#Greentea #EGCG + #ECG Suppress the Viral RNA Synthesis, and Neuraminidase Activity Assoicated with #Influenzavirus, Researchers Say

Kyle J. Norton

Including green tea, the Camellia sinensis leaves as a beverage in your daily diet, may have a therapeutic and positive effect in protection against influenza, some scientists suggested.
Influenza, is also known as "the flu", is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus.

Green tea, is a precious drink that processed a number of health benefits and is known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

In investigating the green tea effect in reducing the risk of influenza viral overspreading in the general population, researchers at Yonsei University conducted a study to evaluate catechin derivatives with different alkyl chain lengths and aromatic ring substitutions at the 3-hydroxyl group synthesized from epigallocatechin (EGC) and (+)-catechin (C) activity against influenza virus.

According to the experiment, application of catechin derivatives, carrying moderate chain length (7-9 carbons) exerted a pronounced effect in inhibited overexpression of the virus in compared to those with aromatic rings.

Interestingly, injection of the 5'-hydroxyl group did not significantly contribute to antiviral activity against trihydroxy benzyl moiety.

However, administration of both derivatives demonstrated an inhibitory effect for all six influenza subtypes tested including three major types of currently circulating human influenza viruses (A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B type), H2N2 and H9N2 avian influenza virus, through strongly inhibited adsorption of the viruses on red blood cell (RBC).

In vivo, the derivatives also expressed impressive activity in restricted the growth of avian influenza virus with minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of 5-10 microM far exceeding the dose of conventional medicine oseltamivir or M2 proton channel inhibitor amantadine with the same purposes.

Further analysis suggested that the derivatives isolated from catechin inhibited effects were attributed to the mediation and interaction with hemagglutinin (HA)/viral membrane at the initial stage of infection.

Dr. Song JM, the lead author, after taking account of all assessments said, "The broad spectrum activity against various subtypes of influenza viruses may complement the limitations of current antivirals and contribute to managing potentially emerging influenza pandemic".

Importantly, in the comparison of the theaflavins fraction (TF80%, with a purity of 80%) and three theaflavins (TF) derivatives potently inhibitory effects against influenza virus in vitro, scientists at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College indicated that all applications displayed significant inhibitory effects on the HA of three different subtypes of influenza virus strains [A/PR/8/34(H1N1), A/Sydney/5/97(H3N2) and B/Jiangsu/10/2003] with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) values ranging from 9.27 to 36.55 μg/mL, probably though expression and interaction on HA as above differentiation.

Additionally, TF derivatives inhibited the over-expression of viral particle infectivity consistently and correlatively with the inhibitory effect on HA.

According to the qPCR and nuclear localization of the influenza virus vRNP assays, all applications exerted anti infectivity by interrupting the viral replication and also decreased the production of inflammatory cytokine IL-6 in induction of serious tissue injury and apoptosis.

The above evaluation were supported by the Yonsei University study of the polyphenolic compound catechins ((-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG) and (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC)) from green tea in inhibited influenza virus replication in cell culture and for potentially direct virucidal effect.

According to the results, among all compound selected in the assessment, EGCG and ECG were found to be potent inhibitors of influenza virus replication in MDCK( in a suitable transfection host for influenza research) cell culture, including A/H1N1, A/H3N2 and B virus, observed in all influenza virus subtypes tested, with 50% effective inhibition concentration (EC50) of EGCG, ECG, and EGC for influenza A virus at doses of 22-28, 22-40 and 309-318 microM, respectively.

The effective compounds EGCG and ECG also displayed an exhibited anti-hemagglutination activity, similar to those in the above studies.

Moreover, compared to the EGCG and ECG anti-influenza virus efficacy, researchers surprisingly found that at high concentrations, EGCG + ECG also suppressed viral RNA synthesis in MDCK cells whereas EGC failed to show a similar effect and EGCG + ECG inhibited the neuraminidase activity more effectively than the ECG.

These results reaffirmed that the expression of green tea biocative polyphenols antiviral effect of catechins on influenza virus is mediated not only by specific interaction with HA, but also alter the physical properties of viral membrane, Dr. Song JM, the lead author of the study suggested.

