt iron metabolism, leading to over-expression of the iron induction of dyshomeostasis cause of iron toxicity and oxidative damage in dopaminergic neurons.

Green tea major polyphenol, (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate used in metal chelation, ameliorated iron-dependent free radicals located in the subcellular compartments and cellular membranes, through the effect in inhibited iron input and exhibited iron output in brain areas where it preferentially accumulates in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinsons' disease.

Further analysis of the neurotoxin 6-OHDA causes of iron unstable equilibrium, green extract GECG administration improved the function of hepcidin, a liver-derived hormone in regulated iron dyshomeostasis and gene expression of the iron metabolism through expressions of iron regulatory proteins (IRP1 and IRP2) in regulated the RNA level, between the transcription and the translation of the gene in the expression of the iron homeostasis.

Indeed, In the differentiation of neurotoxin 6-OHDA induced iron dyshomeostasis has been shown to increase oxidative stress in damage to neuron cells, green extract GECG effects demonstrated significant inhibition of free radical and iron free radical expression in the cellular membranes through the antioxidant activities and anti-inflammatory system and expression of nuclear factor-like 2(Nrf2) in stimulated production of antioxidant in protection against oxidative damage during injury and inflammation; heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) in increased production of superoxide dismutase and catalase against ROS and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) in regulated production of pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines.

By reducing the over-expression of oxidative damage to neuron cells through the regulation of iron-related factors as mentioned above, iron chelator EGCG can counteract these adverse effects and prevent the onset of PD.

Further study of the mechanism of disruption of iron metabolism by 6-OHDA in PD cell line N27, discovered that application of the iron chelator EGCG also disrupts the iron dyshomeostasis in N27 cells (dopaminergic neural cell line) induced by 6-OHDA through regulating iron transporters and regulators expression, such as DMT1 with function in mediation of the entry of dietary iron into these mucosal cells and TfR, a carrier protein for transferrin with function in import iron into the cell and regulated response to intracellular iron concentration and hepcidin, a central regulator in maintain iron homeostasis.

Dysregulation of hepcidin production results in a variety of iron disorders.

Additionally, in 6-OHDA induced neurotoxicity to cause PD, administration of green tea GECG also reduced the intracellular iron retention by decreasing the iron importers and increasing iron exporters, through regulation of the function of iron-regulated transporters, such as ferroportin.

Interestingly, there was a report suggesting that intervention of 3 cups of green tea daily for 3 months improved the antioxidant status and reduced oxidative damage in early PD patients without affecting their iron status.

The findings revealed that green tea bioactive polyphenol, (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate may be considered an iron chelator in the regulation of PD progression.

#HerbalMedicines Protect the Lung Smooth Muscles and Alleviates the Asthmatic Symptoms Through their Antioxidant and Antiinflammatory Activities

Kyle J. Norton

Respiratory Disease is a medical condition that affects the breathing organ and tissues including Inflammatory lung diseases, such as obstructive lung diseases, restrictive lung diseases, respiratory tract infections, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, the nerves,....... and muscle breathing.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease, affecting the airway of the lung with recurring symptoms, such as wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.

The disease affects people of all ages, and most start during childhood.

According to the American academy, allergy, asthma, and immunology, about 1 in 10 children (10%) had asthma and 1 in 12 adults (8%) had asthma in 2009. (about 25 million, or 8% of the U.S. population)(1).

Asthma symptoms vary from person to person. However, asthma attacks may induce serious symptoms of shortness of breath, chest tightness or pain,...... and cough that causes trouble sleeping

Some researchers suggested that asthma attacks may be a result of allergic effects, such as pollen, mold spores, occupational effects such as gases or dust,..... and physical effects such as exercise.

Epidemiological studies, linking herbs in reduced risk and treatment have been inconclusive(a)(b)(c)(d), but certain herbs have been found to be effective in some studies.