Taken together, green tea with abundant phytochemical polyphenols may be considered as a functional food for reduced risk, progression, and treatment of influenza infection.

Intake of CookedBeans Not Only Process #GlycaemicResponse and Reduce the Risk of #Diabetes and #CardiovascularDisease(CVD), Scientists Show

Kyle J. Norton

Black or common beans may be considered as function foods in attenuated risk of cardiovascular disease, a renowned institute postulated.
Cardiovascular disease is a condition of heart attack caused by a block of blood in vessels as a result of the narrowing and hardening of blood vessels.

Black bean, a small roughly ovoid legumes with glossy black shells, genus Phaseolus, belongings to the family Fabaceae can be bought in most grocery stores all around the year in dried and canned forms.

It is believed that the black bean was the first domesticated growth in South America.

According to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, individuals who eat more beans in promoted less glycaemic stress (hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia) may have a reduced risk of CVD,

The study also addressed the importance of bean efficacy on glycaemic response and the impact that relationship may have on the risk of developing diabetes and CVD.

In the Sprague-Dawley rats model and C57Bl/6 mice induced obesity by a diet, both bean diet, groups showed a significant in reduced plasma total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol without affecting HDL-cholesterol or total TAG in the short-term. And bean-fed obese mice not only induced weight loss but also improved plasma lipid profile within a 12 d time frame compared to other groups.

The weight loss and reduced levels of blood cholesterol in tested subjects provided significant information on bean function in ameliorated risk of cardiovascular disease.

Other in the study of the risk of development of cardiovascular complications in patients with diabetes, suggested that the imbalance between reactive oxygen species and antioxidant systems in patients with type 2 diabetes may be the leading cause of heart complications involving high cardiac collagen content.

Therefore, increased intake of bean diet may play a prevalent role in reduced risk of CVD by increased total antioxidant activity and decreased the expression of hyperglycaemic state, catalase and superoxide dismutase activity, and tissue damage caused by lipid peroxidation.

Dr. Oliveira RJ, the lead author said, "The phaseolamin treatment attenuated the collagen levels compared to non-treated diabetic rats. Thus, the short-term anti-hyperglycaemic effect of the phaseolamin treatment may prevent the initial changes caused by oxidative stress and the deposition of collagen, as well as reduce the incidence of heart complications".

Collectively, adding a bean portion to your diet daily may have a substantially reduced risk of heart disease and heart complications in diabetics, in comparison to people with a typical American diet.

#Coffee Consumption Significantly Reduces the risk of Dementia/AD, and other #ChronicDiseases Such as #Alzheimer’s disease

Kyle J. Norton

Coffee intake may have a positive implication in reduced risk of early onset of Alzheimer’s disease, a respectable joint study suggested.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted beans from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Alzheimer’s disease is a generalized and progressive neurodegenerative disease due to aging.

In a rat model for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) induced by phosphoprotein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), eicosanoid-5-hydroxytryptamine (EHT), researchers showed that components found in coffee exhibited a protective effect against AD, through inhibited expression of the I2(PP2A), or SET protein involved multiple cellular processes in the brains.

More importantly, oral administration of the supplement for 12 months showed a strongly attenuated all the defects of cognitive impairment, including tau hyperphosphorylation, and elevated levels of cytoplasmic amyloid-β protein caused by phosphoprotein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) injection.

Dr. Basurto-Islas G, the lead author in the joint study said, ” possibility that EHT may make a substantial contribution to the apparent neuroprotective benefits associated with coffee consumption as evidenced by numerous epidemiologic studies indicating that coffee drinkers have substantially lowered risk of developing AD”.

Furthermore, Dr. Wierzejska R in the evaluated effects of caffeine coffee in dietary factors which might prolong mental agility, said, ” moderate coffee consumption in fact has a lower the risk for common neurodegenerative conditions, i.e. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases” and “Possibly, in the future experts will recommend drinking coffee not only to satisfy individual taste preferences but also to decrease age-related mental deterioration.”.

Others, in the concerns of the high consumption of coffee the effect on individual’s health through evaluating database of online medical literature, researchers found that coffee-drinking habits, and/or the quantity of coffee consumption, have a significantly reduced risk of dementia/AD, and other chronic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood when comparing coffee drinkers with non-drinker.