1. Angelica Sinensis (Oliv.)
Dang Qui (Angelica Sinensis) is a herb of Genus Angelica from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China.

The herb has been used as a Queen herb in traditional Chinese medicine as an antispasmodic and vasodilatory agent, to balance the hormones in women for a normal menstrual cycle and menstruation and strengthen the heart, spleen, kidneys, and liver for both men and women, etc.

In other words, Dang Qui is used frequently to treat gynecological ailments, fatigue, mild anemia, and high blood pressure.

The herb also processes analgesic, anti-inflammatory, etc.

Ethanolic extract (AD of Angelica in the study at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, showed to suppress airway allergic inflammation, by significantly lower airway eosinophilia, cytokine levels, including interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha levels, mucus production, and immunoglobulin (Ig)E in mice(1).

Danggui Buxue Tang, a composition of Angelica sinensis (AS) and Astragalus membranaceous (AM), in OVA-sensitized mice, its DBT2 or DBT3 showed no improved effects relative to DBT1 in treating asthmatic symptoms but DBT1 showed to suppress airway hyperresponsiveness and OVA-immunoglobulin E (IgE) in serum(2).

According to Thammasat University, ethanol found in Angelica sinensis exerted its anti-inflammatory activity through antioxidant effects(3).

2. Ginkgo biloba
Ginkgo biloba is the oldest living tree species, genus Ginkgo, belongings to the family Ginkgoaceae, native to China, from the temperate zone to the subtropical zone and some parts of North America.

It Has been used in traditional herbal medicine in treating impotence, memory loss, respiratory diseases, circulatory disorders, and deafness as well as to prevent drunkenness and bedwetting.

Ginkgolide B (GKB), a major chemical compound of ginkgo biloba, in BALB/c mice exerted its anti-asthmatic activity through inhibited the increase of T-helper 2 cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-5 and IL-13 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and decreased eosinophil count via inhibition of the ERK/MAPK signaling pathway(4).

The composition of Ginkgo biloba leaf extract (EGb761), astaxanthin (ASX), and vitamin C, also inhibited asthma-associated inflammation in asthmatic guinea pigs (5)

And, Ginkgo biloba extracts showed to inhibit asthmatic disorder through the suppression of f NF-kappaB gene expression actively in HL-60 cells(6).

According to Dokuz Eylul University Hospital, biloba alleviates all established chronic histological changes in the lung except smooth muscle thickness in a mouse model of asthma(7).

3. Licorice
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) also known as sweetwood, is the genus Glycyrrhiza, belonging to the family Fabaceae, native to the Mediterranean and certain areas of Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine to treat skin diseases, coughs, constipation, bronchitis, inflammation, arthritis, etc.

Licochalcone A (Lico A) isolated from the root of Xinjiang licorice, exerted its anti-inflammatory activity on a non-infectious mouse model of asthma, through inhibition of the increase in T-helper type 2 cytokines and reduced serum levels of OVA-specific IgE and IgG(8).

ASHMI, the composition of aqueous extracts of Lingzhi (Ganoderma lucidum), Kushen (Sophora flavescens) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizauralensis), is effective on allergic asthma, through inhibition of production of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-5 by murine memory Th2 cells and eotaxin-1 production by HLF-1 cells(9).

Another study in a murine model also suggested that ASHMI not only significantly reduces eosinophilic pulmonary inflammation, serum IgE levels, IL-4, and IL-13 levels but also increases IFN-γ production in lung cell cultures in response to antigen stimulation(10).

4. Chamomile
Chamomile is also known as camomile, the common name of many species of daisy-like plants in the family Asteraceae.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory constituent and to treat menstrual cramps and sleep disorders, reduce cramping and spastic pain in the bowels, relieve excessive gas and bloating in the intestine, etc.

Water composition extract of a mixture of eight herbs (chamomile, saffron, anise, fennel, caraway, licorice, cardamom, and black seed), showed to alleviate the symptoms of asthma, through inhibition of histamine released from chemically- and immunologically-induced cells(11).

5. Garlic
Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to the family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia.

It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating the common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotics, etc.

Diallyl disulfide (DADS), a major organosulfur compound found in garlic, in an ovalbumin-induced model of allergic asthma and RAW264.7 cells, showed to inhibit the proinflammatory proteins, through up-regulation of Nrf-2/HO-1 and down-regulation of NF-κB pathways(12).

According to the study by Tarbiat Modares University, purified aged garlic extract exhibited the protective effect of asthma through a significant decrease in the hallmark criteria of allergic airway inflammation levels(13).

6. Grape seed extract
Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is a liquid extracted from the seeds, pulp, and white membranes of grapefruit.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an antibacterial, viral, fungal, and parasite and to enhance the immune system, protect against colds and flu, and malignant diseases.

Grape seed extract (GSPE) may alleviate the symptoms of asthma through its antioxidant activities.

According to the study of the University of Ulsan College of Medicine, GSPE effectively suppressed inflammation in both acute and chronic mouse models of asthma, through reduced airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), decreased inflammatory cells in the BAL fluid, reduced lung inflammation, and decreased IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and eotaxin-1 expression(14) by downregulating the iNOS expression(15).

Some researchers suggested that GSE significantly ameliorated the pathological changes of ovalbumin-induced asthma, through inhibition of altered lung parenchyma pathology and inflammation in the ovalbumin-induced murine asthma model(16).

Most important, even though the application of some herbs mentioned above exerted an enormous effect in the inhibition of asthma symptoms and asthma but most of the data on the health effects are based on human cells and animal models.

Therefore, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption over a long term and during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of the possibilities of the above herbal efficacy.

Additionally, while addressing the possible advantages of herbal intake researchers must also take into account potential, risks such as quality controls, dosages, and dosage-induced adverse effects of acute liver toxicity.

Where interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, 13, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha are pro-inflammatory cytokines activated by an immune response against infection caused by microorganisms.

Eotaxin-1 expression is activated by IL-13 or TNF-α with the function of directing inflammatory cells through its receptors.

Nrf2/HO-1 is a protein with the function to react as an antioxidative stress response.

Nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), a major mediator of inflammation, plays an important role in response to stress.

#GreenTea's Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (#EGCG) Attenuates the Risk of #Atherosclerosis by Ameliorating #LipidDeposition

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of atherosclerosis, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, inducing "excessive yin syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakened immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Atherosclerosis is medical condition characterized by the deposition of plaques of fatty material on the inner walls, causing to hardening of the arterial vessels.

According to statistics, the mortality rate of coronary heart disease was about 60% in 2010 compared to 30% for stroke and heart failure.

In the study to determine the effect of green tea bioactive epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in ameliorated Porphyromonas gingivalis -induced atherosclerosis in a murine model, after injection of the extract EGCG, the tested mice than fed high-fat diets and injected with P. gingivalis three times a week for 3 weeks, observation at weeks 15 displayed a significant reduction of atherosclerotic plaques accumulated in the branches of arteries, observed by Oil Red O staining

Further analysis also found that the polyphenol extract decreased infection of atherosclerotic lesion areas in the anatomic dilations of the ascending aorta through decreased expression of C-reactive protein, in regulating the acute phase of infection and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1/CCL2) chemokines in regulated migration and infiltration of monocytes/macrophages. of the immune system in induced production of cytokines to counter foreign substances.

Additional observation, also indicated that green tea bioactive epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) not also improved LDL/very LDL cholesterol but also ameliorated ROS activity via antioxidant in induced low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation, a leading indicator of plague accumulation.

In depth differentiation, the efficacy of green tea epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in reduced expression of atherosclerosis due to bacterial P. gingivalis was attributed to decrease secreted proteins with functions in stimulated inflammatory effects, such as chemokines (CCL2) involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes, matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9) in regulated pathological remodeling processes that involve inflammation, ICAM-1 (Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1) involvesd inflammation of capillary vessel walls, the mitochondrial chaperonin hsp60 in induction of inflammation,......