Taking together, regular drinking of caffeine coffee in a moderated amount daily may have a positive effect in attenuating the risk and progression of Alzheimer’s disease and caffeine may be considered as a novel therapy for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

#Greentea #Supplement #GTE Processes Anti Microbial Activity Associated with the Risk of #InfectiousDiseases, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Including green tea as a beverage in your diet may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of bacterial and viral infectious diseases, some scientists suggested.
The results of the analysis were carried out by a number of institutes, including Yonsei University, and punished online medical literature.

Green tea is a precious drink that processed a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

According to the Review provided by VeriMed Healthcare Network. intake of green tea 2 to 4 cups per day by steeping covered for 5 to 10 minutes for leaves or flowers and 10 to 20 minutes for roots was associated to support immunity while providing antibacterial and antiviral activity.

Also, green tea (Camellia sinensis) extract of 250 to 500 mg daily, enhanced immune function due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune effects.

Moreover, tannin, green tea derived polyphenols and other related compounds, in the study to investigate the anti-viral effects of tannins on 12 different viruses including both enveloped viruses (influenza virus H3N2, H5N3, herpes simplex virus-1, vesicular stomatitis virus, Sendai virus and Newcastle disease virus) and non-enveloped viruses (poliovirus, coxsachievirus, adenovirus, rotavirus, feline calicivirus and mouse norovirus) researchers suggested that application of tannin reduced some viral infectivity in compared to persimmon (Diospyros kaki) with more than 4-log scale against all of the viruses tested.

More importantly, the differentiation of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) effect against viral infections also indicated that EGCG injection in solution type and powder types over extended periods at various temperature conditions exerts a strong effect in inhibited the tested human influenza A/H1N1 virus.

Green tea extract in the study also demonstrated potent viral inactivating activity for over a period of up to 2 months.

These results suggested that adding green tea supplement GTE may provide a greater than 4 log10 reduction of viral titers at a wide range of temperatures.

Dr. Lee YH, after taking into account other co and confounders said, "GTE-based antiviral agents could be formulated as a safe and environmentally friendly personal hygiene against viral infections".

The findings showed that green tea and green tea extract may be considered functional foods in reduced risk and treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacterial and viral invasion.

However, intake of green tea supplementations should be taken with extreme care as acute liver toxicity has been reported in a number of cases.

#Green tea and its Epigallocatechin 3-gallate (#EGCG) Reduce #BackPain Caused by Physical Damage to the Spine and injured Nerve Cells, According to Studies

Kyle J. Norton

Green tea and its bioactive catechin epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) may have a therapeutic and positive effect in ameliorated symptoms and treatment of chronic back pain, some scientists suggested.
Green tea is a precious drink that processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

Back pain is a condition of Musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs) of the spine caused by various factors, including bone fractures, muscle or ligament injure, arthritis, and herniated discs. aging,...

Application of biologically active polyphenol epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) demonstrated a significant effect in reduced back pain through facilitating anti-inflammatory and anti-catabolic activity in patients with intervertebral disc (IVD) disease due to age-related changes in the adult disc in the induction of back pain.

According to the study by the Institute for Biomechanics (D-HEST), ETH Zurich ingestion of green tea EGCG on back pain patients, human IVD cells isolated from patients undergoing surgery due to degenerative disc disease (n = 34) and cultured in 2D or 3D indicated that the phytochemical inhibited levels of inflammatory response activated by IL-1β, a cytokine protein produced by macrophages, with function in contributed to the inflammatory pain hypersensitivity in the site of infection observed by the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescence and transcription factor assay.

Furthermore, the application also displayed a strong effect in reduced expression of
p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases in mediated inflammatory factors of IL-1β in response to stress stimuli.

Also, according to the Institute for Biomechanics (D-HEST), in the investigation of the analgesic properties of EGCG, by the von Frey filament test in Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 60), green tea EGCG injection also significantly inhibited the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators as expressed in above and reduced matrix metalloproteinases which have been found to associate to pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other proteins to regulate varied aspects of inflammation and immunity.

Moreover, in the radiculopathy pain component, researchers also indicated that EGCG inhibited the inflammation in precipitated back pain through modulation of the activity of IRAK-1 in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle and p38, c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) and nuclear factor NF-κB in responded to stress stimuli in mediated production of pain-related pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β.

Some researchers postulated that back pain may also be induced by muscle degeneration and impairment of nerve injury, leading to increased levels of reactive oxygen species in induced tissue apoptosis.

In crushing the sciatic nerve-induced back pain in a tested animal, the application of green tea EGCG improved motor function in the toe spread and foot positioning and gain in the percentage motor deficit.

More importantly, EGCG expressed a significant effect in the recovery of sensory innervation in neuropathic pain-like syndrome and improvement of muscle tissues from injured limbs with severe histopathological alterations at the end of week 3 post-surgery in treated animals.

According to the RT-PCR assay, EGCG treatment also normalizes the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, abnormal ratio of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio has been found to associate in induction of nerve cell apoptosis as well as inhibited levels of p53 with function in regulated the cell death cycle at days 3 and 7 post-surgery.

These results demonstrated an important effect of green tea EGCG in enhanced functional recovery, protected muscle fibers from cellular death, and improved morphological recovery in skeletal muscle after nerve injuries.

However, in the study of caffeine activity in the modulation of pain perception in chronic pain states of 131 patients with chronic low back pain (64 men and 67 women; mean age = 42.1 years; mean duration of pain = 6.1 years) referred to a multidisciplinary pain clinic over a 2-year period, researchers found that in compared to caffeine intake regardless concentration, caffeine is not related to the global experience of pain and disability in patients with chronic low back pain, although high caffeine use may be embedded in a context of other unhealthy lifestyle behaviors.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive component epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered a functional food for reduced back pain caused by physical damage to the spine and injured nerve cells. Intake of green tea supplements should be taken with exceptional care as some cases of liver acute toxicity have been reported in the medical literature.

#Omega 3 & 6 and Antioxidants Stop Hair Loss and Improve Hair Diameter & Density, Researchers Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Researchers may have found ingredients for treatment of hair loss pattern.
Supplementation with specific omega 3 & 6 and antioxidants acts efficiently against hair loss, improves hair density and reduces the telogen percentage and the proportion of miniaturized anagen hair, the Laboratoires innéov study suggested

The results of the investigation were published on online literature.

Omega-3& 6 fatty acids are phytochemincals in the class of lipids, found abundantly in dark-green leafy vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts,…

Antioxidants are substances with function in inhibited oxidation caused by reactive oxygen species.

Many antioxidants also act as free radical scavengers, such as vitamin C, D and E.

Human have to absorb Omega 3 & 6 from other sources as they do not produce them.

A total of 120 healthy female subjects participated in this 6-month, randomized, comparative study to evaluate the change in hair density on standardized photographs primary with. secondary endpoints to include changes in telogen hair percentage and diameter distribution of anagen hair (>40 µm vs. ≤40 µm) measured by trichogram, researchers found that intake of omega 3 & 6 and antioxidants display a significant effect in reduced hair loss and promoted hair growth.

According to the photograph assessment, the application demonstrated a superior improvement in hair density.

The telogen hair percentage was significantly (P < 0.001) reduced in the supplemented group.

The proportion of nonvellus anagen hair (>40 µm) increased compared to the control group.

The tachometer index in the supplemented group expressed a substantial increment of hair growth, compared to loss in the control group.

Also, according to the doctors' final photograph assessment reported, oral administration of Omega 3 & 6 supplement reduced hair loss, and improved hair diameter and hair density in most of the women who were assigned to the treatment group.

After taking into account of other co and confounders, Dr. Le Floc’h C, the lead scientist said, “A large majority of supplemented subjects reported a reduction in hair loss (89.9% of subjects at 6 months), as well as an improvement in hair diameter (86.1%) and hair density (87.3%)”.

Truly, the study of 6-month supplementation with omega 3&6 and antioxidants no doubt expressed a significant effect in inhibited hair loss and improved hair density and reduced telogen percentage, and miniaturized proportion of anagen hair.