Interestingly, in the process to prevent plague to initiation of development of atherosclerosis through above implications, green tea epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) also increased levels of antioxidant defense enzyme (heme oxygenase-1 mRNA) HO-1 mRNA levels in reduced expression of oxidative stress in induction of pathogenic inflammatory diseases.

Intrusively, continued investigation the effect of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in inhibiting the formation and development of atherosclerosis via its anti-inflammatory capability also found that EGCG restricts the function of IL6 (interleukin 6) in induced over-expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and Angiotensin (Ang) II functions in stimulated and increased vascular permeability through production of vascular endothelial cell growth factor CRP in initiated the pro-inflammatory process.

Interleukin 6 is an interleukin with duo functions of pro inflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory cytokines.

Amazingly, antioxidant activities of EGCG also acted as free radical scavengers to prevent ROS to establish a chain reaction in induction of inflammatory effect in encouraging lipid accumulation in the inner wall of arteries, the leading cause of atherosclerosis.

ROS are free radicals with the function to mediate many pathophysiological processes, such as growth, migration, apoptosis and secretion of inflammatory cytokines,

Angiotensin is a hormone with function in regulated vasoconstriction in increased blood pressure.

Application of combined (-)-Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) +chitosan (CS) and aspartic acid (PAA). demonstrated a significant effect in reduced risk and treatment of atherosclerosis through ameliorated lipid deposition in tested animals.

In comparison to the effects of conventional medicine simvastatin with an approximately successful treatment rate of lipid deposition of 15.6%, injection of (-)-Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) +chitosan (CS) and aspartic acid (PAA).exhibited overall treatment rate of 16.9%.

The evidence suggests that EGCG, as a natural substance, may have a substantial and therapeutic effect in attenuating the risk and treatment of atherosclerosis through anti-inflammatory and antioxidative activities.

#Daily and Regularly Moderated #GreenTea Intake Inhibits Parameters that Cause #LifestyleRelatedDiseases, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea is found to consist a therapeutic and sustainable effect in reducing the risk and progression of lifestyle diseases, some scientists postulated.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

Lifestyle diseases are a class of diseases associated with the way a person or group of people lives, including atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke; obesity and type 2 diabetes....and diseases precipitated by smoking and alcohol and drug abuse.

Epidemiological studies suggested that lifestyle-related diseases may be preventable with the change of lifestyle accompanied by the intake of some nontoxic agents.

Differentiation of the effect of green tea in attenuated risk and treatment of lifestyle-related diseases was found to associate with some mechanisms involving a number of aspects, particularly, in gene facilitation.

In an animal model, green tea administration inhibited risk and symptoms, and progression of chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis, through regulation of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) gene in the expression of inflammatory cytokines in promoted systematic inflammation in the acute phase of infection caused by damage and injure tissues, in modulated the activation of NF-kappaB signaling pathway related to cellular response in the induction of anti and pro-inflammatory stimulation and transcription factor complex (AP-1) in the initiation of inflammation against foreign invasion.

The inhibition of inflammatory cytokines expression reduced symptoms of pain, reddish skin, and swelling without limiting the protective effect of the immune system to prevent damage to tissues against an invasion of foreign substances.

Further analysis of chronic inflammatory diseases, in transgenic mice model with human idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, suggested that injection of green tea in 4 months demonstrated a significant activity in ameliorated overexpression of TNF-alpha in stimulated production of pro inflammatory cytokines and interleukin (IL)-6 in initiated inflammatory expression in cellular defense in response to infections and tissue injuries in the lung.

In lifestyle-related diseases of cardiovascular disease, intake of green tea beverages or extracts expressed significant reductions in serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations, without affecting the levels of HDL-cholesterol.

Additionally, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, green tea extract catechin injection improved fasting glucose levels without affecting the hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level, which is a predictor of type 2 diabetes onset and green tea consumed 5 or more cups per day was associated to a strongly and positively inverse association to risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
.
More amazingly, after taking into account other confounders, Dr. Sueoka E, the lead scientist suggested that intake of green tea, containing catechins and caffeine, 5 or more cups per day exhibited a potential and therapeutic effect for body weight management, without going into details.

According to the prospective cohort study in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, green tea injections of over 10 cups per day, displayed a substantial effect in decreased relative risk of death from all causes in patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly, in stroke mortality.

Taken together, there is no doubt that green tea with abundantly bioactive phytochemicals may be considered a functional food to reduce risk, progression, and treatment of lifestyle-related disease, but a change of lifestyle is always recommended.

The endometrium is the inner lining of the mammalian uterus and is very susceptible to hormone change, particularly at the start and the end menstrual cycle.

Endometrial cancer is a late adulthood cancer characterized by abnormal cells of the endometrial lining of the uterus caused by the alternation of cell's DNA.

In the advanced stage, endometrial cancerous cells can follow blood and lymph fluids circulation to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

Endometrial cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women overall, after breast cancer, lung cancer, and bowel cancer.

Researchers do not know what causes the alternation of DNA of cells in the lining of endometrium However, certain risk factors may be associated to the increased prevalence of the disease, such as the imbalance of female hormones in the body, years of menstruation, aging, obesity,... and use of hormone therapy.

If a woman experiences some symptoms of abnormal vaginal bleeding, vaginal bleeding in menopause bleeding between periods, persistent pelvic pain,,,,,,,, and abnormal watery or blood-tinged discharge from your vagina, she should see her doctor right the away to rule out the possibility of endometrial cancer.

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is one of the species of Bearberry, in the genus Arctostaphylos, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to northern North America, Asia, and Europe.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as a diuretic agent and to treat urinary problems, including bladder infections, kidney infection, kidney stone,..... and pelvic pain.

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi phytochemical compounds include arbutin, ursolic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, some essential oil and resin, hydroquinones tannins, phenolic glycosides, and flavonoids.

Ursolic acid, a pentacyclic triterpene acid, extracted from Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is found to be effective in inhibition of the growth of endometrial cancer cell HEC108 line, in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

Injection at a dose of 50, 75, or 100 microM in endometrial cancer cell HEC108 line, exerted a significant increase in the caspase-3 activity in initiating cancer cells apoptosis, after 24 h compared to levels in control.

The cleaved caspase-3 levels are found to increase linearly, depending on the volume of application.

Furthermore, the application of ursolic acid also decreased the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein levels which play an important role in promoting cancer cell survival and increased Bax expression in regulating cancer cell death by activation of tumor suppressor protein p53.

Dr. Achiwa Y, the lead scientist said, "Ursolic acid-induced apoptotic processes in these poorly differentiated endometrial cancer cells occur through mechanisms involving mitochondrial pathways (or apoptosis) and Bcl-2 family proteins".

Apoptosis is a process that programs cell death.

Moreover, in the study to examine the effect of ursolic acid, on the growth of the endometrial cancer cell line SNG-II., ursolic acid strongly inhibited the growth of SNG-II cells.

At doses of At 25 and 50 microM strength, ursolic acid induced increased expression of caspase-3 activity to approximately 5-fold in compared to those controlled in facilitated cell apoptosis.

Similar to other study, levels of cleaved caspase-3 increased depending mainly on time- and dose- applied.

Additionally, the induced apoptotic processes in the endometrial cancer SNG-II cells by application of ursolic acid are also attributed to the activation of functions of mitochondrial pathways and Bcl-2 family proteins.

These results suggested that herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi bioactive compound ursolic acid stops the growth and proliferation of endometrial cancer cells by killing cancer cells through apoptotic pathways.