#Fennel Extract, in Vivo Increased Step-Down Latency and Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition Are Associated with #CognitiveDisorders, Scientists Suggest

Kyle J. Norton

Fennel may process a sustainable and therapeutic effect in enhancing cognitive functions, some scientists suggested.
Cognitive function is a mental process of the brain, with an aim to acquire knowledge by accumulating information through reasoning, memory, attention, and language, regardless of circumstances.

On the other hand, cognitive impairment, depending on the severity is a condition in which the infected person has trouble remembering, learning new things, concentrating, or making decisions that affect the quality of their everyday life.

In the elderly, most cases of cognitive impairment are associated with neurodegenerative diseases and long-term use of medication, including Alzheimer's;s disease.

However, malnutrition, hormone imbalance such as thyroid hormone, mental illness, and substance abuse, particularly, in brain damage or injury are some of the major and prevalent risk factors that can cause the early onset of cognitive impairment.

Some researchers suggested that people who have metabolic syndrome (abnormally high blood pressure, high blood sugar, obesity, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride level), mental illness, and previously disturbed state of mind due to fever, or intoxication is also at a higher risk of the condition developing.

Dr. Fernando Gómez-Pinilla, in the study of the effects of nutrients on brain function, wrote. "diets that are high in saturated fat are becoming notorious for reducing molecular substrates that support cognitive processing and increasing the risk of neurological dysfunction in both humans and animals"

And, Dr. Alan J. Gow, the lead scientist, in the study of the effects of lifestyle in cognitive impairment, said, " Lifestyle factors, particularly those which are malleable across the life course, may be highly informative for the development of interventions to reduce or delay age-related cognitive decline".

These explanations strongly agreed that following a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables and less saturated and trans fat, processed meat, refined products,...... salt, and sugar, and a lifestyle with moderate exercise may have a significant effect in protecting the brain neurons against the onset of cognitive impairment.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belonging to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean.

The herb has been used in traditional and herbal medicine as a warming, carminative, antispasmodic, depressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, regulate the menstrual cycle, and relieve PMS,...
.
Anethole, the main fragrance and bioactive compound of fennel, in the study of 20 other plant species was found to process nootropic activity in protecting the neurons degeneration, including diseases associated with a decline in cognitive abilities such as Alzheimer's disease through its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective expression.

In the inflammatory expression, application of anethole exerted a significant effect in mediated NF-kB in the systematically inflammatory response induced by transcription of proinflammatory genes and TNF-α signaling in the production inflammatory factors in the acute phase of infection.

The initiation of the pro-inflammatory cytokine in case of acute infection is a natural defense of the immune response to protect the injured tissue against the invasion of bacteria and viruses. However, overexpression of inflammatory factors may also catalyze tissue damage and cause neuron cell death.

In oxidative perspective, application of anethole in the tested model also demonstrated a strong effect in inhibiting reactive oxygen species ROS which cause the cytotoxicity to neuron through its antioxidant and stimulated the production of the host antioxidant defense.

Injection of anethole also rebalanced the ratio of levels of free radicals and antioxidants, thus reducing the risk of the initiated production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the precipitation of the death of brain cell that controls memory or other cognitive functions.

Furthermore, in the evaluated fennel effect in Alzheimer's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder associated with a decline in cognitive abilities, researchers found that fennel intake exerts a strong neuroprotective effect in protecting against the progressive degeneration.

The methanol extract of the whole plant of F. vulgare administered for eight successive days ameliorated the deficit of memory caused by brain damage, disease, or psychological trauma induced by scopolamine and aging-induced memory deficits in mice.

In acetylcholinesterase AChE-induced neurotoxicity in mice, the application of extract also increased step-down latency and reserved the neuron damage caused by acetylcholinesterase AChE toxicity.

Dr. Preksha Dwivedi, the lead author, after taking into account other co and confounders said, "Foeniculum vulgare Linn. The extract used as a nootropic and anticholinesterase agent in mice. F. vulgare extract increased step-down latency and acetylcholinesterase inhibition in mice significantly. F. vulgare is employed in the treatment of cognitive disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease".

Taken together, fennel, fennel extracts, or its bioactive anethole may be considered a functional food for enhancing memory or other cognitive functions through its neuroprotective and nootropic activity. However, intake of fennel extracts should be taken with extreme care in the prevention of acute liver toxicity.