However, additional large sample size and multicenter clinical trials with human consumption during the course of the disease are necessary to reconfirm herbal Arctostaphylos uva-ursi bioactive compound ursolic acid anti endometrial cancer possibility.

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of esophageal cancer, some scientists suggested.

Esophageal cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the esophagus. At the later stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.

According to statistics, 2,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2017.

In the review of the literature published online, green tea efficacy in the treatment of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was expressed in a number of mechanisms.

In esophageal cancer cell lines Eca109 and Ec9706, injection of green tea EGCG plus chemo drug adriamycin (ADM) after 24 hours displayed a significantly increased cellular apoptosis.

According to the flow cytometry assay, the application induced the elevation of ROS and ADM concentration in the production of toxicity to counter the reaction of tumor cell in diminished expression of mitochondrial membrane potential and ABCG2 protein to induced apoptosis.without harming to healthy cells.

ABCG2 protein expression plays a major role in multi-drug resistance, produced by tumor cells to accounter reaction to chemo-medicine.
Mitochondrial membrane potential is a central intermediate in oxidative energy metabolism, the deceased levels caused by toxicity ROS may result in energy deletion and subsequently, cause cell death.

Further observation also indicated that EGCG inhibited the growth of Eca109 and Ec9706 cells through ameliorating the anti-apoptotic bcl-2 protein expression and promoted bax and caspase-3 protein expressions with functions in induced apoptosis in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

BCL2 family members form hetero- or homodimers and play an important anti-apoptotic protein.

Caspase-3 protein. plays a central role in the execution phase of cell apoptosis.

BAX gene. BAX is a member of the Bcl-2 gene family. plays an important role in the mediation of cell death by apoptosis.

Compared to ADM treatment alone, the Eca109/ABCG2 multi-drug resistance cancer cells, rate of apoptosis and ADM concentration were significant higher anid levels of mitochondrial membrane potential and ABCG2 expression were lower.

In other word, injection of green tea plus ADM was more effective in induced cells death in Eca109/ABCG2 multi-drug resistance cancer cells with expression ROS and ADM in enhanced elevation cytotoxity activity in compared to ADM treatment alone.

After taking into account other confounders, Dr, Liu L the lead author said, " EGCG inhibited cell growth and induced esophageal cancer cell apoptosis. It reduced the bcl-2 protein expression and increased the bax and caspase-3 protein expression. EGCG reversed multi-drug resistance by reducing ABCG2 expression and increasing the anticancer drug concentration in cancer cells".

In esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) without ADM measured by flow cytometry assay after 24 hours also inhibited cancer site proliferation by increased expression of ROS to attenuate mitochondrial membrane potential function in energy metabolism and caspase-3 protein to cause malignant cellular apoptosis, in a dose and time-dependent manner.

In the examine the PCR-TRAP argentation analysis during the experiment, EGCG was also demonstrated to inhibit the viability of Eca109 and Ec9706 cells by suppressing cancer cells in alternated DNA transcript through telomerase activity.

More interestingly, the continuation of the study of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on the human esophageal cancer cell line ECa109 also discover that EGCG demonstrated a decrease of cancer cell viability but a substantial rate of apoptosis by increased expression of p16 gene demethylation in induced cancer cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, level p16 mRNA expression in suppressed tumor progression of invasive and aggressive behavior. and p16 protein expression in promoted tumor suppressible activity, in a dose- and time-dependent manner.

P16 gene demethylation plays an important role in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. gene alternation was found in several types of cancer.

A low level of p16 mRNA expression is associated with the progression of cancer with malignant and aggressive behavior.

Abnormalities of the p16 gene and loss of p16 protein expression may be related to the pathogenesis and development of some cancers.

Taken together, green tea with an abundance of phytochemical Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as an adjunct therapy to combine with standard chemo-medicine in reduced risk and treatment of esophageal cancer.
